Involvement of carbon monoxide produced by heme oxygenase in ABA-induced stomatal closure in Vicia faba and its proposed signal transduction pathway显示文摘Carbon monoxide (CO) has recently proven to be an important bioactive or signaling molecule in mammalian cells. Its effects are mainly mediated by nitric oxide (NO) and cyclic GMP (cGMP). In Vicia faba leaves, CO production and heme oxygenase (HO) activity, an important CO synthetic enzyme, are first reported to increase in response to ABA treatment, which could result in stomatal closure. Inter- estingly, ABA-induced stomatal closure in V. faba guard cells is partially blocked when the synthetic CO inhibitor ZnPP, or the CO/NO scavenger Hb is added. Furthermore, we show that, exogenously applied CO donor, hematin, and CO aqueous solution not only result in the enhancement of CO release, but also time-dependently induce stomatal closure, and the latter is mimicked by the application of an NO donor SNP. The above-mentioned stomatal closure effects are differentially reversed by the addition of tungstate, a potent inhibitor of NO synthetic enzyme nitrate reductase (NR), the specific NO scavenger cPTIO, ZnPP, or Hb. During treatment for 4 h, SNP, 0.01% CO aqueous solution or hematin significantly triggers NO synthesis, whereas cPTIO, or tungstate approximately fully inhibits NO fluorescence. Ad- ditionally, application of the GC inhibitor ODQ blocks CO-induced stomatal closure. This inhibition could be reversed when 8-Br-cGMP is added. Thus, the above results suggest that CO produced by HO is involved in ABA-induced stomatal closure, and NO and cGMP may function as downstream interme- diates in the CO signaling responsible for stomatal closure. | CAO ZeYu HUANG BenKai WANG QingYa XUAN Wei LING TengFang ZHANG Bo CHEN Xi NIE Li SHEN WenBiaot | 2007 | Chinese Science Bulletin2007,52,17: | 16
Spatiotemporal spectrum and momentum flux of the stratospheric gravity waves generated by a typhoon显示文摘The simulation results of Typhoon Matsa (2005) by using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model show that pronounced stratospheric gravity waves (GWs) are generated in the vicinity of the typhoon. Using the model output, we investigate the spatial structures and the temporal variations of the GWs through a three dimensional (3-d) spectral analysis, i.e. the spectrum with respect to two horizontal wavenumbers and frequency. We further derive the momentum flux carried by the GWs. Spectral investigation results show that the power spectral density (PSD) of the GWs exhibits a single-peaked spectrum, which consists primarily of a distinct spectrum at horizontal wavelength of ~1000km, time period of 12-18h, and vertical wavelength of 7-9km. This spectrum is different from the spectra of GWs generated by deep convections disclosed by the previous researches. Both the PSD and momentum flux spectrum are prominent in positive k h portion, which is consistent with the fact that the GWs propagate in the upstream of mean flow. Large momentum flux is found to be associated with the GWs, and the net zonal momentum flux is 0.7845×10 3 Pa at 20km height, which can account for ~26% of the momentum flux that is required in driving the QBO phenomenon. | CHEN Dan CHEN ZeYu Lü DaRen | 2013 | Science China Earth Sciences2013,56,1: | 15
Visualizing the emerging trends of biochar research and applications in 2019:a scientometric analysis and review显示文摘Biochar, derived from thermal pyrolysis of biomass, has been regarded as a low-cost,sustainable and beneficial material and widely applied in agriculture, environment and energy during the last two decades. To elucidate the research status timely and future trends in biochar field,CiteSpace is used to systematically analyze the related literature retrieved from the Web of Science core collection in 2019.Based on the keywords clustering analysis,it was found that“biochar production”,“organic pollutants removal”,“heavy metals immobilization”,“bioremediation”were the main hotspots in research covering biochar.“Bioremediation”is an emerging topic and deserves extensive attention due to its highly effective and environmentally friendly treatment of pollutants.Improving the phytoremediation effect, immobilizing functional microorganisms on biochar, and using microorganisms as raw materials to produce biochar were the common methods of biochar-assisted bioremediation. While studies focused on“soil quality and plant growth”and“biochar and global climate change”decreased, investigations concentrated in the toxicity of biochar to soil biota and ruminants are sustainably growing.Research on direct and catalytic thermal pyrolysis of green waste(mainly microalgae)for biofuels(bio-oil,biodiesel,syngas,etc.)and biochar production is increasing.Converting municipal wastes(e.g.,sewage sludge, fallen leaves)into biochar through pyrolysis was a suitable treatment for municipal waste and became a popular topic in recent time. Moreover, the biochar produced from these municipal wastes exhibited excellent performance in the removal of pollutants from wastewater and soil. This review may help to identify future directions in biochar research and applications. | Ping Wu Zeyu Wang Hailong Wang Nanthi S.Bolan Yujun Wang Wenfu Chen | 2020 | Biochar2020,2,2: | 14
Simulation of the stratospheric gravity waves generated by the Typhoon Matsa in 2005显示文摘The generation of stratospheric gravity waves(GWs) due to typhoon is simulated by using a meso-scale model(WRF) with a typhoon case, the Matsa in 2005.An 8-day model run that covers the major stages of the Matsa's development reproduces the key features of the typhoon. For example, good agreements in the typhoon's track, the intensity, and the spiral clouds,as well as mean state of stratosphere, are seen between the simulation results and the observation.Simulation results clearly show that with typhoon propagates northwestward, pronounced stratospheric GWs are generated continuously in the vicinity of Matsa. The GWs exhibit the typical curve-like wave fronts away from the Typhoon Matsa, and propagate preferentially in the upstream of the background winds. These characteristics reflect that the stratospheric GWs are closely associated with the typhoon, and thus the GWs are referred to as Tropical Cyclone related Gravity Waves(TC-GWs).The results also show that these waves should have a rather large horizontal scale so that the outmost wave fronts can be seen at the distance of ~1000 km to the typhoon center in the horizontal plane of 20 km.This is consistent with the phenomenon of stratospheric TC-GWs with ~1000 km horizontal scale disclosed by the previous observational analysis results. | CHEN Dan CHEN ZeYu Lü DaRen | 2012 | Science China Earth Sciences2012,55,4: | 12
Changes of plasma C-reactive protein in patients with craniocerebral injury before and after hyperbaric oxygenation: A randomly controlled study显示文摘BACKGROUND: Plasma inflammatory factor, such as C-reactive protein, whose content is regarded as a sensitively pathological marked protein and quantitative indexes of central nervous system injury, has been paid more and more attention in clinic. OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects and clinical significance of C-reactive protein in patients with craniocerebral injury after hyperbaric oxygenation. DESIGN: Randomized controlled study. SETTING: Departments of Neurosurgery, Laboratory and Hyperbaric Oxygen, the Second Affiliated Hospital, Medical College of Shantou University. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 60 patients with craniocerebral injury were selected from Department of Neurosurgery, the Second Affiliated Hospital, Medical College of Shantou University from October 2006 to April 2007. There were 37 males and 23 females and the mean age was 26 years. All subjects were certainly diagnosed as history of craniocerebral injury. Patients hospitalized at 24 hours after injury, Glasgow Coma Score ranged from 3 to 12 points, and all patients were certainly diagnosed with CT or MR scanning. Patients and their relatives provided confirmed consent. All the subjects were randomly divided into hyperbaric oxygenation group and control group with 30 in each group. METHODS: Patients in the control group were treated with routinely neurosurgical therapy after hospitalization; however, based the same basic treatment in the control group, patients in the hyperbaric oxygenation group received hyperbaric oxygenation by using iced-wheel four-door 2-cabin air-compression chamber (made in Yantai) from 24 hours to 10 days after operation or injury. After entering the cabin, patients who had a clear consciousness breathed the oxygen by using face mask; contrarily, patients directly breathed the oxygen. Therapeutic project: Expression was increased for about 15–20 minutes, maintained for about 70–80 minutes, and decreased for 20 minutes. Otherwise, pressure was maintained from 0.2 to 0.25 MPa. Hyperbaric oxygenation took an hour for once a day and 10 times were regarded as a course. Venous blood was collected before treatment and on the next day of the first course end. Content of C-reactive protein in plasma was measured with immune turbidimetry in hyperbaric oxygenation group; in addition, content of C-reactive protein in plasma was directly measured with the same method at the corresponding time in the control group. If the content was less or equal to 8 mg/L, it was regarded as normal value. Effects of the two groups were evaluated based on Glasgow Coma Score before and after treatment. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Content of plasma C-reactive protein and Glasgow Coma Score in the two groups before and after treatment. RESULTS: All 60 patients were involved in the final analysis. ① Content of plasma C-reactive protein: The two contents were obviously higher than normal value after craniocerebral injury. There was no significant difference in the two groups before treatment (P > 0.05), but both contents were decreased after treatment, and there was significant difference between HBOT group and control group after treatment (t =4.756, P < 0.01). In addition, there was significant difference in hyperbaric oxygen therapy group before and after treatment (t =5.236, P < 0.01). ② Glasgow Coma Score: There was no significant difference in the two groups before treatment (P > 0.05), but scores were increased in both groups after treatment (t =9.92, 2.51, P < 0.01, 0.05); on the other hand, therefore, there was significant difference between the two groupsafter treatment (t =9.21, P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: Hyperbaric oxygenation can remarkably decrease content of plasma C-reactive protein in patients with craniocerebral injury at the phase of stress. | Zeyu Xie Minghua Zhuang Lan Lin Hongwu Xu Linxing Chen Lina Hu | 2007 | Neural Regeneration Research2007,2,5: | 9
Simulation of the stratosphere-troposphere exchange process in a typical cold vortex over Northeast China显示文摘A mesoscale weather research and forecasting(WRF)model was used to simulate a cold vortex that developed over Northeast China during June 19–23,2010.The simulation used high vertical resolution to reproduce the key features of the cold vortex development.Characteristics of the associated stratosphere-troposphere exchange(STE),specifically the spatiotemporal distribution of the cross-tropopause mass flux(CTF),were investigated using the Wei formula. The simulation results showed that the net mass exchange induced by the cold vortex was controlled by stratosphere-to-troposphere transport(STT)processes. In the pre-formation stage of the cold vortex(i.e.,the development of the trough and ridge),active exchange was evident.Over the lifecycle of the cold vortex,STT processes prevailed at the rear of the trough and moving vortex, whereas troposphere-to-stratosphere transport(TST)processes prevailed at the front end. This spatial pattern was caused by temporal fluctuations of the tropopause. However, because of the cancellation of the upward flux by the downward flux, the contribution of the tropopause fluctuation term to the net mass exchange was only minor. In this case, horizontal motion dominated the net mass exchange. The time evolution of the CTF exhibited three characteristics:(1)the predominance of the STT during the pre-formation stage;(2)the formation and development of the cold vortex,in which the CTF varied in a fluctuating pattern from TST to STT to TST;and(3)the prevalence of the STT during the decay stage. | CHEN Dan Lü DaRen CHEN ZeYu | 2014 | Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,7: | 7

Mycorrhizal fungal community composition in seven orchid species inhabiting Song Mountain, Beijing, China显示文摘Mycorrhizal fungi play an important role in the germination and growth of orchids essentially influencing their survival, abundance, and spatial distribution. In this study, we investigated the composition of the mycorrhizal fungal community in seven terrestrial orchid species inhabiting Song Mountain, Beijing, China, using Illumina MiSeq high-throughput sequencing. The mycorrhizal communities in the seven orchids were mainly composed of members of the Ceratobasidiaceae, Sebacinales, and Tulasnellaceae, while a number of ectomycorrhizal fungi belonging to the Russulaceae, Tricholomataceae, Thelephoraceae, and Cortinariaceae were occasionally observed. However, the dominant fungal associates and mycorrhizal community differed significantly among the orchid species as well as subhabitats. These findings confirm the previous observation that sympatric orchid species show different preferences for mycorrhizal fungi, which may drive niche partitioning and contribute to their cooccurrence. | Yanhong Chen Yue Gao Linli Song Zeyu Zhao Shunxing Guo Xiaoke Xing | 2019 | Science China(Life Sciences)2019,62,6: | 6

Graphene TiO_2 nanocomposites with high photocatalytic activity for the degradation of sodium pentachlorophenol显示文摘A series of graphene–TiO2photocatalysts was synthesized by doping TiO2 with graphene oxide via hydrothermal treatment. The photocatalytic capability of the catalysts under ultraviolet irradiation was evaluated in terms of sodium pentachlorophenol(PCP-Na) decomposition and mineralization. The structural and physicochemical properties of these nanocomposites were characterized by X-ray diffraction, N2adsorption–desorption, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Ultraviolet–visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, electron paramagnetic resonance spectra, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The graphene–TiO2nanocomposites exhibited higher photocatalytic efficiency than commercial P25 for the degradation of PCP-Na, and 63.4% to 82.9% of the total organic carbon was fully mineralized. The improved photocatalytic activity may be attributed to the accelerated interfacial electron-transfer process and the significantly prolonged lifetime of electron-hole pairs imparted by graphene sheets in the nanocomposites. However, excessive graphene and the inhomogeneous aggregation of TiO2 nanoparticles may decrease photodegradation efficiency. | Yaxin Zhang Zeyu Zhou Tan Chen Hongtao Wang Wenjing Lu | 2014 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2014,26,10: | 6
Simulation of the equatorial quasi-biennial oscillation based on the parameterization of continuously spectral gravity waves显示文摘On the basis of previous parameterization schemes, considering both the wave breaking and absorbed at critical level, a parameterization with a continuous spectrum of gravity waves is realized by introducing a momentum flux density function for the wave spectrum, and then the parameterization scheme of the gravity waves is improved. Choosing parameter values of the background atmosphere and waves based on the observations, a more realistic equatorial quasi-biennial oscillation (QBO) driven by the incorporated drag from the planetary and gravity waves can be simulated. The numerical results indicate that the forcing magnitude of the planetary and gravity waves varies with the wind field, and in some phases of the QBO, the contribution of the gravity waves is comparable with that of the planetary waves. After the QBO is steadily formed, its amplitude and period and wind configuration are relevant to the effect of vertical diffusion and the momentum flux distribution with spectrum, however, independent of the initial background wind field. Moreover, for any given nonzero initial background wind, a steady QBO can be finally generated due to the incorporated drag from the planetary and gravity waves. | HUANG KaiMing ZHANG ShaoDong ,YI Fan CHEN ZeYu | 2009 | Chinese Science Bulletin2009,54,2: | 6
Global structures of the DE3 tide显示文摘The Hough mode decomposition (HMD) is used to investigate the global structures of the eastward propagating diurnal tide of zonal wavenumber 3 (DE3). The tide is delineated by using the SABER/ TIMED temperatures collected during 2002―2006. The HMD analysis results show that the DE3 tide is primarily dominated by two leading propagating Hough modes, i.e., (-3, 3) and (-3, 4) modes; the in-fluences .of the other Hough modes including trapped modes can be neglected. Based upon the HMD analysis results, this paper first reported the maximum of the tidal activity in the MLT region. The re-sults show that the DE3 tide exhibits annual unimodal distribution with the maximal amplitude occur-ring at 110 km in late summer (around July each year). Moreover, characteristic 2-year period variation is observed in the (-3, 3) Hough mode. And this type of inter-annual variation is further reflected in the tidal amplitude at 110 km height. For example, corresponding to the 2-year variation of the (-3, 3) mode, the DE3 tidal amplitude exhibits two substantially enhanced activities with maximal amplitude exceed-ing 12 K in 2002 and 2004, respectively. Moreover, current investigation results indicate that the influ-ence of the second propagating Hough mode, (-3, 4) mode, is important, in particular at the height un-der 100 km, where the DE3 amplitudes exhibit antisymmetric distribution with respect to the equator. The (-3, 4) mode exhibits bimodal distribution over a yearly course, which dominates the DE3 tide in the lower mesosphere. For example, two maximal DE3 activities were observed in late-winter-to-early- spring and late-autumn-to-early-winter, respectively. The first maximum is seen in the south of the equator, and the second maximum is in the north of it. | CHEN ZeYu LU DaRen | 2009 | Chinese Science Bulletin2009,54,6: | 4
miR395-regulated sulfate metabolism exploits pathogen sensitivity to sulfate to boost immunity in rice显示文摘MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play important roles in plant physiological activities. However, their roles and molecular mechanisms in boosting plant immunity, especially through the modulation of macronutrient metabolism in response to pathogens, are largely unknown. Here, we report that an evolutionarily conserved miRNA, miR395, promotes resistance to Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) and X. oryzae pv. oryzicola (Xoc), two destructive bacterial pathogens, by regulating sulfate accumulation and distribution in rice. Specifically, miR395 targets and suppresses the expression of the ATP sulfurylase gene OsAPS1, which functions in sulfate assimilation, and two sulfate transporter genes, OsSULTR2;1 and OsSULTR2;2, which function in sulfate translocation, to promote sulfate accumulation, resulting in broad-spectrum resistance to bacterial pathogens in miR395-overexpressing plants. Genetic analysis revealed that miR395-triggered resistance is involved in both pathogen-associated molecular pattern-triggered immunity and R gene-mediated resistance. Moreover, we found that accumulated sulfate but not S-metabolites inhibits proliferation of pathogenic bacteria, revealing a sulfate-mediated antibacterial defense mechanism that differs from sulfur-induced resistance. Furthermore, compared with other bacteria, Xoo and Xoc, which lack the sulfate transporter CysZ, are sensitive to high levels of extracellular sulfate. Accordingly, miR395-regulated sulfate accumulation impaired the virulence of Xoo and Xoc by decreasing extracellular polysaccharide production and biofilm formation. Taken together, these results suggest that rice miR395 modulates sulfate metabolism to exploit pathogen sensitivity to sulfate and thereby promotes broad-spectrum resistance. | Zeyu Yang Shugang Hui Yan Lv Miaojing Zhang Dan Chen Jingjing Tian Haitao Zhang Hongbo Liu Jianbo Cao Wenya Xie Changyin Wu Shiping Wang Meng Yuan | 2022 | Molecular Plant2022,15,4: | 3

The rice Raf-like MAPKKK OsILA1 confers broad-spectrum resistance to bacterial blight by suppressing the OsMAPKK4-OsMAPK6 cascade显示文摘Mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase(MAPKKK)are the first components of MAPK cascades, which play pivotal roles in signaling during plant development and physiological processes. The genome of rice encodes 75 MAPKKKs,of which 43 are Raf-like MAPKKKs.The functions and action modes of most of the Raf-like MAPKKKs,whether they function as bona fide MAPKKKs and which are their downstream MAPKKs,are largely unknown. Here,we identified the osmapkkk43 mutant, which conferred broad-spectrum resistance to Xanthomonas oryzae pv.oryzae(Xoo),the destructive bacterial pathogen of rice.Oryza sativa(Os)MAPKKK43 encoding a Raf-like MAPKKK was previously known as Increased Leaf Angle 1(OsILA1).Genetic analysis indicated that OsILA1 functioned as a negative regulator and acted upstream of the OsMAPKK4-OsMAPK6 cascade in rice-Xoo interactions.Unlike classical MAPKKKs,OsILA1 mainly phosphorylated the threonine 34 site at the N-terminal domain of OsMAPKK4,which possibly influenced the stability of OsMAPKK4.The N-terminal domain of OsILA1 is required for its homodimer formation and its full phosphorylation capacity.Taken together, our findings reveal that OsILA1 acts as a negative regulator of the OsMAPKK4-OsMAPK6 cascade and is involved in rice-Xoo interactions. | Jie Chen Lihan Wang Zeyu Yang Hongbo Liu Chuanliang Chu Zhenzhen Zhang Qinglu Zhang Xianghua Li Jinghua Xiao Shiping Wang Meng Yuan | 2021 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2021,63,10: | 3
Effects of a check dam system on the runoff generation and concentration processes of a catchment on the Loess Plateau显示文摘As an important soil and water conservation engineering measure, more than 100,000 check dams are constructed across the Loess Plateau;these dams play a vital role in reducing floods and sediment in the region. However, the effects of check dams on hydrologic process are still unclear, particularly when they are deployed as a system for watershed soil and water management. This study examined the watershed hydrologic process modulated by the check dam system in a typical Loess Plateau catchment.By simulating scenarios with various numbers of check dams using a distributed physically-based hydro-logical model, the effects of the number of check dams on runoff generation and concentration were analyzed for the study catchment. The results showed that the presence of check dams reduced the peak discharge and the flood volume and extended the flood duration;the reduction effect on peak discharge was most significant among the three factors. The system of check dams substantially decreased the runoff coefficient, and the runoff coefficient reduction rate was greater for rainstorms with shorter return periods than for rainstorms with longer return periods. The check dams increased the capacity of the catchment regulating and storing floods and extended the average runoff concentration time in the catchment that flattened the instantaneous unit hydrograph. This study reveals the influencing mech-anism of check dam system on the watershed hydrological process under heavy rainstorm conditions and provides a theoretical basis for evaluating the effects of numerous check dams on regional hydrology and water resources on the Loess Plateau. | Shuilong Yuan Zhanbin Li Li Chen Peng Li Zeyu Zhang Junzheng Zhang Anna Wang kunxia Yu | 2022 | International Soil and Water Conservation Research2022,10,1: | 3
