1Effects of vegetation height and density on soil temperature variations显示文摘Reduction in vegetation cover caused by human activities has a great impact on soil temperature. It is important to assess how soil temperature responds to reduction of vegetation height and density. In this paper we first report the trends of mean annual soil surface and air temperatures recorded at the meteorological stations near the Ecological Research Station for Grassland Farming (ERSGF) from 1961 to 2007, then we setup an experiment using reed (Phragmites australis) stalks with different heights and densities to simulate effects of different vegetation height and density on soil and air temperatures. The warming rates of the mean annual soil and air temperatures were 0.043 and 0.041C a 1 , respectively. Changes of soil temperature were characterized by both increased mean annual maximum and minimum soil temperatures. At the experimental site, mean daily temperature, mean daily maximum soil and air temperatures increased significantly. In contrast, mean daily minimum soil temperature increased significantly while mean daily minimum air temperature decreased significantly as the height and density of reed stalks reduced during the experimental period. Mean diurnal soil temperature ranges were smaller than mean diurnal air temperature ranges. 2Carbon pools and fluxes in the China Seas and adjacent oceans显示文摘The China Seas include the South China Sea, East China Sea, Yellow Sea, and Bohai Sea. Located off the Northwestern Pacific margin, covering 4700000 km^2 from tropical to northern temperate zones, and including a variety of continental margins/basins and depths, the China Seas provide typical cases for carbon budget studies. The South China Sea being a deep basin and part of the Western Pacific Warm Pool is characterized by oceanic features; the East China Sea with a wide continental shelf, enormous terrestrial discharges and open margins to the West Pacific, is featured by strong cross-shelf materials transport; the Yellow Sea is featured by the confluence of cold and warm waters; and the Bohai Sea is a shallow semiclosed gulf with strong impacts of human activities. Three large rivers, the Yangtze River, Yellow River, and Pearl River, flow into the East China Sea, the Bohai Sea, and the South China Sea, respectively. The Kuroshio Current at the outer margin of the Chinese continental shelf is one of the two major western boundary currents of the world oceans and its strength and position directly affect the regional climate of China. These characteristics make the China Seas a typical case of marginal seas to study carbon storage and fluxes. This paper systematically analyzes the literature data on the carbon pools and fluxes of the Bohai Sea,Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea, including different interfaces(land-sea, sea-air, sediment-water, and marginal sea-open ocean) and different ecosystems(mangroves, wetland, seagrass beds, macroalgae mariculture, coral reefs, euphotic zones, and water column). Among the four seas, the Bohai Sea and South China Sea are acting as CO_2 sources, releasing about0.22 and 13.86–33.60 Tg C yr^(-1) into the atmosphere, respectively, whereas the Yellow Sea and East China Sea are acting as carbon sinks, absorbing about 1.15 and 6.92–23.30 Tg C yr^(-1) of atmospheric CO_2, respectively. Overall, if only the CO_2 exchange at the sea-air interface is considered, the Chinese marginal seas appear to be a source of atmospheric CO_2, with a net release of 6.01–9.33 Tg C yr^(-1), mainly from the inputs of rivers and adjacent oceans. The riverine dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) input into the Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea are 5.04, 14.60, and 40.14 Tg C yr^(-1),respectively. The DIC input from adjacent oceans is as high as 144.81 Tg C yr^(-1), significantly exceeding the carbon released from the seas to the atmosphere. In terms of output, the depositional fluxes of organic carbon in the Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea are 2.00, 3.60, 7.40, and 5.92 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. The fluxes of organic carbon from the East China Sea and South China Sea to the adjacent oceans are 15.25–36.70 and 43.93 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. The annual carbon storage of mangroves, wetlands, and seagrass in Chinese coastal waters is 0.36–1.75 Tg C yr^(-1), with a dissolved organic carbon(DOC) output from seagrass beds of up to 0.59 Tg C yr^(-1). Removable organic carbon flux by Chinese macroalgae mariculture account for 0.68 Tg C yr^(-1) and the associated POC depositional and DOC releasing fluxes are 0.14 and 0.82 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. Thus, in total, the annual output of organic carbon, which is mainly DOC, in the China Seas is 81.72–104.56 Tg C yr^(-1). The DOC efflux from the East China Sea to the adjacent oceans is 15.00–35.00 Tg C yr^(-1). The DOC efflux from the South China Sea is 31.39 Tg C yr^(-1). 3Effects of fencing on vegetation and soil restoration in a degraded alkaline grassland in northeast China显示文摘In order to restore a degraded alkaline grassland, the local government implemented a large restoration project using fences in Changling county, Jilin province, China, in 2000. Grazing was excluded from the protected area, whereas the grazed area was continuously grazed at 8.5 dry sheep equivalent(DSE)/hm2. In the current research, soil and plant samples were taken from grazed and fenced areas to examine changes in vegetation and soil properties in 2005, 2006 and 2008. Results showed that vegetation characteristics and soil properties improved significantly in the fenced area compared with the grazed area. In the protected area the vegetation cover, height and above- and belowground biomass increased significantly. Soil pH, electrical conductivity and bulk density decreased significantly, but soil organic carbon and total nitrogen concentration increased greatly in the protected area. By comparing the vegetation and soil characteristics with pre-degraded grassland, we found that vegetation can recover 6 years after fencing, and soil pH can be restored 8 years after fencing. However, the restoration of soil organic carbon, total nitrogen and total phosphorus concentrations needed 16, 30 and 19 years, respectively. It is recommended that the stocking rate should be reduced to 1/3 of the current carrying capacity, or that a grazing regime of 1-year of grazing followed by a 2-year rest is adopted to sustain the current status of vegetation and soil resources. 4Multiple active components synergistically driven heteroatom-doped porous carbon as high-performance counter electrode in dye-sensitized solar cells显示文摘A facile template-free in situ self-activation approach for the multiple active components synergistically driven porous carbon was presented via a feasible annealing process.The biomass-derived carbon without additional activation reagents was fabricated using K-rich pomelo peel(PP)as the carbon source,which possesses a high electric conductivity where abundant functional hetero-metal atoms are doped into the carbon framework that playing the role of catalytic graphitization.The K^+that exists within the biomass can induce self-activation during pyrolysis apart from the activating gases during the pyrolysis process.The resulting electrocatalyst of PP-850(PP was pyrolyzed at 850°C in an N_2atmosphere)with abundant heteroatoms possesses a higher power conversion efficiency(PCE)of 7.81%as the counter electrode(CE)of dye-sensitized solar cells(DSCs)compared with the CEs calcinated at other temperatures and a similar PCE with Pt counterpart(8.24%)based on the liquid I_3^-/I^-electrolyte.The better electrocatalytic performance is attributed to the synergistic effect between self-activation and the co-doping of nitrogen,sulfur and phosphorus all together in a carbon matrix.Due to the feasibility of large-scale production,rich heteroatom doping,the PP-derived carbon,which simplifies the procedure and decreases the cost,has a potential application for an alternative electrocatalyst for high-performance photovoltaic devices.Hongyu Jing Danyang Wu Suxia Liang Xuedan Song Yonglin An Ce Hao Yantao Shi 2019Journal of Energy Chemistry2019,28,4:2
5Significance of Different Microalgal Species for Growth of Moon Jellyfish Ephyrae, Aurelia sp.1显示文摘The scyphozoan Aurelia aurita(Linnaeus) sp. l., is a cosmopolitan species-complex which blooms seasonally in a variety of coastal and shelf sea environments around the world. The effects of different microalgal species on the growth of newly-released Aurelia sp.1 ephyrae were studied under laboratory conditions. We fed ephyrae with four different microalgal species(diatom, autotrophic dinoflagellate, heterotrophic dinoflagellate, and chlorophyta) plus Artemia nauplii for 12- 24 d at 18℃. Results showed that the growth rate diverged significantly for Artemia nauplii compared to other food types. In addition, there was no significant variation between the growth rates for Skeletonema costatum and Prorocentrum donghaiense, and no significant variation was found in the growth rates for N. scintillans and P. subcordiformis. Artemia nauplii could support the energy requirement for the newly-released ephyrae to develop to meduase, and the ephyrae with Artemia nauplii showed a significant average growth rate of 25.85% d-1. Newly-released ephyrae could grow slightly with some species of microalgae in the earliest development stage. Chain diatom Skeletonema costatum and autotrophic dinoflagellate Prorocentrum donghaiense, could not support the growth of the ephyrae, while heterotrophic dinoflagellate Noctiluca scintillans and chlorophyta Platymonas subcordiformis could support the growth of the ephyrae. 8Acute Toxicities of Potassium Permanganate, Formalin, and Lugol's Iodine Solution to a Marine Ciliate, Pleuronema coronatum (Ciliophora, Scuticociliatida)显示文摘Acute toxicities of potassium permanganate, formalin, and Lugol’s iodine solution to a commonly occurred marine ciliate Pleuronema coronatum (Ciliophora, Scuticociliatida) were measured. Linear regression analysis of the results highlighted the close relationships between doses of the medicines and mortalities of the organisms, thus providing a capability to predict toxicity effects from the dose. Toxic effects of the medicines on the ciliates were described in the present paper, and the median lethal concentrations (LC 50 values) were given. Results of measurements indicated that 2 h-LC 50 and 12 h-LC 50 values of formalin on P. coronatum were 59.00×10 -6 and 43.57×10 -6, while those of Lugol’s solutions were 90.13 and 67.84×10 -6 respectively. 15Insight into the CO2 photoreduction mechanism over 9-hydroxyphenal-1-one(HPHN) carbon quantum dots显示文摘Converting CO2 to carbon-containing fuels is an effective approach to relieving energy shortages.Carbon quantum dots(CQDs) have shown distinct properties and attracted tremendous interest in CO2 reduction.Herein,we report a joint experimental-computational mechanistic study of photoreduction CO2 to CO on the model catalyst 9-hydroxyphenal-1-one(HPHN) CQDs with known structure.Our theoretical calculations reveal that the rate-determining step is COOH·formation,which is closely related to the proton and electron transfer induced by hydrogen bonding in the excited state.According to the calculated volcano plot,the solution we proposed is addition Zn^(2+) ions.The active center changed from the hydroxyl oxygen atom to the Zn atom and the barrier of the COOH·formation step is noticeably decreased when Zn^(2+) ions are added.It is further confirmed by the experimental data that the activity of CO2 reduction increases 2.9 times when Zn^(2+) ions are added.Zhengyan Zhao Heming Zhang Xuedan Song Yantao Shi Duanhui Si Hongjiang Li Ce Hao 2021Journal of Energy Chemistry2021,30,1:0
16Synthesis and biological evaluation of N-Alkylamide derivatives as anti-tumor agents显示文摘Background:N-Alkylamides(NAAs),derived from Anacyclus pyrethrum(L.)DC,have potential anti-tumor effects.To explore the molecular mechanism and chemo-preventive capacity of NAAs,we synthesized an NAA(H-10)and evaluated whether it could inhibit the proliferation of B16,HepG2,HeLa,and HCT116 cancer cells in 2D culture.Methods:To evaluate the antiproliferative activity of H-10 in 2D and 3D culture of BD,HepG2,HeLa,and HCT116 cells,multicellular tumor spheroids were constructed to more accurately reflect the cell tumor environment.To visualize nuclear changes related to apoptosis,Hoechst 33258 staining and propidium iodide-Annexin V double staining were performed.Results:Compound H-10 strongly inhibited the growth of all tested cell lines.Hoechst 33258 staining and propidium iodide-Annexin V double staining revealed that H-10 did not cause morphological alterations in the nuclei and moderately induced late apoptosis only when treated at 180 mM.The strongest inhibitory effect was observed in HCT116 cells.Flow cytometry analysis indicated that treatment of HCT116 cells with compound H-10 resulted in robust cell growth arrest in G2 phase in 2D and 3D cell culture;in 3D-cultured HCT116 cells,growth arrest occurred in G1 phase.Treatment with compound H-10 also significantly suppressed angiogenesis of chick chorioallantoic membrane in vivo.Conclusion:Treatment with compound H-10 strongly affected clonogenic survival(in the long-term)and migration of HCT116 cells.Therefore,H-10,a compound of NAAs may be useful for treating cancer because of its anti-neoplastic effect and easy synthesis.Kunxiu Jiang Yantao Xing Qinghua Quan Qianqian Sun Jingyun Tian Cen Liu Xingzhuo Song Xirui Wang Yonggang Liu 2020Journal of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences2020,7,4:0
