1Characteristics,clinical outcomes and factors influencing mortality of patients with melioidosis in southern Thailand:a 10-year retrospective study显示文摘Objective:To study characteristics, clinical outcomes and factors influencing mortality of patients afflicted with melioidosis. Methods:A total of 134 patients were retrospectively analyzed with a microbiologically-confirmed diagnosis of melioidosis, during the period from January 2002 to June 2011 at Songklanagarind Hospital,a tertiary care hospital in southern Thailand. Results:The prevalence of melioidosis among admitted patients was 36.8 per100000 in patients. The median age was 49 years and they were predominantly male. The most common underlying disease was diabetes mellitus(47.01%).The majority of cases(50%)had localized infection. The rates of multifocal, bacteremic, and disseminated infections were12.7%.23.1%.and 14.2%.respectively.The lungs were the most common organ afflicted, resulting in infection(24.63%).Splenic abscess as well as liver abscess accounted for 20.90%and 19.40%.respectively.A total of one eighth of the patients had septic shock at presentation. The overall mortality rate was 8.96%.The factors influencing mortality were pneumonia, septic shock,a positive blood culture for Burkholderia pseudomallei.superimposing with nosocomial infection and inappropriate antibiotic administration. Conclusions:Melioidosis is not uncommon in southern Thailand. The mortality of patients with pneumonia, bacteremia and septic shock is relatively high.Appropriate antibiotics, initially, will improve outcomes.Chaitong Churuangsuk Sarunyou Chusri Thanaporn Hortiwakul Boonsri Charernmak Kachornsakdi Silpapojakul 2016Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2016,9,3:3

9Antioxidant and antiaging effect of traditional Thai rejuvenation medicines in Caenorhabditis elegans显示文摘Objective: This study explored the rejuvenation mechanisms of Thai polyherbal medicines using different approaches, including in vitro methods, as well as a well-defined nematode model, Caenorhabditis elegans. Methods: THP-R-SR012 decoction was selected from 23 polyherbal medicines, based on metal-chelating and chain-breaking antioxidant capacities. The influences of this extract on the survival and some stress biomarkers of C. elegans under paraquat-induced oxidative stress were evaluated. Furthermore, lifespan analysis and levels of lipofuscin accumulation were examined in senescent nematodes. The phytochemical profile of THP-R-SR012 was analyzed. Results: Supplementation with THP-R-SR012 decoction significantly increased the mean lifespan and reduced the oxidative damage to C. elegans under oxidative stress conditions. Further, THP-R-SR012 supplementation slightly influenced the lifespan and the level of lipofuscin accumulation during adulthood.Antioxidant-related phytochemical constituents of THP-R-SR012 decoction were rutin, naringenin, 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid, gallic acid, glycyrrhizic acid, demethoxycurcumin and 18 a-glycyrrhetinic acid. Conclusion: The antioxidant potential of THP-R-SR012 was due to its scavenging properties, its enhancement of antioxidant-related enzyme activities, and the presence of the antioxidant-related compound. These results support the traditional use of THP-R-SR012 decoction as a tonic for nourishing and strengthening the whole body.Sutticha Ruangchuay Qiang-qiang Wang Liang-yi Wang Jing Lin Yong-chao Wang Guo-huan Zhong Katesarin Maneenoon Ze-bo Huang Sasitorn Chusri 2021Journal of Integrative Medicine2021,19,4:1

20Synergistic effects of ethnomedicinal plants of Apocynaceae family and antibiotics against clinical isolates of Acinetobacter baumannii显示文摘Objective:To investigate the efficacy of 17 ethnomedicinal plants belonging to Apocynaceae family used in combination with 16 conventional antibiotics against non-multidrug resistant-,multidrug resistant(MDR)-.and extensive drug resistant(XDR) Acinetobacter baumannii(A.haumannii).Methods:Antibacterial activity and resistance modifying ability of 272combinations were determined by growth inhibition assays and further confirmed by time-kill assay. Results:Among the combinations of the antibiotics with Apocynaceae ethanol extracts on this pathogen,15(5%) had synergistic effects,23(8%) had partial synergistic effects and 234(86%) had no effects.Synergistic activity was observed mostly when the Apocynaceae extracts were combined with rifampicin or cefazolin.Interestingly.10 out of 17 combinations between the extracts and rifampicin displayed synergistic or partial synergistic behaviors.Holarrhena antidysenterica extract was additionally tested to restore rifampicin activity against clinical isolates of MDR and XDR A.haumannii.With respect to total or partial synergy,70%was XDR A.haumannii isolates and 66%was MDR A.haumannii isolates. Conclusions:Holarrhena antidysenterica extract clearly demonstrated the ability to restore rifampicin activity against both A.haumannii ATCC19606 and clinically isolated A.haumannii.Additional studies examining its active principles as well as nieclianisms of actions such as the effects on efflux pumps and outer membrane permeability alterations are recommended.Sasitorn Chusri Thanyaluck Siriyong Pinanong Na-Phatthalung Supayang Piyawan Voravuthikunchai 2014Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2014,7,6:0
