1OBSERVATION AND MODEL ANALYSES OF POSITIVE CLOUD-TO-GROUND LIGHTNING IN MESOSCALE CONVECTIVE SYSTEMS显示文摘The analyses of spatial and temporal characteristics of positive cloud-to-ground(CG)lightning for four mesoscaleconvective systems and two severe local convective systems in 1989 and 1990 show that positive CG flash rate usuallyhas two peak values.The major peak occurs during the developing stage of the storm and most of the positive CGflashes originate at the lower part of the storm.The minor occurs during the dissipative stage of the storm and most ofthe positive CG flashes originate at the upper part of the storm,especially in the region of the wind divergence in thestorm anvil.The positive CG flash rate is almost an order of magnitude larger in the developing stage than in thedissipative stage.The appearing time of the peak of negative CG flash rate is in accordance with that of the valley of pos-itive CG flash rate.The higher the intensity of the radar echo,the higher the positive CG flash rate.Most of the positive CG flashes oc-cur when the weak echo area is larger,and mostly originate in the region where the radar echo intensity is about 10dBzand in the back region of the moving storms.The spatial distribution of the positive CG flashes is much more dispersivethan that of the negative.The mesoscale analysis reveals a bipolar lightning pattern.The mean bipole--length reaches itsminimum during the mature stage of the storm and reaches the maximum during the developing stage of the storm.The vertical distribution of the charge density is calculated by a one-dimensional charging model.Then,we discussthe producing condition of the positive CG lightning and forming cause of charge structure mentioned above.Yan Muhong Guo Changming Qie Xiushu Ge Zhengmo Zhang Guangshu Lanzhou Institute of Plateau Atmospheric Physics,Academia Sinica,Lanzhou 730000 1992Acta meteorologica Sinica1992,6,4:16
2Easily prepared and stable functionalized magnetic ordered mesoporous silica for efficient uranium extraction显示文摘Functionalized magnetic Fe_3O_4@SiO_2 composite nanoparticles were prepared by simply embedding iron oxide nanoparticles into MCM-41 through one-step synthesis process, followed by aminopropyls grafting on the mesopore channels, aiming to efficiently and conveniently uptake U(VI) from aqueous solution. The resultant material possesses highly ordered mesoporous structure with large surface area, uniform pore size, excellent thermal stability, quick magnetic response, and desirable acids resistance, confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), N_2 adsorption/desorption experiments, powder X-ray diffraction(PXRD), and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA). Detailed U(VI) sorption test indicated that this material is indeed an effective U(VI) sorbent with fast sorption kinetics of less than 2 h, large sorption capacity of 160 mg/g at p H 5.0±0.1, and desirable selectivity towards U(VI) ions over a range of competing metal ions. The absorbed U(VI) can be easily desorbed by 0.01 mol/L or more concentrated HNO_3 solution, and the reclaimed sorbent can be reused with no obvious decrease of sorption capacity even after 4 sorption-desorption cycles. 3Indoor imitation experimental study on driving factors of rainfall-runoff process显示文摘The driving actions of rainfall-runoff process can be attributed to two aspects. The first is the influence of precipitation process, and the second is that of the ground pad. The re- search results of 179 indoor experiments conducted to imitate rainfall-runoff process indicate that both precipitation duration and intensity play important roles in affecting confluence lag time, which is obviously inconsistent with the traditional hypotheses. The nonlinear relationship is of great significance to the confluence curve especially when the precipitation duration is less than the total confluence time or the precipitation intensity is small. Therefore it can be concluded that the unit hydrograph (UH) can be applied to rainfall-runoff process imitation in the humid areas in the south China region. However, the UH application should be strictly modified in accordance with precipitation conditions in the arid and semiarid region of north China where the precipitation duration is short and the intensity is unstable. It will be hard to get ideal imitation results if the UH is applied blindly without considering specific conditions in the north China region. This also explains the unsatisfactory imitation results caused by using various hydrological models in the north China region. When the precipitation duration is short, and the watershed has not reached total watershed concentration, the characteristics of confluence change greatly, which reflects the actual situation in the north China region. Therefore necessary nonlinear corrections should be made when UH is applied. If the duration is longer than the total confluence time and the balance between pondage and discharge is stricken, the imitation research results will be applicable to both rainfall-runoff relation with longer duration in the south China region and the basic theoreti- cal research on runoff generation and concentration. On conditions of adequate rainfall, peak discharge is in linear relationship with intensity, but has nothing to do with the ground pad. There is a negative linear relationship between intensity and time to peak . 4Terminal sulfur atoms formation via defect engineering strategy to promote the conversion of lithium polysulfides显示文摘The defect engineering shows great potential in boosting the conversion of lithium polysulfides intermediates for high energy density lithium-sulfur batteries(LSBs),yet the catalytic mechanisms remain unclear.Herein,the oxygen-defective Li_(4)Ti_(5)O_(12)-xhollow microspheres uniformly encapsulated by N-doped carbon layer(OD-LTO@NC)is delicately designed as an intrinsically polar inorganic sulfur host for the research on the catalytic mechanism.Theoretical simulations have demonstrated that the existence of oxygen deficiencies enhances the adsorption capability of spinel Li_(4)Ti_(5)O_(12)towards soluble lithium polysulfides.Some-S-S-bonds of the Li2S6on the defective Li_(4)Ti_(5)O_(12)surface are fractured by the strong adsorption force,which allows the inert bridging sulfur atoms to be converted into the susceptible terminal sulfur atoms,and reduces the activation energy of the polysulfide conversion in some degree.In addition,with the N-doped carbon layer,secondary hollow microspheres architecture built with primary ultrathin nanosheets provide a large amount of void space and active sites for sulfur storage,adsorption and conversion.The as-designed sulfur host exhibits a remarkable rate capability of 547 m Ah g^(-1)at 4C(1 C=1675 m A g^(-1))and an outstanding long-term cyclability(519 m Ah g^(-1)after 1000 cycles at 3 C).Besides,a high specific capacity of 832 m Ah g^(-1)is delivered even after 100 cycles under a high sulfur mass loading of 3.2 mg cm^(-2),indicating its superior electrochemical performances.This work not only provides a strong proof for the application of oxygen defect in the adsorption and catalytic conversion of lithium polysulfides,but offers a promising avenue to achieve high performance LSBs with the material design concept of incorporating oxygen-deficient spinel structure with hierarchical hollow frameworks.Yuanchang Li Wenda Li Xiujuan Yan Zhenfang Zhou Xiaosong Guo Jing Liu Changming Mao Zhonghua Zhang Guicun Li 2022Journal of Materials Science & Technology2022,,8:2
5Engineering transition metal-based nanomaterials for high-performance electrocatalysis显示文摘Transition metal(TM)based electrocatalysts attract increasing attention in energy conversion reactions,and current effects focus on material engineering strategies to tailor physicochemical properties of TM based electrocatalysts for improved performance.This review provides a summary about the recent advances of engineering TM based nanomaterials for electrocatalytic reactions,which include hydrogen evolution reaction(HER),oxygen evolution reaction(OER),CO2 reduction reaction(CO2RR),and nitrate reduction reaction(NO3RR).We highlight four engineering strategies,namely,size engineering,facet engineering,composition engineering,and crystal structure engineering for TM based electrocatalysts,and pay a special emphasis on exploring the relationship between their physicochemical properties and catalytic activities.We outline the opportunities in this research field,in particular,the strategy of rationally combining in-situ and operando techniques and theoretical predication to design efficient electrocatalysts.Finally,issues that deserve attention and consideration for practical applications are discussed.Changhong Wang Changming Li Jinlong Liu Chunxian Guo 2021Materials Reports(Energy)2021,1,1:2

16Diet and Prey Selection of the Invasive American Bullfrog(Lithobates catesbeianus) in Southwestern China显示文摘Invasive predators have been widely regarded as one of the principle drivers of the global decline of amphibians, which are among the most threatened vertebrate taxon on Earth. The American bullfrog(Lithobates catesbeianus) is identified as one of the most successful vertebrate invaders and has caused the decline or extinction of some native amphibians in many regions and countries including China. Based on field surveys and stomach content analyses, we examined the diet composition of the invasive bullfrog for the first time in two invaded populations in Yunnan Province, southwestern China, a region of global conservation priority, during the breeding season from 2008 to 2014. Additionally, we conducted the first quantitative study on the prey selection of this global invader among their invaded ranges after controlling for the local anuran assemblage and other aquatic preys in the environment. Our results showed that the range of food items in the stomachs of bullfrogs spanned more than 30 species belonging to ten taxonomic classes. Both of post-metamorphosis individuals and juveniles preyed upon native frogs, independent of the bullfrog's body size and mouth width. Importantly, Jacobs' selection index showed a bullfrog preference for the Yunnan pond frog(Babina pleuraden), one native endemic anuran with population decline, in terms of both food volume and occurrence. 17In-situ construction of conducting alloy interphase towards modulating Li-ion storage kinetics显示文摘Interface engineering strategy shows great promise in promoting the reaction kinetic and cycling performance in the field of electrochemical energy storage application.In this work,an in-situ interface growth strategy is proposed to introduce a robust and conducting MoGe_(2) alloy interphase between the electrochemical active Ge nanoparticle and flexible MoS_(2) nanosheets to modulate their Li-ion storage kinetics.The structural evolution processes of the Ge@MoGe_(2)@MoS_(2) composite are unraveled,during which the initially-generated Ge metals serve as a crucial reduction mediator in the formation of MoGe_(2) species bridging the Ge and MoS_(2).The as-generated MoGe_(2) interface,chemically bonding with both Ge and MoS_(2),possesses multi-fold merits,including the maintaining stable framework of electrochemically inactive Mo matrix to buffer the strain-stress effect and the'welding spot'effects to facilitate the efficient Li^(+)/e^(-)conduction.As well,the introduction of MoGe_(2) interface leads to a unique sequential lithiation/de^(-)lithiation process,namely in the order of the electrochemically active MoS_(2)-MoGe_(2)-Ge during lithiation and vice versa,during which the electrode strain could be more effectively released.Benefited from the robust and rigid MoGe_(2) interface,the delicately designed Ge@MoGe_(2)@MoS_(2) composite exhibits an improved charge/discharge performances(866.7 mAh g^(-1) at 5.0 A g^(-1) and 838.5 mAh g^(-1) after 400 cycles)while showing a high tap density of 1.23 g cm^(-3).The as-proposed in-situ interface growth strategy paves a new avenue for designing novel high-performance electrochemical energy storage materials.Lingjie Li Dandan Wang Xiaoxia Xu Xiaosong Guo Jing Liu Changming Mao Zhonghua Zhang Guicun Li 2021Journal of Energy Chemistry2021,30,5:0
18Selenium vacancies enable efficient immobilization and bidirectional conversion acceleration of lithium polysulfides for advanced Li-S batteries显示文摘Heterostructures composed of oxides and sulfides(nitrides or carbides)show great potential as sulfur host additives because of the strong adoptability of oxides and catalytic capability of sulfides towards the notorious lithium polysulfides(LiPSs).However,the migration and conversion pathway of LiPSs is seriously confined at a localized interface with inadequate active sites.In this work,the introduction of selenium vacancies into VSe_(2−x)has been demonstrated to successfully synergize the adsorbability and catalytic reactions of LiPSs at an integrated functional surface.The N-doped carbon nanosheets-assembled flower architectures embedded with selenium vacancy-rich VSe_(2−x)and partial vanadium oxides have been controllably synthesized and employed as the cathode additives for lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries.Both the experiments and first-principle calculations reveal their strong adsorption to LiPSs and their bidirectional catalytic functionality towards the conversion between S8 and Li_(2)S.As expected,the charge and discharge kinetics of VSe_(2−x)containing sulfur cathodes is fundamentally improved(an outstanding rate capabilitiy with 693.7 mAh·g^(−1)at 2 C,a remarkable long-term cyclability within 1,000 cycles at 2 C with S loading 2.27 mg·cm^(−2),and an excellent areal capacity with 3.44 mAh·cm^(−2)within 100 cycles at 0.5 C).This work presents an effective resolution to couple the adsorbability and catalytic reactions of LiPSs at the material design perspective,and the insights on bidirectional catalytic functionality are of vital to develop functional materials for advanced Li-S batteries.Yuanchang Li Zhenfang Zhou Yong Li Zhonghua Zhang Xiaosong Guo Jing Liu Changming Mao Zhenjiang Li Guicun Li 2022Nano Research2022,15,8:0

20Prospects and Challenges of THz Precoding显示文摘Terahertz(THz) communications are considered as very promising for the sixth-generation(6 G) ultra-dense wireless networks. However, THz signals suffer from well-known severe path loss, which consequently shortens the coverage of THz communication systems. To deal with this issue, precoding technique is expected to be beneficial to extend the limited coverage by providing directional beams with ultra large number of antenna arrays. In this paper, we overview the state-ofthe-art developments of THz precoding techniques such as reconfigurable intelligent surface based precoding, hybrid digital-analog precoding and delay-phase precoding. Based on the survey, we summarize several open issues remaining to be addressed, and discuss the prospects of a few potential research directions on THz precoding, such as one-bit precoding, precoding for hardware impairments and THz security precoding.
