Seasonal and diurnal variations of atmospheric peroxyacetyl nitrate, peroxypropionyl nitrate, and carbon tetrachloride in Beijing显示文摘Atmospheric peroxyacetyl nitrate(PAN), peroxypropionyl nitrate(PPN), and carbon tetrachloride(CCl4) were measured from September 2010 to August 2011 in Beijing. PAN exhibited low values from mid-autumn to early spring(October to March) with monthly average concentrations ranging from 0.28 to 0.73 ppbV, and increased from early spring to summer(March to August), ranging from 1.37–3.79 ppbV. The monthly variation of PPN was similar to PAN, with low values(below detection limit to 0.18 ppbV) from mid-autumn to early spring, and a monthly maximum in September(1.14 ppbV). The monthly variation of CCl4was tightly related to the variation of temperature, exhibiting a minimum in winter(69.3 pptV) and a maximum of 180.6 pptV in summer. Due to weak solar intensity and short duration, PAN and O3showed no distinct diurnal patterns from morning to night during winter, whereas for other seasons, they both exhibited maximal values in the late afternoon(ca. 15:00 to 16:00 local time) and minimal values during early morning and midnight. Good linear correlations between PAN and PPN were found in autumn(R = 0.91), spring(R = 0.94), and summer(R = 0.81), with slopes of 0.130, 0.222, and 0.133, respectively, suggesting that anthropogenic hydrocarbons dominated the photochemical formation of PANs in Beijing. Positive correlation between PAN and O3 in summer with the low slopes( O3 / PAN) ranging from 9.92 to 18.0 indicated serious air pollution in Beijing, and strong negative correlation in winter reflected strong O3consumption by NO titration and less thermal decompositin of PAN. | Gen Zhang Yujing Mu Junfeng Liu Chenglong Zhang Yuanyuan Zhang Yujie Zhang Hongxing Zhang | 2014 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2014,26,1: | 11
Wolbachia infection dynamics by reaction-diffusion equations显示文摘Dengue fever is caused by the dengue virus and transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes.A promising avenue for eradicating the disease is to infect the wild aedes population with the bacterium Wolbachia driven by cytoplasmic incompatibility(CI).When releasing Wolbachia infected mosquitoes for population replacement,it is essential to not ignore the spatial inhomogeneity of wild mosquito distribution. In this paper,we develop a model of reaction-diffusion system to investigate the infection dynamics in natural areas, under the assumptions supported by recent experiments such as perfect maternal transmission and complete CI.We prove non-existence of inhomogeneous steady-states when one of the diffusion coefficients is sufficiently large, and classify local stability for constant steady states. It is seen that diffusion does not change the criteria for the local stabilities. Our major concern is to determine the minimum infection frequency above which Wolbachia can spread into the whole population of mosquitoes. We find that diffusion drives the minimum frequency slightly higher in general. However, the minimum remains zero when Wolbachia infection brings overwhelming fitness benefit. In the special case when the infection does not alter the longevity of mosquitoes but reduces the birth rate by half, diffusion has no impact on the minimum frequency. | HUANG Mu Gen TANG Mo Xun YU Jian She | 2015 | Science China Mathematics2015,58,1: | 8
Qualitative analysis for a Wolbachia infection model with diffusion显示文摘We consider a reaction-diffusion model which describes the spatial Wolbachia spread dynamics for a mixed population of infected and uninfected mosquitoes. By using linearization method, comparison principle and Leray-Schauder degree theory, we investigate the influence of diffusion on the Wolbachia infection dynamics. After identifying the system parameter regions in which diffusion alters the local stability of constant steadystates, we find sufficient conditions under which the system possesses inhomogeneous steady-states. Surprisingly, our mathematical analysis, with the help of numerical simulations, indicates that diffusion is able to lower the threshold value of the infection frequency over which Wolbachia can invade the whole population. | HUANG Mu Gen YU Jian She HU Lin Chao ZHENG Bo | 2016 | Science China Mathematics2016,59,7: | 6
Serious BTEX pollution in rural area of the North China Plain during winter season显示文摘Atmospheric BTEX compounds(benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes) in a rural site of the North China Plain(NCP) were preliminarily investigated in winter, and the outdoor concentrations(25.8–236.0 μg/m3) were found to be much higher than those reported in urban regions. The pollution of BTEX inside a farmer's house was even more serious, with combined concentrations of 254.5–1552.9 μg/m3. Based on the ratio of benzene to toluene(1.17 ± 0.34) measured, the serious BTEX pollution in the rural site was mainly ascribed to domestic coal combustion for heating during the winter season. With the enhancement of farmers' incomes in recent years, coal consumption by farmers in the NCP is rapidly increasing to keep their houses warm, and hence the serious air pollution in rural areas of the NCP during winter, including BTEX, should be paid great attention. | Kankan Liu Chenglong Zhang Ye Cheng Chengtang Liu Hongxing Zhang Gen Zhang Xu Sun Yujing Mu | 2015 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2015,27,4: | 2
A Node Splitting Interface Algorithm for Multi-rate Parallel Simulation of DC Grids显示文摘With wider applications of power electronic devices in modern power systems, simulation using traditional electro-mechanical and electromagnetic simulation tools suffer from low speed and imprecision.Multi-rate technologies can greatly improve simulation efficiency by avoiding simulating the entire system using a small time-step.However,the drawbacks of the current synchronization mechanisms is that they introduce numerical errors and numerical instabilities in multi-rate parallel simulations. An improved multi-rate parallel technology, node splitting interface(NSI),is proposed to reduce errors and enhance simulation stability.A new synchronization mechanism is used to avoid prediction and signal delays.Theoretical analyses are carried out to prove the convergence and absolute stability of the proposed NSI algorithm. This algorithm is particularly suitable for simultaneously investigating long term dynamics of DC grids and fast transients of power electronic converters. | Qing Mu Jun Liang Xiaoxin Zhou Gen Li Xing Zhang | 2018 | CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems2018,4,3: | 1

Collagen fiber anisotropy characterization by polarized photoacoustic imaging for just-in-time quantitative evaluation of burn severity显示文摘Just-in-time burn severity assessment plays a vital role in burn treatment and care. However,it is still difficult to quantitatively and promptly evaluate burn severity by existing medical imaging methods via initial burn depth measurement since burn wounds are usually dynamically developed. As an elastic skeleton of skin, the degree of conformational changes of collagen fibers caused by overheating can reflect the burn severity in a timelier manner.Herein, the polarized photoacoustic technique(PPAT)for just-in-time quantitative evaluation of burn severity via collagen fiber anisotropy assessment is proposed.First, phantom experiments demonstrate the ability of PPAT for deep imaging in a transport mean free path and accurately quantify changes in microstructural order by thermal damage. Then, the Pearson correlation coefficient of the PPAT in assessing burn severity is shown to be up to 0.95,validated by burn skin samples. The PPAT provides a just-in-time quantitative strategy for burn severity evaluation. | ZHENHUI ZHANG WEI CHEN DANDAN CUI JIE MI GEN MU LIMING NIE SIHUA YANG YUJIAO SHI | 2023 | Photonics Research2023,11,5: | 0

Aeolian activity in the southern Gurbantunggut Desert of China during the last 900 years显示文摘The mineral dust emitted from Central Asia has a significant influence on the global climate system. However, the history and mechanisms of aeolian activity in Central Asia remain unclear, due to the lack of well-dated records of aeolian activity and the intense wind erosion in some of the dust source areas(e.g.,deserts).Here,we present the records of aeolian activity from a sedimentary sequence in the southern Gurbantunggut Desert of China using grain size analysis and optically stimulated luminescence(OSL)dating, based on field sampling in 2019.Specifically,we used eight OSL dates to construct chronological frameworks and applied the end-member(EM)analysis for the grain size data to extract the information of aeolian activity in the southern Gurbantunggut Desert during the last 900 a.The results show that the grain size dataset can be subdivided into three EMs(EM1,EM2,and EM3).The primary modal sizes of these EMs(EM1,EM2,and EM3)are 126.00,178.00,and 283.00μm,respectively.EM1 represents a mixture of the suspension components and saltation dust, while EM2 and EM3 show saltation dust transported over a shorter distance via strengthened near-surface winds, which can be used to trace aeolian activity.Combined with the OSL chronology, our results demonstrate that during the last 900 a,more intensive and frequent aeolian activity occurred during 450-100 a BP(Before Present)(i.e.,the Little Ice Age(LIA)),which was reflected by a higher proportion of the coarse-grained components(EM2+EM3).Aeolian activity decreased during 900-450 a BP(i.e.,the Medieval Warm Period(MWP))and 100 a BP-present(i.e.,the Current Warm Period(CWP)).Intensified aeolian activity was associated with the strengthening of the Siberian High and cooling events at high northern latitudes. We propose that the Siberian High, under the influence of temperature changes at high northern latitudes, controlled the frequency and intensity of aeolian activity in Central Asia.Cooling at high northern latitudes would have significantly enhanced the Siberian High, causing its position to shift southward.Subsequently, the incursion of cold air masses from high northern latitudes resulted in stronger wind regimes and increased dust emissions from the southern Gurbantunggut Desert. It is possible that aeolian activity may be weakened in Central Asia under future global warming scenarios, but the impact of human activities on this region must also be considered. | LI Wen MU Guijin YE Changsheng XU Lishuai LI Gen | 2023 | Journal of Arid Land2023,15,6: | 0
