| 1 | Comparison of Histological, Microbiological, and Molecular Methods in Diagnosis of Patients with TBLN Having Different Anti-TB Treatment Background显示文摘Objective The influence of anti-tuberculosis(TB) treatment history on tuberculous lymphadenitis(TBLN) diagnosis is unclear. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the diagnostic methods, including histology, microbiology, and molecular tests, used for TBLN. Methods In this study, suspected patients with TBLN and having different anti-TB treatment background were enrolled. All the samples were tested simultaneously by histology, Ziehl-Neelsen(ZN) staining, mycobacterial culture(culture), Xpert MTB/RIF(xpert), real-time PCR, and high-resolution melting curve PCR(HRM). Thereafter, the performance of these methods on samples with different anti-TB treatment background was assessed. Results In our study, 89 patients were prospectively included 82 patients with TBLN and 7 with other diseases. The overall sensitivities of Xpert, real-time PCR, histology, ZN staining, and culture were 86.6%, 69.5%, 58.5%, 43.9%, and 22.0%, respectively. The anti-TB treatment history revealed dramatic influences on the sensitivity of culture(P < 0.0001). In fact, the treatment that lasted over 3 months also influenced the sensitivity of Xpert(P < 0.05). However, the treatment history did not affect the performance of remaining tests(P > 0.05). For rifampicin drug susceptibility test(DST), the anti-TB treatment showed only significant influence on the success rate of culture DST(P = 0.001), but not on those of Xpert and HRM tests(P > 0.05). | 7 | Effect of Iodine Supplementation on Iodine Nutrition and Thyroid Function in Pregnant Women:A Cross-Sectional Study显示文摘This study aimed to describe the situation of iodine supplementation in pregnant women,and to explore the effects of such supplementation measures on iodine nutrition and thyroid function.Pregnant women in seven provinces were selected by multi-stage sampling.Basic information was collected and a food frequency questionnaire was administered.Salt iodine,urinary iodine,and thyroid function were determined.Subjects were divided into five groups based on iodine supplementation.For pregnant women,the median urinary iodine concentration(MUIC)in seven provinces was 164.3μg/L,and thyroid nodules(15.75%)were a common thyroid disease.Gestation,iodine supplementation,etc.impacted iodine nutrition and thyroid function.Compared with other groups,simultaneous iodine supplementation with iodized salt,iodine-rich foods,and iodine preparations(the ISFP group)was the most effective approach for improving iodine nutrition;supplementation via iodine-rich foods only showed the lowest prevalence of TPOAb-positive(5.48%)and TgAb-positive(1.37%)diseases.In addition,pregnant women with MUIC in the 150–249μg/L range showed higher rates of TPOAb-positive(13.78%)disease and sub-hypothyroidism(5.38%)compared to those with MUIC in the 100–149μg/L range;however,goiter showed the opposite trend.Our results indicate that iodine supplementation needs vary from person to person. | SUN Rong QIAN Ting Ting LIU Lan Chun ZHAO Meng CHE Wen Jing ZHANG Ling LI Wei Dong JIA Qing Zhen WANG Jian Hui LI Jin Shu CHEN Zhi Hui ZHANG Bi Yun LIU Peng | 2022 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2022,35,7: | 1 |
| 8 | Relationship between Dining Place, Iodine Source, and Iodine Nutrition in School-Age Children: A Cross-Sectional Study in China显示文摘Objective This study assesses the impact of iodine-rich processed foods and dining places on the iodine nutritional status of children.Methods School-aged children(SAC) in seven provinces in China were selected by school-based multistage sampling. Urinary iodine, salt iodine, and thyroid volume(TVOL) were determined. Questionnaires were used to investigate dining places and iodine-rich processed foods. The water iodine was from the2017 national survey. Multi-factor regression analysis was used to find correlations between variables.Results Children ate 78.7% of their meals at home, 15.1% at school canteens, and 6.1% at other places.The percentage of daily iodine intake from water, iodized salt, iodine-rich processed foods, and cooked food were 1.0%, 79.2%, 1.5%, and 18.4%, respectively. The salt iodine was correlated with the urinary iodine and TVOL, respectively(r = 0.999 and-0.997, P < 0.05). The iodine intake in processed foods was weakly correlated with the TVOL(r = 0.080, P < 0.01). Non-iodized salt used in processed foods or diets when eating out had less effect on children’s iodine nutrition status.Conclusion Iodized salt remains the primary source of daily iodine intake of SAC, and processed food has less effect on iodine nutrition. | 9 | GPR Surveying in the kernel area of Grove Mountains,Antarctica显示文摘The Grove Mountains, located between the Zhongshan Station and Dome A, are a very important area in inland Antarctic research. China has organized five investigations of the Grove Mountains, encompassing the geological structure, ancient climate, meteorites, ice-movement monitoring, basic mapping, meteorological observations, and other multi-disciplinary observational studies. During the 26th Chinese National Antarctic Research Expedition in 2010, the Grove Mountains investigation team applied specialized ground-penetrating radar(GPR) to survey subglacial topography in the eastern kernel area of the Grove Mountains. In this paper, we processed GPS and GPR data gathered in the field and drew, for the first time, two subglacial topographic maps of the Grove Mountains kernel area using professional graphics software. The preliminary results reveal the mystery of the nunatak landform of this area, give an exploratory sense of the real bedrock landforms, and indicate a possible sedimentary basin under the Pliocene epoch fossil ice in the Grove Mountains area. | 15 | Establishment and validation of a nomogram to predict the risk of ovarian metastasis in gastric cancer: Based on a large cohort显示文摘BACKGROUND Ovarian metastasis is a special type of distant metastasis unique to female patients with gastric cancer.The pathogenesis of ovarian metastasis is incompletely understood,and the treatment options are controversial.Few studies have predicted the risk of ovarian metastasis.It is not clear which type of gastric cancer is more likely to metastasize to the ovary.A prediction model based on risk factors is needed to improve the rate of detection and diagnosis.AIM To analyze risk factors of ovarian metastasis in female patients with gastric cancer and establish a nomogram to predict the probability of occurrence based on different clinicopathological features.METHODS A retrospective cohort of 1696 female patients with gastric cancer between January 2006 and December 2017 were included in a single center,and patients with distant metastasis other than ovary and peritoneum metastasis were excluded.Potential risk factors for ovarian metastasis were analyzed using univariate and multivariable logistic regression.Independent risk factors were chosen to construct a nomogram which received internal validation.RESULTS Ovarian metastasis occurred in 83 of 1696 female patients.Univariate analysis showed that age,Lauren type,whether the primary lesion contained signet-ring cells,vascular tumor emboli,T stage,N stage,the expression of estrogen receptor,the expression of progesterone receptor,serum carbohydrate antigen 125 and the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio were risk factors for ovarian metastasis of gastric cancer(all P<0.05).Multivariate analysis showed that age<50 years,Lauren typing of non-intestinal,gastric cancer lesions containing signet-ring cell components,N stage>N2,positive expression of estrogen receptor,serum carbohydrate antigen 125>35 U/mL,and a neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio>2.16 were independent risk factors(all P<0.05).The independent risk factors were constructed into a nomogram model using R language software.The consistency index after continuous correction was 0.840[95%confidence interval:(0.7740.906)].After the internal self-sampling(Bootstrap)test,the calibration curve of the model was obtained with an average absolute error of 0.007.The receiver operating characteristic curve of the obtained model was drawn.The area under the curve was 0.867,the maximal Youden index was 0.613,the corresponding sensitivity was 0.794,and the specificity was 0.819.CONCLUSION The nomogram model performed well in the prediction of ovarian metastasis.Attention should be paid to the possibility of ovarian metastasis in high-risk populations during re-examination,to ensure early detection and treatment. | Shao-Qing Li Ke-Cheng Zhang Ji-Yang Li Wen-Quan Liang Yun-He Gao Zhi Qiao Hong-Qing Xi Lin Che | 2020 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2020,8,19: | 1 |

| 18 | Liquid spreading on a pre-wetted biomimetic surface inspired by a dog's tongue显示文摘Liquid film flow widely exists in industries due to its high thermal efficiency and low flow flux. The spreading of the liquid film is strongly influenced by the properties of the working surface. A biomimetic surface with multi-scale structures inspired by the skin of a dog's tongue is proposed in this paper for the enhancement of heat and mass transfer. The spreading and flow behaviors of a gravity-driven liquid falling down the pre-wetted biomimetic surface are compared with that on the smooth surfaces, via the combination of numerical simulations using the volume of fluid(VOF) method, and experimental measurements using high-speed imaging. On the pre-wetted smooth substrate, liquid merges with two droplets before the free surface of the liquid slowly develops into a parabolic shape. In contrast, on the biomimetic surface, liquid rapidly and uniformly spreads into a thin film which could effectively enhance mass transfer in both spanwise and streamwise directions.
