1Bird diversity and waterbird habitat preferences in relation to wetland restoration at Dianchi Lake, south-west China显示文摘Background:Restoration projects have been implemented worldwide to mitigate the adverse effects of the loss and degradation of wetland habitats.Much research has been carried out on the impacts on birds of wetland restoration and management projects in China. Studies have mainly investigated central or coastal wetlands,while inland wetlands in remote areas have been much less studied. We focused on examining the response of wild birds to wetland restoration in Dianchi Lake,south-west China. Methods: The line transect method was performed at 26 sampling plots.Three of these were in the city,and to acquire all wild bird data 23 plots were located every 2-8 km along the shore of Dianchi Lake, between December 2011 and November 2013.We collected all related bird records by searching the available literature, articles, newspapers and records of birdwatchers to compare species variation before and after implementation of wetland restoration.To measure the relationships between waterbird assemblages and habitat structures, we used canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) to pair the main matrix of bird assemblages with a second matrix of habitat variables. Results: We recorded 182 bird species belonging to 51 families and 17 orders. Of the species, 42 were new records for Kunming City and 20 were new records for Yunnan Province. Ten waterbird species were found to have disappeared from the shore of Dianchi Lake.CCA results indicated that waterbirds could be divided into four categories based on their habitat preference:synanthropic (wintering gulls), special habitat (shorebirds),semi-natural (wintering coots and ducks) and disturbance-tolerant (resident) species.Conclusions:Our study is the first to consider the entire wild bird community throughout the year and discuss the species variation before and after wetland restoration projects launched for Dianchi Lake.Distinct habitat requirements of different waterbird groups were detected in our study,suggesting different types of restoration and management should be implemented.Kang Luo Zhaolu Wu Haotian Bai Zijiang Wang 2019Avian Research2019,10,3:9
2Perception and Attitudes of Local Communities Towards Wild Elephant-related Problems and Conservation in Xishuangbanna,Southwestern China显示文摘The problem of wild elephants, or human-elephant conflict (HEC), influences the daily life of local communities and hinders the conservation of wild elephants.The perception and attitudes of local communities who inhabited the frontiers between human activities and wild elephant movement are important to the mitigation of the HEC and conservation of wild elephants. To analyze the perception and attitudes of local communities, the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) was used in the investigation of 423 interviewees from 22 villages in Xishuangbanna from July 2009 to February 2010. The results indicated that local communities had their views on the elephant-related problems. In field survey, we found that 66.5% of interviewees were willing to support, participate in, and assist in the conservation of wild elephants;33.5% of interviewees were opposed or indifferent to such conservation, because their livelihoods and even their lives were endangered by wild elephants. These views and attitudes were influenced by local communities′perception of HEC, education level, gender and self-interest. 3Impermeability of Y_3Al_5O_(12) ceramic against molten glassy calcium-magnesium-alumina-silicate显示文摘Degradation of thermal barrier coatings(TBCs) caused by calcium-magnesium-aluminasilica(CMAS) glassy penetration is becoming an urgent issue for TBCs industrial applications. In this work, yttrium aluminum garnet(Y_3Al_5O_(12), YAG) nano-powders were synthesized through a chemical co-precipitation route. The resistance of YAG ceramic to glassy CMAS infiltration at1250 °C was evaluated. YAG ceramic bulk sintered at 1700 °C for 10 h was comprised of a single garnet-type Y_3Al_5O_(12) phase. The molten CMAS glass was suppressed on the surface of the YAG ceramic at 1250 °C. 4The development of polycarbophil as a bioadhesive material in pharmacy显示文摘Polycarbophil(PCP),a kind of pharmaceutical polymers with superior bioadhesive properties has been widely used in the field of controlled drug delivery systems.It could be used as a highly efficient thickener,bioadhesive agent,suspending aid and emulsion stabilizer when dispersed in water or other polar solvents.These exceptional utilities of the polymers result from their hydrophilic nature.Hydrogen bonding plays an important role in most adhesion behaviours and becomes the main adhesion force.This paper reviews the applications of PCP in pharmacy over the past decades,and clarifies its unique advantages in the bioadhesive formulations.After an introduction discussing its structural characteristics and action mechanism,the focus turned to the description of its available applications in detail with particular emphasis on the ocular,nasal,vagina and oral drug delivery systems.The other less developed formulations are also described,including the buccal and the transdermal delivery systems.Zhaolu Zhu Yinglei Zhai Ning Zhang Donglei Leng Pingtian Ding 2013Asian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences2013,8,4:3
5Regulation of the radiosensitivity of tumor cells through HIF-1α dependent intracellular redox status after fractionated radiation显示文摘Tumor cells often develop resistance to radiotherapy by fractionated radiation possibly due to the heterogeneity and hypoxia in tumor tissue.However,the mechanism of refractory effect remains unclear.In the present study,a radioresistant variant HepG2/R60 cell line was isolated from human HepG2 cells by repeated exposure to radiation.The results showed that,after irradiation,the higher survival rate was in HepG2/R60 cells compared to parental cells.Hypoxia treatment could further increase the radioresistance of HepG2/R60 cells concomitant with high level of intracellular GSH and overexpression of HIF-1α.When hypoxic HepG2/R60 cells were pretreated with BSO,a GSH depleter,the refractory response was significantly reduced showing a decrease in intracellular GSH level,followed by the suppression of HIF-1α in hypoxic cells.Subsequent study found that the level of BCL-2 was down-regulated,targeted by HIF-1 prompting transcription in hypoxic cells.The effect of HIF-1α on the radiosensitivity of hypoxic cells was confirmed using YC-1,a specific inhibitor of HIF-1α.Consequently,our results suggest that the radiosensitivity of tumor cells might be regulated by fractionated radiation,and the radioresistance of cells induced by repeated exposure,under hypoxic condition,could be correlated with overexpression of HIF-1α dependent on the alteration of intracellular GSH contents.JIN Wensen KONG Zhaolu SHEN Zhifen JIN Yizun ZHANG Wukui 2010Nuclear Science and Techniques2010,21,5:2

8A High-affinity Activator of G551D-CFTR Chloride Channel Identified By High Throughput Screening显示文摘A stably transfected CHO cell line coexpressing G551D-CFTR and iodide-sensitive yellow fluorescent protein mutant EYFP-H148Q-I152L was successfully established and used as assay model to identify small-molecule activators of G551D-CFTR chloride channel from 100000 diverse combinatorial compounds by high throughput screening on a customized Beckman robotic system. A bicyclooctane compound was identified to activate G551D-CFTR chloride channel with high-affinity(K d=1.8 μmol/L). The activity of the bicyclooctane compound is G551D-CFTR-specific, reversible and non-toxic. 11A simple method to improve the dissolution of repaglinide and exploration of its mechanism显示文摘In the present study,a simple and rapid method was developed to improve the in vitro dissolution of repaglinide,an oral antidiabetic drug,which was based on addition of meglumine in 50%(v/v)ethanol to dissolve repaglinide,and the drug dissolved in meglumine/50%ethanol was used directly with a binder to prepare tablets.The mechanism of solubilization of repaglinide by meglumine was studied by using infrared spectrum(IR),ultraviolet(UV)measurement through dual wavelength,differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)and X-ray powder diffraction methods.Dissolution tests of repaglinide tablets were performed in the media with different pH values and the repaglinide concentrations were analyzed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography(HPLC)method.The solubility data showed that with the meglumine concentration increasing,the solubility of repaglinide was increased.Meanwhile,tablets with the molar ratio of repaglinide and meglumine 1:2(n/n)resulted in a significant increase in dissolution compared to the repaglinide tablets without using meglumine,and nearly equal to the commercial preparations of Novo-Norm^(®),which concluded that meglumine had a great role in promoting the dissolution of repaglinide.The results of IR and UV dual wavelength methods suggested the formation of repaglinideemeglumine(REPeMEG)molecular complex.DSC results showed that the melting peak of repaglinide disappeared in the REPeMEG coprecipitate,which indicated that repaglinide was stable when existing at amorphous or molecular state.The experiment of X-ray powder diffraction showed that with the solubilization of meglumine,the crystal diffraction peak of repaglinide disappeared,which further inferred that repaglinide was formed complexes with meglumine.It was demonstrated that the method of improving repaglinide with meglumine was reliable and could be suitable for repaglinide tablets production in industry.This study also provides a feasible way to enhance the dissolution of drugs with low solubility,which will be leading to improved bioavailability of these drugs.Zhaolu Zhu Tianzhi Yang Yanan Zhao Nannan Gao Donglei Leng Pingtian Ding 2014Asian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences2014,9,4:1

17Activation of G551D-CFTR by Bicyclooctane Compounds Is cAMP-dependent and Exhibits Low Sensitivity to Thiazolidinone CFTR Inhibitor CFTRinh-172显示文摘The G551D-CFTR mutation causing cystic fibrosis(CF) results from a missense mutation at codon 551(G551D) in the gene encoding of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator(CFTR). The G551D mutation in CFTR results in a reduced functional channel but G551D-CFTR is appropriately inserted in the apical membrane. In previous studies we discovered a class of high-affinity bicyclooctane(BCO) G551D-CFTR activators(G551D_ BCOs) with K_d down to 1 μmol/L. In this study, we analyzed the pharmacological activation of G551D-CFTR by the G551D_ BCOs by means of short circuit current analysis and cell-based fluorescence quenching assay. The G551D_ BCOs-induced G551D-CFTR activation is cAMP-dependent and is less sensitive to thiazolidinone CFTR inhibitor CFTRinh-172. 18A Class of High-affinity Bicyclooctane G551D-CFTR Activators Identified by High Throughput Screening显示文摘The glycine-to-aspartic acid missense mutation at the codon 551(G551D) of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator(CFTR) is one of the five most frequent cystic fibrosis(CF) mutations associated with a severe CF phenotype. To explore the feasibility of pharmacological correction of disrupted activation of CFTR chloride channel caused by G551D mutation, we developed a halide-sensitive fluorescence miniassay for G551D-CFTR in Fisher rat thyroid(FRT) epithelial cells for the discovery of novel activators of G551D-CFTR. A class of bicyclooctane small molecule compounds that efficiently stimulate G551D-CFTR chloride channel activity was identified by high throughput screening via the FRT cell-based assay. This class of compounds selectively activates G551D-CFTR with a high affinity, whereas little effect of the compounds on wildtype CFTR can be seen. 19Operando generated copper‐based catalyst enabling efficient electrosynthesis of 2,5‐bis(hydroxymethyl)furan显示文摘Electrocatalytic upgrading of biomass-derived platform molecules has emerged as a sustainable and environmentally benign route to produce high-value chemicals.The main challenge lies in developing efficient catalysts for the selective activation of designated chemical bonds in the presence of various reducible groups.This work demonstrated a high-efficiency electrochemical conversion of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural(HMF)to 2,5-bis(hydroxymethyl)furan(BHMF),an important industrial synthetic reagent.A highly porous Cu-based catalyst was developed that achieved nearly 100%BHMF selectivity and long-term stability.Through comprehensive operando and ex-situ structural characterizations,an electrochemically generated catalyst with abundant Cu/Cu2O interfaces was identified as a catalytically active phase for HMF conversion.Deuterated BHMF,with the potential to produce deuterated drugs,was also synthesized using D2O as the deuterium source.Density functional theory calculations show that the Cu/Cu2O interface structure exhibits relatively low energy barriers for the hydrogenation of HMF to BHMF.This work provides insights into the origin of electrocatalytic hydrogenation activity and highlights the promising potential of the electrocatalytic synthesis of high-value chemicals.Zhaolu Zhang Kai Huang Xinyue Qiu Wangxin Ge Xiaoling Yang Yihua Zhu Cheng Lian Honglai Liu Hongliang Jiang Chunzhong Li 2023Fundamental Research2023,3,5:0
