Screen-imaging guidance using a modified portable video macroscope for middle cerebral artery occlusion显示文摘The use of operating microscopes is limited by the focal length.Surgeons using these instruments cannot simultaneously view and access the surgical field and must choose one or the other. The longer focal length (more than 1 000 mm) of an operating telescope permits a position away from the operating field, above the surgeon and out of the field of view. This gives the telescope an advantage over an operating microscope. We developed a telescopic system using screen-imaging guidance and a modified portable video macroscope constructed from a Computar MLH-10 × macro lens,a DFK-21AU04 USB CCD Camera and a Dell laptop computer as monitor screen. This system was used to establish a middle cerebral artery occlusion model in rats. Results showed that magnification of the modified portable video macroscope was appropriate (5-20 ×) even though the Computar MLH-10 × macro lens was placed 800 mm away from the operating field rather than at the specified working distance of 152.4 mm with a zoom of 1-40 ×.The screen-imaging telescopic technique was clear,life-like,stereoscopic and matched the actual operation.Screen-imaging guidance led to an accurate, smooth, minimally invasive and comparatively easy surgical procedure.Success rate of the model establishment evaluated by neurological function using the modified neurological score system was 74.07%.There was no significant difference in model establishment time, sensorimotor deficit and infarct volume percentage. Our findings indicate that the telescopic lens is effective in the screen surgical operation mode referred to as 'long distance observation and short distance operation' and that screen-imaging guidance using an modified portable video macroscope can be utilized for the establishment of a middle cerebral artery occlusion model and micro-neurosurgery. | Xingbao Zhu Junli Luo Yun Liu Guolong Chen Song Liu Qiangjin Ruan Xunding Deng Dianchun Wang Quanshui Fan Xinghua Pan | 2012 | Neural Regeneration Research2012,7,12: | 6
A new method for early detection of myocardial ischemia:cardiodynamicsgram(CDG)显示文摘Early detection of myocardial ischemia via electrocardiographic methods is important and challenging. In the study, based on the standard 12-lead electrocardiography(ECG), a new method called cardiodynamicsgram(CDG) is proposed for early detection of myocardial ischemia. Using a recently proposed deterministic learning algorithm, the cardiodynamics information is extracted from the ST-T segments of standard 12-lead ECG. The CDG is generated by plotting the three-dimensional cardiodynamics information. By analyzing CDG morphology, it is found that significant correlations exist between CDG and ischemia. By evaluating ischemia patients and healthy controls from the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt(PTB) database and the General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Command, the CDG method achieves a mean sensitivity of 90.3% and a mean specificity of 87.8%, which are higher than those of both the standard 12-lead ECG and the exercise ECG. As it is noninvasive, convenient, and inexpensive, it is hopeful that CDG may become a cost-effective screening method for early detection of ischemic heart diseases. | Cong WANG Xunde DONG Shanxing OU Wei WANG Junmin HU Feifei YANG | 2016 | Science China(Information Sciences)2016,59,1: | 5

Electrocardiogram(ECG) pattern modeling and recognition via deterministic learning显示文摘A method for electrocardiogram(ECG) pattern modeling and recognition via deterministic learning theory is presented in this paper. Instead of recognizing ECG signals beat-to-beat, each ECG signal which contains a number of heartbeats is recognized. The method is based entirely on the temporal features(i.e., the dynamics) of ECG patterns, which contains complete information of ECG patterns. A dynamical model is employed to demonstrate the method, which is capable of generating synthetic ECG signals. Based on the dynamical model, the method is shown in the following two phases: the identification(training) phase and the recognition(test) phase. In the identification phase, the dynamics of ECG patterns is accurately modeled and expressed as constant RBF neural weights through the deterministic learning. In the recognition phase, the modeling results are used for ECG pattern recognition. The main feature of the proposed method is that the dynamics of ECG patterns is accurately modeled and is used for ECG pattern recognition. Experimental studies using the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt(PTB) database are included to demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach. | Xunde DONG Cong WANG Junmin HU Shanxing OU | 2014 | Control Theory and Technology2014,12,4: | 4
Dietary supplementation of Bacillus subtilis influenced intestinal health of weaned pigs experimentally infected with a pathogenic E. coli显示文摘Background: There is growing evidence to support the beneficial effects of supplementing direct-fed microbials(DFM) on performance, health status, and immune responses of weaned pigs. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate dietary supplementation of Bacillus subtilis(DSM 25841) on growth performance, diarrhea, gut permeability and immunity of weaned pigs experimentally infected with a pathogenic F-18 Escherichia coli(E. coli). Results: The F18 E. coli infection reduced(P < 0.05) growth performance and intestinal villi height, whereas increased(P < 0.05) diarrhea and transcellular and paracellular permeability in the jejunum compared with non-challenged control. Supplementation of Bacillus subtilis linearly enhanced average daily gain of E. coli infected pigs from d 0 to 5 post-inoculation(PI)(P < 0.05) and d 0 to 11 PI(P = 0.058). Supplementation of high dose of Bacillus subtilis reduced(P < 0.05) both transcellular and paracellular permeability on d 5 and d11 PI compared with the E. coli infected pigs fed with control diet. E. coli infection up-regulated(P < 0.05)the m RNA expression of SLC5 A10(soluble carrier family 5 member 10) and MUC2(mucin 2) on d 5 PI, but down-regulated(P < 0.05) expression of SLC5 A10, MUC2, and CLDN1 on d 11 PI in jejunal mucosa when pigs were fed with the control diet. Supplementation of Bacillus subtilis linearly up-regulated(P < 0.05) the m RNA expression of CFTR and ZO1 on d 5 PI and SLC5 A10 and MUC2 on d 11 PI in jejunal mucosa of E. coli infected pigs. In addition, E. coli infection increased(P < 0.05) the m RNA expression of several immune genes(IL1 A, IL1 B, and IL7 on d 5 PI, and IL1 B, IL6, IL7, and TNF on d 11 PI) in the ileal mucosa of weaned pigs. Inclusion of Bacillus subtilis to control diet linearly down-regulated gene expression of IL1 A on d 5 PI(P = 0.07) and IL6 on d 11 PI(P < 0.05) in ileal mucosa of E. coli infected pigs. Conclusions: Supplementation of Bacillus subtilis(DSM 25841) enhanced growth rate and improved gut barrier function of weaned pigs experimentally infected with a pathogenic E. coli. | Kwangwook Kim Yijie He Xia Xiong Amy Ehrlich Xunde Li Helen Raybould Edward R.Atwill Elizabeth A.Maga Jens JΦrgensen Yanhong Liu | 2019 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2019,10,4: | 3
Dietary Bacillus spp.enhanced growth and disease resistance of weaned pigs by modulating intestinal microbiota and systemic immunity显示文摘Background:Previous research has shown that dietary supplementation of Bacillus spp.probiotics exerts beneficial effects on animals’growth. However, limited studies have evaluated the efficacy of Bacillus spp.on weaned pigs and their effects on host gut health and microbiome, and systemic immunity using a disease challenge model. The objective of this experiment was to investigate the effects of two Bacillus spp.strains(Bacillus subtilis DSM 32540 and Bacillus pumilus DSM 32539)on growth performance, diarrhea, intestinal health, microbiome, and systemic immunity of weaned pigs experimentally infected with an enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli(ETEC).Results:Pigs in PRO1(Bacillus subtilis DSM 32540)had greater(P<0.05)body weight on d 7 and 14 PI,greater(P<0.05)ADG from d 0 to 7 and d 7 to 14 PI,compared with pigs in CON(Control).Pigs in PRO1 had milder(P<0.05)diarrhea on d 2 and 3 PI compared with pigs in CON.However,no differences were observed in growth performance and diarrhea score between PRO2(Bacillus pumilus DSM 32539)and CON groups.Supplementation of PRO1 decreased(P<0.05)lymphocyte counts on d 7 and 14 PI,compared with CON.Supplementation of PRO1 and PRO2 both reduced(P<0.05)total coliforms in mesenteric lymph nodes on d 21 PI.Pigs in PRO2 had greater(P<0.05)goblet cell number and sulfomucin percentage in duodenal villi and greater(P<0.05)sialomucin percentage in jejunal villi than pigs in CON.Supplementation of PRO1 up-regulated(P<0.05)MUC2 gene expression in jejunal mucosa and reduced(P<0.05)PTGS-2 and IL1B gene expression in ileal mucosa on d 21 PI,compared with CON.Pigs in PRO1 had reduced(P<0.05)relative abundance of families Lachnospiraceae,Peptostreptococcaceae and Pasteurellaceae in the ileum. Conclusions:Supplementation of Bacillus subtilis DSM 32540 improved growth performance, alleviated diarrhea severity, enhanced gut health, and reduced systemic inflammation of weaned pigs infected with ETEC F18.Although Bacillus pumilus DSM 32539 was able to alleviate systemic inflammation,it had limited impacts on growth performance and severity of diarrhea of ETEC F18 challenged weaned pigs. | Yijie He Cynthia Jinno Kwangwook Kim Zhaohai Wu Bie Tan Xunde Li Rose Whelan Yanhong Liu | 2021 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2021,12,2: | 2

Supplementation of oligosaccharide-based polymer enhanced growth and disease resistance of weaned pigs by modulating intestinal integrity and systemic immunity显示文摘Background:There is a great demand for antibiotic alternatives to maintain animal health and productivity. The objective of this experiment was to determine the efficacy of dietary supplementation of a blood group A6 type 1antigen oligosaccharides-based polymer(Coligo)on growth performance, diarrhea severity, intestinal health, and systemic immunity of weaned pigs experimentally infected with an enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli(ETEC),when compared with antibiotics. Results:Pigs in antibiotic carbadox or Coligo treatment groups had greater(P<0.05)body weight on d 5 or d 11post-inoculation(PI)than pigs in the control group, respectively.Supplementation of antibiotics or Coligo enhanced(P<0.05)feed efficiency from d 0 to 5 PI and reduced(P<0.05)frequency of diarrhea throughout the experiment, compared with pigs in the control group.Supplementation of antibiotics reduced(P<0.05)fecalβ-hemolytic coliforms on d 2,5,and 8 PI.Pigs in antibiotics or Coligo groups had reduced(P<0.05)neutrophil counts and serum haptoglobin concentration compared to pigs in the control group on d 2 and 5 PI.Pigs in Coligo had reduced(P<0.05)total coliforms in mesenteric lymph nodes on d 5 and 11 PI,whereas pigs in antibiotics or Coligo groups had reduced(P<0.05)total coliforms in spleen on d 11 PI compared with pigs in the control group. On d 5 PI,pigs in the Coligo group had greater(P<0.05)gene expression of ZO1 in jejunal mucosa, but less(P<0.05)m RNA expression of IL1B,IL6,and TNF in ileal mucosa,in comparison with pigs in the control group.Supplementation of antibiotics enhanced(P<0.05)the gene expression of OCLN in jejunal mucosa but decreased(P<0.05)IL1B and IL6 gene expression in ileal mucosa, compared with the control. On d 11 PI,supplementation of antibiotics or Coligo up-regulated(P<0.05)gene expression of CLDN1 in jejunal mucosa, but Coligo reduced(P<0.05)IL6 gene expression in ileal mucosa compared to pigs in the control group. Conclusions:Supplementation of Coligo improved growth performance, alleviated diarrhea severity, and enhanced gut health in weaned pigs infected with ETEC F18 in a manner similar to in-feed antibiotics. | Kwangwook Kim Yijie He Cynthia Jinno Lauren Kovanda Xunde Li David Bravo Eric Cox Yanhong Liu | 2022 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2022,13,3: | 0
Modeling of nonlinear dynamical systems based on deterministic learning and structural stability显示文摘Recently, a deterministic learning(DL) theory was proposed for accurate identification of system dynamics for nonlinear dynamical systems. In this paper, we further investigate the problem of modeling or identification of the partial derivative of dynamics for dynamical systems. Firstly, based on the locally accurate identification of the unknown system dynamics via deterministic learning, the modeling of its partial derivative of dynamics along the periodic or periodic-like trajectory is obtained by using the mathematical concept of directional derivative. Then, with accurately identified system dynamics and the partial derivative of dynamics,a C1-norm modeling approach is proposed from the perspective of structural stability, which can be used for quantitatively measuring the topological similarities between different dynamical systems. This provides more incentives for further applications in the classification of dynamical systems and patterns, as well as the prediction of bifurcation and chaos. Simulation studies are included to demonstrate the effectiveness of this modeling approach. | Danfeng CHEN Cong WANG Xunde DONG | 2016 | Science China(Information Sciences)2016,59,9: | 0
Genetically-engineered hamster models: applications and perspective in dyslipidemia and atherosclerosis-related cardiovascular disease显示文摘Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in both developed and developing countries,in which atherosclerosis triggered by dyslipidemia is the major pathological basis.Over the past 40 years, small rodent animals, such as mice, have been widely used for understanding of human atherosclerosis-related cardiovascular disease(ASCVD)with the advantages of low cost and ease of maintenance and manipulation. However, based on the concept of precision medicine and high demand of translational research, the applications of mouse models for human ASCVD study would be limited due to the natural differences in metabolic features between mice and humans even though they are still the most powerful tools in this research field, indicating that other species with biological similarity to humans need to be considered for studying ASCVD in future. With the development and breakthrough of novel gene editing technology,Syrian golden hamster,a small rodent animal replicating the metabolic characteristics of humans, has been genetically modified, suggesting that gene-targeted hamster models will provide new insights into the precision medicine and translational research of ASCVD.The purpose of this review was to summarize the genetically-modified hamster models with dyslipidemia to date, and their potential applications and perspective for ASCVD. | George Liu Pingping Lai Jiabao Guo Yuhui Wang Xunde Xian | 2021 | Medical Review2021,1,1: | 0
Impact of an oligosaccharide-based polymer on the metabolic profiles and microbial ecology of weanling pigs experimentally infected with a pathogenic E.coli显示文摘Background Our previous study has reported that supplementation of oligosaccharide-based polymer enhances gut health and disease resistance of pigs infected with enterotoxigenic E.coli(ETEC)F18 in a manner similar to carbadox. The objective of this study was to investigate the impacts of oligosaccharide-based polymer or antibiotic on the host metabolic profiles and colon microbiota of weaned pigs experimentally infected with ETEC F18.Results Multivariate analysis highlighted the differences in the metabolic profiles of serum and colon digesta which were predominantly found between pigs supplemented with oligosaccharide-based polymer and antibiotic. The relative abundance of metabolic markers of immune responses and nutrient metabolisms, such as amino acids and carbohydrates, were significantly differentiated between the oligosaccharide-based polymer and antibiotic groups(q<0.2 and fold change>2.0).In addition, pigs in antibiotic had a reduced(P<0.05)relative abundance of Lachnospiraceae and Lactobacillaceae, whereas had greater(P<0.05)Clostridiaceae and Streptococcaceae in the colon digesta on d 11 post-inoculation(PI)compared with d 5 PI.Conclusions The impact of oligosaccharide-based polymer on the metabolic and microbial profiles of pigs is not fully understood, and further exploration is needed. However, current research suggest that various mechanisms are involved in the enhanced disease resistance and performance in ETEC-challenged pigs by supplementing this polymer. | Kwangwook Kim Cynthia Jinno Xunde Li David Bravo Eric Cox Peng Ji Yanhong Liu | 2024 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2024,15,2: | 0
