Policy and Practice Progress of Watershed Eco-compensation in China显示文摘The ecological protection of the watersheds in China is being confronted with a lot of problems such as soil and water erosion, water pollution at present. Therefore watershed eco-compensation is becoming a question of common interest. Based on the analyses of the major problems and their origins in the watershed protection in China, the paper discusses the concerned policies including relative rules and laws, financial policies and water right transaction policies. Simultaneously the paper reviews the practices carried out in China, including the ecological construction project in the western China, the trans-provincial eco-compensation practice and the small watershed eco-compensation practice. According to the present situation of eco-compensation practices and the future policy requirement, this paper finally puts forward four key problems to be solved in the watershed eco-compensation of China in the future.ZHANG Huiyuan LIU Guihuan WANG Jinnan WAN Jun 2007Chinese Geographical Science2007,17,2:6
Advances in 3D bioprinting technology for cardiac tissue engineering and regeneration显示文摘Cardiovascular disease is still one of the leading causes of death in the world, and heart transplantation is the current major treatment for end-stage cardiovascular diseases. However, because of the shortage of heart donors, new sources of cardiac regenerative medicine are greatly needed. The prominent development of tissue engineering using bioactive materials has creatively laid a direct promising foundation.Whereas, how to precisely pattern a cardiac structure with complete biological function still requires technological breakthroughs.Recently, the emerging three-dimensional(3D)bioprinting technology for tissue engineering has shown great advantages in generating micro-scale cardiac tissues, which has established its impressive potential as a novel foundation for cardiovascular regeneration.Whether 3D bioprinted hearts can replace traditional heart transplantation as a novel strategy for treating cardiovascular diseases in the future is a frontier issue. In this review article,we emphasize the current knowledge and future perspectives regarding available bioinks, bioprinting strategies and the latest outcome progress in cardiac 3D bioprinting to move this promising medical approach towards potential clinical implementation.Nanbo Liu Xing Ye Bin Yao Mingyi Zhao Peng Wu Guihuan Liu Donglin Zhuang Haodong Jiang Xiaowei Chen Yinru He Sha Huang Ping Zhu 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,5:4

Review, assessment and recommendations on environmental policies in Western China显示文摘Reviewing the existing environmental policies in Western China,we find that:in time sequence, the characteristics of China's western environmental policies shift from'development drive governance'to the full implementation of environmental protection and construction;and in spatial sequence, the ecological, social, and economic development of Western China reach to coordination through the nature reserve setting, ecological migrants, fiscal transfer payment and differentiated ecological environmental policies.Due to the implementation of the policies and projects, environmental degradation trends in the western ecological environment were alleviated significantly, the living conditions of farmers and herdsmen were improved, and many successful experiences were explored. However, future ecological environmental construction in Western China requires further improvement in integrated planning,eco-compensation mechanism, and policy assessment. This paper concludes with specific recommendations such as drawing up ecological environment construction planning, strengthening environmental law enforcement and incentive mechanisms, improving policy assessment and scientific support, enhancing environmental protection capacity, improving eco-compensation mechanism, and refining the environmental policies for key areas.Huiyuan Zhang Guihuan Liu Haiguang Hao Shufang Liu 2014Chinese Journal of Population,Resources and Environment2014,12,1:1

Chinese Policies and Practices regarding Payments for Ecological Services in Watersheds显示文摘Watersheds provide a variety of ecological services including soil and water conservation, carbon sequestration and biodiversity protection. However, activities in a fast-growing economy significantly impact the supply and demand of these watershed services. To mitigate these impacts, the concept of payment for environmental and ecosystem services from water-sheds has emerged in global academic and policy circles. The governments and academic communities in China have increas-ingly described payments for ecological services from watersheds with the concept of watershed eco-compensation as it is urgent to protect watershed ecosystems. Watershed eco-compensation has proved to be one of the most economically effective means of solving environmental problems of watersheds to be adopted by the Chinese government. This paper presents an objective analysis of the Chinese market for watershed ecosystem services, including supply and demand for the services. It also summarizes Chinese policies on watershed eco-compensation, including relevant laws and regulations and fiscal policies. In addition, it presents a re-view of Chinese practices in watershed eco-compensation, in-cluding the analysis of an ecological construction project in West-ern China, inter-provincial watershed eco-compensation practices and plans, and payment for ecological services at the provincial and small watershed levels. Finally, it summarizes the key com-ponents of the process of payment in Chinese watershed eco-compensation. This discussion forms the basis of concluding suggestions for ecosystem services compensation and ecological protection in the large scale river basin.Liu Guihuan Zhang Huiyuan Wan Jun 2008Chinese Journal of Population,Resources and Environment2008,6,1:0
Responses of grazing households to different levels of payments for ecosystem services显示文摘Introduction:Payments for Ecosystem Services(PES)programs have been implemented globally to protect ecosystems while securing the well-being of affected people.Reasonable payment standards are key to successful PES programs.Although some approaches are available for determining payment standards, few studies have applied them for grassland conservation with location indicators and socioeconomic contexts properly considered. Methods:Using China’s first pilot Grassland Ecological Compensation Policy(GECP)as an example,we analyzed the effects of payment levels, other natural and socioeconomic factors on herders’willingness to participate in the GECP in Damao County in Inner Mongolia where grassland degradation is happening at an alarming rate due to overgrazing and cropland expansion.Outcomes:Our results show that households with lower herding income, older age, higher education, larger grassland areas, and worse social relationships are more inclined to participate in the GECP.Conservation payment level,as well as natural and socioeconomic contextual factors, significantly affect the response of herdsmen, and a reasonable grassland payment standard with a 95%policy compliance rate should be 8.8 yuan mu-1.Discussion and Conclusion:Our findings can inform governments to develop effective PES programs to balance the need of human well-being improvement and grassland conservation in China and beyond.Weiwei Shen Ting Zhou Hong Chang Xiao Qiu Yahong Liu Hailian Sun Xiu Zhai Hongbo Yang Guihuan Liu Wu Yang 2022Ecosystem Health and Sustainability2022,8,1:0
Maturation of induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes and its therapeutic effect on myocardial infarction in mouse显示文摘Induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes(iPSC-CMs)have an irreplaceable role in the treatment of myocardial infarction(MI),which can be injected into the transplanted area with new cardiomyocytes(Cardiomyocytes,CMs),and improve myocardial function. However, the immaturity of the structure and function of iPSC-CMs is the main bottleneck at present.Since collagen participates in the formation of extracellular matrix(ECM),we synthesized nano colloidal gelatin(Gel)with collagen as the main component, and confirmed that the biomaterial has good biocompatibility and is suitable for cellular in vitro growth.Subsequently,we combined the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway inhibitor BEZ-235 with Gel and found that the two combined increased the sarcomere length and action potential amplitude(APA)of iPSC-CMs,and improved the Ca^(2+)processing ability, the maturation of mitochondrial morphological structure and metabolic function. Not only that,Gel can also prolong the retention rate of iPSC-CMs in the myocardium and increase the expression of Cx43 and angiogenesis in the transplanted area of mature iPSC-CMs,which also provides a reliable basis for the subsequent treatment of mature iPSC-CMs.Peng Wu Xiyalatu Sai Zhetao Li Xing Ye Li Jin Guihuan Liu Ge Li Pingzhen Yang Mingyi Zhao Shuoji Zhu Nanbo Liu Ping Zhu 2023Bioactive Materials2023,,2:0
