| 1 | Numerical analysis and geophysical monitoring for stability assessment of the Northwest tailings dam at Westwood Mine显示文摘The Westwood Mine aims to reuse the tailings storage facility #1(TSF #1) for solid waste storage, but,downstream of the Northwest dike is considered critical in terms of stability. This paper uses numerical modeling along with geophysical monitoring for assessing the Northwest dike stability during the restoration phase. The impact of waste rock deposition in the upstream TSF #1 is considered. The geophysical monitoring is based on electrical resistivity methods and was used to investigate the internal structure of the dike embankment in different deposition stages. The numerical simulations were performed with SLOPE/W code. The results show a factor of safety well above the minimum recommended value of 1.5. Geophysical monitoring revealed a vertical variation in the electrical resistivity across the dike, which indicates a multilayer structure of the embankment. Without any current in situ data, the geophysical monitoring helped estimating the nature of the materials used and the internal structure of the embankment. These interpretations were validated by geological observation of geotechnical log of the embankment. Based on this study, it is recommended that the water polishing pond be partly filled before waste rock is deposited in TSF #1. | 2 | Cidea controls lipid droplet fusion and lipid storage in brown and white adipose tissue显示文摘Excess lipid storage in adipose tissue results in the development of obesity and other metabolic disorders including diabetes,fatty liver and cardiovascular diseases.The lipid droplet(LD)is an important subcellular organelle responsible for lipid storage.We previously observed that Fsp27,a member of the CIDE family proteins,is localized to LD-contact sites and promotes atypical LD fusion and growth.Cidea,a close homolog of Fsp27,is expressed at high levels in brown adipose tissue.However,the exact role of Cidea in promoting LD fusion and lipid storage in adipose tissue remains unknown.Here,we expressed Cidea in Fsp27-knockdown adipocytes and observed that Cidea has similar activity to Fsp27 in promoting lipid storage and LD fusion and growth.Next,we generated Cidea and Fsp27 double-deficient mice and observed that these animals had drastically reduced adipose tissue mass and a strong lean phenotype.In addition,Cidea/Fsp27 double-deficient mice had improved insulin sensitivity and were intolerant to cold.Furthermore,we observed that the brown and white adipose tissues of Cidea/Fsp27double-deficient mice had significantly reduced lipid storage and contained smaller LDs compared to those of Cidea or Fsp27single deficient mice.Overall,these data reveal an important role of Cidea in controlling lipid droplet fusion,lipid storage in brown and white adipose tissue,and the development of obesity. | WU LiZhen ZHOU LinKang CHEN Cheng GONG JingYi XU Li YE Jing LI De LI Peng | 2014 | Science China(Life Sciences)2014,57,1: | 11 |
| 3 | Ni/Co-based metal-organic frameworks as electrode material for high performance supercapacitors显示文摘A novel bimetallic Ni/Co-based metal-organic framework(Ni/Co-MOF) was successfully synthesized via a simple solvothermal method, and used as electrode material for high performance supercapacitors. After doping of Co element, the Ni/Co-MOF materials retain the original crystalline topology structure of Ni_3(BTC)_2·12H_2O.The as-obtained Ni/Co-MOF demonstrates an excellent specific capacitance of 1067 and 780 F/g at current density of 1 and 10 A/g, respectively, and can also retain 68.4% of the original capacitance after 2500 cycles. These results suggest that bimetallic Ni/Co-based MOFs are promising materials for the next generation supercapacitance,owing to their excellent electrochemical performance.
