| 1 | The Prevalence of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and its Association with Lifestyle/dietary Habits among University Faculty and Staff in Chengdu显示文摘Objective To investigate the prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) in different university categories and its association with lifestyle/dietary habits.Methods A cross-sectional study was carried out on 9 378 faculty members and staff who participated in an annual health checkup at three universities selected by random cluster sampling.Demographic,anthropometric,biochemical indices and abdominal ultrasound measurements were collected.A nested case-control study was conducted with 200 NAFLD cases and 200 controls matched by gender,age(±3 years),and university.Results The overall prevalence of NAFLD was 10.3%(13.7% in males and 6.8% in females).The prevalence was significantly higher in the science and engineering university(22.1%) than in the comprehensive universities with(6.4%) and without(10.9%) medical colleges.Obesity/overweight,hyperlipidemia,diabetes mellitus,and family history of NAFLD were independently associated with higher risk of NAFLD,as were frequent consumption of desserts and salty/spicy foods.Using nutritional supplements was a protective factor against NAFLD.Intake of coarse cereals,potatoes,vegetables,fruits,and milk was significantly lower,and intake of red meat,viscera,candies and pastries,cooking oil,and total energy was significantly higher in participants with NAFLD than in controls.Conclusion Science and engineering university faculty and staff are key targets for NAFLD prevention.NAFLD is closely associated with age,gender,university type,metabolic diseases,and lifestyle/dietary habits. | SHI Lei LIU Zhong Wu LI Yun GONG Cai ZHANG Huan SONG Li Juan HUANG Cheng Yu LI Ming | 2012 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2012,25,4: | 16 |
| 2 | Propofol Attenuates a-Synuclein Aggregation and Neuronal Damage in a Mouse Model of Ischemic Stroke显示文摘a-Synuclein is a soluble monomer abundant in the central nervous system. Aggregates of a-synuclein,consisting of higher-level oligomers and insoluble fibrils,have been observed in many chronic neurological diseases and are implicated in neurotoxicity and neurodegeneration.a-Synuclein has recently been shown to aggregate following acute ischemic stroke, exacerbating neuronal damage.Propofol is an intravenous anesthetic that is commonly used during intravascular embolectomy following acute ischemic stroke. While propofol has demonstrated neuroprotective properties following brain injury, the mechanism of protection in the setting of ischemic stroke is unclear. In this study, propofol administration significantly reduced the neurotoxic aggregation of a-synuclein, decreased the infarct area, and attenuated the neurological deficits after ischemic stroke in a mouse model. | 3 | CO_2 gas emplacement age in the Songliao Basin: Insight from volcanic quartz ^(40)Ar-^(39)Ar stepwise crushing显示文摘Due to a lack of suitable minerals, the gas/oil emplacement ages have never been accurately obtained before. CH4-CO2-saline- bearing secondary inclusions are found in quartz from the volcanic rocks of the Yingcheng Formation, the container rocks of the deep CO2 gas reservoir in the Songliao Basin. The inclusion fluid was trapped into microcracks in quartz during the gas em- placement and accumulation, providing an optimal target for the 40Ar-39Ar stepwise crushing technique to determine the CO2 gas emplacement age. 40Ar-39Ar dating results of a quartz sample by stepwise crushing yield a highly linear-regression isochron with an age of 78.4±1.3 Ma, indicating that the accumulation of the deep CO2 gas reservoir in the Songliao Basin occurred in the late Cretaceous. | 4 | Influence of aquatic plants on the hydrogen isotope composition of sedimentary long-chain n-alkanes in the Lake Qinghai region, Qinghai-Tibet Plateau显示文摘The hydrogen isotopic composition(δD) of leaf wax long-chain n-alkanes(C27, C29, and C31) from lacustrine sediments has been widely applied to reconstruct terrestrial paleoclimatic and paleohydrological changes. However, few studies have addressed whether the aquatic-derived n-alkanes can affect the δD values of lake sedimentary long-chain n-alkanes, which are usually regarded as a recorder of the terrestrial hydrological signals. Here we systematically investigated δD values of long-chain n-alkanes from modern aquatic plants, both near-shore and off-shore surface sediments, surrounding terrestrial plant litters, as well as river water and lake water in Lake Qinghai and its satellite lakes on the northeastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Our data showed that(i) δD values of long-chain n-alkanes from aquatic plants varied from-184‰ to-132‰ for n-C27, from-183‰ to-138‰ for n-C29, and from-189‰ to-130‰ for n-C31, respectively, with no significant differences among the three n-alkanes homologues;(ii) δD values of long-chain n-alkanes from aquatic plants were generally more positive than those from surrounding terrestrial plants, possibly because that they recorded the D-enrichment of lake water in this semi-arid region;(iii) δD values of long-chain n-alkanes from surface sediments showed significant differences among the three n-alkanes homologues, due to the larger aquatic input of n-C27 to the sedimentary lipid pool than that of n-C31, and(iv) n-C27 δD values of near-shore aquatic plants and near-shore sediments are more negative than those from off-shore as a result of lower δD values of near-shore lake water. | 5 | Detrital K-feldspar^(40)Ar/^(39)Ar Ages:Source Constraints of the Lower Miocene Sandstones in the Pearl River Mouth Basin,South China Sea显示文摘The South China Sea began to outspread in the Oligocene.A great quantity of terraneous detritus was deposited in the northern continental shelf of the sea,mostly in Pearl River Mouth Basin,which constituted the main paleo-Pearl River Delta.The delta developed for a long geological time and formed a superimposed area.Almost all the oil and gas fields of detrital rock reservoir distribute in this delta.Thirty-three oil sandstone core samples in the Zhujiang Formation,lower Miocene(23-16 Ma),were collected from nine wells.The illite samples with detrital K feldspar(Kfs) separated from these sandstone cores in four sub-structural belts were analysed by the high-precision 40Ar/39Ar laser stepwise heating technique.All 33 illite 40Ar/39Ar data consistently yielded gradually rising age spectra at the low-temperature steps until reaching age plateaus at mid-high temperature steps.The youngest ages corresponding to the beginning steps were interpreted as the hydrocarbon accumulation ages and the plateau ages in mid-high temperature steps as the contributions of the detrital feldspar representing the ages of the granitic parent rocks in the provenances.The ages of the detrital feldspar from the Zhujiang Formation in the four sub-structural belts were different:(1) the late Cretaceous ages in the Lufeng 13 fault structural belt;(2) the late Cretaceous and early Cretaceous-Jurassic ages in the Huizhou 21 buried hill-fault belt;(3) the Jurassic and Triassic ages in the Xijiang 24 buried hill-fault belt;and(4) the early Cretaceous-late Jurassic ages in the Panyu 4 oil area.These detrital feldspar 40Ar/39Ar ages become younger and younger from west to east,corresponding to the age distribution of the granites in the adjacent Guangdong Province,Southern China. | LIU Zaisheng SHI Hesheng ZHU Junzhang QIU Huaning ZHANG Zhilin YUN Jianbing | 2012 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2012,86,2: | 9 |
| 6 | ^(40)Ar/^(39)Ar geochronology constraints on hydrocarbon accumulation and destruction periods in the Bankeng paleo-reservoir in the southern margin of the middle Yangtze block显示文摘The exact determination of isotopic ages of hydrocarbon accumulation,reconstruction and destruction periods using traditional isotopic dating methods is complex because of the small numbers of minerals that correlate with hydrocarbons.The quantitative and direct study of hydrocarbon geochronology is therefore an important scientific problem for isotope geochronology and petroleum geology.This study obtains two isotopic ages from a quartz vein sample associated with bitumen in a reverse fault located in the Bankeng paleo-reservoir on the southern margin of the middle Yangtze block (the northern margin of the JiangnanXuefeng uplift) by inclusion 40Ar/39Ar stepwise crushing in a vacuum.Two different and good linear inverse isochrons that correspond to two age plateaus were determined.The two ages correspond to primary inclusions of about 228 Ma and secondary inclusions of about 149 Ma.These inclusion groups represent two distinct kinds of fluids.Quartz veins associated with bitumen in faulted paleo-reservoirs,which have a strict response relationship with tectonization and hydrocarbon accumulation,are the unified products of tectonic processes,hydrocarbon accumulation and reconstruction.Therefore,they can be used to constrain the hydrocarbon accumulation,reconstruction and destruction periods that are controlled by multiphase and complicated tectonic actions.The evolutionary processes of hydrocarbon accumulation can be divided into two periods consisting of a primary oil and gas reservoir formation period in the late Indosinian epoch (about 228 Ma) and a period of oil and gas reservoir reconstruction in the early Yanshan epoch (about 149 Ma).This study quantitatively reconstructs the hydrocarbon accumulation and destruction chronological framework of a giant hydrocarbon accumulation belt along the southern margin of the middle Yangtze block (the northern margin of the Jiangnan-Xuefeng uplift) controlled by multiphase and complicated tectonism.The two ages associated with hydrocarbons here correspond to the special controlling actions of continental tectonics in the Jiangnan-Xuefeng uplift that affected the timeline of reconstruction and destruction in this giant marine hydrocarbon accumulation.This study shows the feasibility and usefulness of dating inclusions with the 40Ar/39Ar technique for hydrocarbon geochronology,especially in the marine hydrocarbon accumulation region of southern China within a geological setting of old strata,high thermal evolution hydrocarbons,and complex,multiphase and multicycle tectonization. | LIU ZhaoQian MEI LianFu QIU HuaNing SHEN ChuanBo TANG JiGuang YUN JianBing | 2011 | Chinese Science Bulletin2011,56,26: | 7 |

| 10 | Evolutionary analysis of allotetraploid hybrids of red crucian carp×common carp,based on ISSR,AFLP molecular markers and cloning of cyclins genes显示文摘The allotetraploid hybrids of red crucian carp × common carp are the first reported artificially cultured polyploid fish with bisexual fertility and stable inheritance in vertebrate. Using ISSR and AFLP markers and the cyclins genes, the genomes and cyclin gene sequence changes were analyzed between the allotetraploid hybrids and their parents. The results indicated that the allotetraploids inherited many genetic characteristics from their parents and the genetic characteristics were stable after 15 generations. However, the allotetraploids had a closer genetic relationship with their original female parents and represented a bias toward the maternal progenitor. DNA fingerprinting analysis showed that the allotetraploids had undergone sequences deletion from their original parents and that the deleted sequences were mostly from the male parent's genome. Some non-parental bands were found in the allotetraploid hybrids. Sequences analysis of the cyclin A1 and B1 genes showed nonsynonymous substitutions of single nucleotides in codons that were different from their original parents, leading to non-parental amino acid loci. | 14 | A Reverse-transcription Recombinase-aided Amplification Assay for the Rapid Detection of the Far-Eastern Subtype of Tick-borne Encephalitis Virus显示文摘Objective Tick-borne encephalitis virus(TBEV) is an emerging pathogen in Europe and North Asia that causes tick-borne encephalitis(TBE). A simple, rapid method for detecting TBEV RNA is needed to control this disease. Methods A reverse-transcription recombinase-aided amplification(RT-RAA) assay was developed. This assay can be completed in one closed tube at 39℃ within 30 minutes. The sensitivity and specificity of RT-RAA were validated using non-infectious synthetic RNA representing a fragment of the NS5 region of the wild-type(WT) TBEV genome and the Senzhang strain. Additionally, 10 batches of tick samples were used to evaluate the performance of the RT-RAA assay. Results The analytical limit of detection of the assay was 20 copies per reaction of the TBEV synthetic transcript and 3 plaque-forming units(pfu) per reaction of TBEV titers. With the specific assay, no signal due to other arboviruses was observed. Of the 10 batches of tick samples obtained from the Changbai Mountains of China, three were TBEV-positive, which was consistent with the results of the quantitative real-time PCR assay. | 17 | Cell wallβ-1,4-galactan regulated by the BPC1/BPC2-GALS1 module aggravates salt sensitivity in Arabidopsis thaliana显示文摘Salinity severely reduces plant growth and limits agricultural productivity.Dynamic changes and rearrangement of the plant cell wall is an important response to salt stress,but relatively little is known about the biological importance of specific cell wall components in the response.Here,we demonstrate a specific function ofβ-1,4-galactan in salt hypersensitivity.We found that salt stress induces the accumulation ofβ-1,4-galactan in root cell walls by up regulating the expression of GALACTAN SYNTHASE 1(GALS1),which encodes aβ-1,4-galactan synthase.The accumulation ofβ-1,4-galactan negatively affects salt tolerance.Exogenous application of D-galactose(D-Gal)causes an increase inβ-1,4-galactan levels in the wild type and GALS1 mutants,especially in GALS1 overexpressors,which correlated with the aggravated salt hypersensitivity.Furthermore,we discovered that the BARLEY B RECOMBINANT/BASIC PENTACYSTEINE transcription factors BPC1/BPC2 positively regulate plant salt tolerance by repressing GALS1 expression andβ-1,4-galactan accumulation.Genetic analysis suggested that GALS1 is genetically epistatic to BPC1/BPC2 with respect to the control of salt sensitivity as well as accumulation ofβ-1,4-galactan.Taken together,our results reveal a new regulatory mechanism by whichβ-1,4-galactan regulated by the BPC1/BPC2-GALS1 module aggravates salt sensitivity in Arabidopsis thaliana. | Jingwei Yan Ya Liu Lan Yang Huan He Yun Huang Lin Fang Henrik Vibe Scheller Mingyi Jiang Aying Zhang | 2021 | Molecular Plant2021,14,3: | 3 |
