The infimum problem of Hilbert space effects is to find under what condition the infimum A∧B exists for two quantum effects A and B ∈ε(H). The problem has been studied in different contexts by R. Kadison, S. Gudder, M. Moreland, and T. Ando. In this note, using the method of the spectral theory of operators, we give a complete answer of the infimum problem. | 2 | Effects of Coal Rank and High Organic Sulfur on the Structure and Optical Properties of Coal-based Graphene Quantum Dots显示文摘Coal-based graphene quantum dots(GQDs) were successfully produced via a one-step chemical synthesis from six different coal ranks, from which two superhigh organic sulfur(SHOS) coals were selected as natural S-doped carbon sources for the preparation of S-doped GQDs. The effects of coal properties on coal-based GQDs were analyzed by means of high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM), X-ray diffraction(XRD), Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), ultraviolet-visible(UV-Vis) absorption spectroscopy, and fluorescence emission spectra. It was shown that all coal samples can be used to prepare GQDs, which emit bluegreen and blue fluorescence under ultraviolet light. Anthracite-based GQDs have a hexagonal crystal structure without defects, the largest size, and densely arranged carbon rings in their lamellae; the highrank bituminous coal-based GQDs are relatively reduced in size, with their hexagonal crystal structure being only faintly visible; the low-rank bituminous coal-based GQDs are the smallest, with sparse lattice fringes and visible internal defects. As the metamorphism of raw coals increases, the yield decreases and the fluorescence quantum yield(QY) initially increases and then decreases. Additionally, the surface of GQDs that were prepared using high-rank SHOS coal(high-rank bituminous coal) preserves rich sulfur content even after strong oxidation, which effectively adjusts the bandgap and improves the fluorescence QY. | 5 | Genetic variations in plant architecture traits in cotton(Gossypium hirsutum) revealed by a genomewide association study显示文摘Plant architecture traits influence crop yield. An understanding of the genetic basis of cotton plant architecture traits is beneficial for identifying favorable alleles and functional genes and breeding elite cultivars. We collected 121 cotton accessions including 100 brownfiber and 21 white-fiber accessions, genotyped them by whole-genome resequencing, and phenotyped them in multiple environments. This genome-wide association study(GWAS)identified 11 quantitative trait loci(QTL) for two plant architecture traits: plant height and fruit spur branch number. Negative-effect alleles were enriched in the elite cultivars. Based on these QTL, gene annotation information, and published QTL, candidate genes and natural genetic variations in four QTL were identified. Ghir_D02 G017510 and Ghir_D02 G017600 were identified as candidate genes for qD02-FSBN-1, and a premature start codon gain variation was found in Ghir_D02 G017510. Ghir_A12 G026570, the candidate gene of qA12-FSBN-2, belongs to the pectin lyase-like superfamily, and a significantly associated SNP, A12_105366045(T/C), in this gene represents an amino acid change. | 8 | Time-division phase modulated single-photon interference in a Sagnac interferometer显示文摘We introduce a stable, long-distance single- photon Sagnac interferometer, which has a balanced con-figuration to efficiently compensate phase drift caused by change of the fiber-optic path. By using time-division phase modulation, single-photon interference was realized at 1550 nm in a 5-km-long as well as 27-km-long Sagnac fiber loops, with a fringe visibility higher than 90% and long-term sta-bility. | 10 | The Nonlinear Bifurcation and Chaos of Coupled Heave and Pitch Motions of a Truss Spar Platform显示文摘This paper presents the results from a numerical study on the nonlinear dynamic behaviors including bifurcation and chaos of a truss spar platform. In view of the mutual influences between the heave and the pitch modes, the coupled heave and pitch motion equations of the spar platform hull were established in the regular waves. In order to analyze the nonlinear motions of the platform, three-dimensional maximum Lyapunov exponent graphs and the bifurcation graphs were constructed, the Poincaré maps and the power spectrums of the platform response were calculated. It was found that the platform motions are sensitive to wave frequency. With changing wave frequency, the platform undergoes complicated nonlinear motions, including 1/2 sub-harmonic motion, quasi-periodic motion and chaotic motion. When the wave frequency approaches the natural frequency of the heave mode of the platform, the platform moves with quasi-periodic motion and chaotic motional ternately. For a certain range of wave frequencies, the platform moves with totally chaotic motion. The range of wave frequencies which leads to chaotic motion of the platform increases with increasing wave height. | 12 | Kinetics of Solvent Blue and Reactive Yellow removal using microwave radiation in combination with nanoscale zero-valent iron显示文摘We investigated the efficiency and kinetics of the degradation of soluble dyes over the p H range 5.0–9.0 using a method employing microwave radiation in combination with nanoscale zero-valent iron(MW–n ZVI). The n ZVI particles(40–70 nm in diameter) were prepared by a liquid-phase chemical reduction method employing starch as a dispersant.Compared to the removal of Solvent Blue 36 and Reactive Yellow K-RN using only n ZVI,more rapid and efficient dye removal and total organic carbon removal were achieved using MW–n ZVI. The dye removal efficiency increased significantly with decreasing p H, but was negligibly affected by variation in the microwave power. The kinetics of dye removal by MW–n ZVI followed both an empirical equation and the pseudo first-order model, while the kinetics of dye removal using n ZVI could only be described by an empirical equation. | 17 | Quantum key distribution in 50-km optic fibers显示文摘In this paper, we report our recent experiment of long-distance fiber-optic plug and play quantum cryptography system wherein a Faraday-Mirror was used to compensate for the polarization mode dispersion and phase drifts. The pulse-biased coincident gate single-photon detection technique was used to effectively reduce the noises from the detrimental Rayleigh backscattering. We have achieved a quantum key distribution system with the working distance of 50 km, which was tested to be stable in more than 6 hours continuous work.
