Terrestrial carbon sinks in China and around the world and their contribution to carbon neutrality显示文摘Enhancing the terrestrial ecosystem carbon sink(referred to as terrestrial C sink) is an important way to slow down the continuous increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide(CO_(2)) concentration and to achieve carbon neutrality target. To better understand the characteristics of terrestrial C sinks and their contribution to carbon neutrality, this review summarizes major progress in terrestrial C budget researches during the past decades, clarifies spatial patterns and drivers of terrestrial C sources and sinks in China and around the world, and examines the role of terrestrial C sinks in achieving carbon neutrality target.According to recent studies, the global terrestrial C sink has been increasing from a source of (-0.2±0.9) Pg C yr^(-1)(1 Pg=1015g)in the 1960s to a sink of (1.9±1.1) Pg C yr^(-1) in the 2010s.By synthesizing the published data,we estimate terrestrial C sink of 0.20–0.25 Pg C yr^(-1) in China during the past decades, and predict it to be 0.15–0.52 Pg C yr^(-1) by 2060.The terrestrial C sinks are mainly located in the mid-and high latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere, while tropical regions act as a weak C sink or source. The C balance differs much among ecosystem types:forest is the major C sink;shrubland, wetland and farmland soil act as C sinks;and whether the grassland functions as C sink or source remains unclear.Desert might be a C sink, but the magnitude and the associated mechanisms are still controversial.Elevated atmospheric CO_(2) concentration, nitrogen deposition, climate change, and land cover change are the main drivers of terrestrial C sinks, while other factors such as fires and aerosols would also affect ecosystem C balance. The driving factors of terrestrial C sink differ among regions.Elevated CO_(2) concentration and climate change are major drivers of the C sinks in North America and Europe, while afforestation and ecological restoration are additionally important forcing factors of terrestrial C sinks in China. For future studies,we recommend the necessity for intensive and long-term ecosystem C monitoring over broad geographic scale to improve terrestrial biosphere models for accurately evaluating terrestrial C budget and its dynamics under various climate change and policy scenarios. | Yuanhe Yang Yue Shi Wenjuan Sun Jinfeng Chang Jianxiao Zhu Leiyi Chen Xin Wang Yanpei Guo Hongtu Zhang Lingfei Yu Shuqing Zhao Kang Xu Jiangling Zhu Haihua Shen Yuanyuan Wang Yunfeng Peng Xia Zhao Xiangping Wang Huifeng Hu Shiping Chen Mei Huang Xuefa Wen Shaopeng Wang Biao Zhu Shuli Niu Zhiyao Tang Lingli Liu Jingyun Fang | 2022 | Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,5: | 32
Records of the East Asian winter monsoon from the mud area on the inner shelf of the East China Sea since the mid-Holocene显示文摘AMS14C dating and analysis of grain size, major elements and clay minerals were applied to Core MZ01 from the mud area on the inner shelf of the East China Sea.Based on the environmentally sensitive grain size, clay mineral and major element assemblages, the history of the East Asia winter monsoon since the mid-Holocene could be reconstructed. These three proxies, mean grain size(>9.71μm),chemical index of alteration(CIA)and ratio of smectite to kaolinite in particular, show similar fluctuation patterns. Furthermore,10 extreme values corresponding to the contemporary cooling events could be recognized since the mid-Holocene;these extreme values are likely to have been caused by the strengthening of the East Asia winter monsoon. The cooling events correlated well with the results of theδ18O curves of the Dunde ice core and GISP2,which therefore revealed a regional response to global climate change.Four stages of the East Asia winter monsoon were identified,i.e.8300-6300 a BP,strong and unstable;6300-3800 a BP,strong but stable;3800-1400 a BP,weak and unstable;after 1400 a BP,weak but stable. | LIU ShengFa SHI XueFa LIU YanGuang QIAO ShuQing YANG Gang FANG XiSheng WU YongHua LI ChaoXin LI XiaoYan ZHU AiMei GAO JingJing | 2010 | Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,21: | 25
Effects of modified Lingguizhugan decoction combined with weekend fasting on metabolic syndrome显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To assess the therapeutic effect of weekend fasting and administration of a modified Lingguizhugan decoction on metabolic syndrome(MetS).METHODS:Twenty-one patients with MetS were recruited from the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University.Fasting plasma glucose(FPG),30-min and 2-h post-prandial blood glucose(PG),fasting serum insulin(FINS),blood pressure(BP),body mass index(BMI),waist circumference(WC),homeostasis model assessment for insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR),and levels of triglyceride(TG),total cholesterol(TC),low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol(LDL-C),and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)were tested.Patients were allowed to drink only water and a Chinese herbal decoction during weekends. All samples were tested again after 12 weeks of treatment.RESULTS:FPG,30-min PG,2-h PG,FINS,LDL-C,systolic BP,diastolic BP,BMI,WC,and HOMA-IR de-creased significantly(P<0.05)compared with before treatment.Levels of TG,TC,and HDL-C did not change significantly.CONCLUSION:Weekend fasting improved glucose metabolism, lowered BP,reduced LDL-C levels,BMI,and WC.These data suggest that weekend fasting may be an effective therapy for MetS by protection against coronary atherosclerosis. | Yubin Yang Qiong Li Shuqing Chen Bin Ke Yinjuan Huang Jian Qin | 2014 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2014,34,1: | 8
Enhanced ozonation of dichloroacetic acid in aqueous solution using nanometer ZnO powders显示文摘Nanometer zinc oxide(ZnO) powders were used as a catalyst to enhance the ozonation for the degradation of dichloroacetic acid(DCAA) in aqueous solution. The batch experiments were carried out to investigate the eflects of key factors such as catalyst dosage, ozone dosage, solution pH and tert-butyl alcohol(t-BuOH) on the degradation eflciency of DCAA.Density functional theory(DFT) was adopted to explore the mechanism of generating hydroxyl radical(.OH) on the ZnO surface. The results showed that adsorption and ozonation processes were not eflective for DCAA removal, and the addition of ZnO catalyst improved the degradation eflciency of DCAA during ozonation, which caused an increase of 22.8%for DCAA decomposition compared to the case of ozonation alone after 25 min.Under the same experimental conditions, the DCAA decomposition was enhanced by increasing catalyst dosage from 100 to 500 mg/L and ozone dosage from 0.83 to 3.2 mg/L.The catalytic ozonation process is more pronounced than the ozonation process alone at pH 3.93,6.88,and 10.With increasing the concentration of t-BuOH from 10 to 200 mg/L,the degradation of DCAA was significantly inhibited in the process of catalytic ozonation, indicating that ZnO catalytic ozonation followed.OH reaction mechanism.Based on the experimental results and DFT analysis,it is deduced that the generation of.OH on the ZnO surface is ascribed to the adsorption of molecule ozone followed by the interaction of adsorbed ozone with active sites of the catalyst surface. It is also concluded that ZnO may be an eflective catalyst for DCAA removal, which could promote the formation of.OH derived from the catalytic decomposition of ozone. | Xu Zhai Zhonglin Chen Shuqing Zhao He Wang Lei Yang | 2010 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,10: | 7
Buoyancy effect on heat transfer in rotating smooth square U-duct at high rotation number显示文摘The buoyancy effect on heat transfer in a rotating,two-pass,square channel is experimentally investigated in curent work. The classical copper plate technique is performed to measure the regional averaged heat transfer cofficients. In order to perform a fundamental research, all turbulators are removed away. Two approaches of altering Buoyancy numbers are selected:varying rotation number from 0 to 2.08 at Reynolds number ranges of 10000 to 70000,and varying inlet density ratio from 0.07 to 0.16 at Reynolds number of 10000.And thus,Buoyancy numbers range from 0 to 12.9 for both cases.According to the experimental results, the relationships between heat transfer and Buoyancy numbers are in accord with those obtained under different rotation numbers. For both leading and trailing surface,a critical Buoyancy number exists for each X/D location. Before the critical point, the effect of Buoyancy number on heat transfer is limited;but after that, the Nusselt number ratios show different increase rate.Given the same rotation number, higher wall temperature ratios with its corresponding higher Buoyancy numbers substantially enhance heat transfer on both passages. And the critical exceed-point that heat transfer from trailing surface higher than leading surface happens at the same Buoyancy number for different wall temperature ratios in the second passage. Thus, the stronger buoyancy effect promotes heat transfer enhancement at high rotation number condition. | Yang Li Guoqiang Xu Hongwu Deng Shuqing Tian | 2014 | Propulsion and Power Research2014,3,3: | 6
Major Mid-Late Holocene Cooling in the East China Sea Revealed by an Alkenone Sea Surface Temperature Record显示文摘Although the mid-late Holocene cold and dry event about 4000 years ago(the 4 ka event) has been observed almost globally, it was most prominent in terrestrial climate proxies from the lower latitudes. Here we evaluate the oceanic response to this event in terms of a Holocene sea surface temperature(SST) record reconstructed using the K'37U index for Core B3 on the continental shelf of the East China Sea. The record reveals a large temperature drop of about 5℃ from the mid-Holocene(24.7℃ at 5.6 ka) to the 4 ka event(19.2℃ at 3.8 ka). This mid-late Holocene cooling period in Core B3 correlated with(i) decreases in the East Asia summer monsoon intensity and(ii) the transition period with increased El Nino/Southern Oscillation activities in the Equatorial Pacific. Our SST record provides oceanic evidence for a more global nature of the mid-late Holocene climate change, which was most likely caused by a southward migration of the Intertropical Converge Zone in response to the decreasing summer solar insolation in the Northern Hemisphere. However, the large SST drop around Core B3 indicates that the mid-late Holocene cooling was regionally amplified by the initiation/strengthening of eddy circulation/cold front which caused upwelling and resulted in additional SST decrease. Upwelling during the mid-late Holocene also enhanced with surface productivity in the East China Sea as reflected by higher alkenone content around Core B3. | ZHAO Meixun DING Ling XING Lei QIAO Shuqing YANG Zuosheng | 2014 | Journal of Ocean University of China2014,13,6: | 6
Distribution of major and trace elements in surface sediments of Hangzhou Bay in China显示文摘The Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer was used to analyze sediment samples collected from the Hangzhou Bay to determine major and trace elemental concentrations. Based on these concentrations, the study area can be classified into three geochemical provinces. Province I covers the northern Hangzhou Bay area and contains high concentrations of Al_2 O_3 , Fe_2 O_3 , MgO, Na_2 O, K_2 O, MnO, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, V, Co and Zn. Province III is located in the western Hangzhou Bay, near the Qiantang River mouth, and contains high concentrations of SiO_2 , Na_2 O, P_2 O_5 , TiO_2 , Cr, Sr, Zr. Province II is located in the middle and eastern Hangzhou Bay, with the medium concentrations of major and trace elements. The results also demonstrate that the grain size is the dominating factor controlling the spatial variations of elemental concentrations, and the Changjiang River (Yangtze River) and Qiantang River sediments play an important role in the distribution of these elements. Anthropogenic impact on heavy metal concentrations (especially Cr, Sr and Zr) can be detected in the surface sediments near the Qiantang River mouth. | LIU Shengfa LIU Yanguang YANG Gang QIAO Shuqing LI Chaoxin ZHU Zhiwei SHI Xuefa | 2012 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2012,31,4: | 5
Accelerated methane storage in clathrate hydrates using surfactantstabilized suspension with graphite nanoparticles显示文摘In this study, enhanced kinetics of methane hydrate formation in the sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS)solution with different concentrations of suspended graphite nanoparticles(GNPs)were investigated at 6.1-9.0 MPa and 274.15 K.The GNPs with rough surfaces and excellent thermal conductivity not only provided a considerable number of microsites for hydrate nucleation but also facilitated the fast hydrate heat transfer in the suspension system. At a relatively low pressure of 6.1 MPa,the suspension with 0.4 wt%of GNPs exhibited the minimum induction time of 22 min and maximum methane uptake of 126.1 cm3·cm-3.However,the methane storage performances of the suspensions with higher and lower concentrations of GNPs were not satisfactory. At the applied pressure, the temperature increase arising from the hydrate heat in the suspension system with the optimized concentration(0.4 wt%)of GNPs was more significant than that in the traditional SDS solution.Furthermore, compared with those of the system without GNPs,enhanced hydration rate and storage capacity were achieved in the suspensions with GNPs,and the storage capacities were increased by 3.9%-17.0%.The promotion effect of GNPs on gas hydrate formation at low pressure is much more obvious than that at high pressure. | Liang Yang Xin Wang Daoping Liu Guomin Cui Binlin Dou Juan Wang Shuqing Hao | 2020 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2020,28,4: | 4
Synergistic refining mechanism of Mg-3%Al alloy refining by carbon inoculation combining with Ca addition显示文摘Mg-3%Al alloy was refined by carbon inoculation combining with 0.2%Ca addition.High grain refining efficiency was obtained and the synergistic refining mechanism was deeply discussed in the present study.Al-C-O particles, actually Al4C3 particles, were formed in the carbon-inoculated Mg-3%A1 alloy acting as nuclei forα-Mg grains.Ca addition had no obvious effect on size distribution of the nucleating particles.Ca segregation was proved on Al4C3 particles, which should reduce the interfacial energy of nuclei/Mg.The constitutional undercooling in front of nucleus/liquid was increased from 0.12℃to 0.15℃induced by 0.2%Ca addition. The synergistic grain refining efficiency can be attributed to the higher constitutional undercooling and lower the interface energy of nucleus/Mg induced by Ca addition.More nucleating particles with small size could be activated acting as potent nuclei ofα-Mg grains.Consequently,Mg-3%Al alloy could be effectively refined due to the synergistic effect induced by carbon inoculation combining with Ca. | Chengbo Li Shuqing Yang Jun Du HengBin Liao Gan Luo | 2020 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2020,8,4: | 3
Diagnosis and clinical manifestations of subacute combined degeneration of the spinal cord: Analysis of 21 cases显示文摘BACKGROUND: Subacute combined degeneration of the spinal cord is caused by vitamin B12 deficiency and is a kind of degenerative disease owing the characteristics of nervous system diseases. In addition, different patients have variously clinical manifestations and various prognoses after vitamin B12 therapy. OBJECTIVE: To investigate and analyze diagnosis, clinical manifestations and prognosis of subacute combined degeneration of the spinal cord. DESIGN: Case analysis. SETTING: Department of Neurology, the Third Hospital of Peking University. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 21 subacute combined degeneration of the spinal cord patients including 14 males and 7 females aged from 33 to 82 years were selected from Department of Neurology, the Third Hospital of Peking University from January 1999 to December 2005. Duration from onset to final diagnosis lasted for 1.5–108 months. All patients had typically clinical manifestations; meanwhile, level of serum vitamin B12 was decreased and/or vitamin B12 therapy was effective. All patients provided the confirmed consent. METHODS: Clinical data of 21 subacute combined degeneration of the spinal cord patients were retrospectively analyzed, while general data and clinical characteristics were recorded at the same time. Levels of blood routine, serum vitamin B12 and homocysteine were measured at the phase of hospitalization. Normal value of serum vitamin B12 was 187–1 059 ng/L and normal value of serum homocysteine was 5– 15 μmol/L. All patients received neuroelectrophysiological examination and 15 patients received MRI examinations of spinal cord. After final diagnosis, patients were given vitamin B12 therapy. And follow-up was performed to investigate the prognosis. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: ① Levels of blood routine, serum vitamin B12 and homocysteine; ② results of neuroelectrophysiological examination; ③ results of MRI examination of spinal cord; ④ prognosis. RESULTS: Clinical data of 21 patients and follow-up data of 20 patients were involved in the final analysis and 1 patient was lost because of living in the other province. ① Clinical manifestations: All 21 patients had typically clinical manifestations. The original symptoms included numbness of lower and/or upper limbs (5 cases), unstable gait (3 cases), limb asthenia (4 cases), limb numbness combined with light asthenia (5 cases), limb numbness combined with unskillful activity (3 cases), and limb numbness combined with unstable gait (1 case). ② Experimental results: Eight subacute combined degeneration of the spinal cord patients accompanied with mild-severe anemia and mean corpuscular volume of 13 patients were increased. Among 13 subacute combined degeneration of the spinal cord patients not administrating vitamin B12 before hospitalization, the levels of serum vitamin B12 of 2 patients were not measured but those of other patients were decreased. After vitamin B12 therapy, the levels of serum vitamin B12 of 8 patients were normal or increased. In addition, the levels of serum homocysteine of 6 patients were not measured but those of 7 patients were increased. While, the levels of homocysteine of 5 following-up patients were normal. The levels of serum vitamin B12 of 8 patients who received with vitamin B12 therapy before hospitalization were normal or increased. Among them, the levels of homocysteine were not measured in 4 patients, those of 3 patients were increased, and that of 1 patient was normal. ③ Results of neuroelectrophysiological examination: Among all patients, 95% (20/21) patients had abnormal sensory-evoked potential, 89% (8/9) patients had abnormal motor evoked potential, 67% (10/15) patients had abnormal nerve conduction, 13% (2/15) patients had neurogenic muscle injury showed by electromyography (EMG), 70% (7/10) patients had abnormal brain-stem auditory evoked potential, and 40% (4/10) patients had abnormal visual evokedpotential. ④ Results of MRI examination of spinal cord: MRI examination demonstrated that 40% (6/15) patients had spinal cord lesion, but spinal cord lesion disappeared in 2 patients during follow up. In addition, clinical manifestations of patients were improved after standard vitamin B12 therapy. CONCLUSION: Nervous system lesion caused by vitamin B12 deficiency is not only involved in spinal cord, also in peripheral nerve, optic nerve, auditory pathway, etc. Diagnosis of the lesion depends on clinical characteristics and level of serum vitamin B12. Especially, neuroelectrophysiological examination, measurement of homocysteine and MRI examination of spinal cord are beneficial for diagnosis and evaluation of therapeutic effects. | Yanhong Shou Caifeng Li Dongsheng Fan Yang Shen Jun Zhang Weizhong Xiao Shuqing Zhao Jinsheng Liu Wei Sui | 2007 | Neural Regeneration Research2007,2,2: | 3
Controllable photonic spin Hall effect with phase function construction显示文摘Photonic spin Hall efect(SHE)provides new opportunities for achieving spin-based photonics applications. However, flexibly manipulating the spin-dependent sltting(SDS)of photonic SHE and imposing extra phase modulation on the two spin components are always a challenge. Here,a controllable SHE mechanism based on phase function construction is reported. It is conduded that the phases with specific functional structures performing a coordinate translation are equivalent to integrating a gradient phase to the original phases.Hence, the original phase can be used for independent phase modulation, and the gradient phase originating from the co-ordinate translation is capable of manipulating the SDS.A metasurface with Pancharatnam-Berry phase that can impose conjugate phases to the two spin components of light is fabricated to verify this mechanism.By shifing the light position, the SDS is continuously manipulated in the visible region, which is successfully used for detecting the polarization llipticity. The extra phase modulation is also performed with the original phase and thus enables measuring singular beams. It is anticipated that the controllable SHE manipulation method may open new avenues in the fields of spin photonics, optical sensing, optical communications, etc. | YANLIANG HE ZHIQIANG XIE BO YANG XUEYU CHEN JUNMIN LIU HUAPENG YE XINXING ZHOU YING LI SHUQING CHEN DIANYUAN FAN | 2020 | Photonics Research2020,8,6: | 3

Experimental investigation of Z-pinch radiation source for indirect drive inertial confinement fusion显示文摘Z-pinch dynamic hohlraums(ZPDHs)could potentially be used to drive inertial confinement fusion targets.Double-or multishell capsules using the technique of volume ignition could exploit the advantages of ZPDHs while tolerating their radiation asymmetry, which would be unacceptable for a central ignition target. In this paper,we review research on Z-pinch implosions and ZPDHs for indirect drive targets at the Institute of Nuclear Physics and Chemistry,China Academy of Engineering Physics. The characteristics of double-shell targets and the associated technical requirements are analyzed through a one-dimensional computer code developed from MULTI-IFE.Some key issues regarding the establishment of suitable sources for dynamic hohlraums are introduced, such as soft X-ray power optimization, novel methods for plasma profile modulation, and the use of thin-shell liner implosions to inhibit the generation of prior-stagnated plasma. Finally, shock propagation and radiation characteristics in a ZPDH are presented and discussed, together with some plans for future work. | Zhenghong Li Zhen Wang Rongkun Xu Jianlun Yang Fan Ye Yanyun Chu Zeping Xu Faxin Chen Shijian Meng Jianmin Qi Qinyuan Hu Yi Qin Jiaming Ning Zhanchang Huang Linbo Li Shuqing Jiang | 2019 | Matter and Radiation at Extremes2019,4,4: | 1
