Spatial and temporal variations and controlling factors of potential evapotranspiration in China:1956-2000显示文摘Based on the climatic data of 580 stations in China during 1956 and 2000, potential evapotranspiration are calculated using the Penman-Monteith Method recommended by FAO. The spatial and temporal distributions of the potential evapotranspiration over China and the temporal trends of the regional means for 10 major river basins and whole China are analyzed. Through a partial correlation analysis, the major climate factors which affect the temporal change of the potential evapotranspiration are analyzed. Major results are drawn as follows: 1) The seasonal and annual potential evapotranspiration for China as a whole and for most basins show decline tendencies during the past 45 years; for the Songhua River Basin there appears a slightly increasing trend. 2) Consequently, the annual potential evapotranspirations averaged over 1980-2000 are lower than those for the first water resources assessment (1956-1979) in most parts of China. Exceptions are found in some areas of Shandong Peninsula, western and middle basins of the rivers in Southwest China, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region as well as the source regions of the Yangtze and Yellow rivers, which may have brought about disadvantages to the exploration and utilization of water resources. 3) Generally, sunshine duration, wind speed and relative humidity have greater impact on the potential evapotranspiration than temperature. Decline tendencies of sunshine duration and/or wind speed in the same period appear to be the major causes for the negative trend of the potential evapotranspiration in most areas.GAO Ge CHEN Deliang REN Guoyu CHEN Yu LIAO Yaoming 2006Journal of Geographical Sciences2006,16,1:34

Experimental and numerical investigation of unsteady cavitating flows through a 2D hydrofoil显示文摘In the present study, firstly, the unsteady cavitating flows around a hydrofoil are studied based on the flow visualization and detail velocity measurement, a high-speed video camera is used to visualize the flow structures, and a particle image velocimetry (PIV) technique is applied to the measurement of the time-averaged and instantaneous velocity and vorticity fields. The results show that the unsteadiness of mass transfer process between the vapor and the two-phase regions is substantial, a self-oscillatory behavior of the whole sheet cavitation is obtained, with large length fluctuations and vapor cloud shedding, and also the cavitation structure depends on the interaction of the water-vapor mixture and the periodic vortex shedding. The main purpose of this experimental study is to offer information for validating computational models, and shed light on the unsteady multiphase transport process of cavitating flows. Furthermore, with an emphasis on the dynamics of the attached turbulent cavitating flows, a filter-based model (FBM) is derived from the ktwo-equation model, a conditional averaging method aimed at improving unsteady simulation is applied to computation. In comparison to the standard kmodel, overall, the filter-based model is shown to improve the predictive capability considerably.HUANG Biao WANG GuoYu 2011Science China(Technological Sciences)2011,54,7:23
Physical and numerical investigation on transient cavitating flows显示文摘The objective of this paper is to investigate transient cavitating flows around a hydrofoil via combined physical and numerical studies. The aims are to 1) investigate the periodic formation, breakup, shedding, and collapse of the sheet/cloud cavities, 2) provide a better insight in the physical mechanism that governs the dynamics and structures of the sheet/cloud cavitation, 3) quantify the influence of cavitation on the surrounding flow structures. Results are presented for a Clark-Y hydrofoil fixed at an angle of attack of a=8° at a moderate Reynolds number, Re=7×105 , for sheet/cloud cavitating conditions. The experimental studies were conducted in a cavitation tunnel at Beijing Institute of Technology, China. The numerical simulations are performed by solving the incompressible, multiphase unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) equations via the commercial code CFX using a transport equation-based cavitation model; a filter-based density corrected model (FBDCM) is used to regulate the turbulent eddy viscosity in both the cavitation regions near the foil and in the wake. The results show that numerical predictions are capable of capturing the initiation of the cavity, growth toward the trailing edge, and subsequent shedding in accordance with the quantitative features observed in the experiment. Regarding vapor shedding in the cavitating flow around the three-dimensional foil, it is primarily attributed to the effect of the re-entrant flow, which is formed due to the strong adverse pressure gradient. The results show strong correlation between the cavity and vorticity structures, demonstrating that the inception, growth, shedding, and collapse of sheet/cloud cavities are important mechanisms for vorticity production and modification.HUANG Biao WANG GuoYu ZHAO Yu WU Qin 2013Science China(Technological Sciences)2013,56,9:15

Recent rapid shortening of crust across the Tianshan Mts. and relative motion of tectonic blocks in the north and south显示文摘Based on the multiple-epoch Global Positioning System observations during a period from 1992 to 1999, we document directly a rapid crustal shortening of -20 mm/a across the western Tianshan Mts. (76°E), in contrast to a 4 mm/a convergent rate across the eastern Tianshan Mts. (87°E) and the north-south convergence across the mountain belt descends laterally from west to east. The direction of current crustal movement inferred by GPS sites along the southern flank of the Tianshan Mts. is approximately perpendicular to the easterly-trending mountain belt, indicating that the Tarim Basin thrust almost rightly into the Tianshan Mts. The Tarim Basin accommodates nearly no or a minor, if any, crustal deformation and rotates clockwise, as a rigid body in a whole, at a rate of 0.64°/Ma around a Euler pole at 95.7° E, 40.3°N (Anxi, Gansu) with respect to the stable Siberia. 8An Integrated Cyber-Physical Simulation Environment for Smart Grid Applications显示文摘The concept of Cyber-Physical Systems(CPSs),which combine computation, networking, and physical processes,is considered to be beneficial to smart grid applications. This study presents an integrated simulation environment to provide a unified platform for the investigation of smart grid applications involving power grid monitoring, communication, and control. In contrast to the existing approaches, this environment allows the network simulator to operate independently, importing its results to the power system simulation. This resolves conflicts between discrete event simulation and continuous simulation. In addition, several data compensation methods are proposed and investigated under different network delay conditions. A case study of wide-area monitoring and control is provided, and the efficiency of the proposed simulation framework has been evaluated based on the experimental results.Yuxin Wan Junwei Cao Shuqing Zhang Guoyu Tu Chao Lu Xingtao Xu Keqin Li 2014Tsinghua Science and Technology2014,19,2:13
Effect of dilution holes on the performance of a triple swirler combustor显示文摘A triple swirler combustor is considered to be a promising solution for future high temperature rise combustors. The present paper aims to study dilution holes including primary dilution holes and secondary dilution holes on the performance of a triple swirler combustor. Experimental investigations are conducted at different inlet airflow velocities(40–70 m/s) and combustor overall fuel–air ratio with fixed inlet airflow temperature(473 K) and atmospheric pressure. The experimental results show that the ignition is very difficult with specific performance of high ignition fuel–air ratio when the primary dilution holes are located 0.6H(where H is the liner dome height)downstream the dome, while the other four cases have almost the same ignition performance. The position of primary dilution holes has an effect on lean blowout stability and has a large influence on combustion efficiency. The combustion efficiency is the highest when the primary dilution holes are placed 0.9H downstream the dome among the five different locations. For the secondary dilution holes, the pattern factor of Design A is better than that of Design B.Ding Guoyu He Xiaomin Zhao Ziqiang An Bokun Song Yaoyu Zhu Yixiao 2014Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2014,27,6:13
The effects of corrugation and wing planform on the aerodynamic force production of sweeping model insect wings显示文摘The effects of corrugation and wing planform (shape and aspect ratio) on the aerodynamic force production of model insect wings in sweeping (rotating after an initial start) motion at Reynolds number 200 and 3500 at angle of attack 40° are investigated, using the method of computational fluid dynamics. A representative wing corrugation is considered. Wing-shape and aspect ratio (AR) of ten representative insect wings are considered; they are the wings of fruit fly, cranefly, dronefly, hoverfly, ladybird, bumblebee, honeybee, lacewing (forewing), hawkmoth and dragonfly (forewing), respectively (AR of these wings varies greatly, from 2.84 to 5.45). The following facts are shown.(1) The corrugated and flat-plate wings produce approximately the same aerodynamic forces. This is because for a sweeping wing at large angle of attack, the length scale of the corrugation is much smaller than the size of the separated flow region or the size of the leading edge vortex (LEV). (2) The variation in wing shape can have considerable effects on the aerodynamic force; but it has only minor effects on the force coefficients when the velocity at r2 (the radius of the second moment of wing area) is used as the reference velocity; i.e.the force coefficients are almost unaffected by the variation in wing shape. (3) The effects of AR are remarkably small:when AR increases from 2.8 to 5.5, the force coefficients vary only slightly; flowfield results show that when AR is relatively large, the part of the LEV on the outer part of the wings sheds during the sweeping motion. As AR is increased, on one hand, the force coefficients will be increased due to the reduction of 3-dimensional flow effects; on the other hand, they will be decreased due to the shedding of pan of the LEV; these two effects approximately cancel each other, resulting in only minor change of the force coefficients.Guoyu Luo Mao Sun 2005Acta Mechanica Sinica2005,21,6:12
A modified PANS model for computations of unsteady turbulence cavitating flows显示文摘A modification to the PANS(partially averaged Navier-Stokes) model is proposed to simulate unsteady cavitating flows. In the model, the parameter fk is modified to vary as a function of the ratios between the water density and the mixture density in the local flows. The objective of this study is to validate the modified model and further understand the interaction between turbulence and cavitation around a Clark-Y hydrofoil. The comparisons between the numerical and experiment results show that the modified model can be improved to predict the cavity evolution, vortex shedding frequency and the lift force fluctuating in time fairly well, as it can effectively modulate the eddy viscosity in the cavitating region and various levels of physical turbulent fluctuations are resolved. In addition, from the computational results, it is proved that cavitation phenomenon physically influences the turbulent level, especially by the vortex shedding behaviors. Also, the mean u-velocity profiles demonstrate that the attached cavity thickness can alter the local turbulent shear layer.HU ChangLi WANG GuoYu CHEN GuangHao HUANG Biao 2014Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2014,57,10:12

An Approach to Underwater Image Enhancement Based on Image Structural Decomposition显示文摘Underwater imaging posts a challenge due to the degradation by the absorption and scattering occurred during light propagation as well as poor lighting conditions in water medium. Although image filtering techniques are utilized to improve image quality effectively, problems of the distortion of image details and the bias of color correction still exist in output images due to the complexity of image texture distribution. This paper proposes a new underwater image enhancement method based on image structural decomposition. By introducing a curvature factor into the Mumford_Shah_G decomposition algorithm, image details and structure components are better preserved without the gradient effect. Thus, histogram equalization and Retinex algorithms are applied in the decomposed structure component for global image enhancement and non-uniform brightness correction for gray level and the color images, then the optical absorption spectrum in water medium is incorporate to improve the color correction. Finally, the enhanced structure and preserved detail component are recomposed to generate the output. Experiments with real underwater images verify the image improvement by the proposed method in image contrast, brightness and color fidelity.JI Tingting WANG Guoyu 2015Journal of Ocean University of China2015,14,2:11

Detached-eddy Simulation for Time-dependent Turbulent Cavitating Flows显示文摘The Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS),such as the original k-ω two-equation closures, have been very popular in providing good prediction for a wide variety of flows with presently available computational resource. But for cavitating flows, the above equations noticeably over-predict turbulent production and hence effective viscosity. In this paper, the detached eddy simulation(DES) method for time-dependent turbulent cavitating flows is investigated. To assess the state-of-the-art of computational capabilities, different turbulence models including the widely used RANS model and DES model are conducted.Firstly,in order to investigate the grid dependency in computations, different grid sizes are adopted in the computation.Furthermore, the credibility of DES model is supported by the unsteady cavitating flows over a 2D hydrofoil. The results show that the DES model can effectively reduce the eddy viscosities. From the experimental validations regarding the force analysis, frequency and the unsteady cavity visualizations, more favorable agreement with experimental visualizations and measurements are obtained by DES model.DES model is better able to capture unsteady phenomena including cavity length and the resulting hydrodynamic characteristics, reproduces the time-averaged velocity quantitatively around the hydrofoil, and yields more acceptable and unsteady dynamics features. The DES model has shown to be effective in improving the overall predictive capability of unsteady cavitating flows.HUANG Biao WANG Guoyu YU Zhiyi SHI Shuguo 2012Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2012,25,3:10
Chemical and Isotopic Characteristics of the Water and Suspended Particulate Materials in the Yangtze River and Their Geological and Environmental Implications显示文摘The chemical and isotopic characteristics of the water and suspended particulate materials(SPM) in the Yangtze River were investigated on the samples collected from 25 hydrological monitoring stations in the mainsteam and 13 hydrological monitoring stations in the major tributaries during 2003 to 2007. The water samples show a large variation in both δD( 30‰ to 112‰) and δ18O( 3.8‰ to 15.4‰) values. Both δD and δ18O values show a decrease from the river head to the Jinsha Jiang section and then increase downstream to the river mouth. It is found that the oxygen and hydrogen isotopic compositions of the Yangtze water are controlled by meteoric precipitation, evaporation, ice(and snow) melting and dam building. The Yangtze SPM concentrations show a large variation and are well corresponded to the spatial and temporal changes of flow speed, runoff and SPM supply, which are affected by the slope of the river bed, local precipitation rate, weathering intensity, erosion condition and anthropogenic activity. The Yangtze SPM consists of clay minerals, clastic silicate and carbonate minerals, heavy minerals, iron hydroxide and organic compounds. From the upper to lower reaches, the clay and clastic silicate components in SPM increase gradually, but the carbonate components decrease gradually, which may reflect changes of climate and weathering intensity in the drainage area. Compared to those of the upper crust rocks, the Yangtze SPM has lower contents of SiO2, CaO, K2 O and Na2 O and higher contents of TFe2 O3 and trace metals of Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Pb and Cd. The ΣREE in the Yangtze SPM is also slightly higher than that of the upper crust. From the upper to lower reaches, the CaO and MgO contents in SPM decrease gradually, but the SiO2 content increases gradually, corresponding to the increase of clay minerals and decrease of the carbonates. The δ30SiSPM values( 1.1‰ to 0.3‰) of the Yangtze SPM are similar to those of the average shale, but lower than those of the granite rocks( 0.3‰ to 0.3‰), reflecting the effect of silicon isotope fractionation in silicate weathering process. The δ30SiSPM values of the Yangtze SPM show a decreasing trend from the upper to the middle and lower reaches, responding to the variation of the clay content. The major anions of the river water are HCO 3, SO 4 2, Cl, NO 3, SiO 4 4 and F and the major cations include Ca2+, Na+, Mg2+, K+ and Sr2+. The good correlation between HCO3-content and the content of Ca2+may suggest that carbonate dissolution is the dominate contributor to the total dissolved solid(TDS) of the Yangtze River. Very good correlations are also found among contents of Cl, SO4 2, Na+, Mg2+, K+and Sr2+, indicating the important contribution of evaporite dissolution to the TDS of the Yangtze River. High TDS contents are generally found in the head water, reflecting a strong effect of evaporation in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. A small increase of the TDS is generally observed in the river mouth, indicating the influence of tidal intrusion. The F and NO3 contents show a clear increase trend from the upstream to downstream, reflecting the contribution of pesticides and fertilizers in the Chuan Jiang section and the middle and lower reaches. The DSi shows a decrease trend from the upstream to downstream, reflecting the effect of rice and grass growth along the Chuan Jiang section and the middle and lower reaches. The dissolved Cu, Zn and Cd in the Yangtze water are all higher than those in world large rivers, reflecting the effect of intensive mining activity along the Yangtze drainage area. The Yangtze water generally shows similar REE distribution pattern to the global shale. The δ30SiDiss values of the dissolved silicon vary from 0.5‰ to 3.7‰, which is the highest among those of the rivers studied. The δ30SiDiss values of the water in the Yangtze mainsteam show an increase trend from the upper stream to downstream. Its DSi and δ30SiDiss are influenced by multiple processes, such as weathering process, phytolith growth in plants, evaporation, phytolith dissolution, growth of fresh water diatom, adsorption and desorption of aqueous monosilicic acid on iron oxide, precipitation of silcretes and formation of clays coatings in aquifers, and human activity. The δ34SSO4 values of the Yangtze water range from 1.7‰ to 9.0‰. The SO4 in the Yangtze water are mainly from the SO4 in meteoric water, the dissolved sulfate from evaporite, and oxidation of sulfide in rocks, coal and ore deposits. The sulfate reduction and precipitation process can also affect the sulfur isotope composition of the Yangtze water. The87Sr/86Sr ratios of the Yangtze water range from 0.70823 to 0.71590, with an average value of 0.71084. The87Sr/86Sr ratio and Sr concentration are primary controlled by mixing of various sources with different87Sr/86Sr ratios and Sr contents, including the limestone, evaporite and the silicate rocks. The atmospheric precipitation and anthropogenic inputs can also contribute some Sr to the river. The δ11B values of the dissolved B in the Yangtze water range from 2.0‰ to 18.3‰, which is affected by multifactors, such as silicate weathering, carbonate weathering, evaporite dissolution, atmospheric deposition, and anthropogenic inputs.DING Tiping GAO Jianfei TIAN Shihong SHI Guoyu CHEN Feng WANG Chengyu LUO Xurong HAN Dan 2014Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2014,88,1:10
Chondroitinase ABC plus bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells for repair of spinal cord injury显示文摘As chondroitinase ABC can improve the hostile microenvironment and cell transplantation is proven to be effective after spinal cord injury, we hypothesized that their combination would be a more effective treatment option. At 5 days after T8 spinal cord crush injury, rats were injected with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell suspension or chondroitinase ABC 1 mm from the edge of spinal cord damage zone. Chondroitinase ABC was first injected, and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell suspension was injected on the next day in the combination group. At 14 days, the mean Basso, Beattie and Bresnahan score of the rats in the combination group was higher than other groups. Hematoxylin-eosin staining showed that the necrotic area was significantly reduced in the combination group compared with other groups. Glial fibrillary acidic protein-chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan double staining showed that the damage zone of astrocytic scars was significantly reduced without the cavity in the combination group. Glial fibrillary acidic protein/growth associated protein-43 double immunostaining revealed that positive fibers traversed the damage zone in the combination group. These results suggest that the combination of chondroitinase ABC and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell transplantation contributes to the repair of spinal cord injury.Chun Zhang Xijing He Haopeng Li Guoyu Wang 2013Neural Regeneration Research2013,8,11:10
A modified density based cavitation model for time dependent turbulent cavitating flow computations显示文摘The predictive capability of transport equation-based cavitation models including the Kubota cavitation model (Model-1) and interfacial dynamics cavitation model (Model-2), is evaluated for the attached turbulent cavitating flows. In this study, the test problem is the unsteady cloud cavitating flows around a Clark-Y hydrofoil. Based on the evaluations of existing models, we identified the differences between these two vaporization and condensation processes in the affected region, and provided a modified density based cavitation model (Model-3). The numerical results of the cavity shapes, velocity distributions and dynamics of the cavity oscillations were compared to existing experimental data. Compared with the other cavitation models, a significant improvement for the numerical results of unsteady cavitating flows has been obtained with the new model. Our study provides the information for further modeling development.HUANG Biao WANG GuoYu 2011Chinese Science Bulletin2011,56,19:9
An Overview of China's Mainland Temperature Change Research显示文摘There has been significant effort devoted to investigating long-term trends in land surface air temperature over China's Mainland by Chinese scientists over the past 50 years, and much progress has been made in understanding dynamics of the changes. This review highlights research conducted by early Chinese climatologists, and particularly Professor Shaowu Wang from Peking University, with special focus on systematic work that has been conducted since the mid to late 1970s. We also discuss major issues that remain unresolved in past and current studies. The most recent analyses indicate that the country-average annual mean surface air temperature rose by 1.12℃ over the past 115 years(1901–2015), with a rate of increase of about 0.10℃ decade^(-1). Temperatures have risen more rapidly since the 1950s, with the rate of increase of more than 0.25℃ decade^(-1). However, the recent increase in temperatures is in large part due to contamination by systematically biased data. These data are influenced by unprecedented urbanization in China, with a contribution of urbanization to the overall increase of annual mean temperatures in China's Mainland of about one third over the past half a century. If the bias is corrected, the rate of increase for the country-average annual mean surface air temperature is 0.17℃ decade^(-1) over the last 50–60 years, which is approximately the same as global and Northern Hemispheric averages in recent decades. Future efforts should be focused towards the recovery and digitization of early-year observational records, the homogenization of observational data, the evaluation and adjustment of urbanization bias in temperature data series from urban stations, the analysis of extreme temperatures over longer periods including the first half of the 20th century, and the investigation of the observed surface air temperature change mechanisms in China's Mainland.Guoyu REN Yihui DING Guoli TANG 2017Journal of Meteorological Research2017,31,1:9
A cavitation model for computations of unsteady cavitating flows显示文摘A local vortical cavitation(LVC) model for the computation of unsteady cavitation is proposed. The model is derived from the Rayleigh–Plesset equations, and takes into account the relations between the cavitation bubble radius and local vortical effects.Calculations of unsteady cloud cavitating fows around a Clark-Y hydrofoil are performed to assess the predictive capability of the LVC model using well-documented experimental data.Compared with the conventional Zwart's model, better agreement is observed between the predictions of the LVC model and experimental data, including measurements of time-averaged fl w structures, instantaneous cavity shapes and the frequency of the cloud cavity shedding process.Based on the predictions of the LVC model,it is demonstrated that the evaporation process largely concentrates in the core region of the leading edge vorticity in accordance with the growth in the attached cavity, and the condensation process concentrates in the core region of the trailing edge vorticity, which corresponds to the spread of the rear component of the attached cavity. When the attached cavity breaks up and moves downstream, the condensation area fully transports to the wake region, which is in accordance with the dissipation of the detached cavity.Furthermore, using vorticity transport equations,we also fin that the periodic formation, breakup, and shedding of the sheet/cloud cavities, along with the associated baroclinic torque, are important mechanisms for vorticity production and modification When the attached cavity grows, the liquid–vapour interface that moves towards the trailing edge enhances the vorticity in the attached cav-ity closure region. As the re-entrant jet moves upstream, the wavy/bubbly cavity interface enhances the vorticity near the trailing edge.At the end of the cycle, the break-up of the stable attached cavity is the main reason for the vorticity enhancement near the suction surface.Yu Zhao Guoyu Wang Biao Huang 2016Acta Mechanica Sinica2016,32,2:9
