Pediatric patients in the new wave of SARS‑CoV‑2 infection in Shanghai,China显示文摘Since March 28,2022,Shanghai has become the new COVID-19 epicenter in China, with more than 500,000 COVID-19 cases until May 5th,2022,of which more than 90%are asymptomatic.More than 12,000 children in Shanghai were infected with COVID-19 during the current Omicron wave, which was characterized by family clustering.Because an increasing number of symptomatic children are required to be hospitalized, four major pediatric medical centers in Shanghai and other general hospitals were designated for admitting symptomatic pediatric COVID-19 cases in the early April. There were approximately 3,500 pediatric cases admitted from April 1st until May 5th,2022. | Jian‑Guo Zhou Yan‑Ming Lu Li‑Bo Wang Hui Yu Ting Zhang Yi‑Wei Chen Wen‑Hao Zhou | 2022 | World Journal of Pediatrics2022,18,9: | 0
Study on syndrome distribution and medication characteristics of patients with rectal cancer in the real world显示文摘Objective:To explore the general characteristics, traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndromes and medication of patients with rectal cancer in China. Methods:The clinical data of inpatients with rectal cancer from the information system of 17 tertiary A‑level traditional Chinese medicine hospitals in China were collected. After data standardization, descriptive analysis was performed on the general information, syndrome distribution and medication characteristics of the included patients, and association rule analysis was performed on the drug usage. Results:A total of 15424 hospitalized patients with rectal cancer were included. The ratio of male to female patients was 1.6:1,the average age was 60.87 years old,and the age was mainly in the range of 50 to 79 years old.Among the 12146 patients with rectal cancer, the top 5 TCM syndromes were Qi and Yin deficiency syndrome(25%),phlegm and blood stasis syndrome(19%),spleen deficiency syndrome(14%),Qi stagnation and blood stasis syndrome(7%)and Qi and blood deficiency syndrome(6%).After excluding the anti‑tumor western medicine recommended by the guidelines, adrenal corticosteroids(43.55%),antibiotics(42.94%)and immunomodulatory drugs(42.66%)ranked the top three in the frequency of western medicine use.Dexamethasone(38.15%),metoclopramide tablets(20.51%)and furosemide injection(19.71%)were the three most commonly used western medicines.Among the three western medicines combined, cimetidine, granisetron hydrochloride dextrose injection+dexamethasone were the most common(support 8.23%,confidence 96.4%,and improvement 2.48%).Heat‑clearing and detoxifying agents(53.72%),Yiqi‑fuzheng agents(49.76%)and blood‑activating and stasis‑removing agents(15.68%)ranked the top 3 in the frequency of use of traditional Chinese medicine.Shenqi Fuzheng injection,Shenqi Fuzheng injection(21.59%),Compound Kushen injection(17.52%)and Aidi injection(11.96%)were the three most commonly used Chinese patent medicines. Conclusion:The main syndromes of patients with rectal cancer may be Qi and Yin deficiency syndrome, phlegm and blood stasis syndrome, and spleen deficiency syndrome, etc. The treatment needs to focus on the supplementation of vital essence, combination of dredging and tonifying method, and the integration of traditional Chinese and western medicine. | GAO Feng GUO Li‑jun XIE Yan‑ming LIU Huan ZHANG Yin LU Qi ZHUANG Yan | 2022 | Journal of Hainan Medical University2022,28,23: | 0
Infection with severe fever with thrombocytopenia virus in healthy population:a cohort study in a high endemic region,China显示文摘Background: Severe fever with thrombocytopenia (SFTS) caused by SFTS virus (SFTSV) was a tick-borne hemorrhagic fever that posed significant threat to human health in Eastern Asia. The study was designed to measure the seroprevalence of SFTSV antibody in healthy population residing in a high endemic region. Methods: A cohort study was performed on healthy residents in Shangcheng County in Xinyang City from April to December in 2018, where the highest SFTS incidence in China was reported. Anti-SFTSV IgG was measured by indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and neutralizing antibody (NAb) was detected by using PRNT50. The logistic regression models were performed to analyze the variables that were associated with seropositive rates. Results: Totally 886 individuals were recruited. The baseline seroprevalence that was tested before the epidemic season was 11.9% (70/587) for IgG and 6.8% (40/587) for NAb, which was increased to 13.4% (47/350) and 7.7% (27/350) during the epidemic season, and further to 15.8% (80/508) and 9.8% (50/508) post epidemic. The IgG antibody-based seropositivity was significantly related to the patients aged ≥ 70 years old [adjusted odds ratio (OR) = 2.440, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.334-4.461 compared to the group of < 50 years old,P = 0.004], recent contact with cats (adjustedOR = 2.195, 95%CI: 1.261-3.818,P = 0.005), and working in tea garden (adjustedOR = 1.698, 95%CI: 1.002-2.880,P = 0.049) by applying multivariate logistic regression model. The NAb based seropositivity was similarly related to the patients aged ≥ 70 years old (adjustedOR = 2.691, 95%CI: 1.271-5.695 compared to the group of < 50 years old,P = 0.010), and recent contact with cats (OR = 2.648, 95%CI: 1.419-4.941,P = 0.002). For a cohort of individuals continually sampled with 1-year apart, the anti-SFTSV IgG were maintained at a stable level, while the NAb level reduced. Conclusions: Subclinical infection might not provide adequate immunity to protect reinfection of SFTSV, thus highlighting the ongoing threats of SFTS in endemic regions, which called for an imperative need for vaccine development. Identification of risk factors might help to target high-risk population for public health education and vaccination in the future. | Xiao‑Lei Ye Ke Dai Qing‑Bin Lu Yan‑Qin Huang Shou‑Ming Lv Pan‑He Zhang Jia‑Chen Li Hai‑Yang Zhang Zhen‑Dong Yang Ning Cui Chun Yuan Kun Liu Xiao‑Ai Zhang Jiu‑Song Zhang Hao Li Yang Yang Li‑Qun Fang Wei Liu | 2021 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2021,10,6: | 3

Altered gut microbiota composition in children and their caregivers infected with the SARS‑CoV‑2 Omicron variant显示文摘Background Gut microbiota alterations have been implicated in the pathogenesis of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).This study aimed to explore gut microbiota changes in a prospective cohort of COVID-19 children and their asymptomatic caregivers infected with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2(SARS-CoV-2)Omicron variant. Methods A total of 186 participants, including 59 COVID-19 children,50 asymptomatic adult caregivers,52 healthy children(HC),and 25 healthy adults(HA),were recruited between 15 April and 31 May 2022.The gut microbiota composition was determined by 16S rRNA gene sequencing in fecal samples collected from the participants.Gut microbiota functional profling was performed by using Phylogenetic Investigation of Communities by Reconstruction of Unobserved States(PICRUSt)software. Results The gut microbiota analysis of beta diversity revealed that the fecal microbial community of COVID-19 children remained far distantly related to HC.The relative abundances of the phyla Actinobacteria and Firmicutes were decreased, whereas Bacteroidetes,Proteobacteria, and Verrucomicrobiota were increased in COVID-19 children.Feces from COVID-19 children exhibited notably lower abundances of the genera Blautia,Bifdobacterium,Fusicatenibacter,Streptococcus, and Romboutsia and higher abundances of the genera Prevotella,Lachnoclostridium,Escherichia-Shigella,and Bacteroides than those from HC.The enterotype distributions of COVID-19 children were characterized by a high prevalence of enterotype Bacteroides.Similar changes in gut microbiota compositions were observed in asymptomatic caregivers.Furthermore, the microbial metabolic activities of KEGG(Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes)and COG(cluster of orthologous groups of proteins)pathways were perturbed in feces from subjects infected with the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant. Conclusion Our data reveal altered gut microbiota compositions in both COVID-19 children and their asymptomatic caregivers infected with the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant, which further implicates the critical role of gut microbiota in COVID-19 pathogenesis. | Yi‑Zhong Wang Jian‑Guo Zhou Yan‑Ming Lu Hui Hu Fang‑Fei Xiao Ting Ge Xing Wang Lu Zheng Lian‑Hu Yu Jun Le Hui Yu Guang‑Jun Yu Qiang Xia Ting Zhang Wen‑Hao Zhou | 2023 | World Journal of Pediatrics2023,19,5: | 0
High‑accuracy measurement of Compton scattering in germanium for dark matter searches显示文摘Compton scattering with bound electrons contributes to a significant atomic effect in low-momentum transfer, yielding background structures in direct light dark matter searches as well as low-energy rare event experiments. We report the measurement of Compton scattering in low-momentum transfer by implementing a 10-g germanium detector bombarded by a^(137)Cs source with a radioactivity of 8.7 mCi and a scatter photon captured by a cylindrical NaI(Tl)detector.A fully relativistic impulse approximation combined with multi-configuration Dirac–Fock wavefunctions was evaluated, and the scattering function of Geant4 software was replaced by our calculation results. Our measurements show that the Livermore model with the modified scattering function in Geant4 is in good agreement with the experimental data.It is also revealed that atomic many-body effects significantly influence Compton scattering for low-momentum transfer(sub-keV energy transfer). | Hai‑Tao Jia Shin‑Ted Lin Shu‑Kui Liu Hsin‑Chang Chi Muhammed Deniz Chang‑Hao Fang Peng Gu Xi Jiang Yi‑Ke Shu Qian‑Yun Li Yu Liu Ren‑Ming‑Jie Li Chen‑Kai Qiao Chang‑Jian Tang Henry Tsz‑King Wong Hao‑Yang Xing Li‑Tao Yang Qian Yue Yu‑Lu Yan Kang‑Kang Zhao Jing‑Jun Zhu | 2022 | Nuclear Science and Techniques2022,33,12: | 1
