| 1 | Dextran sodium sulfate colitis murine model: An indispensable tool for advancing our understanding of inflammatory bowel diseases pathogenesis显示文摘Inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD),including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis,are complex diseases that result from the chronic dysregulated immune response in the gastrointestinal tract. The exact etiology is not fully understood,but it is accepted that it occurs when an inappropriate aggressive inflammatory respon-se in a genetically susceptible host due to inciting environmental factors occurs. To investigate the path-ogenesis and etiology of human IBD,various animal models of IBD have been developed that provided indispensable insights into the histopathological and morphological changes as well as factors associated with the pathogenesis of IBD and evaluation of therapeutic options in the last few decades. The most widely used experimental model employs dextran sodium sulfate(DSS) to induce epithelial damage. The DSS colitis model in IBD research has advantages over other various chemically induced experimental models due to its rapidity,simplicity,reproducibility and controllability. | 2 | Effect of drainage on CO_2, CH_4, and N_2O fluxes from aquaculture ponds during winter in a subtropical estuary of China显示文摘Aquaculture ponds are dominant features of the landscape in the coastal zone of China.Generally,aquaculture ponds are drained during the non-culture period in winter.However,the effects of such drainage on the production and flux of greenhouse gases(GHGs)from aquaculture ponds are largely unknown.In the present study,field-based research was performed to compare the GHG fluxes between one drained pond(DP,with a water depth of 0.05 m)and one undrained pond(UDP,with a water depth of 1.16 m)during one winter in the Min River estuary of southeast China.Over the entire study period,the mean CO_2flux in the DP was(0.75±0.12)mmol/(m^2·hr),which was significantly higher than that in the UDP of(-0.49±0.09)mmol/(m^2·hr)(p<0.01).This indicates that drainage drastically transforms aquaculture ponds from a net sink to a net source of CO_2in winter.Mean CH_4and N_2O emissions were significantly higher in the DP compared to those in the UDP(CH_4=(0.66±0.31)vs.(0.07±0.06)mmol/(m^2·hr)and N_2O=(19.54±2.08)vs.(0.01±0.04)μmol/(m^2·hr))(p<0.01),suggesting that drainage would also significantly enhance CH_4and N_2O emissions.Changes in environmental variables(including sediment temperature,p H,salinity,redox status,and water depth)contributed significantly to the enhanced GHG emissions following pond drainage.Furthermore,analysis of the sustained-flux global warming and cooling potentials indicated that the combined global warming potentials of the GHG fluxes were significantly higher in the DP than in the UDP(p<0.01),with values of739.18 and 26.46 mg CO_2-eq/(m^2·hr),respectively.Our findings suggested that drainage of aquaculture ponds can increase the emissions of potent GHGs from the coastal zone of China to the atmosphere during winter,further aggravating the problem of global warming. | Ping Yang Derrick Y.F Lai Jia F.Huang Chuan Tong | 2018 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2018,30,3: | 12 |
| 3 | A Survey of Downlink Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access for 5G Wireless Communication Networks显示文摘Non-orthogonal multiple access(NOMA) has been recognized as a promising multiple access technique for the next generation cellular communication networks. In this paper, we first discuss a simple NOMA model with two users served by a single-carrier simultaneously to illustrate its basic principles. Then, a more general model with multicarrier serving an arbitrary number of users on each subcarrier is also discussed. An overview of existing works on performance analysis, resource allocation, and multiple-in-put multiple-output NOMA are summarized and discussed. | 4 | Changes in Soil Organic Carbon Dynamics in a Native C4 Plant-Dominated Tidal Marsh Following Spartina alterniflora Invasion显示文摘Invasion of an exotic C_4 plant Spartina alterniflora has been shown to increase soil organic carbon(SOC) concentrations in native C_3 plant-dominated coastal wetlands of China. However, little is known about the effects of S. alterniflora invasion on SOC concentrations and fractions in tidal marshes dominated by native C_4 plants. In this study, a field experiment was conducted in a tidal marsh dominated by the native C_4 plant Cyperus malaccensis in the Minjiang River estuary, China. Concentrations of SOC and liable SOC fractions, dissolved organic carbon(DOC), microbial biomass carbon(MBC), and easily oxidizable carbon(EOC),were measured in the top 50-cm soils of the C. malaccensis community, as well as those of three S. alterniflora communities with an invasion duration of 0–4 years(SA-4), 4–8 years(SA-8), and 8–12 years(SA-12), respectively. Results showed that both SOC stocks in the 50-cm soils and mean SOC concentrations in the surface soils(0–10 cm) of the C. malaccensis community increased with the duration of S. alterniflora invasion, whereas SOC concentrations in the 10–50-cm soils decreased slightly during the initial period of S. alterniflora invasion, before increasing again. The pattern of changes in labile SOC fractions(DOC, MBC, and EOC) with invasion duration was generally similar to that of SOC, while the ratios of labile SOC fractions to total SOC(DOC:SOC, MBC:SOC, and EOC:SOC) decreased significantly with the duration of S. alterniflora invasion. | 7 | Spatial variations in CO2 fluxes in a subtropical coastal reservoir of Southeast China were related to urbanization and land-use types显示文摘Carbon dioxide(CO_(2))emissions from aquatic ecosystems are important components of the global carbon cycle,yet the CO_(2)emissions from coastal reservoirs,especially in developing countries where urbanization and rapid land use change occur,are still poorly understood.In this study,the spatiotemporal variations in CO_(2)concentrations and fluxes were investigated in Wenwusha Reservoir located in the southeast coast of China.Overall,the mean CO_(2)concentration and flux across the whole reservoir were 41.85±2.03μmol/L and 2.87±0.29 mmol/m2/h,respectively,and the reservoir was a consistent net CO_(2)source over the entire year.The land use types and urbanization levels in the reservoir catchment significantly affected the input of exogenous carbon towater.The mean CO_(2)fluxwasmuch higher from waters adjacent to the urban land(5.05±0.87 mmol/m2/hr)than other land use types.Sites with larger input of exogenous substance via sewage discharge and upstream runoff were often the hotspots of CO_(2)emission in the reservoir.Our results suggested that urbanization process,agricultural activities,and large input of exogenous carbon could result in large spatial heterogeneity of CO_(2)emissions and alter the CO_(2)biogeochemical cycling in coastal reservoirs.Further studies should characterize the diurnal variations,microbial mechanisms,and impact of meteorological conditions on reservoir CO_(2)emissions to expand our understanding of the carbon cycle in aquatic ecosystems. | Yifei Zhang Min Lyu Ping Yang Derrick Y.F.Lai Chuan Tong Guanghui Zhao Ling Li Yuhan Zhang Hong Yang | 2021 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,11: | 4 |

| 9 | Spontaneous intramural duodenal hematoma in type 2B von Willebrand disease显示文摘Intramural duodenal hematoma is a rare cause of a proximal gastrointestinal tract obstruction.Presentation of intramural duodenal hematoma most often occurs following blunt abdominal trauma in children,but spontaneous non-traumatic cases have been linked to anticoagulant therapy,pancreatitis,malignancy,vasculitis and endoscopy.We report an unusual case of spontaneous intramural duodenal hematoma presenting as an intestinal obstruction associated with acute pancreatitis in a patient with established von Willebrand disease,type 2B.The patient presented with abrupt onset of abdominal pain,nausea,and vomiting.Computed tomography imaging identified an intramural duodenal mass consistent with blood measuring 4.7 cm×8.7 cm in the second portion of the duodenum abutting on the head of the pancreas.Serum lipase was 3828 units/L.Patient was managed conservatively with bowel rest,continuous nasogastric decompression,total parenteral nutrition,recombinant factorⅧ(humateP)and transfusion.Symptoms resolved over the course of the hospitalization.This case highlights an important complication of an inherited coagulopathy. | Derrick D Eichele Meredith Ross Patrick Tang Grant F Hutchins Mark Mailliard | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,41: | 3 |

| 15 | Molecular evolution of Na^(+) channels in teleost fishes显示文摘Voltage-dependent sodium channels are critical for electrical excitability.Invertebrates possess a single sodium channel gene;two rounds of genome duplication early in vertebrates increased the number to four.Since the teleost-tetrapod split,independent gene duplications in each lineage have further increased the number of sodium channel genes to 10 in tetrapods and 8 in teleosts.Here we review how the occurrence of multiple sodium channel paralogs has influenced the evolutionary history of three groups of fishes:pufferfish,gymnotiform and mor-myriform electric fish.Pufferfish(tetraodontidae)produce a neurotoxin,tetrodotoxin,that binds to and blocks the pore of sodium channels.Pufferfish evolved resistance to their own toxins by amino acid substitutions in the pore of their sodium channels.These substitutions had to occur in parallel across multiple paralogs for organismal re-sistance to evolve.Gymnotiform and mormyriform fishes independently evolved electric organs to generate elec-tricity for communication and object localization.Two sodium channel genes are expressed in muscle in most fishes.In both groups of weakly electric fishes,one gene lost its expression in muscle and became compartmen-talized in the evolutionary novel electric organ,which is a muscle derivative.This gene then evolved at elevated rates,whereas the gene that is still expressed in muscle does not show elevated rates of evolution.In the electric organ-expressing gene,amino acid substitutions occur in parts of the channel involved in determining how long the channel will be open or closed.The enhanced rate of sequence evolution of this gene likely underlies the spe-cies-level variations in the electric signal. | Harold H.ZAKON Manda C.JOST Derrick J.ZWICKL Ying LU David M.HILLIS | 2009 | Integrative Zoology2009,4,1: | 2 |
