SHRIMP zircon U-Pb ages for the Paleoproterozoic metamorphic-magmatic events in the southeast margin of the North China Craton显示文摘A garnet-pyroxene bearing amphibolite as a xenolith hosted by the Mesozoic igneous rocks from Xuzhou-Suzhou area was dated by zircon SHRIMP U-Pb method, which yields a metamorphic age of 1918 ± 56 Ma. In addition, the zircons from a garnet amphibolite as a lens interbedded with marble in the Archean metamorphic complex named Wuhe group in the Bengbu uplift give a metamorphic U-Pb age of 1857 ± 19 Ma, and the zircons from Shimenshan deformed granite in the eastern margin of the Bengbu uplift give a magma crystallization U-Pb age of 2054 ± 22 Ma. Both the Xuzhou-Suzhou area and Bengbu uplift are located in the southeastern margin of the North China Craton. Therefore, these ages indicate that there is a Paleoproterozoic tectonic zone in the southeastern margin of the North China Craton, and its metamorphic and magmatic ages are consistent with those of the other three Paleoproterozoic tectonic zones in the North China Craton. In view of the large scale sinistral strike-slip movement occurred at the Mesozoic along the Tan-Lu fault zone, the position of the eastern Shandong area, which is a south section of the Paleoproterozoic Jiao-Liao-Ji Belt, was correlated to Xuzhou-Suzhou-Bengbu area prior to movement of the Tan-Lu fault zone. This suggests that the Xuzhou-Suzhou-Bengbu Paleoproterozoic tectonic zone might be a southwest extension of the Paleoproterozoic Jiao-Liao-Ji Belt.GUO SuShu LI ShuGuang 2009Science China Earth Sciences2009,52,8:33
The recognizing of ca. 1.95 Ga tectono-thermal eventin Kong-ling nucleus and its significance for the evolution of Yangtze Block, South China显示文摘Some 1.95 Ga metamorphism of high-grade Ar-chean rocks in Kongling terrain, continental nucleus of Yangtze Block, South China, are recognized by Sm-Nd dating. This event is further confirmed by the ages of single zircon SHRIMP U-Pb and K-Ar analyses of TTG and (or) paragneisses, and intrusions of potassic-granitic batholith in the region. The coincidence in period between the high-grade metamorphism in the Kongling area and the creation of major basement rocks of its neighborhoods of the Yangtze Block around the Kongling Archean nucleus makes it a favorable explanation for their tectonic connections that, in the whole Yangtze Block there was some tectono-thermal event of ca. 2.0-1.8 Ga, which resulted in the formation of unitive Yangtze basement.LING Wenli GAO Shan ZHANG Benren ZHOU Lian XU Qidong 2001Chinese Science Bulletin2001,46,4:29
Timing of the granulite facies metamorphism in the Sanggan area,North China craton:zircon U-Pb geochronology显示文摘Zircon U-Pb ages are reported for three samples of intrusive rocks in Khondalite series in the Sanggan area, North China craton. The age of meta-granite is dated as 2005±9 Ma, implying that the sedimentary sequences in Khondalites series formed before 2.0Ga. The age of 1921 ±1Ma for the meta-diorite constrain the age of granulite facies metamorphism younger than this date. The age of 1892±10 Ma for garnet granite is obtained, but the granite crystallization age seems a little younger than the date considering the morphology of zircons. On the basis of these dates and of a concise review of previous age data, it is inferred that the Khondalite series was subjected to granulite facies metamorphism at about 1.87Ga together with tonalitic granulites and HP basic granulites in the Sanggan area.郭敬辉 翟明国 许荣华 2001Science China Earth Sciences2001,44,11:21
Paleoproterozoic volcanic rocks in the southern margin of the North China Craton, central China:Implications for the Columbia supercontinent显示文摘The volcanic rocks of the Xiong’er Group are situated in the southern margin of the North China Craton(NCC).Research on the Xiong er Group is important to understand the tectonic evolution of the NCC and the Columbia supercontinent during the Paleoproterozoic. In this study,to constrain the age of the Xiong’er volcanic rocks and identify its tectonic environment,we report zircon LA-ICP-MS data with Hf isotope,whole-rock major and trace element compositions and Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf isotopes of the volcanic rocks of the Xiong’er Group. The Xiong’er volcanic rocks mainly consist of basaltic andesite, andesite.dacite and rhyolite, with minor basalt. Our new sets of data combined with those from previous studies indicate that Xiong’er volcanism should have lasted from 1827 Ma to 1746 Ma as the major phase of the volcanism. These volcanics have extremely low MgO.Cr and Ni contents, are enriched in LREEs and LILEs but depleted in HFSEs(Nb,Ta,and Ti),similar to arc-related volcanic rocks. They are characterized by negative zirconεHft values of-17.4 to 8.8,whole-rock initial 87Sr/86Sr values of 0.7023 to 0.7177 andεNd(t)values of-10.9 to 6.4.and Pb isotopes(206Pb/204Pb=14.366-16.431,207Pb/204Pb=15.106-15.371,208Pb/204Pb=32.455-37.422).The available elemental and Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf isotope data suggest that the Xiong’er volcanic rocks were sourced from a mantle contaminated by continental crust. The volcanic rocks of the Xiong’er Group might have been generated by high-degree partial melting of a lithospheric mantle that was originally modified by oceanic subduction in the Archean. Thus,we suggest that the subduction-modified lithospheric mantle occurred in an extensional setting during the breakup of the Columbia supercontinent in the Late Paleoproterozoic, rather than in an arc setting.Changming Wang Xinyu He Emmanuel John M. 5Paleoproterozoic granitic gneisses of the Dinggye and LhagoiKangri areas from the higher and northern Himalaya,Tibet:Geochronology and implications显示文摘Granitic gneisses have been widely found in crystalline rocks in the Dinggye area of the Higher Himalaya (HHM) and the LhagoiKangri area of the North Himalaya (NHM), Tibet. In the HHM, the gneisses intruded in the granulite-amphibolite facies metamorphosed sedimentary rocks, known as Nyalam group. In the NHM, the gneisses intruded in the amphibolite facies metamorphosed ones, known as LhagoiKangri group. These granitic gneisses are peraluminous monzonitic granites in terms of their mineral assemblage, and are considered as being derived from metamorphosed sedimentary rocks by anatexis based on the transitional relationship of the gneisses with their migmatitized wall rocks. Zircons are similar in crystal shape and interior structure from both gneisses. Most of them are euhedral or subhedral elongated prism-shaped transparent crystals, with fine oscillatory zoning, showing the magmatic genesis. Some of them are short prism-shaped and with relict core inherited from magma source and oscillatory zoning mantle crystallized from magma. SHRIMP U-Pb dating of zicons shows that both the granitic gneisses in the HHM and NHM are Paleoproterozoic (1811.6±2.9 Ma and 1811.7±7.2 Ma, respectively). These ages are similar to those (1815 to 2120 Ma) from granitic gneiss which is widely distributed in the Lesser Himalaya (LHM). The ages of inherited zircons (>2493.9±7.0 Ma, 2095.8± 8.8 Ma, 1874±29 Ma) exhibit the possible presence of several thermal events in Paleoproterozoic. All of the ages suggest the same India basement beneath the different units in Himalaya area, and do not support the idea that the HHM and NHM are accretionary terranes in Pan-Africa orogenic event. The fact that the basement in HHM is as old as or even younger than LHM is inconsistent with the presently prevalent orogenic models such as either extrusion of low-viscosity mid-crust or orogenic channel.LIAO QunAn LI DeWei LU Lian YUAN YieMing CHU LingLin 2008Science China Earth Sciences2008,51,2:5
Archean-Paleoproterozoic Lithospheric Mantle at the Northern Margin of the North China Craton Represented by Tectonically Exhumed Peridotites显示文摘Tectonically emplaced peridotites from North Hebei Province, North China Craton, have retained an original harzburgite mineral assemblage of olivine(54%–58%) + orthopyroxene(40%–46%)+minor clinopyroxene(<1%)+spinel. Samples with boninite-like chemical compositions also coexist with these peridotites. The spinels within the peridotites have high-Al end-members with Al_2O_3 content of 30 wt % –50 wt %, typical of mantle spinels. When compared with experimentally determined melt extraction trajectories, the harzburgites display a high degree of melting and enrichment of SiO_2, which is typical of cratonic mantle peridotites. The peridotites display variably enriched light rare earth elements(REEs), relatively depleted middle REEs and weakly fractionated heavy REEs, which suggest a melt extraction of over 25% in the spinel stability field. The occurrence of arc-and SSZ-type chromian spinels in the peridotites suggests that melt extraction and metasomatism occurred mostly in a subduction-related setting. This is also supported by the geochemical data of the coexisting boninite-like samples. The peridotites have ^(187)Os/^(188)Os ratios ranging from 0.113–0.122, which is typical of cratonic lithospheric mantle. These ^(187)Os/^(188)Os ratios yield model melt extraction ages(TRD) ranging from 981 Ma to 2054 Ma, which may represent the minimum estimation of the melt extraction age. The Al_2O_3-^(187)Os/^(188)Os-proxy isochron ages of 2.4 Ga–2.7 Ga suggest a mantle melt depletion age between the Late Achaean and Early Paleoproterozoic. Both the peridotites and boninite-like rocks are therefore interpreted as tectonically exhumed continental lithospheric mantle of the North China Craton, which has experienced mantle melt depletion and subduction-related mantle metasomatism during the Neoarchean-Paleoproterozoic.TIAN Wei WANG Shuangyue LIU Fenglin CHU Zhuyin WANG Bin CHEN Mimi Jennifer PRICHARD 2017Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2017,91,6:5
Age and geochemistry of the granitoid from the Lunte area,Northeastern Zambia:Implications for magmatism of the Columbia supercontinent显示文摘The Paleoproterozoic tectonic evolution of the Bangweulu Block has long been controversial.Paleoproterozoic granites consisting of the basement complex of the Bangweulu Block are widely exposed in northeastern Zambia, and they are the critical media for studying the tectonic evolution of the Bangweulu Block. This study systematically investigated the petrography, zircon U-Pb chronology, and petrogeochemistry of the granitoid extensively exposed in the Lunte area, northeastern Zambia. The results show that the granitoid in the area formed during 2051±13-2009±20 Ma as a result of Paleoproterozoic magmatic events.Geochemical data show that the granites in the area mainly include syenogranites and monzogranites of high-K calc-alkaline series and are characterized by high SiO2 content(72.68%‒73.78%)and K_(2)O/Na_(2)O ratio(1.82‒2.29).The presence of garnets, the high aluminum saturation index(A/CNK is 1.13‒1.21),and the 1.27%‒1.95%of corundum molecules jointly indicate that granites in the Lunte area are S-type granites.Rare earth elements in all samples show a rightward inclination and noticeably negative Eu-anomalies(δEu=0.16‒0.40)and are relatively rich in light rare earth elements.Furthermore, the granites are rich in large ion lithophile elements such as Rb,Th,U,and K and are depleted in Ba,Sr,and high field strength elements such as Ta and Nb.In addition, they bear low contents of Cr(6.31×10^(−6)‒10.8×10^(−6)),Ni(2.87×10^(−6)‒4.76×10^(−6)),and Co(2.62×10^(−6)‒3.96×10^(−6)).These data lead to the conclusion that the source rocks are meta-sedimentary rocks.Combining the above results and the study of regional tectonic evolution, the authors suggest that granitoid in the Lunte area were formed in a tectonic environment corresponding to the collision between the Tanzania Craton and the Bangweulu Block. The magmatic activities in this period may be related to the assembly of the Columbia supercontinent.Hong-wei Sun Jun-ping Ren Jie Wang A-lei Gu Xing-yuan Wu Fu-qing He Li-bo Zuo Chipilauka Mukofu Alphet Phaskani Dokowe Ezekiah Chikambwe Zi-jiang Liu Shi Xing 2021China Geology2021,4,4:3
Response to the Lomagundi-Jatuli Event in the southwestern margin of the Yangtze Plate:Evidence from the carbon and oxygen isotopes of the Paleoproterozoic Yongjingshao Formation显示文摘The Lomagundi-Jatuli Event(LJE)refers to the significant positive carbon isotope excursion in seawater constituents that occurred immediately after the increase in atmospheric oxygen content during the Paleoproterozoic(2.22-2.06 Ga).Theδ^(13)C values of 46 dolostone samples collected from the Paleoproterozoic Yongjingshao Formation varied in the range of 0.05‰-4.95‰(V-PDB;maximum:4.95‰)in this study, which may be related to the multicellular eukaryotes in the Liangshan Formation in the Yimen Group. They are much higher than theδ^(13)C values of marine carbonates(-1.16‰on average).Theδ^(13)C values of other formations in the Paleoproterozoic Yimen Group are negative. The notable positive carbon isotope anomalies of the Yongjingshao Formation indicate the response to the LJE at the southwestern margin of the Yangtze Block, which is reported for the first time.Furthermore, they are comparable to theδ^(13)C values of carbonates in the Dashiling Formation of the Hutuo Group in the Wutaishan area in the North China Craton, the Wuzhiling Formation of the Songshan Group in the Xiong'er area,Henan Province, and the Dashiqiao Formation of the Liaohe Group in the Guanmenshan area,Liaoning Province. Therefore,it can be further concluded that the LJE is a global event. This study reveals that LJE occurred in Central Yunnan at 2.15-2.10 Ga,lasting for about 50 Ma.The macro-columnar,bean-shaped,and microfilament fossils and reticular ultramicrofossils of multicellular eukaryotes in this period were discovered in the Liangshan Formation of the Yimen Group. They are the direct cause for the LJE and are also the oldest paleontological fossils ever found. The major events successively occurring in the early stage of the Earth include the Great Oxygenation Event(first occurrence),the global Superiortype banded iron formations(BIFs),the Huronian glaciation, the Great Oxygenation Event(second occurrence),the explosion of multicellular eukaryotes, the positive carbon isotope excursion, and the global anoxic and selenium-rich sedimentary event. The authors think that the North China Craton and the Yangtze Craton were possibly in different tectonic locations of the same continental block during the Proterozoic.Jun-ping Liu Wei Yin Shi-pan Yang Jiang-tai Zhao Wen-tao Zeng Feng Tang Shi-jun He Wei-ke Li 2023China Geology2023,6,1:1
The Colider and Roosevelt olcanic rocks (sw amazonian craton): geochemistry and sm-nd isotope characteristics of a silicic large igneous province显示文摘The volcanic rocks of the Colíder and Roosevelt formations are extensively exposed in the south-central portion of the Amazonian Craton where effusive and pyroclastic rocks have been mapped. Both units, topped by chemical sediments and oceanic facies as rhyolite and andesite lavas, rhyodacite, and porphyritic dacite, with frequent intercalations of pyroclastic and epiclastic deposits.Whole-rock geochemistry for 55 samples of rhyolitic to andesitic composition suggests the involvement of fertile mantle-derived components with E-MORB to OIB compositions. The analyzed rocks display calc-alkaline to shoshonitic affinity consistent with generation related to an active continental margin. The whole-rock Sm-Nd isotope data from selected felsic volcanic rocks of the Colíder and Roosevelt formations yield negative initial eNd values between–3 and–9,indicating the predominantly crustal nature of the parental magmas with early Archean to late Paleoproterozoic(ca.2.5–2.0 Ga)depleted mantle model ages.Bruna Saar de Almeida Mauro César Geraldes Carlos Augusto Sommer Felipe Corrales Antonio Joāo Paes de Barros 2021Acta Geochimica2021,40,6:1
Geological significance of the former Xiong'er Volcanic Belt on the southwestern margin of the North China Craton显示文摘The rock association of low-grade metasedimentary rocks and greenschists located within the Meso- Cenozoic Liupanshan Fault system on the southwestern margin of the North China Craton (NCC)is regarded as part of the Paleoproterozoic Xiong'er Group. These low- grade rocks are separated by normal faults, with the greenschist located in the hanging wails.Zircon LA-ICP- MS U-Pb ages of the greenschists range from 2455 to 423 Ma,suggesting that they are not Paleoproterozoic in age. The protolith ages (206-194 Ma)of the greenschists were determined by LA-ICP-MS U-Pb dating of zircons from two siltstone inteflayers. The petrology and geochemistry of the greenschists reveal that their protolith was continental tholeiitic basalt that formed in an extensional environment such as a continental rift. Thus,it is proposed that the protolith of the greenschists was a mafic volcanic rock of Late Triassic-Early Jurassic age and was metamorphosed during the Jurassic due to tectonism within the Liupanshan tectonic belt. These results show that the greenschists should be reclassified and removed from the Xiong'er Group, and explains why they differ so much from those of typical Xiong'er Group successions in other areas. The formation of the mafic volcanic rocks under conditions of continental rifting differs from that of coeval granitic rocks in the western Qinling Orogen, where the extension occurred during a post-collisional stage in the Late Triassic, which further suggests that the southwestern margin of the NCC became an extensional setting after the Late Triassic.Guanxu CHEN Jinhai LUO Huan XU Jia YOU Yifei LI Zichen CHE 2019Frontiers of Earth Science2019,13,1:1
Precambrian Tectonic Affinity of the Southern Langshan Area, Northeastern Margin of the Alxa Block: Evidence from Zircon U-Pb Dating and Lu-Hf Isotopes显示文摘The Alxa Block is the westernmost part of the North China Craton(NCC), and is regarded as one of the basement components of the NCC. Its geological evolution is of great significance for the understanding of the NCC.However, the Precambrian basement of the Alxa Block is still poorly studied. In this study, we present new in situ LA-ICPMS zircon U-Pb and Lu-Hf isotope data from the Diebusige Metamorphic Complex(DMC) which located in the eastern Alxa Block. Field and petrological studies show that the DMC consists mainly of metamorphic supracrustal rocks and minor metamorphic plutonic rocks and has experienced amphibolite-granulite facies metamorphism. Zircon U-Pb dating results suggested that the amphibolite sample yields a crystallization age of 2636 ± 14 Ma and metamorphic ages of 2517–2454 Ma and 1988–1952 Ma, proving the existence of exposed Archean rocks in the Langshan area and indicating that late Neoarchean to Paleoproterozoic metamorphic events existed in the Alxa Block. Two paragneiss samples show that the magmatic detrital zircons from the DMC yield 207Pb/206Pb ages ranging from 2.48 Ga to 2.10 Ga with two youngest peaks at 2.13 Ga and 2.16 Ga, respectively, and they were also overprinted by metamorphic events at 1.97–1.90 Ga and 1.89–1.79Ga. Compilation of U-Pb ages of magmatic detrital and metamorphic zircons suggested that the main part of the DMC may have been formed at 2.1–2.0 Ga. Zircon Lu-Hf isotope data show that the source materials of the main part of the DMC were originated from the reworking of ancient Archean crust(3.45–2.78 Ga). The Hf isotope characteristics and the tectonothermal event records exhibit different evolution history with the Khondalite Belt and the Yinshan Block and the other basements of the Alxa Block, indicating that the Langshan was likely an independent terrain before the middle Paleoproterozoic and was subjected to the middle to late Paleoproterozoic tectonothermal events with the Khondalite Belt as a whole.NIU Pengfei QU Junfeng ZHANG Jin ZHANG Beihang ZHAO Heng 2022Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2022,96,5:1
Paleoproterozoic Granitoids on Liaodong Peninsula, North China Craton显示文摘Paleoproterozoic granitoids are an important constituent of the Jiao-Liao-Ji Belt(JLJB). The spatial-temporal distribution and types of Paleoproterozoic granitoids are closely related to the evolution of the JLJB. In this paper, we review the field occurrence, petrography, geochronology, and geochemistry of Paleoproterozoic granitoids on Liaodong Peninsula, northeast China. The Paleoproterozoic granitoids can be divided into pre-tectonic(~2.15 Ga;peak age=2.18 Ga) and post-tectonic(~1.85 Ga) granitoids. The pre-tectonic granitoids are magnetite and hornblende-biotite monzogranites and granodiorites. Pre-tectonic monzogranites are widespread in the JLJB and have A2-type affinities. In contrast, pretectonic granodiorites are only present in the Simenzi area and have adakitic affinities. The post-tectonic granitoids consist of porphyritic monzogranite, syenite, diorite, granodiorite, quartz monzonite, monzogranite, and granitic pegmatite, which are adakitic rocks and I-, S-, and A2-type granitoids. The assemblage of pre-tectonic A2-type granitoids and adakitic rocks indicates the initial tectonic setting of the JLJB was a continental back-arc basin. The assemblage of post-tectonic adakitic rocks and I-, S-, and A2-type granitoids indicates a post-collisional setting. The 2.20-2.15 Ga A2-type granitoids and adakitic rocks were associated with the initial stage of back-arc extension, and the peak of back-arc extension is inferred from the subsequent(2.15-2.10 Ga) mafic intrusive activity. The ~1.90 Ga adakitic rocks mark the beginning of the postcollisional stage, which was followed by the intrusion of low-temperature S-and I-type granitoids. High-to low-pressure granitoids(S-type) were generated during the peak of post-collisional lithospheric delamination and asthenospheric upwelling. The emplacement of later granitic pegmatites occurred during the waning of the orogeny.ZHU Kai LIU Zhenghong XU Zhongyuan LIU Jiexun WANG Xing’an 2019Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2019,93,5:1
Monazite recorded Paleoproterozoic granulite-facies metamorphism and Triassic fluid modification of the Weihai pelitic granulite,Sulu orogen显示文摘Monazite is an important accessory mineral in the pelitic granulites(Weihai area,Sulu orogen),and is also a powerful monitor for understanding the metamorphic evolution of the granulites. The pelitic granulites incongruously occur as lenses in granitic gneisses. The lithologies of the lenses gradually change from core to margin:The undeformed coarse-grained granulite, the foliated fine-grained granulite, the garnet-biotite-gneiss,and the migmatized granulite. The lens cores mostly preserve a peak granulite-facies metamorphic mineral assemblage of garnet+plagioclase(antiperthite)+quartz+sillimanite+biotite with accessory minerals of rutile, zircon, and monazite. The lens margins display a fluid-induced retrogression. In order to decipher the metamorphic processes of the pelitic granulites,a combined study of BSE imaging,U-Pb dating, and trace element composition for the monazites from the metapelitic lens were conducted.Monazites from the undeformed coarse-grained granulite only record a Paleoproterozoic age(1832±7 Ma,n=40).Monazites from the other lithologies yield the inherited Paleoproterozoic age and Triassic overgrowth age.For example, monazites from the migmatite yield intercept ages of 1818±10 and 211±22 Ma(n=56)with Triassic concordant age of 223.8±2.9 Ma.The Paleoproterozoic monazites are characterized by remarkable depletion in HREE and Y with obviously negative Eu anomalies, indicating their formation equilibrated with garnet and feldspar under granulite-facies conditions.During Triassic fluid modification, the monazite bright rims assimilated Th and Si but released U,HREE,Y,and P.This process resulted in that the Triassic overgrowth monazites have higher HREE and Y contents, and lower Th and U contents with relatively low Th/U ratios. Thus, the monazites in the pelitic granulites recorded a Paleoproterozoic metamorphic event and Triassic fluid modification. The Weihai pelitic granulites might have a tectonic affinity with the North China Craton. Therefore, the Paleoproterozoic pelitic granulites were mechanically drawn into the orogen during the Triassic continental collision, and subsequently were remoulded by the fluids during its exhumation.Zhiwu XIONG Haijin XU Pan WANG Junfeng ZHANG 2021Science China Earth Sciences2021,64,6:0
Neoarchean and Rhyacian TTG-Sanukitoid suites in the southern S?o Francisco Paleocontinent,Brazil:Evidence for diachronous change towards modern tectonics显示文摘The southern portion of the Sao Francisco Palaeocontinent in Brazil is denoted by Archean nuclei and Paleoproterozoic magmatic arcs that were amalgamated during Siderian to Orosirian orogenic processes(ca.2.4-2.1 Ga).New isotopic U-Pb in zircon and Sm-Nd whole rock combined with major and trace element composition analyses constrain the crystallization history of the Neoarchean Piedade block(at ca.2.6 Ga)and the Paleoproterozoic Mantiqueira Complex(ca.2.1-1.9 Ga).These therefore display quite different magmatic histories prior to their amalgamation at ca.2.05 Ga.Sm-Nd and Rb-Sr isotopes imply a mixed mantle-crustal origin for the samples in both units.A complete Palaeoproterozoic orogenic cycle, from subduction to collision and collapse,is recorded in the Piedade Block and the Mantiqueira Complex.Rhyacian to Orosirian subduction processes(ca.2.2-2.1 Ga)led to the generation of coeval(ca.2.16 Ga)TTG suites and sanukitoids, followed by late(2.10-2.02 Ga)high-K granitoids that mark the collisional stage. The collisional accretion of the Mantiqueira Complex against the Piedade Block at 2.08-2.04 Ga is also recorded by granulite facies metamorphism in the latter terrane, along the Ponte Nova suture zone. The collisional stage was closely followed by the emplacement of within-plate tholeiites at ca.2.04 Ga and by alkaline rocks(syenites and enriched basic rocks)at ca.1.98 Ga,marking the transition to an extensional tectonic regime. The discovery of two episodes of TTG and sanukitoid magmatism, one during the Neoarchean in the Piedade Complex and another during the Rhyacian in the Mantiqueira Complex, indicates that the onset of subduction-related melting of metasomatized mantle was not restricted to Neoarchean times,as generally believed, but persisted much later into the Paleoproterozoic.Henrique Bruno Vitalino Elizeu Monica Heilbron Claudio de Morisson Valeriano Rob Strachan Mike Fowler Samuel Bersan Hugo Moreira Ivo Dussin Luiz Guilherme do Eirado Silva Miguel Tupinamba Julio Almeida Carla Neto Craig Storey 2020Geoscience Frontiers2020,11,5:0
Chronological constraints on the Paleoproterozoic Francevillian Group in Gabon显示文摘The Francevillian Group in Gabonese Republic was recently established as a typical sedimentary sequence for the Paleoproterozoic. However, its age is rather poorly constrained, mainly based on Rb-Sr and Nd-Sm datings. This study reports new zircon data obtained from Chaillu massif and N'goutou complex, which constrain the protolith age of the basement orthogneisses and the igneous age of an intrusive granite, respectively. Most zircons from the orthogneisses are blue and exhibit oscillatory zoning in cathode-luminescence images.Zircons with lower common lead abundances tend to be distributed close to the concordia curve. Two age clusters around 2860 Ma and 2910 Ma are found in zircons plotted on the concordia curve.Based on the Th/U ratios of zircons, these ages correspond to the protolith ages of the orthogneisses, and the zircons are not metamorphic in origin.Syenites and granites were collected from the N'goutou complex that intrudes into the FA and FB units of the Francevillian Group. The granitoids exhibit chemical composition of A-type granite affinity.Half of zircons separated from the granite are non-luminous,and the remaining half exhibit obscure internal textures under cathode-luminescence observation. All zircon grains contain significant amounts of common lead;the lead isotopic variability is probably attributed to the mixing of two components in the zircons. The zircon radiogenic ^(207)Pb/^(206)Pb ratio is 0.13707 ± 0.0010.corresponding to a ^(207)Pb/^(206)Pb age of 2191 ± 13 Ma.This constrains the minimum depositional age of the FA and FB units.Furthermore, the FB unit consists of manganese-rich carbonate rocks and organic carbon-rich black shales with macroscopic fossils.Based on our age constraints, these organisms appeared in the study area just after the last Paleoproterozoic Snowball Earth event,in concert with global scale oxidation event encompassing the Snowball Earth.Yusuke Sawaki Mathieu Moussavou Tomohiko Sato Kazue Suzuki Cédric Ligna Hisashi Asanuma Shuhei Sakata Hideyuki Obayashi Takafumi Hirata Amboise Edou-Minkoinko 2017Geoscience Frontiers2017,8,2:0
Chemical indexes of Paleoproterozoic sedimentary rocks from Liaohe Group,North China Craton:Implications for paleoclimate and provenance显示文摘Paleoproterozoic supracrustal materials have been widely identified in North China Craton, such as the Liaohe-,Hutuo-and Lyuliang groups. The Liaohe Group in the eastern part of the North China Craton is dominated by deformed and metamorphosed sedimentary and volcanic successions.Compared with that of the coeval volcanic rocks, geochemistry of the sedimentary rocks from the Liaohe Group has rarely been studied in detail, which can possibly provide information on the paleoclimate and provenance. The authors analyzed the whole-rock and detrital zircon geochemistry of sedimentary rocks from the Liaohe Group against a uniform process and proposed their different ways of paleoweathering of the lower and upper formations. That is to say, although the lower and upper formations within the Liaohe Group might be derived from the similar source composition in a tectonically active setting, the paleoclimate that they experienced was not exactly the same. The predominant derivations are the Paleoproterozoic granitoids and basalts within the Liaohe Group, with minor input of Archean continental crust. This study highlights the contributions of the Paleoproterozoic mafic sources, which has been generally overlooked in the previous researches.ZHANG Wei LI Zhuang YANG Fan PEI Fuping LIU Jin WANG Junhui WANG Zhiwei 2021Global Geology2021,24,2:0
Petrogenesis of Paleoproterozoic diorite porphyries inLuojiazhuang, western Shandong: constraints fromLA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb geochronology and geochemistry显示文摘Based on the study of LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb geochronology and whole-rock geochemistry for theLuojiazhuang diorite porphyries in Menying , western Shandong , the analyzed zircons exhibit oscillatory zoning in the cathodoluminescence images and have high Th/U ratios (0. 15-1.53) , indicating a magmatic origin. In addition, most of the zircons have narrow metamorphic edges, suggesting that late metamorphic eventsmay exist. The youngest group of magmatic zircon 207Pb/206Pb ages rangng from 2 384 Ma to 2 234 Ma, yieldinga weighted mean age of 2 353 ± 14 Ma, which represents the forming age of the diorite porphyries, as theEarly Paleoproterozoic. Geochemically , the samples are characterized by low Si〇2(54. 54% and 55. 47% ),high MgO (5.22% and 5.49% ) and Mg# values (58 and 59) . Moreover , they show enrichment of light rareearth elements and large ion lithophile elements ( Rb , Ba and K) , depletion of heavy rare earth elements andhigh field strength elements (Nb, Ta , Zr and Hf) , positive anomaly of Pb , and negative anomaly of Ti. Thefact implies that the Luojiazhuang diorite porphyries might derive from partial melting of mantle and mixed with an amount of continental crust material. In summary , they may tectonic setting that stretching along the east-"west direction at the North China Craton in the Early Paleoproterozoic.YANG Haotian SHI Jiangpeng HUO tengfei YANG Donghong 2016Global Geology2016,19,2:0

The Orosirian(1800–2050 Ma)plate tectonic episode:Key for reconstructing the Proterozoic tectonic record显示文摘Eight lines of evidence indicate that the Orosirian Period in mid-Paleoproterozoic time was characterized by plate tectonics:ophiolites, low T/P metamorphism including eclogites, passive margin formation, tall mountains, paleomagnetic constraints, ore deposits, abundant S-type granites, and seismic images of paleo-subduction zones. This plate tectonic episode occurred about 1 billion years earlier than the present plate tectonic episode began in Neoproterozoic time. The two plate tectonic episodes bracket the‘Boring Billion’,which may have been a protracted single lid tectonic episode that began when the supercontinent Nuna or Columbia formed.Recognition of multiple lines of evidence for Orosirian plate tectonics demonstrates that Earth’s tectonic style can be reconstructed with some confidence back to at least Early Paleoproterozoic time, and thus the absence of compelling evidence for Mesoproterozoic plate tectonics is not obvious due to poor preservation.A tectono-magmatic lull2.3 Ga suggests an earlier episode of single lid tectonics.Evidence for two episodes of plate tectonics and two episodes of single lid tectonics indicates that Earth switched between single lid and plate tectonics multiple times during the last 2.4 Ga.Robert J.Stern 2023Geoscience Frontiers2023,14,3:0
Diversification of the Eukaryotic Life During the Late Paleoproterozoic(~1700 Myr ago)显示文摘Archaea, bacteria and eukaryotes constitute the cellular life on our planet, but all complex life on Earth are eukaryotes with nuclei inside cells. Therefore, the origin and early evolution of eukaryotes is one of the most puzzling evolutionary events in the history of life on Earth。2018Bulletin of the Chinese Academy of Sciences2018,32,4:0
