| 1 | Multivariate analysis and geochemical investigations of groundwater in a semi-arid region, case of superficial aquifer in Ghriss Basin, Northwest Algeria显示文摘This study aims to investigate the hydrochemical characteristics of shallow aquifer in a semi-arid region situated in northwest Algeria,and to understand the major factors governing groundwater quality.The study area is suffering from recurring droughts,groundwater resource over-exploitation and groundwater quality degradation.The approach used is a combination of traditional hydrochemical analysis methods of multivariate statistical techniques,principal component analysis(PCA),and ratios of major ions,based on the data derived from 33 groundwater samples collected in February 2014.Results show that groundwater in the study area are highly mineralized and collectively has a high concentration of chloride(as Cl^(−)).The dominant water types are Na-Cl(27%),Mg-HCO_(3)(24%)and Mg-Cl(24%).According to the(PCA)approach,salinization is the main process that controls the hydrochemical variability.The PCA analysis reveal the impact of anthropogenic factor especially the agricultural activities on the groundwater quality.The PCA highlighted two types of recharge:Superficial recharge from effective rainfall and excess irrigation water distinguished by the presence of nitrate and lateral recharge or vertical leakage from carbonate formations marked by the omnipresence of HCO_(3)^(−).Additionally,three categories of samples were identified:(1)samples characterized by good water quality and receiving notable recharge from carbonate formations;(2)samples impacted by the natural salinization process;and(3)samples contaminated by anthropogenic activities.The major natural processes influencing water chemistry are the weathering of carbonate and silicate rocks,dissolution of evaporite as halite,evaporation and cation exchange.The study results can provide the basis for local decision makers to ensure the sustainable management of groundwater and the safety of drinking water. | Laouni Benadela Belkacem Bekkoussa Laouni Gaidi | 2022 | Journal of Groundwater Science and Engineering2022,10,3: | 2 |

| 18 | Enhanced photocatalytic activities of silicon nanowires/graphene oxide nanocomposite:Effect of etching parameters显示文摘Homogeneous and vertically aligned silicon nanowires(SiNWs)were successfully fabricated using silver assisted chemical etching technique.The prepared samples were characterized using scanning electron microscopy,transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy.Photocatalytic degradation properties of graphene oxide(GO)modified SiNWs have been investigated.We found that the SiNWs morphology depends on etching time and etchant composition.The SiNWs length could be tuned from 1 to 42μm,respectively when varying the etching time from 5 to 30 min.The etchant concentration was found to accelerate the etching process;doubling the concentrations increases the length of the SiNWs by a factor of two for fixed etching time.Changes in bundle morphology were also studied as function of etching parameters.The SiNWs diameter was found to be independent of etching time or etchant composition while the size of the SiNWs bundle increases with increasing etching time and etchant concentration.The addition of GO was found to improve significantly the photocatalytic activity of SiNWs.A strong correlation between etching parameters and photocatalysis efficiency has been observed,mainly for SiNWs prepared at optimum etching time and etchant concentrations of 10 min and 4:1:8.A degradation of92%was obtained which further improved to 96%by addition of hydrogen peroxide.Only degradation efficiency of 16%and 31%has been observed for bare Si and GO/bare Si samples respectively.The obtained results demonstrate that the developed SiNWs/GO composite exhibits excellent photocatalytic performance and could be used as potential platform for the degradation of organic pollutants. | Mounir Gaidi Kais Daoudi Soumya Columbus Anouar Hajjaji My Ali El Khakani Brahim Bessais | 2021 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,3: | 1 |
