Coronary artery aneurysm:A review显示文摘Coronary artery aneurysm(CAA)is a clinical entity defined by a focal enlargement of the coronary artery exceeding the 1.5-fold diameter of the adjacent normal segment.Atherosclerosis is the main cause in adults and Kawasaki disease in children.CAA is a silent progressive disorder incidentally detected by coronary angiography, but it may end with fatal complications such as rupture, compression of adjacent cardiopulmonary structures, thrombus formation and distal embolization. The pathophysiological mechanisms are not well understood.Atherosclerosis, proteolytic imbalance and inflammatory reaction are involved in aneurysmal formation.Data from previously published studies are scarce and controversial, thereby the management of CAA is individualized depending on clinical presentation,CAA characteristics, patient profile and physician experience.Multiple therapeutic approaches including medical treatment, covered stent angioplasty, coil insertion and surgery were described.Herein,we provide an up-to-date systematic review on the pathophysiology, complications and management of CAA. | Anthony Georges Matta Nabil Yaacoub Vanessa Nader Nicolas Moussallem Didier Carrie Jerome Roncalli | 2021 | World Journal of Cardiology2021,13,9: | 2

Chemotherapy advances in locally advanced head and neck cancer显示文摘The management of locally advanced unresectable head and neck squamous cell cancer(HNSCC) continues to improve. One of the major advances in the treatment of HNSCC was the addition of chemotherapy to radiation in the treatment of non-surgical patients. The majority of the data regarding chemotherapy in HNSCC involve cisplatin chemotherapy with concurrent radiation. However, several new approaches have included targeted therapy against epidermal growth factor receptor and several recent studies have explored the role of induction chemotherapy in the treatment of HNSCC. The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of the role of chemotherapy in the treatment of locally advanced HNSCC. | Peter Georges Kumar Rajagopalan Chady Leon Priya Singh Nadir Ahmad Kamyar Nader Gregory J Kubicek | 2014 | World Journal of Clinical Oncology2014,5,5: | 1

Sensory characterization of bowel cleansing solutions显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the sensory characteristics of commercial bowel cleansing preparations.METHODS: Samples of 4 commercially available bowel cleansing preparations, namely polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution(PEG), PEG + ascorbic acid(PEG-Asc), sodium picosulfate(SPS), and oral sodium sulfate(OSS) were prepared according to the manufacturer's instructions. Descriptive analysis was conducted(n = 14) using a 15-cm line scale with the Compusense at-hand? sensory evaluation software. Acceptability testing(n = 80) was conducted using the 9-point hedonic scale. In addition, a Just-About-Right(JAR) scale was included for the four basic tastes to determine their intensity compatibility with acceptability levels in the products.RESULTS: Samples were significantly different, in descriptive analysis, for all attributes(P < 0.05) except for sweetness. SPS received the highest ratings for turbidity, viscosity appearance, orange odor and orange flavor; PEG-Asc for citrus odor and citrus flavor; OSS for sweetener taste, sweet aftertaste, bitterness, astringency, mouthcoating, bitter aftertaste and throatburn, and along with PEG-Asc, the highest ratings for saltiness, sourness and adhesiveness. Acceptability results showedsignificant differences between the various samples(P < 0.05). SPS received significantly higher ratings for overall acceptability, acceptability of taste, odor and mouthfeel(P < 0.05). JAR ratings showed that PEG and PEG-Asc were perceived as slightly too salty; SPS and OSS were slightly too sweet, while SPS, PEG-Asc and OSS were slightly too sour and OSS slightly too bitter. While using small sample volumes was necessary to avoid unwanted purgative effects, acceptability ratings do not reflect the true effect of large volumes intake thus limiting the generalization of the results.CONCLUSION: Further improvements are needed to enhance the sensory profile and to optimize the acceptability for better compliance with these bowel cleansing solutions. | Ala I Sharara Hamza Daroub Camille Georges Rani Shayto Ralph Nader Jean Chalhoub Ammar Olabi | 2016 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy2016,8,15: | 1
Engineering Nano/Microscale Chiral Self‑Assembly in 3D Printed Constructs显示文摘Helical hierarchy found in biomolecules like cellulose, chitin, and collagen underpins the remarkable mechanical strength and vibrant colors observed in living organisms. This study advances the integration of helical/chiral assembly and 3D printing technology, providing precise spatial control over chiral nano/microstructures of rod-shaped colloidal nanoparticles in intricate geometries. We designed reactive chiral inks based on cellulose nanocrystal(CNC)suspensions and acrylamide monomers, enabling the chiral assembly at nano/microscale,beyond the resolution seen in printed materials. We employed a range of complementary techniques including Orthogonal Superposition rheometry and in situ rheo-optic measurements under steady shear rate conditions. These techniques help us to understand the nature of the nonlinear flow behavior of the chiral inks, and directly probe the flow-induced microstructural dynamics and phase transitions at constant shear rates,as well as their post-flow relaxation.Furthermore,we analyzed the photo-curing process to identify key parameters affecting gelation kinetics and structural integrity of the printed object within the supporting bath. These insights into the interplay between the chiral inks self-assembly dynamics,3D printing flow kinematics and photopolymerization kinetics provide a roadmap to direct the out-of-equilibrium arrangement of CNC particles in the 3D printed filaments, ranging from uniform nematic to 3D concentric chiral structures with controlled pitch length,as well as random orientation of chiral domains. Our biomimetic approach can pave the way for the creation of materials with superior mechanical properties or programable photonic responses that arise from 3D nano/microstructure and can be translated into larger scale 3D printed designs. | Mohsen Esmaeili Ehsan Akbari Kyle George Gelareh Rezvan Nader Taheri‑Qazvini Monirosadat Sadati | 2024 | Nano-Micro Letters2024,16,3: | 0
Improving efficiency and saving money in an otolaryngology urgent referral clinic显示文摘A closed loop audit of the ear nose and throat(ENT) urgent referral clinic at a London hospital was conducted assessing the number of patients reviewed, referral source, appropriateness of referral, presenting complaint and assigned follow-up appointments. Data was sourced from clinic letters and the patient appointment system over a 3-mo period. The initial cycle analysed 490 patients and the subsequent cycle 396. The initial audit yielded clinically relevant and cost effective recommendations which were implemented, and the audit cycle was subsequently repeated. The reaudit demonstrated decreased clinic numbers from an average 9.8 to 7.2 patients per clinic, in keeping with ENT United Kingdom guidelines. A 21% decrease in patient follow-up and 13% decrease in inappropriate referrals was achieved. Direct bookings into outpatient clinics decreased by 8%, due to correct referral pathway utilisation. Comparisons of all data sets were found to show statistical significance P < 0.05. We reported a total financial saving of £32490 in a period of 3 mo(£590 per clinic). We demonstrated that simple guidelines, supervision and consultant-led education which are nonlabour intensive can have a significant impact on service provision and cost. | Nader Ibrahim Jagdeep Virk Jason George Behrad Elmiyeh Arvind Singh | 2015 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2015,3,6: | 0
