1A Review of Seasonal Climate Prediction Research in China显示文摘The ultimate goal of climate research is to produce climate predictions on various time scales. In China, efforts to predict the climate started in the 1930 s. Experimental operational climate forecasts have been performed since the late 1950 s,based on historical analog circulation patterns. However, due to the inherent complexity of climate variability, the forecasts produced at that time were fairly inaccurate. Only from the late 1980 s has seasonal climate prediction experienced substantial progress, when the Tropical Ocean and Global Atmosphere project of the World Climate Research program(WCRP) was launched. This paper, following a brief description of the history of seasonal climate prediction research, provides an overview of these studies in China. Processes and factors associated with the climate variability and predictability are discussed based on the literature published by Chinese scientists. These studies in China mirror aspects of the climate research effort made in other parts of the world over the past several decades, and are particularly associated with monsoon research in East Asia. As the climate warms, climate extremes, their frequency, and intensity are projected to change, with a large possibility that they will increase. 2Hypocrellin A-based photodynamic action induces apoptosis in A549 cells through ROS-mediated mitochondrial signaling pathway显示文摘Over recent decades, many studies have reported that hypocrellin A(HA) can eliminate cancer cells with proper irradiation in several cancer cell lines. However, the precise molecular mechanism underlying its anticancer effect has not been fully defined. HA-mediated cytotoxicity and apoptosis in human lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells were evaluated after photodynamic therapy(PDT). A temporal quantitative proteomics approach by isobaric tag for relative and absolute quantitation(iTRAQ) 2 D liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometric(LC–MS/MS) was introduced to help clarify molecular cytotoxic mechanisms and identify candidate targets of HA-induced apoptotic cell death. Specific caspaseinhibitors were used to further elucidate the molecular pathway underlying apoptosis in PDT-treated A549 cells. Finally, down-stream apoptosis-related protein was evaluated. Apoptosis induced by HA was associated with cell shrinkage, externalization of cell membrane phosphatidylserine, DNA fragmentation,and mitochondrial disruption, which were preceded by increased intracellular reactive oxygen species(ROS) generations. Further studies showed that PDT treatment with 0.08 mmol/L HA resulted in mitochondrial disruption, pronounced release of cytochrome c, and activation of caspase-3,-9, and-7.Together, HA may be a possible therapeutic agent directed toward mitochondria and a promising photodynamic anticancer candidate for further evaluation.Shanshan Qi Lingyuan Guo Shuzhen Yan Robert J.Lee Shuqin Yu Shuanglin Chen 2019Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2019,9,2:12

4A Comparison of the Effects of Interannual Arctic Sea Ice Loss and ENSO on Winter Haze Days: Observational Analyses and AGCM Simulations显示文摘This study compares the impacts of interannual Arctic sea ice loss and ENSO events on winter haze days in China's Mainland through observational analyses and AGCM sensitivity experiments. The results suggest that(1) Arctic sea ice loss favors an increase in haze days in central–eastern China;(2) the impact of ENSO is overall contained within southern China, with increased(reduced) haze days during La Ni?a(El Ni?o) winters; and(3) the impacts from sea ice loss and ENSO are linearly additive. Mechanistically, Arctic sea ice loss causes quasi-barotropic positive height anomalies over the region from northern Europe to the Ural Mountains(Urals in brief) and weak and negative height anomalies over the region from central Asia to northeastern Asia. The former favors intensified frequency of the blocking over the regions from northern Europe to the Urals, whereas the latter favors an even air pressure distribution over Siberia, Mongolia, and East Asia. This large-scale circulation pattern favors more frequent occurrence of calm and steady weather in northern China and, as a consequence, increased occurrence of haze days. In comparison,La Ni?a(El Ni?o) exerts its influence along a tropical pathway by inducing a cyclonic(anticyclonic) lower-tropospheric atmospheric circulation response over the subtropical northwestern Pacific. 6Roles of various Ni species on TiO2 in enhancing photocatalytic H2 evolution显示文摘Low-cost nickels can be used as cocatalyst to improve the performance of photocatalysts,which may be promising materials applied in the field of photocatalytic water splitting.In this study,different nickel species Ni,Ni(OH)2,NiO,NiOx,and NiS are used to modified titanium dioxide(P25)to investigate their roles on the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution activities.UV-visible,X-ray diffraction(XRD),Brunner-Emmet-Teller(BET)measurements,transmission electron microscopy(TEM),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)analysis etc.are employed to characterize the physical and chemical properties of catalysts.The results indicate that all the nickel species can improve the photocatalytic hydrogen production activity of P25.The P25 modified with NiOx and NiS has more superior photocatalytic hydrogen evolution activities than those modified with other nickel species.The reason for this is that NiOx and NiS can form p-n junctions with P25 respectively.In addition,NiOx can be selectively deposited on the active sites of P25 via in situ the photodeposition method and NiS is beneficial for H+reacting with photo-excited electrons.Xiaoping CHEN Jihai XIONG Jinming SHI Song XIA Shuanglin GUI Wenfeng SHANGGUAN 2019Frontiers in Energy2019,13,4:2
7Pilomyxoid Astrocytoma in Cerebellum显示文摘Pilomyxoid astrocytoma is a new identified variant type of pilocytic astrocytoma,and typically locates in the hypothalamic and chiasmatic region.Herein,we reported a nine-year-old boy with pilomyxoid astrocytoma in the cerebellum.MRI scanning showed a tumor involved the cerebellar vermis,tonsil,the forth ventricle and brainstem.It was homogeneous isointensity on T1WI,relative hyper-intensity on T2WI,hyper-intensity on fluid attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) images,and uniform enhancement on contrast T1WI.The tumor was sub-totally removed and was proved histologically to be pilomyxoid astrocytoma.Follow-up at the 5th month,MRI showed the residual tumor enlarged at the brainstem.The patient survived 10 months after the operation,and finally died of respiration failure resulting from brainstem dysfunction.Peng-fei Ge Hai-feng Wang Li-mei Qu Bo Chen Shuanglin Fu Yinan Luo 2011Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2011,23,3:2

17Effect of process conditions on the synthesis of carbon nanotubes by catalytic decomposition of methane显示文摘A new dual-composition catalyst based on Ni-Mo/MgO with high efficiency of producing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) from methane was reported recently. In the present article, with this type of catalyst, the impact of such experimental parameters as reaction temperature, reaction time, concentration of H2, ?ow rate ratio of CH4 to H2 on yield and graphitization were investigated, leading to the following optimal growth conditions: reaction time 60 min, reaction temperature 900 ?C, CH4:H2 about 100:20 mL/min, under which high-yield multi-walled CNTs bundles were synthesized. Raman measurement indicated that the as-synthesized product was well-graphitized, and the purity was estimated over 95% by TG-DSC analysis. 19Quantifying the Response Strength of the Southern Stratospheric Polar Vortex to Indian Ocean Warming in Austral Summer显示文摘A previous multiple-AGCM study suggested that Indian Ocean Warming(IOW) tends to warm and weaken the southern polar vortex. Such an impact is robust because of a qualitative consistency among the five AGCMs used. However, a significant difference exists in the modeled strengths, particularly in the stratosphere, with those in three of the AGCMs(CCM3, CAM3, and GFS) being four to five times as strong as those in the two other models(GFDL AM2, ECHAM5). As to which case reflects reality is an important issue not only for quantifying the role of tropical ocean warming in the recent modest recovery of the ozone hole over the Antarctic, but also for projecting its future trend. This issue is addressed in the present study through comparing the models' climatological mean states and intrinsic variability, particularly those influencing tropospheric signals to propagate upward and reach the stratosphere. The results suggest that differences in intrinsic variability of model atmospheres provide implications for the difference. Based on a comparison with observations, it is speculated that the impact in the real world may be closer to the modest one simulated by GFDL AM2 and ECHAM5, rather than the strong one simulated by the three other models(CCM3, CAM3 and GFS). The algorithms used in Pandat for the calculation of liquidus projection with isothermal lines and invariant reac- tion equations in a ternary system are presented. These algorithms have been extended to multicomponent liquidus projec- tions and have also been implemented in Pandat.
