| 1 | Recent glacial retreat in High Asia in China and its impact on water resource in Northwest China显示文摘Under the impact of climatic warming, the glaciers in the High Asia in China have been retreating continuously with negative glacial mass balance in recent several decades. The retreat became more intensive in the past 10 years. The spatial pattern of the glacial retreat in the High Asia in China is that the smallest magnitude of retreat is in the inland of the Tibetan Plateau, the magnitude increases from the inland to the margin of the Tibetan Plateau, and the largest magnitude at the margin of the Tibetan Plateau. The glacial retreat in the High Asia in China has an important impact on the water resource of the arid regions in Northwest China. This study shows that the glacial retreat in the 1990s has caused an increase of 5.5% in river runoff in Northwest China. | 3 | Control of atmospheric CO_2 concentrations by 2050: A calculation on the emission rights of different countries显示文摘This paper is to provide quantitative data on some critical issues in anticipation of the forthcoming international negotiations in Denmark on the control of atmospheric CO2 concentrations. Instead of letting only a small number of countries dominate a few controversial dialogues about emissions reductions, a comprehensive global system must be established based on emissions allowances for different countries, to realize the long-term goal of controlling global atmospheric CO2 concentrations. That a system rooted in 'cumulative emissions per capita,' the best conception of the 'common but differentiated responsibilities' principle affirmed by the Kyoto Protocol according to fundamental standards of fairness and justice, was demonstrated. Based on calculations of various countries' cumulative emissions per capita, estimates of their cumulative emissions from 1900 to 2005, and their annual emissions allowances into the future (2006―2050), a 470 ppmv atmospheric CO2 concentration target was set. According to the following four objective indicators―total emissions allowance from 1900 to 2050, actual emissions from 1900 to 2005, emissions levels in 2005, and the average growth rate of emissions from 1996 to 2005―all countries and regions whose population was more than 300000 in 2005 were divided into four main groups: countries with emissions deficits, countries and regions needing to reduce their gross emissions, countries and regions needing to reduce their emissions growth rates, and countries that can maintain the current emissions growth rates. Based on this proposal, most G8 countries by 2005 had already expended their 2050 emissions allowances. The accu-mulated financial value based on emissions has reached more than 5.5 trillion US dollars (20 dollars per ton of CO2). Even if these countries could achieve their ambitious emissions reduction targets in the future, their per capita emissions from 2006 to 2050 would still be much higher than those of developing countries; under such circumstance, these future emissions would create more than 6.3 trillion US dollars in emissions deficits. Because of their low cumulative emissions per capita, most developing countries fall within one of the latter two groups, which means that they have leeway for making emissions decisions in the future. Although China accounts for more than 30% of the total global emissions allowance from 2006 to 2050, its total emissions can be controlled within that allow-ance by no other way than reducing its future emissions growth rates. | 4 | 谣言实现的社会机制及对信息的治理显示文摘Rumors are a type of false information, a consequence of an asymmetrical informational structure. This paper focuses on the social mechanisms of rumor fulfilling. Rumors with important contents related to people’s personal interests win acceptance through changing people’s expected payoffs, misleading people to the belief that acceptance of the rumor would beneficially outperform rejection of it. Nevertheless, it is risky to believe rumors; therefore, people make their decision whether to believe a rumor or not by referring to other people’s choices. An analysis was performed first within a game model that incorporated the variables of an individual’s expectancy and other people’s impact to predict whether the individual would accept or reject a rumor. Another analysis followed to further examine the functions of some dynamic mechanisms in rumor fulfilling when group pressure and network effects were introduced. | 6 | Operative link on gastritis assessment stage is an appropriate predictor of early gastric cancer显示文摘AIM: To assess the predictive value of Operative Link on Gastritis Assessment(OLGA) and Operative Link on Gastric Intestinal Metaplasia Assessment(OLGIM) stages in gastric cancer.METHODS: A prospective study was conducted with 71 patients with early gastric cancer(EGC) and 156 patients with non-EGC. All patients underwent endoscopic examination and systematic biopsy. Outcome measures were assessed and compared, including the Japanese endoscopic gastric atrophy(EGA) classification method and the modified OLGA method as well as the modified OLGIM method. Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) status was determined for all study participants. Stepwise logistic regression modeling was performed to analyze correlations between EGC and the EGA, OLGA and OLGIM methods.RESULTS: For patients with EGC and patients with non-EGC, the proportions of moderate-to-severe EGA cases were 64.8% and 44.9%, respectively(P = 0.005), the proportions of OLGA stages Ⅲ-Ⅳ cases were 52.1% and 22.4%, respectively(P < 0.001), and the proportions of OLGIM stages Ⅲ-Ⅳ cases were42.3% and 19.9%, respectively(P < 0.001). OLGA stage and OLGIM stage were significantly related to EGA classification; specifically, logistic regression modeling showed significant correlations between EGC and moderate-to-severe EGA(OR = 1.95, 95% CI: 1.06-3.58, P = 0.031) and OLGA stages Ⅲ-Ⅳ(OR = 3.14, 95%CI: 1.71-5.81, P < 0.001), but no significant correlation between EGC and OLGIM stages Ⅲ-Ⅳ(P = 0.781). H. pylori infection rate was significantly higher in patients with moderate-to-severe EGA(75.0% vs 54.1%, P = 0.001) or OLGA/OLGIM stages Ⅲ-Ⅳ(OLGA: 83.6% vs 55.8%, P < 0.001; OLGIM: 83.6% vs 57.8%, P < 0.001).CONCLUSION: OLGA classification is optimal for EGC screening. | 11 | Computational uncertainty principle in nonlinear ordinary differential equations (I)——Numerical results显示文摘In a majority of cases of long-time numerical integration for initial-value problems, roundoff error has received little attention. Using twenty-nine numerical methods, the influence of round-off error on numerical solutions is generally studied through a large number of numerical experiments. Here we find that there exists a strong dependence on machine precision (which is a new kind of dependence different from the sensitive dependence on initial conditions), maximally effective computation time (MECT) and optimal stepsize (OS) in solving nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) in finite machine precision. And an optimal searching method for evaluating MECT and OS under finite machine precision is presented. The relationships between MECT, OS, the order of numerical method and machine precision are found. Numerical results show that round-off error plays a significant role in the above phenomena. | 12 | Tidal current-induced formation——storm-induced change——tidal current-induced recovery——Interpretation of depositional dynamics of formation and evolution of radial sand ridges on the Yellow Sea seafloor显示文摘The results of simulated tidal current field, wave field and storm-induced current field are employed to interpret the depositional dynamic mechanism of formation and evolution of the radial sand ridges on the Yellow Sea seafloor. The anticlockwise rotary tidal wave to the south of Shandong Peninsula meets the following progressive tidal wave from the South Yellow Sea, forming a radial current field outside Jianggang. This current field provides a necessary dynamic condition for the formation and existence of the radial sand ridges on the Yellow Sea seafloor. The results of simulated 'old current field (holocene)' show that there existed a convergent-divergent tidal zone just outside the palaeo-Yangtze River estuary where a palaeo-underwater accumulation was developed. The calculated results from wave models indicate that the wave impact on the topography, under the condition of high water level and strong winds, is significant. | 13 | 阿房宫前殿遗址的考古勘探与发掘显示文摘The Epanggong Palace site of Qin period lies to the south of the Weihe River and to the west of the old Zaohe River course that extends 13 km west of Xi'an City. It stands opposite to the Qin capital Xianyang across the river. From October 2002 to December 2004, the Epanggong Palace Archaeological Team made a prospection on the anterior hall site,covering :350, 000 sq m, and revealed an area of 3, 000 sq m by trial and extensive excavations. The results include a rough understanding of the limits of the hall and the layout of its auxiliary buildings. It can be confirmed that the rammed earth foundations of the hall represents just the anterior hall of that of the Qin Epanggong Palace. What merits special notice is that there are no fire traces on the site of the anterior hall of the Qin Epanggong Palace, which forms a clear contrast to the archaeologically excavated Nos. 1-3 palaces in the Qin capital Xianyang that were destroyed by a great fire. Thus the excavations prove that the historically handed-down belief taking the Qin Epanggong Palace to have been fired by Xiang Yu is actually incorrect. | 14 | 德国历史学派与19世纪经济学方法论之争的启示显示文摘In the mid-19th century, out of their dissatisfaction with the neglect of the economic theories about other countries’ experiences in the British classic economics, the economists in the German Historical School worked hard to construct an economic theory that was congruent to the developmental stage in their own country’s culture and history. Their deeply-cherished concern about the reality in a transitional era when Germany was approaching modernization drove them to propose that the living condition of the working class be improved by the power of the state. In the late 80’s of the same century, the Methodenstreit of German Historical School versus the Austrian School broke out, after which the mainstream economics was well on its way in terms of theoretical refinement and scrutiny, whereas the influence from the Historical School gradually subsided. Even so, the lessons from the Historical School are still enlightening to research in contemporary social sciences. It was thus the first international treaty to endow the 2 ℃ global temperature target with legal effect.The qualitative expression of the ultimate objective in Article 2 of the United Nations Framework Conventionon Climate Change (UNFCCC) has now evolved into the numerical temperature rise target in Article 2 of theParis Agreement. Starting with the Second Assessment Report (SAR) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Cli-mate Change (IPCC), an important task for subsequent assessments has been to provide scientific informa-tion to help determine the quantified long-term goal for UNFCCC negotiation. However, due to involvementin the value judgment within the scope of non-scientific assessment, the IPCC has never scientifically af-firmed the unacceptable extent of global temperature rise. The setting of the long-term goal for addressingclimate change has been a long process, and the 2 ℃ global temperature target is the political consensuson the basis of scientific assessment. | 17 | LncRNA MEG3 acts a biomarker and regulates cell functions by targeting ADAR1 in colorectal cancer显示文摘BACKGROUND Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most prevalent malignancy and has the fourth highest global cancer mortality rate. Early diagnosis and prompt medical attention can improve quality of life and the prognosis of CRC patients. Accumulating evidence reveals that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) function as oncogenes or anti-oncogenes, as well as biomarkers in various cancers. AIM To investigate the levels and molecular mechanism of the lncRNA maternally expressed gene 3 (MEG3) in CRC. METHODS The levels of lncRNA MEG3 in CRC tissue, serum and cell line samples were explored via qRT-PCR. The relationship between MEG3 levels and clinicopathological features in CRC was investigated. The diagnostic and prognostic values of serum MEG3 levels were analyzed with ROC curves and KaplanMeier survival curves, respectively. RESULTS Significant decreased levels of MEG3 existed in CRC tissue, cell lines and serum. CRC patients with down-regulated serum MEG3 levels had larger tumor sizes, and advanced clinical stages. The sensitivity and specificity of serum MEG3 levels in CRC detection was 0.667 and 0.875, respectively. Tumor size, T stages, and serum MEG3 levels are indie factors that produce an effect on CRC patients' prognosis. KaplanMeier survival curves suggested that CRC patients with high levels of MEG3 had a remarkably better overall survival rate. Given the asynchronous demands from multiple clients, continuously changing of the buffered contents, and the continuous video display requirement, how to collaborate with potential partners to get expected data for future content delivery are very important and challenging. In this paper, we develop a novel scheduling algorithm based on deadline- aware network coding (DNC) to fully exploit the network resource for efficient VoD service. DNC generalizes the existing net- work coding (NC) paradigm, an elegant solution for ubiquitous data distribution. Yet, with deadline awareness, DNC improves the network throughput and meanwhile avoid missing the play deadline in high probability, which is a major deficiency of the con- ventional NC. | 20 | Risk factors to predict severe postoperative pancreatic fistula following gastrectomy for gastric cancer显示文摘AIM:To allow the identification of high-risk postoperative pancreatic fistula(POPF)patients with special reference to the International Study Group on Pancreatic Fistula(ISGPF)classification.METHODS:Between 1997 and 2010,1341 consecutive patients underwent gastrectomy for gastric cancer at the Department of Digestive Surgery,Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine,Japan.Based on the preoperative diagnosis,total or distal gastrectomy and sufficient lymphadenectomy was performed,mainly according to the Japanese guidelines for the treatment of gastric cancer.Of these,35 patients(2.6%)were diagnosed with Grade B or C POPF according to the ISGPF classification and were treated intensively.The hospital records of these patients were reviewed retrospectively.RESULTS:Of 35 patients with severe POPF,17(49%)and 18(51%)patients were classified as Grade B and C POPF,respectively.From several clinical factors,the severity of POPF according to the ISGPF classification was significantly correlated with the duration of intensive POPF treatments(P=0.035).Regarding the clinical factors to distinguish extremely severe POPF,older patients(P=0.035,65 years≤vs<65 years old)and those with lower lymphocyte counts at the diagnosis of POPF(P=0.007,<1400/mm3vs 1400/mm3≤)were significantly correlated with Grade C POPF,and a low lymphocyte count was an independent risk factor by multivariate analysis[P=0.045,OR=10.45(95%CI:1.050-104.1)].CONCLUSION:Caution and intensive care are required for older POPF patients and those with lower lymphocyte counts at the diagnosis of POPF. | Shuhei Komatsu Daisuke Ichikawa Kingo Kashimoto Takeshi Kubota Kazuma Okamoto Hirotaka Konishi Atsushi Shiozaki Hitoshi Fujiwara Eigo Otsuji | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,46: | 13 |
