Grinding temperature and energy ratio coefficient in MQL grinding of high-temperature nickel-base alloy by using different vegetable oils as base oil显示文摘Vegetable oil can be used as a base oil in minimal quantity of lubrication(MQL). This study compared the performances of MQL grinding by using castor oil, soybean oil, rapeseed oil, corn oil, sunflower oil, peanut oil, and palm oil as base oils. A K-P36 numerical-control precision surface grinder was used to perform plain grinding on a workpiece material with a high-temperature nickel base alloy. A YDM–III 99 three-dimensional dynamometer was used to measure grinding force, and a clip-type thermocouple was used to determine grinding temperature. The grinding force, grinding temperature, and energy ratio coefficient of MQL grinding were compared among the seven vegetable oil types. Results revealed that(1) castor oil-based MQL grinding yields the lowest grinding force but exhibits the highest grinding temperature and energy ratio coefficient;(2) palm oil-based MQL grinding generates the second lowest grinding force but shows the lowest grinding temperature and energy ratio coefficient;(3) MQL grinding based on the five other vegetable oils produces similar grinding forces, grinding temperatures, and energy ratio coefficients, with values ranging between those of castor oil and palm oil;(4) viscosity significantly influences grinding force and grinding temperature to a greater extent than fatty acid varieties and contents in vegetable oils;(5) although more viscous vegetable oil exhibits greater lubrication and significantly lower grinding force than less viscous vegetable oil, high viscosity reduces the heat exchange capability of vegetable oil and thus yields a high grinding temperature;(6) saturated fatty acid is a more efficient lubricant than unsaturated fatty acid; and(7) a short carbon chain transfers heat more effectively than a long carbon chain. Palm oil is the optimum base oil of MQL grinding, and this base oil yields 26.98 N tangential grinding force,87.10 N normal grinding force, 119.6 °C grinding temperature, and 42.7% energy ratio coefficient.Li Benkai Li Changhe Zhang Yanbin Wang Yaogang Jia Dongzhou Yang Min 2016Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2016,29,4:20
Carbon monoxide-induced adventitious rooting of hypo-cotyl cuttings from mung bean seedling显示文摘In this paper, the regulatory role of ex-ogenous carbon monoxide (CO) during the genera-tion and development of adventitious roots in mung bean (Phaseolus radiatus L. cv. Mingguang) hypo-cotyl cuttings was surveyed. The results indicated that, like nitric oxide (NO), CO donor Hematin in-duced adventitious rooting in dose- and time-de- pendent manners. These responses were also prov- en by the addition of gaseous CO aqueous solution with different concentrations. Additionally, the above CO-mediated effect was differently reversed when CO scavenger hemoglobin (Hb), CO specific syn-thetic inhibitor ZnPPIX, the auxin transport inhibitor NPA and nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor L-NAME were added with Hematin, respectively. Furthermore, after being treated with CO for 36 h, NO fluorescence was significantly enhanced and mainly distributed in the zone of vascular bundles whereas the specific NO scavenger cPTIO significantly inhib-ited NO fluorescence induced by CO, indicating that CO induces adventitious rooting of hypocotyl cuttings from mung bean seedling probably mediated by NO/NOS pathway.XU Ji XUAN Wei HUANG Benkai ZHOU Yehua LING Tengfang XU Sheng SHEN Wenbiao 2006Chinese Science Bulletin2006,51,6:16
Involvement of carbon monoxide produced by heme oxygenase in ABA-induced stomatal closure in Vicia faba and its proposed signal transduction pathway显示文摘Carbon monoxide (CO) has recently proven to be an important bioactive or signaling molecule in mammalian cells. Its effects are mainly mediated by nitric oxide (NO) and cyclic GMP (cGMP). In Vicia faba leaves, CO production and heme oxygenase (HO) activity, an important CO synthetic enzyme, are first reported to increase in response to ABA treatment, which could result in stomatal closure. Inter- estingly, ABA-induced stomatal closure in V. faba guard cells is partially blocked when the synthetic CO inhibitor ZnPP, or the CO/NO scavenger Hb is added. Furthermore, we show that, exogenously applied CO donor, hematin, and CO aqueous solution not only result in the enhancement of CO release, but also time-dependently induce stomatal closure, and the latter is mimicked by the application of an NO donor SNP. The above-mentioned stomatal closure effects are differentially reversed by the addition of tungstate, a potent inhibitor of NO synthetic enzyme nitrate reductase (NR), the specific NO scavenger cPTIO, ZnPP, or Hb. During treatment for 4 h, SNP, 0.01% CO aqueous solution or hematin significantly triggers NO synthesis, whereas cPTIO, or tungstate approximately fully inhibits NO fluorescence. Ad- ditionally, application of the GC inhibitor ODQ blocks CO-induced stomatal closure. This inhibition could be reversed when 8-Br-cGMP is added. Thus, the above results suggest that CO produced by HO is involved in ABA-induced stomatal closure, and NO and cGMP may function as downstream interme- diates in the CO signaling responsible for stomatal closure.CAO ZeYu HUANG BenKai WANG QingYa XUAN Wei LING TengFang ZHANG Bo CHEN Xi NIE Li SHEN WenBiaot 2007Chinese Science Bulletin2007,52,17:16
Prediction on grinding force during grinding powder metallurgy nickel-based superalloy FGH96 with electroplated CBN abrasive wheel显示文摘In this article,a grinding force model, which is on the basis of cutting process of single abrasive grains combined with the method of theoretical derivation and empirical formula by analyzing the formation mechanism of grinding force, was established.Three key factors have been taken into accounts in this model, such as the contact friction force between abrasive grains and materials, the plastic deformation of material in the process of abrasive plowing, and the shear strain effect of material during the process of cutting chips formation. The model was finally validated by the orthogonal grinding experiment of powder metallurgy nickel-based superalloy FGH96 by using the electroplated CBN abrasive wheel.Grinding force values of prediction and experiment were in good consistency. The errors of tangential grinding force and normal grinding force were 9.8%and 13.6%,respectively.The contributions of sliding force, plowing force and chip formation force were also analyzed. In addition, the tangential forces of sliding, plowing and chip formation are 14%,19%and 11%of the normal forces on average, respectively. The pro-posed grinding forcemodel is not only in favor of optimizing the grinding parameters and improving grinding efficiency, but also contributes to study some other grinding subjects(e.g.abrasive wheel wear, grinding heat, residual stress).Benkai LI Chenwei DAI Wenfeng DING Changyong YANG Changhe LI Olga KULIK Vyacheslav SHUMYACHER 2021Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2021,34,8:10

Pull-out Behaviour of Axially Loaded Screwed-in Threaded Rods Embedded in CLT Elements: Experimental Study显示文摘Experimental investigation on the pull-out behaviour, including the withdrawal capacity, slip stiffness and inter-facial shear stress,of axially loaded screwed-in threaded rod embedded in cross laminated timber(CLT)was con-ducted.Specimens with varying embedment length and different number of threaded rods were tested in this study. To prevent premature splitting failure of timber, some specimens were reinforced in the direction perpen-dicular to the timber grain with self-tapping screws.Test results showed that the screwed-in threaded rod con-nections exhibited good pull-out behaviour with high withdrawal capacity and slip stiffness.Within a certain range, the withdrawal capacity increases considerably with the increase of embedment length, while the average interfacial shear stress shows the opposite tendency. The self-tapping screws played an important role on reducing the splitting of the timber and improving the withdrawal capacity and slip stiffness of the screwed-in threaded rod.Additionally, for the specimens with self-tapping screw reinforcements, the improvement of withdrawal capacity and stiffness when increasing the number of threaded rods are much more obvious than that of the speci-mens without the self-tapping screws, due to the change of failure modes.Huifeng Yang Junfeng Ji Haotian Tao Benkai Shi Junbin Hu Bo Wen 2022Journal of Renewable Materials2022,10,1:0
Material Removal Mechanism and Force Modeling in Ultrasonic Vibration-Assisted Micro-Grinding Biological Bone显示文摘Micro-grinding with a spherical grinding head has been deemed an indispensable method in high-risk surgeries, such as neurosurgery and spine surgery, where bone grinding has long been plagued by the technical bottleneck of mechanical stress-induced crack damage. In response to this challenge, the ultrasound-assisted biological bone micro-grinding novel process with a spherical grinding head has been proposed by researchers. Force modeling is a prerequisite for process parameter determination in orthopedic surgery, and the difculty in establishing and accurately predicting bone micro-grinding force prediction models is due to the geometric distribution of abrasive grains and the dynamic changes in geometry and kinematics during the cutting process. In addressing these critical needs and technical problems, the shape and protrusion heights of the wear particle of the spherical grinding head were frst studied, and the gradual rule of the contact arc length under the action of high-speed rotating ultrasonic vibration was proposed. Second, the mathematical model of the maximum thickness of undeformed chips under ultrasonic vibration of the spherical grinding head was established. Results showed that ultrasonic vibration can reduce the maximum thickness of undeformed chips and increase the range of ductile and bone meal removals, revealing the mechanism of reducing grinding force. Further, the dynamic grinding behavior of diferent layers of abrasive particles under diferent instantaneous interaction states was studied. Finally, a prediction model of micro-grinding force was established in accordance with the relationship between grinding force and cutting depth, revealing the mechanism of micro-grinding force transfer under ultrasonic vibration. The theoretical model’s average deviations are 10.37% in x-axis direction, 6.85% in y-axis direction, and 7.81% in z-axis direction compared with the experimental results. This study provides theoretical guidance and technical support for clinical bone micro-grinding.Jingang Sun Changhe Li Zongming Zhou Bo Liu Yanbin Zhang Min Yang Teng Gao Mingzheng Liu Xin Cui Benkai Li Runze Li Yusuf Suleiman Dambatta Shubham Sharma 2023Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2023,36,5:0
Nanoparticle-enhanced coolants in machining:mechanism, application, and prospects显示文摘Nanoparticle-enhanced coolants(NPECs)are increasingly used in minimum quantity lubrication(MQL)machining as a green lubricant to replace conventional cutting fluids to meet the urgent need for carbon emissions and achieve sustainable manufacturing. However, the thermophysical properties of NPEC during processing remain unclear, making it difficult to provide precise guidance and selection principles for industrial applications. Therefore, this paper reviews the action mechanism, processing properties, and future development directions of NPEC.First, the laws of influence of nano-enhanced phases and base fluids on the processing performance are revealed, and the dispersion stabilization mechanism of NPEC in the preparation process is elaborated. Then, the unique molecular structure and physical properties of NPECs are combined to elucidate their unique mechanisms of heat transfer, penetration, and antifriction effects.Furthermore, the effect of NPECs is investigated on the basis of their excellent lubricating and cooling properties by comprehensively and quantitatively evaluating the material removal characteristics during machining in turning, milling, and grinding applications. Results showed that turning of Ti‒6Al‒4V with multi-walled carbon nanotube NPECs with a volume fraction of 0.2%resulted in a 34%reduction in tool wear,an average decrease in cutting force of 28%,and a 7%decrease in surface roughness Ra,compared with the conventional flood process. Finally, research gaps and future directions for further applications of NPECs in the industry are presented.Shuguo HU Changhe LI Zongming ZHOU Bo LIU Yanbin ZHANG Min YANG Benkai LI Teng GAO Mingzheng LIU Xin CUI Xiaoming WANG Wenhao XU Y.S.DAMBATTA Runze LI Shubham SHARMA 2023Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering2023,18,4:0
Shear Behaviors of Steel-Plate Connections for Timber-Concrete Composite Beams with Prefabricated Concrete Slabs显示文摘To promote the development of timber-concrete composite(TCC)structures,it is necessary to propose the assembly-type connections with high assembly efficiency and shear performances. This article presented the experimental results of the innovative steel-plate connections for TCC beams using prefabricated concrete slabs. The steel-plate connections consisted of the screws and the steel-plates.The steel-plates were partly embedded in the concrete slabs. The concrete slabs and the timber beams were connected by screws through the steel-plates.The parameters researched in this article included screw number, angle steel as the reinforcement for anchoring, and shallow notches on the timber surface to restrict the slip of the steel-plates.Experimental results were discussed in terms of failure modes, ultimate bearing capacities, and slip moduli. It was found that increasing the number of screws could lead to the obvious improvement on the ultimate bearing capacities and the slip moduli at the ultimate state;and the angle steel as the reinforcement showed the slight influence on the ultimate bearing capacities and the slip moduli. The application of the shallow notch can greatly improve the ultimate bearing capacities and the slip moduli. The calculation models for the ultimate bearing capacities and the slip moduli of the steel-plate connections with and without shallow notches were proposed, which showed good accuracy compared with the experimental results.Benkai Shi Bowen Huang Huifeng Yang Yongqing Dai Sijian Chen 2023Journal of Renewable Materials2023,11,1:0
Experimental Investigation on the Strength and Ductility Performance of Steel-Timber-Steel Joints with Screw and Steel-Tube Fasteners显示文摘This article presents experimental results of steel-timber-steel(STS)joints loaded parallel to grain.Eight groups of specimens were designed, and tensile tests were performed. The fastener types and fastener numbers were considered to evaluate the tensile strengths and ductility performances of the STS joints. The screws with 6 mm diameter and the innovative steel-tubes with 18 mm diameter were adopted as connecting fasteners. The experimental results were discussed in terms of yielding and ultimate strengths, slip stiffness, and ductility factors. The ductility classification and failure mechanisms of each group of specimens were analyzed. It was demonstrated that the STS joint with large diameter steel-tubes showed acceptable ductility, which was close to the ductility of the STS joint with small diameter screws, thanks to the hollow structure of the steel-tube.The theoretical strengths of various failure modes for the joints with small diameter screws or large diameter steel-tubes were calculated and compared with the experimental results. The ductile performance of the STS joint was discussed by comparing the theoretical strengths of various failure modes. The effective number of the STS joint with multifasteners was also analyzed by considering the failure mechanisms in aspects of tensile strength and slip stiffness.Huifeng Yang Mingwang Wu Rixin Gu Hang Cao Kai Xiao Benkai Shi 2023Journal of Renewable Materials2023,11,12:0
Experimental Evaluation of Flexural Behavior of Stress Laminated Timber Decks显示文摘Stress laminated timber(SLT)deck is assembled using timber(umber or glulam)components placed side by side and stressed together, which has the advantages of easy prefabrication and good cost performance. This work pre-sented an experimental investigation of bending tests per formed on SLT slabs.Several parameters, including pre-stress levels, distance of pre-stressing bars, and the existence of self tapping screw(STS)reinforcement, were taken into consideration. To reinforce the compressive property of timber perpendicular to the grain, the STSs were placed under the anchor plate of the pre-stressed bars. The experimental results were analyzed and discussed in terms of failure modes, ultimate bearing capacity, ultimate strain, and bending sifness. It was found that the SLT slab showed satisfactory composite action as well as resid ual bearing capacity. The pre stress levels showed an obvious effect on the load bearing capacity and relatively slight effect on the bending stiffness.Qingguo Ben Congcong Zhang Benkai Shi Huifeng Yang 2022Journal of Renewable Materials2022,10,12:0
