1Prolonged manganese exposure induces severe deficits in lifespan,development and reproduction possibly by altering oxidative stress response in Caenorhabditis elegans显示文摘We examined the possible multiple defects induced by acute and prolonged exposure to high levels of manganese(Mn) solution by monitoring the endpoints of lifespan,development,reproduction,and stress response.Our data suggest that acute exposure(6 h) to Mn did not cause severe defects of life span,development,and reproduction,similarly,no significant defect could be found in animals exposed to a low concentration of Mn(2.5 μmol/L) for 48 h.In contrast,prolonged exposure(48 h) to high Mn concentrations(75 and 200 μmol/L) resulted in significant defects of life span,development,and reproduction,as well as the increase of the percentage of population with hsp-16.2::gfp expression indicating the obvious induction of stress responses in exposed animals.Moreover,prolonged exposure(48 h) to high concentrations(75 and 200 μmol/L) of Mn decreased the expression levels of antioxidant genes of sod-1,sod-2,sod-3,and sod-4 compared to control.Therefore,prolonged exposure to high concentrations of Mn will induce the severe defects of life span,development,and reproduction in nematodes possibly by affecting the stress response and expression of antioxidant genes in Caenorhabditis elegans.XIAO Jing 2009Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,6:13
2The importance of aboveground and belowground interspecific interactions in determining crop growth and advantages of peanut/maize intercropping显示文摘Intercropping of maize(Zea mays L.) and peanut(Arachis hypogaea L.) often results in greater yields than the respective sole crops. However, there is limited knowledge of aboveground and belowground interspecific interactions between maize and peanut in field. A two-year field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of interspecific interactions on plant growth and grain yield for a peanut/maize intercropping system under different nitrogen(N) and phosphorus(P) levels. The method of root separation was employed to differentiate belowground from aboveground interspecific interactions. We observed that the global interspecific interaction effect on the shoot biomass of the intercropping system decreased with the coexistence period, and belowground interaction contributed more than aboveground interaction to advantages of the intercropping in terms of shoot biomass and grain yield. There was a positive effect from aboveground and belowground interspecific interactions on crop plant growth in the intercropping system, except that aboveground interaction had a negative effect on peanut during the late coexistence period. The advantage of intercropping on grain came mainly from increased maize yield(means 95%) due to aboveground interspecific competition for light and belowground interaction(61%–72% vs. 28%–39% in fertilizer treatments). There was a negative effect on grain yield from aboveground interaction for peanut, but belowground interspecific interaction positively affected peanut grain yield.The supply of N, P, or N + P increased grain yield of intercropped maize and the contribution from aboveground interspecific interaction. Our study suggests that the advantages of peanut/maize intercropping for yield mainly comes from aboveground interspecific competition for maize and belowground interspecific facilitation for peanut, and their respective yield can be enhanced by N and P. 3Seasonal variation of surface currents in the southwestern Taiwan Strait observed with HF radar显示文摘Long-term measurements from a pair of High-Frequency radar systems deployed near the coast of southern Fujian Province showed that surface currents in the southwestern Taiwan Strait were com-posed mainly of the monsoon-driven, seasonal fluctuation of longshore current and a persistent northeastward background flow with speeds around 10 cm/s. 4Number of Species and Geographical Distribution of Diospyros L.(Ebenaceae) in China显示文摘Diospyros L. is the largest, most widely distributed, and economically important genus of the family Ebenaceae. However, various researchers disagree on the number of species and geographical distribution of Diospyros in China. For the purpose of providing a scientific basis for the effective protection and rational use of Diospyros, the present study involved a comprehensive review of the literature, electronic databases, and herbaria as well as field investigations. The results showed as the following.(1) While 174 scientific names have been published for various taxa of Diospyros in China, by screening and excluding synonyms, 65 species names were considered acceptable; these account for about 12%of the total species of Diospyros globally.(2) A review of herbarium specimens documented that Diospyros occurs in 28 administrative regions of China, more than the literature records. Species richness decreases from south to north in China while Guangxi, Yunnan, Guangdong, and Hainan have the greatest number of species.(3) Among the 65 relatively reliable Diospyros species, 45 species are endemic to China and 18 species are stenochoric. Some species may have become extinct as a result of environmental degradation and the status of some germplasm remain unresolved. In brief, Chinese Diospyros includes abundant, China-specific, and widely distributed features. 5Point attention network for point cloud semantic segmentation显示文摘We address the point cloud semantic segmentation problem through modeling long-range dependencies based on the self-attention mechanism.Existing semantic segmentation models generally focus on local feature aggregation.By comparison,we propose a point attention network(PA-Net)to selectively extract local features with long-range dependencies.We specially devise two complementary attention modules for the point cloud semantic segmentation task.The attention modules adaptively integrate the semantic inter-dependencies with long-range dependencies.Our point attention module adaptively integrates local features of the last layer of the encoder with a weighted sum of the long-range dependency features.Regardless of the distance of similar features,they are all correlated with each other.Meanwhile,the feature attention module adaptively integrates inter-dependent feature maps among all local features in the last layer of the encoder.Extensive results prove that our two attention modules together improve the performance of semantic segmentation on point clouds.We achieve better semantic segmentation performance on two benchmark point cloud datasets(i.e.,S3DIS and Scan Net).Particularly,the Io U on 11 semantic categories of S3DIS is significantly boosted.Dayong REN Zhengyi WU Jiawei LI Piaopiao YU Jie GUO Mingqiang WEI Yanwen GUO 2022Science China(Information Sciences)2022,65,9:2

9Seasonal and interannual variations of surface current in the southern Taiwan Strait to the west of Taiwan Shoals显示文摘Seasonal and interannual variations of surface currents in the southern Taiwan Strait to the west of Taiwan Shoals were investigated by using measurements of high frequency(HF)ground wave radars from January 2006 to April 2009.The results demonstrate that surface currents in the water channel to the west of Taiwan Shoals are composed of a significant,seasonally fluctuating component and a relatively stable northward component.Forced by the East Asia monsoon,the annual variation of the surface longshore current is linearly correlated with the longshore wind.Behind the seasonal signal is a stable northward flow with speeds of O(10 cm/s).The observations also show that surface currents in the area are subject to distinct interannual variation,and the southward surface flow was more profound in winter 2007/2008 than in other winters.Observations from bottom-mounted ADCP also indicated that,in that winter,longshore currents in the west side of the Taiwan Strait are very different from the previous winter.The northward flow appeared much weaker,the currents were southward in most layers,and the interannual differences were observed throughout the water column.Hydrographic observations in the same period suggest that the large-scale southward intrusion of the Zhe-Min coastal water is the direct cause of the interannual difference.The enhancement of the East Asian monsoon during the 2007/2008 La Ni a event is considered as the main reason for the winter current anomalies in the study area.ZHU DaYong LI Li GUO XiaoGang 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,33:1

15A Programmable Hybrid DNA Nanogel for Enhanced Photodynamic Therapy of Hypoxic Glioma显示文摘Photodynamic therapy(PDT)is a promising cancer therapy due to the evident advantages of a rapid curative eff ect,minimal or non-invasiveness,and circumvention of drug resistance.However,the hydrophobicity of photosensitizers and the hypoxic tumor microenvironment in solid tumors reduce the therapeutic eff ect of PDT immensely.Herein,we construct a programmable hybrid mesoporous silica nanoparticle/DNA nanogel(H-DNA nanogel)for enhanced PDT.The H-DNA nanogel is constituted with a virus-like mesoporous silica nanoparticle(VMSN)as the core to provide an appropriate nano-interface and a self-assembly programmable DNA hydrogel layer based on rolling circle amplifi cation(RCA)as the shell.Two kinds of G-quadruplex structures inserted with a hemin and zinc phthalocyanine(ZnPc)photosensitizer are introduced into the H-DNA nanogel by base pairing.The two modules of G-quadruplex structure work as an oxygen supplement in the hypoxic tumor microenvironment and increase the yield of singlet oxygen,respectively.Our hybrid DNA nanogel system provides a modular platform for effi cient cancer PDT and has great potential in the broader biomedical fi eld.Ye Yuan Huiting Zhao Yunhua Guo Jianpu Tang Chunxia Liu Linghui Li Chi Yao Dayong Yang 2020Transactions of Tianjin University2020,26,6:1
16Preparation of biomimetic gene hydrogel via polymerase chain reaction for cell-free protein expression显示文摘Deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA)hydrogels,a three-dimensional(3 D)network made from DNA chains,have attracted great attention because of its molecular programmability,excellent biocompatibility and wide biomedical applications.Construction of hydrogel incorporating genetic function is still a challenge because of the limitations in available preparation methods.Herein,we develop a polymerase chain reaction(PCR)based strategy to construct gene integrated hydrogel to mimic the biofunction of nucleus zone.DNA primers were chemically modified by methacrylamide,which were used as modular primers in PCR to hybridize with template plasmid DNA,yielding methacrylamide functionalized gene(Acry-gene).Afterwards,Acry-gene was chemically cross-linked and compressed via free radical polymerization of terminal group methacrylamide to form a threedimensional gene network,namely gene hydrogel.The gene hydrogel retained the genetic function and expressed protein successfully in a cell free protein expression system.This work provides a general approach for the construction of biofunctional gene hydrogel which mimics bioprocesses,showing great potential in biomedicine and biomimetic fields.Feng Li Wenting Yu Xue Zhang Xiaocui Guo Xihan Xu Xiaolei Sun Dayong Yang 2020Science China Chemistry2020,63,1:1

20SiO_2 glasses synthesized at 355—445℃ and 2.0—5.5 GPa显示文摘A series of SiO2 glasses were synthesized by using spectroscopically pure silica on the YJ-3000 multi-anvil apparatus at 355—445℃ and 2.0—5.5GPa. Their spectroscopic characteristics resemble that of the high-density quartz glass. In the meantime, the IR spectra of SiO2 glasses show that a small amount of water exists in SiO2 glasses in the form of OH-.
