1Urban-rural disparities in mild cognitive impairment and its functional subtypes among community- dwelling older residents in central China显示文摘background Substantial variations in the prevalence of mild cognitive impairment(MCI)and its subtypes have been reported,although mostly in geographically defined developed countries and regions.Less is known about MCI and its subtypes in rural areas of less developed central China.Aims The study aimed to compare the prevalence of MCI and its subtypes in residents aged 65 years or older in urban and rural areas of Hubei Province,China.Methods Participants aged 65 years or older were recruited between 2018 and 2019.Inperson structured interviews and clinical and neuropsychological assessments were performed at city health community centres and township hospitals.results Among 2644 participants without dementia,735 had MCI,resulting in a prevalence of 27.8%for total MCI,20.9%for amnestic MCI(aMCI)and 6.9%for non-amnestic MCI(naMCI).The prevalence of MCI in urban and rural areas was 20.2%and 44.1%,respectively.After adjusting for demographic factors,the prevalence of total MCI,aMCI and naMCI differed significantly between rural and urban areas(adjusted odds ratio(OR)2.10,1.44 and 3.76,respectively).Subgroup analysis revealed an association between rural socioeconomic and lifestyle disadvantage and MCI and its subtypes.Conclusions Our findings suggest that the prevalence of MCI among urban residents in central China is consistent with that in other metropolis areas,such as Shanghai,but the prevalence in rural areas is twice that in urban areas.Prospective studies and dementia prevention in China should focus on rural areas.Dan Liu Lin Li Lina An Guirong Cheng Cong Chen Mingjun Zou Bo Zhang Xuguang Gan Lang Xu Yangming Ou Qingming Wu Ru Wang Yan Zeng 2021General Psychiatry2021,34,5:3
2Combination of Shengmai San and Radix puerariae ameliorates depression-like symptoms in diabetic rats at the nexus of PI3K/BDNF/SYN protein expression显示文摘Background:Hyperglycemia is a characteristic feature of diabetes that often results in neuropsychological complications such as depression.Diabetic individuals are more vulnerable to experience depression compared to the normal population.Thus,novel treatment approaches are required to reduce depressive symptoms among diabetic individuals.Traditional Chinese medicines(TCMs)such as Shengmai San(SMS)and Radix puerariae(R)are usually widely used to treat ailments such as neurological com-plications since ancient time.Methods:In this study,SMS was combined with R to prepare an R-SMS formulation and screened for their antidepressant activity in diabetic rats.The antidepressant po-tential of the prepared combination was evaluated behaviorally using open field test,novelty-induced hypophagia,and forced swim test in diabetic rats with biochemical and protein expression(PI3K,BDNF[brain-derived neurotrophic factor],and SYN[pr-esynaptic vesicle protein])analysis.Results:Diabetic rats(streptozotocin,45 mg/kg)showed elevated fasting blood glu-cose(FBG)>12 mM with depressive symptoms throughout the study.Treatment with R-SMS(0.5,1.5,and 4.5 g/kg)significantly reverted depressive symptoms in diabetic rats as evinced by significantly(p<0.05)reduced immobility time with an increased tendency to eat food in a novel environment.Treatment with R-SMS also significantly increased the protein expression of PI3K,BDNF,and SYN protein,which play a crucial role in depression.Conclusion:This study showed that R-SMS formulation antagonized depressive symptoms in diabetic rats;thus,this formulation might be studied further to develop as an antidepressant.Ayaz Ahmed Guirong Zeng Mudassar Azhar Fengzhong Wang Jingru Wang Bei Fan Xinmin Liu Dejiang Jiang Qiong Wang 2023Animal Models and Experimental Medicine2023,6,3:1

4Identifi cation and characterization of a novel tetrapeptide from enzymatic hydrolysates of Baijiu byproduct显示文摘In order to prepare angiotensin I-converting enzyme(ACE)inhibitory peptides,distilled spent grains of Chinese strong-flavor Baijiu were hydrolyzed by alcalase followed by papain under optimized conditions.A superior ACE inhibitory peptide was separated and purifi ed by ultrafi ltration and high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC),and its amino acid sequence was further identified as Gln-Gly-Val-Pro(QGVP)by electrospray mass spectrometry(ESI-MS).QGVP formed 6 hydrogen bonds with the active site of ACE,which is responsible for reducingα-helix structure content of ACE causing subsequent inactivation.M oreover,it showed no significant cytotoxicity toward human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs),a nd signifi cantly i nduced phosphorylation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase(p-e NOS)and decreased endothelin 1(END1)expression in angiotensin I(Ang I)-treated HUVECs,demonstrating the potential antihypertensive effect.The peptide QGVP hydrolyzed from distilled spent grain proteins of Chinese strong-fl avor Baijiu was expected to be used as a food ingredient to prevent or co-treat hypertension with other chemical drugs.Qiang Wu Changqing Zhong Guirong Zeng Xu Zhang Liping Xiang Chang Wan Yougui Yu 2022Food Science and Human Wellness2022,11,6:0
5Protective Effect of Shenfu Injection on Rats with Chronic Heart Failure Induced by Doxorubicin显示文摘[Objectives] To determine the protective effect of Shenfu injection( SFI) on chronic heart failure( CHF) in rats induced by doxorubicin. [Methods] CHF was induced by doxorubicin via intraperitoneal injection in rats. The cardiac function parameters,the heart index,the serum brain natriuretic peptide( BNP) level and cardiac histopathology were measured 4 weeks after Shenfu injection treatment. [Results]Shenfu injection remarkably improved the heart index and cardiac histopathology,increased the heart rate( HR),left ventricular systolic pressure( LVSP),maximum rising rate of left ventricular pressure( + dp/dtmax) and dropping rate of left ventricular pressure(-dp/dtmax),reduced the left ventricular end-diastolic pressure( LVEDP) and serum BNP level of rats with CHF induced by doxorubicin. 6Chemical Synthesis of an Octasaccharide Derivative Related to Group B Streptococcus Cell-Wall Polysaccharide显示文摘Group B Streptococcus(GBS)is the major pathogen that causes invasive infectious diseases in neonates and infants.The develop-ment of preventive and therapeutic strategies against GBS infection has been becoming the most pressing subject worldwide.Group B carbohydrate(GBC),the group B-specific polysaccharide that distinguishes GBS with other streptococci species,has been identified as an attractive antigen for diagnosis and vaccine development because of its highly conservative tetra-antennary structure.In this paper,a highly convergent[3+5]glycosylation strategy for efficient synthesis of an octasaccharide derivative related to GBC oligo-saccharide unitⅡhas been developed.In this synthesis,each glycosylation reaction was efficiently constructed with glycosyl im-idates,especially trifluoroacetimidate,as donors,and each glycosidic bond was stereoselectively controlled via the neighboring group participation effect of acyl group on the 2-O-position of imidate donors or the solvent effect of Et_(2)O.Furthermore,the ami-noethylphosphate group was smoothly installed on the 6-O-position of D-glucitoll residue using the phosphoramidite method.After global deprotection,the target octasaccharide was successfully obtained from o-glucitol in 29 steps with an overall yield of 1.37%.The free amino group installed on the aminoethylphosphate spacer of the target molecule enables its modification with functional-ized biomolecules for further biological studies.Chongzhen Sun Zhaojun Liu Wuxian Zeng Xiaolin Ma Guirong Wang Guofeng Gu 2023Chinese Journal of Chemistry2023,41,2:0
7Correlation between serum lipid profiles and cognitive impairment in old age:a cross-sectional study显示文摘Background The correlation between cognitive function and lipid profiles,including total cholesterol,low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)and triglycerides,is inconsistent.Aims This cross-sectional study investigated the association between serum lipid levels and the prevalence of cognitive impairment among community-dwelling older adults and explored this difference in association by gender and urban-rural residency.Methods Participants aged 65 and above in urban and rural areas were recruited between 2018 and 2020,selected from the Hubei Memory and Aging Cohort Study.Detailed neuropsychological evaluations,clinical examinations and laboratory tests were conducted in community health service centres.Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyse the correlation between serum lipid profiles and the prevalence of cognitive impairment.Results We identified 1336 cognitively impaired adults(≥65 years)-1066 with mild cognitive impairment and 270 with dementia-from 4746 participants.Triglycerides level was correlated with cognitive impairment in the total sample(χ2=6.420,p=0.011).In gender-stratified multivariate analysis,high triglycerides in males reduced the risk of cognitive impairment(OR:0.785,95%CI:0.623 to 0.989,p=0.040),and high LDL-C in females increased the risk of cognitive impairment(OR:1.282,95%CI:1.040 to 1.581,p=0.020).In both gender-stratified and urban-rural stratified multivariate analyses,high triglycerides reduced the risk of cognitive impairment in older urban men(OR:0.734,95%CI:0.551 to 0.977,p=0.034),and high LDL-C increased the risk of cognitive impairment in older rural women(OR:1.830,95%CI:1.119 to 2.991,p=0.016).Conclusions There are gender and urban-rural differences in the correlation of serum lipids with cognitive impairment.High triglycerides levels may be a protective factor for cognitive function in older urban men,while high LDL-C levels may be a risk factor for cognitive function in older rural women.Yafu Yu Pingting Yan Guirong Cheng Dan Liu Lang Xu Mengliu Yang Heng Xu Xi Cheng Pengfei Lian Yan Zeng 2023General Psychiatry2023,36,2:0

9Ginsenoside Rg1 and astaxanthin act on the hypothalamus to protect female mice against reproductive aging显示文摘To the Editor:Female infertility due to reproductive aging has become a prominent concern in the population.Evidence indicates that oxidative stress is one of the dominant mechanisms underlying reproductive aging.[1,2]Although female reproductive aging involves gradual changes to the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian(HPO)axis,previous studies support a key involvement of the hypothalamus.[3,4]In our recent dataset,it was shown that estrogen-induced oxidative stress led to the senescence of hypothalamic astrocytes that predated reproductive dysfunction.[3]Growing evidence has demonstrated that antioxidants might delay reproductive aging by reducing oxidative damage to ovaries.[1,2]However,the effect of antioxidants on the hypothalamus has not been reported.Astaxanthin(AST),3,3'-dihydroxy-β-carotene-4,4'-dione,is a xanthophyll carotenoid found predominantly in marine animals such as salmon,trout,lobster,and shrimp.Ginseng is a tonic drug in traditional Chinese medicine.Ginsenoside Rg1,a class of steroidal glycosides,is a prominent active anti-aging ingredient within ginseng responsible for these effects.Notably,the two antioxidants freely cross the blood-brain barrier.In this study,we evaluated the effects of these two natural compounds on the hypothalamus and ovaries in protecting female mice from reproductive aging.Xiaoman Dai Guirong Zeng Luyan Hong Qinyong Ye Xiaochun Chen Jing Zhang 2022Chinese Medical Journal2022,,1:0
