Three advantages of using traditional Chinese medicine to prevent and treat tumor显示文摘Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM), an important component of complementary and alternative medicine, has evolved over thousands of years with its own unique system of theories, diagnostics and therapies. TCM has been increasingly used in the last decades and become well known for its significant role in preventing and treating cancer. We believe that TCM possesses advantages over Western medicine in specific aspects at a certain stage of cancer treatment. Here we summarize the advantages of TCM from three aspects: preventing tumorigenesis; attenuating toxicity and enhancing the treatment effect; and reducing tumor recurrence and metastasis.Chang-quan Ling Xiao-qiang Yue Chen Ling 2014Journal of Integrative Medicine2014,12,4:83
Network Pharmacology-based Approaches Capture Essence of Chinese Herbal Medicines显示文摘Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM), a crucial component of the current medical system, has been extensively used in clinical practice due to its valuable therapeutic efficacy, and its potentials as an important source of new pharmacophores. TCM is characterized by holistic theory, which emphasizes maintaining the balance of the patient's whole body using herbal formulae(fangji in Chinese) composed of mixtures of herbs with multiple bioactive ingredients. Because of the complex nature of these formulae, it is necessary to develop systematic methods to identify their bioactive ingredients and to clarify their mechanisms of action. With the rapid progress in bioinformatics, systems biology, and polypharmacology, 'network pharmacology', which shifts the 'one target, one drug' paradigm to the 'network target, multi-component' strategy, has attracted the attention because it can not only reveal the underlying complex interactions between a herbal formula and cellular proteins but detect the influence of their interactions on the function and behavior of the system. Growing evidence shows that the network pharmacology strategy can be a powerful approach to modern research on TCM. The present paper focuses on the basis of network pharmacology and the recent progress in its methodology, illustrates its utility in screening bioactive ingredients and elucidating the mechanisms of action of TCM herbal formulae, analyzes its limitations and problems, and discusses its development direction and application prospects.Yan-qiong Zhang Xia Mao Qiu-yan Guo Na Lin Shao Li 2016Chinese Herbal Medicines2016,8,2:87
A New Concept on Quality Marker for Quality Assessment and Process Control of Chinese Medicines显示文摘Chinese medicine(CM) is the most typical conventional therapy compared with any other traditional or alternative medicine systems. The active components of CMs are either primary or secondary metabolites generated by metabolic and biosynthetic enzymes in plants, protecting the plants from environmental stress. The characteristics of these metabolites are diverse, complicated and unique. In this paper, current approaches for quality assessment were extensively reviewed, a new concept of quality marker(Q-marker) was then proposed for CM quality assessment. Additionally, definition of the Q-marker, as well as the relevant methods, were discussed, on the basis of the biosynthetic pathways of secondary metabolites and source of biological active components. Study design of Q-marker is complex system for quality assessment and production process control of CM products with transitivity and traceability. Therefore, the system with characteristics of transmission and traceability is expected to be established for regulation of quality. Upon the concept which the transitivity and traceability in the quality assessment and production process control covered the entire process, such as raw materials, decoction slices, processing, extraction and production can be further enhanced. The transitivity and traceability will inevitably require close attention to 'who, what, where, when, and why' details at each stage of Q-markers of CM production form raw materials to patent product. The establishing quality standards are enablers of many and various transitivity and traceability solutions, not a solution in them. It means that the transitivity and traceability system is readily link between products and across borders in quality. According to the thinking mode and methods of investigation on quality assessment of CM product, we focus on the entire process, in terms of safety and effectiveness and quality control. The standard preparation of CM or CM decoction is not only the basis for study of Q-marker, but also the basis for transmission and traceability of the quality of CM product.Chang-xiao Liu Yi-yu Cheng De-an Guo Tie-jun Zhang Ya-zhuo Li Wen-bin Hou Lu-qi Huang Hai-yu Xu 2017Chinese Herbal Medicines2017,9,1:84
Epidemiology of ovarian cancer:a review显示文摘Ovarian cancer(OC) is the seventh most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in the world and the tenth most common in China. Epithelial OC is the most predominant pathologic subtype, with five major histotypes that differ in origination, pathogenesis, molecular alterations, risk factors, and prognosis. Genetic susceptibility is manifested by rare inherited mutations with high to moderate penetrance. Genome-wide association studies have additionally identified 29 common susceptibility alleles for OC, including 14 subtype-specific alleles. Several reproductive and hormonal factors may lower risk, including parity, oral contraceptive use, and lactation, while others such as older age at menopause and hormone replacement therapy confer increased risks. These associations differ by histotype, especially for mucinous OC, likely reflecting differences in etiology. Endometrioid and clear cell OC share a similar, unique pattern of associations with increased risks among women with endometriosis and decreased risks associated with tubal ligation. OC risks associated with other gynecological conditions and procedures, such as hysterectomy, pelvic inflammatory disease, and polycystic ovarian syndrome, are less clear. Other possible risk factors include environmental and lifestyle factors such as asbestos and talc powder exposures, and cigarette smoking. The epidemiology provides clues on etiology, primary prevention, early detection, and possibly even therapeutic strategies.Brett M.Reid Jennifer B.Permuth Thomas A.Sellers 2017Cancer Biology & Medicine2017,14,1:108
Relationship between different surgical methods, hemorrhage position, hemorrhage volume, surgical timing, and treatment outcome of hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage显示文摘BACKGROUND:The present study aimed to explore the relationship between surgical methods, hemorrhage position, hemorrhage volume, surgical timing and treatment outcome of hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage(HICH).METHODS:A total of 1 310 patients, who had been admitted to six hospitals from January 2004 to January 2008,were divided into six groups according to different surgical methods:craniotomy through bone fl ap(group A),craniotomy through a small bone window(group B),stereotactic drilling drainage(group C1 and group C2),neuron-endoscopy operation(group D) and external ventricular drainage(group E) in consideration of hemorrhage position, hemorrhage volume and clinical practice. A retrospective analysis was made of surgical timing and curative effect of the surgical methods.RESULTS:The effectiveness rate of the methods was 74.12% for 1 310 patients after onemonth follow-up. In this series, the disability rate was 44.82% 3–6 months after the operation. Among the 1 310 patients,241(18.40%) patients died after the operation. If hematoma volume was >80 mL and the operation was performed within 3 hours, the mortality rate of group A was signifi cantly lower than that of groups B,C,D,and E(P<0.05). If hematoma volume was 50–80 mL and the operation was performed within 6–12 hours, the mortality rate of groups B and D was lower than that of groups A,C and E(P<0.05). If hematoma volume was 20–50 mL and the operation was performed within 6–24 hours, the mortality rate of group C was lower than that of groups A,B and D(P<0.05).CONCLUSIONS:Craniotomy through a bone f lap is suitable for patients with a large hematoma and hernia of the brain. Stereotactic drilling drainage is suggested for patients with hematoma volume less than 80 mL. The curative effect of HICH individualized treatment would be improved via the suitable selection of operation time and surgical method according to the position and volume of hemorrhage.Feng-ling Chi Tie-cheng Lang Shu-jie Sun Xue-jie Tang Shu-yuan Xu Hong-bo Zheng Hui-song Zhao 2014World Journal of Emergency Medicine2014,5,3:114

Network Pharmacology in Research of Chinese Medicine Formula: Methodology, Application and Prospective显示文摘Chinese medicine(CM) is usually prescribed as CM formula to treat disease. The lack of effective research approach makes it difficult to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of CM formula owing to its complicated chemical compounds. Network pharmacology is increasingly applied in CM formula research in recent years, which is identified suitable for the study of CM formula. In this review, we summarized the methodology of network pharmacology, including network construction, network analysis and network verification. The aim of constructing a network is to achieve the interaction between the bioactive compounds and targets and the interaction between various targets, and then find out and validate the key nodes via network analysis and network verification. Besides, we reviewed the application in CM formula research, mainly including targets discovery, bioactive compounds screening, toxicity evaluation, mechanism research and quality control research. Finally, we proposed prospective in the future and limitations of network pharmacology, expecting to provide new strategy and thinking on study for CM formula.LUO Ting-ting LU Yuan YAN Shi-kai XIAO Xue RONG Xiang-lu GUO Jiao 2020Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine2020,26,1:186
Single-cell RNA-seq data analysis on the receptor ACE2 expression reveals the potential risk of different human organs vulnerable to 2019-nCoV infection显示文摘It has been known that, the novel coronavirus,2019-nCoV,which is considered similar to SARS-CoV,invades human cells via the receptor angiotensin converting enzyme II(ACE2).Moreover,lung cells that have ACE2 expression may be the main target cells during 2019-nCoV infection. However, some patients also exhibit non-respiratory symptoms, such as kidney failure, implying that 2019-nCoV could also invade other organs. To construct a risk map of different human organs,we analyzed the single-cell RNA sequencing(scRNA-seq)datasets derived from major human physiological systems, including the respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, and urinary systems.Through scRNA-seq data analyses,we identified the organs at risk, such as lung, heart, esophagus, kidney, bladder, and ileum, and located specific cell types(i.e.,type II alveolar cells(AT2),myocardial cells, proximal tubule cells of the kidney, ileum and esophagus epithelial cells, and bladder urothelial cells),which are vulnerable to 2019-nCoV infection.Based on the findings,we constructed a risk map indicating the vulnerability of different organs to 2019-nCoV infection. This study may provide potential clues for further investigation of the pathogenesis and route of 2019-nCoV infection.Xin Zou Ke Chen Jiawei Zou Peiyi Han Jie Hao Zeguang Han 2020Frontiers of Medicine2020,14,2:193
Progress on the pharmacological research of puerarin: a review显示文摘Contemporary pharmacological research has demonstrated that puerarin, the most important phytoestrogen extracted from Pueraria lobata(Willd.) 12Epidemiology,etiology,and prevention of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma in China显示文摘Esophageal cancer is one of the most fatal diseases worldwide mainly because of its rapid progression and poor prognosis.Although the incidence of esophageal adenocarcinoma has markedly risen in North America and Europe in the past several decades, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma is still the predominant subtype of esophageal cancer, especially in China. It accounts for more than 90% of all esophageal squamous cell carcinoma cases in China. Geographical differentiation is one of the most distinctive characteristics of esophageal cancer. The progression, risk factors, and prognosis of these two subtypes of esophageal cancer differ. This study reviews the epidemiology, etiology, and prevention of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma in China, thereby providing systematic references for policy-makers who will decide on issues of esophageal cancer prevention and control. He Liang Jin-Hu Fan You-Lin Qiao 2017Cancer Biology & Medicine2017,14,1:69

HOTAIR:an oncogenic long non-coding RNA in different cancers显示文摘Long non-coding RNAs(lncRNAs) refer to a group of RNAs that are usually more than 200 nucleotides and are not involved in protein generation. Instead, lncRNAs are involved in different regulatory processes, such as regulation of gene expression. Different lncRNAs exist throughout the genome. Lnc RNAs are also known for their roles in different human diseases such as cancer. HOTAIR is an lnc RNA that plays a role as an oncogenic molecule in different cancer cells, such as breast, gastric, colorectal, and cervical cancer cells. Therefore, HOTAIR expression level is a potential biomarker for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in several cancers. This RNA takes part in epigenetic regulation of genes and plays an important role in different cellular pathways by interacting with Polycomb Repressive Complex 2(PRC2). In this review, we describe the molecular function and regulation of HOTAIR and its role in different types of cancers.Mohammadreza Hajjari Abbas Salavaty 2015Cancer Biology & Medicine2015,12,1:53
