Heavy Metal Transfer from Soil to Vegetable in Southern Jiangsu Province, China显示文摘Vegetable fields in peri-urban areas receive large amounts of extraneous heavy metals because of rapid urbanization and industrialization in China. The concentrations of Cu, Zn, and Pb in 30 soil samples and 32 vegetable samples, collected from 30 different sites in southern Jiangsu Province of China, were measured and their transfer from soil to vegetable was determined. The results showed that the soil samples had wide ranges of pH (4.25–7.85) and electrical conductivity (EC) (0.24–3.42 dS m-1). Among the soil samples, there were four soil samples containing higher Cu and two soil samples containing higher Zn concentrations than those specified in the Chinese Soil Environmental Quality Standard II. However, no vegetable sample was found to contain a high level of Cu or Zn. In contrast, one vegetable sample contained 0.243 mg Pb kg-1 FW, which was above the Chinese Food Hygiene Standard, whereas the corresponding soil Pb concentration was lower than the Chinese Soil Environmental Quality Standard II. The transfer coefficients of Cu of all vegetable samples exceeded the suggested coefficient range, implying that extraneous Cu had high mobility and bioavailability to vegetables. There was no significant correlation between extractable soil heavy metal concentrations with four kinds of extractants and soil pH, EC, heavy metal concentrations in vegetables and soils, except that soil pH correlated well with the extractable soil Cu, Zn, and Pb concentrations with 1.0 mol L-1 NH4NO3. Moreover, diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA) extraction method was a more effcient method of extracting heavy metals from the soils independent of soil pH and EC than other three methods used. | HAO Xiu-Zhen ZHOU Dong-Mei HUANG De-Qian CANG Long ZHANG Hai-Lin WANG Hui | 2009 | Pedosphere2009,19,3: | 46
Effect of Different Amendments on Ryegrass Growth in Copper Mine Tailings显示文摘Montmorillonite, rice straw, organic manure and chemical fertilizer were used as amendment materials for copper mine tailings, and their effects on mine tailing pH, nutrients and metal availability to ryegrass were investigated. Chemical fertilization was the most effective one in improving ryegrass growth in mine tailings among the amendment materials examined. It was found that montmorillonite raised biomass of ryegrass at the 1st and 2nd cuts, but it did not give further positive effects at the 3rd and 4th cuts. The effect of organic materials on ryegrass growth was not so good as expected, mainly due to their slow decomposition in mine tailings with less soil microorganisms. Available Cu and Zn contents in mine tailings decreased in the presence of montmorillonite but increased when rice straw and organic manure were used as amendments. Cu and Zn contents in ryegrass decreased with increasing the rate of montmorillonite application but increased with the rate of rice straw. Zn showed much stronger mobility from soil to ryegrass than Cu, and almost all the available N and P in mine tailings, except for the treatments with organic manure, were completely consumed after ryegrass had grown in mine tailings for more than four months and been harvested for four times. Owing to its large biomass and high metal uptake, ryegrass is a potential plant for remediation of metal contaminated soils in practice. | HAO Xiu-Zhen, ZHOU Dong-Mei, WANG Yu-Jun, CANG Long and CHEN Huai-ManInstitute of Soil Science, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing 210008 (China). | 3 | Free Cu^(2+) Ions,Cu Fractionation and Microbial Parameters in Soils from Apple Orchards Following Long-Term Application of Copper Fungicides显示文摘Soil samples were collected from apple orchards 5,15,20,30,and 45 years old,and one adjacent forest soil was used as reference to investigate the free Cu2+ion activity in soil solution and the soil Cu fractionation in the solid phase following long-term application of copper fungicide,Bordeaux mixture,in apple orchards and to investigate the relationships among soil free Cu2+ions,Cu fractionation and soil microbial parameters. The total Cu concentration in the orchard soils varied from 21.8 to 141 mg kg-1,increasing with the orchard age,and the value for the reference soil was 12.5 mg kg-1.The free Cu2+ion concentrations in the soil solutions extracted by 0.01 mol L-1 KNO3 ranged from 3.13×10-8(reference)to 4.08×10-6 mol L-1(45 years-old orchard). The concentration of Cu complexed in the fulvic fraction increased with orchard age from 5.16 to 52.5 mg kg-1.This was also the case for other soil Cu fractions except the residual one.The residual soil Cu remained practically constant, ranging from 4.28 to 5.66 mg kg-1,suggesting that anthropogenic soil Cu mainly existed in the more labile active fractions.Regression analyses revealed that both the free Cu2+ions in the soil solution and the humic acid-complexed Cu fraction in the solid phase were strongly related with soil microbial parameters. | ZHOU Dong-Mei WANG Quan-Ying CANG Long | 2011 | Pedosphere2011,21,2: | 7
Bioavailability of Soil Copper from Different Sources:Integrating Chemical Approaches with Biological Indicators显示文摘Bioavailability is a key parameter in assessing contaminant transfer to biota. However, the input patterns and soil use types may impact the metal bioavailability.Several soil parameters were measured including chemical properties, such as pH,organic C,and Cu solution/solid speciation, and biological properties, such as soil microbial biomass C(SMBC),seed germination, and root elongation,to evaluate the bioavailability of Cu contaminated soils from three different sources,i.e.,non-ferrous metal mining,Cu-based fungicides, and Cu-smelting.The results revealed that free Cu^(2+)ion in soil solution and the ratios of Cu fractions to total Cu content in the solid phase could not be used to predict total Cu content in soils. The indexes of seed germination and root elongation appeared not to be good biomonitors of Cu contamination in soils, which were more sensitive to soil pH and soil organic carbon(SOC).Relationships between SMBC and soil Cu forms or the ratio of SMBC/SOC and soil Cu forms showed that free Cu^(2+)ion and humic acid-complexed Cu could significantly inhibit soil microbial activities. Our findings suggested that both metal chemical forms and biological bioassays should be considered as a complementary technique rather than an alternative to evaluate the metal bioavailability from different pollution sources. | WANG Quan-Ying ZHOU Dong-Mei CANG Long | 2014 | Pedosphere2014,24,1: | 2
Compact CubeSat Gamma-ray detector for GRID mission显示文摘Gamma-Ray Integrated Detectors(GRID)mis-sion is a student project designed to use multiple gamma-ray detectors carried by nanosatellites(CubeSats),forming a full-time all-sky gamma-ray detection network that monitors the transient gamma-ray sky in the multi-mes-senger astronomy era.A compact CubeSat gamma-ray detector, including its hardware and firmware, was designed and implemented for the mission. The detector employs four Gd 2 Al 2 Ga 3 O 12:Ce(GAGG:Ce)scintillators coupled with four silicon photomultiplier(SiPM)arrays to achieve a high gamma-ray detection efficiency between 10 keV and 2 MeV with low power and small dimensions. The first detector designed by the undergraduate student team onboard a commercial CubeSat was launched into a Sun-synchronous orbit on October 29,2018.The detector was in a normal observation state and accumulated data for approximately one month after on-orbit functional and performance tests, which were conducted in 2019. | Jia-Xing Wen Xu-Tao Zheng Jian-Dong Yu Yue-Peng Che Dong-Xin Yang Huai-Zhong Gao Yi-Fei Jin Xiang-Yun Long Yi-Hui Liu Da-Cheng Xu Yu-Chong Zhang Ming Zeng Yang Tian Hua Feng Zhi Zeng Ji-Rong Cang Qiong Wu Zong-Qing Zhao Bin-Bin Zhang Peng An GRID collaboration | 2021 | Nuclear Science and Techniques2021,32,9: | 2

Synthesis and characterization of Li_4Ti_5O_(12) via a hydrolysis process from TiCl_4 aqueous solution显示文摘Spinel-type lithium and titanium composite oxide Li4Ti5O12 was successfully synthesized via a novel hydrolysis method followed by calcination using titanium tetrachloride(TiCl4) and lithium hydroxide(LiOH H2O) as raw materials. Three major factors, including LiOH concentration, LiOH dosage, and hydrolysis temperature were studied for optimizing the synthetic conditions to obtain a phase-pure Li4Ti5O12. The physical and electrochemical properties of samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), thermogravimetric analysis(TGA), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), and constant current discharge–charge test. The FT-IR results indicate the presence of [TiO6]octahedra. The SEM images show that the Li4Ti5O12 precursor obtained is an amorphous solid with an irregular and rough morphology. It is revealed that the phase-pure spinel Li4Ti5O12 powders with well crystallization and regular morphology can be obtained by calcining the precursor at800 °C for 6 h. The constant current discharge–charge tests indicate that the Li4Ti5O12 material delivers an excellent cycling ability, maintaining 93.8 % of its initial specific capacity after 60 cycles at a current density of 0.5C. | Xuan-Yu Wang Yun-Jiao Li Cang Xu Long Kong Lin Li | 2014 | Rare Metals2014,33,4: | 1
