1Heavy Metals in a Sulfidic Minespoil:Fractions and Column Leaching显示文摘Fractions of various heavy metals in a sulfidic minespoil were investigated. Column leaching experimentwas also conducted to simulate 'acid mine drainage' (AMD) from the minespoil. The results show thatleaching of heavy metals from the minespoil was extremely significant during the initial water flushing.The amounts of heavy metals leached out dramatically reduced after leaching twice. It is worthwhile tonote that in this study, Zn, Mn, Fe, As and Ni in the first leachate exceeded the total amount of eachcorresponding water-extractable (1:5, soil:water) metal contained in the minespoil sample. This appears tosuggest that 1:5 water extraction did not allow accurate estimation of water-leachable concentrations of theabove heavy metals. This work has implications for the management of sulfidic minespoils. Acid drainageof great environmental concerns is likely to occur only during heavy rainfall events after substantial solubleand readily exchangeable acid and metals are accumulated in the minespoils. The slow-reacting fractionsother than water-soluble and readily exchangeable fractions may pose little environmental hazards. 2Laparoscopic nephroureterectomy for upper tract urothelial carcinoma-Update显示文摘Upper urinary tract urothelial carcinomas(UTUCs)are uncommon and account for only 5%e10%of urothelial carcinomas.Pyelocaliceal tumors are about twice as common as ureteral tumors.Sixty percent of UTUCs are invasive at diagnosis.Radical nephroureterectomy,including the excision of the distal ureter and bladder cuff is standard of care for treatment of localized UTUCs,because of the high potential for recurrence,multifocality,and progression.Since first laparoscopic nephroureterectomy(LNU)was introduced by Clayman et al.in 1991 and improvement of laparoscopic technique and equipment,LNU has been reported to be equivalent to conventional open method.We reviewed the current literature of patients with UTUCs treated by LNU focusing on technical aspects,peri-operative and oncological outcomes.Laparoscopic radical nephroureterectomy offers the advantages of minimally invasive surgery without deteriorating the oncological outcome for treatment of UTUCs.Indications tend to increase as operator skills increase.Indications for laparoscopic or open nephroureterectomy are in principle the same.The basic requirement for laparoscopic surgery in UTUCs is to achieve benefits of minimal invasive surgery and maintain oncologic principles.Victor C.Lin Chung-hsien Chen Allen W.Chiu 2016Asian Journal of Urology2016,3,3:8
3Acid Release from an Acid Sulfate Soil Sample Under Successive Extractions with Different Extractants显示文摘An acid sulfate soil sample was successively extracted with deionized water, 1 mol L-1 KCl and 0.000 5 mol L-l Ca(OH)2 solutions. The results showed that only very small amounts of acidity were extracted by deionized water, possibly through slow jarosite hydrolysis. Acid release through jarosite hydrolysis was greatly enhanced by Ca(OH)2 extraction at the expense of the added OH- being neutralized by the acid released. Successive extraction of the sample with KCl removed the largest amounts of acidity from the sample. However, it is likely that the major form of acidity released by KCl extraction was exchangeable acidity. The results also show the occurrence of low or non charged Al and Fe species in water and Ca(OH)2 extracts after first a few extractions. 4Characteristics of Soluble and Exchangeable Acidity inan Extremely Acidified Acid Sulfate Soil显示文摘An extremely acidified acid sulfate soil (ASS) was investigated to characterize its soluble and exchangeableacidity. The results showed that soluble acidity of a sample determined by titration with a KOH solutionwas much significantly greater than that indicated by pH measured using a PH meter, particularly for theextremely acidic soil samples. This is because the total soluble acidity of the extremely acidic soil sampleswas mainly composed of various soluble Al and Fe species, possibly in forms of Al sulfate complexes (e.g.,AISO4) and ferrous Fe (Fe2+). It is therefore suggested not to use pH alone as an indicator of soluble acidityin ASS, particularly for extremely acidic ASS. It is also likely that AISO4+ actively pericipated in cationexchange reactions. 5Rapid assembly of multilayer microfluidic structures via 3D-printed transfer molding and bonding显示文摘A critical feature of state-of-the-art microfluidic technologies is the ability to fabricate multilayer structures without relying on the expensive equipment and facilities required by soft lithography-defined processes.Here,three-dimensional(3D)printed polymer molds are used to construct multilayer poly(dimethylsiloxane)(PDMS)devices by employing unique molding,bonding,alignment,and rapid assembly processes.Specifically,a novel single-layer,two-sided molding method is developed to realize two channel levels,non-planar membranes/valves,vertical interconnects(vias)between channel levels,and integrated inlet/outlet ports for fast linkages to external fluidic systems.As a demonstration,a single-layer membrane microvalve is constructed and tested by applying various gate pressures under parametric variation of source pressure,illustrating a high degree of flow rate control.In addition,multilayer structures are fabricated through an intralayer bonding procedure that uses custom 3D-printed stamps to selectively apply uncured liquid PDMS adhesive only to bonding interfaces without clogging fluidic channels.Using integrated alignment marks to accurately position both stamps and individual layers,this technique is demonstrated by rapidly assembling a six-layer microfluidic device.By combining the versatility of 3D printing while retaining the favorable mechanical and biological properties of PDMS,this work can potentially open up a new class of manufacturing techniques for multilayer microfluidic systems.Casey C.Glick Mitchell T.Srimongkol Aaron J.Schwartz William S.Zhuang Joseph C.Lin Roseanne H.Warren Dennis R.Tekell Panitan A.Satamalee Liwei Lin 2016Microsystems & Nanoengineering2016,2,1:4

7A simple approach for bubble modelling from multiphase fluid simulation显示文摘This article presents a novel and flexible bubble modelling technique for multi-fluid simulations using a volume fraction representation. 8Lens thickness assessment : anterior segment optical coherence tomography versus A-scan ultrasonography显示文摘AIM: To assess lens thickness measurements with anterior segment-optical coherence tomography(AS-OCT)in comparison with A-scan ultrasonography(A-scan US).·METHODS: There were 218 adult subjects(218 eyes)aged 59.2 ±9.2y enrolled in this prospective cross-sectional study. Forty-three eyes had open angles and 175 eyes had narrow angles. Routine ophthalmic exam was performed and nuclear opacity was graded using the Lens Opacities Classification System Ⅲ(LOCS Ⅲ). Lens thickness was measured by AS-OCT(Visante OCT, Carl Zeiss Meditec, Dublin, CA, USA). The highest quality image was selected for each eye and lens thickness was calculated using Image J software. Lens thickness was also measured by A-scan US.·RESULTS: Interclass correlations showed a value of99.7% for intra-visit measurements and 95.3% for inter-visit measurements. The mean lens thickness measured by AS-OCT was not significantly different from that of A-scan US(4.861 ±0.404 vs 4.866 ±0.351 mm, P =0.74).Lens thickness values obtained from the two instruments were highly correlated overall(Pearson correlation coefficient =0.81,P <0.001), and in all LOCS Ⅲ specific subgroups except in grade 5 of nuclear opacity. Bland-Altman analysis revealed a 95% limit of agreement from-0.45 to 0.46 mm. Lens thickness difference between the two instruments became smaller as the lens thickness increased and AS-OCT yielded smaller values than A-scan US in thicker lens(β=-0.29, P <0.001)· CONCLUSION: AS-OCT-derived lens thickness measurement is valid and comparable to the results obtained by A-scan US.
