1Does proximal femoral nail antirotation achieve better outcome than previous-generation proximal femoral nail?显示文摘BACKGROUND There are few studies in the literature comparing the clinical outcomes and radiographic results of proximal femoral nail(PFN)and proximal femoral nail antirotation(PFNA)for pertrochanteric femoral fracture(PFF)in elderly patients.AIM To evaluate both clinical and radiographic outcomes after fixation with PFN and PFNA in an elderly patient population.METHODS One hundred fifty-eight patients older than 65 years with PFF who underwent fixation with either PFN or PFNA were included.Seventy-three patients underwent fixation with PFN,whereas 85 were fixed with PFNA.The mean follow-up was 2.4 years(range,1-7 years).Clinical outcome was measured in terms of operation time,postoperative function at each follow-up visit,and mortality within one year.Radiographic evaluation included reduction quality after surgery,Cleveland Index,tip-apex distance(TAD),union rate,time to union,and sliding distance of the screw or blade.Complications including nonunion,screw cutout,infection,osteonecrosis of the femoral head,and implant breakage were also investigated.RESULTS Postoperative function was more satisfactory in patients who underwent PFNA than in those who underwent PFN(P=0.033).Radiologically,the sliding difference was greater in PFN than in PFNA patients(6.1 and 3.2 mm,respectively,P=0.036).The rate of screw cutout was higher in the PFN group;eight for PFN(11.0%)and two for PFNA patients(2.4%,P=0.027).There were no differences between the two groups in terms of operation time,mortality rate at one year after the operation,adequacy of reduction,Cleveland Index,TAD,union rate,time to union,nonunion,infection,osteonecrosis,or implant breakage.CONCLUSION Elderly patients with PFF who underwent PFNA using a helical blade demonstrated better clinical and radiographic outcomes as measured by clinical score and sliding distance compared with patients who underwent PFN.Seung-Hoon Baek Seunggil Baek Heejae Won Jee-Wook Yoon Chul-Hee Jung Shin-Yoon Kim 2020World Journal of Orthopedics2020,11,11:4

13A Study on the Activities During the Fuzzy Front End in New Product Development Projects of Korean ICT Firms显示文摘Although previous studies on Korean manufacturing firms have empirically analyzed the causal relationship between activities during the FFE(Fuzzy Front End)and success of NPD(New Product Development)of Korean manufacturing firms,no study has concretely focused on Korean ICT(Information and Communications Technology)firms and their FFE activities.The main aim of this study is to identify the activities of these firms during their FFE and provide managerial insights into the other ICT firms.The authors conducted a survey(106 valid responses)that their FFE activities on new product development project managers in Korean ICT firms.The results showed that even though new product development managers of Korean ICT firms did not search for ideas systemically,they communicated with those departments/divisions that had frequent interaction with customers for idea assessment,with the active involvement of middle-or higher-level managers.They thoroughly established initial plans in the pre-development stages and seriously analyzed competitors’products and direct and indirect customer interactions in their market survey activities.Heeja Yoon Jeonglim Yun Akio Nagahira Shuichi Ishida 2019Management Studies2019,7,4:0
14Substructure imaging of heterogeneous nanomaterials with enhanced refractive index contrast by using a functionalized tip in photoinduced force microscopy显示文摘The opto-mechanical force response from light-illuminated nanoscale materials has been exploited in many tip-based imaging applications to characterize various heterogeneous nanostructures.Such a force can have two origins:thermal expansion and induced dipoles.The thermal expansion reflects the absorption of the material,which enables one to chemically characterize a material at the absorption resonance.The induced dipole interaction reflects the local refractive indices of the material underneath the tip,which is useful to characterize a material in the spectral region where no absorption resonance occurs,as in the infrared(IR)-inactive region.Unfortunately,the dipole force is relatively small,and the contrast is rarely discernible for most organic materials and biomaterials,which only show a small difference in refractive indices for their components.In this letter,we demonstrate that refractive index contrast can be greatly enhanced with the assistance of a functionalized tip.With the enhanced contrast,we can visualize the substructure of heterogeneous biomaterials,such as a polyacrylonitrile-nanocrystalline cellulose(PAN-NCC)nanofiber.From substructural visualization,we address the issue of the tensile strength of PAN-NCC fibers fabricated by several different mixing methods.Our understanding from the present study will open up a new opportunity to provide enhanced sensitivity for substructure mapping of nanobiomaterials,as well as local field mapping of photonic devices,such as surface polaritons on semiconductors,metals and van der Waals materials.Junghoon Jahng Heejae Yang Eun Seong Lee 2018Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1:0
15Arthroscopic treatment of iliopsoas tendinitis after total hip arthroplasty with acetabular cup malposition: Two case reports显示文摘BACKGROUND Optimal treatment for iliopsoas tendinitis after total hip arthroplasty(THA)with cup malposition,iliopsoas release alone or with cup revision,is controversial,particularly in young,active patients.Moreover,arthroscopic iliopsoas tendon(IPT)release in these patients has been rarely described,and midterm effects of this procedure on THA longevity and groin pain recurrence remain unclear.We performed arthroscopic IPT release after THA and report midterm outcomes in two young patients with acetabular cup malposition.CASE SUMMARY In the two patients,groin pain started early after THA.Physical examination revealed nonspecific findings,and laboratory tests showed no evidence of infection.Radiography and computed tomography showed reduced acetabular component anteversion angle and anterior cup prominence of more than 16 mm.For therapeutic diagnosis,ultrasonography-guided lidocaine with steroid was injected into the IPT sheath.In both patients,groin pain improved initially but worsened after a few months.Therefore,the patients underwent arthroscopic IPT release under spinal anesthesia.Arthroscopy revealed synovitis with fibrous tissues around the IPT and various lesions related to the implants after THA.IPT tenotomy and debridement with biopsy were performed;histopathologic studies showed chronic inflammation with synovial hyperplasia.Both patients were encouraged to start walking immediately after surgery,and they returned to complete daily function early after surgery.They experienced no recurrence of groin pain or any implant-related problems 5 years postoperatively.CONCLUSION Arthroscopic IPT release for cup malposition produced excellent midterm outcomes without recurrence of groin pain and implant-related problems.Heejae Won Kwang-Hwan Kim Jae-Wook Jung Shin-Yoon Kim Seung-Hoon Baek 2020World Journal of Clinical Cases2020,8,21:0
16Controlling the electro-optic response of a semiconducting perovskite coupled to a phonon-resonant cavity显示文摘Optical cavities,resonant with vibrational or electronic transitions of material within the cavity,enable control of light-matter interaction.Previous studies have reported cavity-induced modifications of chemical reactivity,fluorescence,phase behavior,and charge transport.Here,we explore the effect of resonant cavity-phonon coupling on the transient photoconductivity in a hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite.To this end,we measure the ultrafast photoconductivity response of perovskite in a tunable Fabry–Pérot terahertz cavity,designed to be transparent for optical excitation.The terahertz-cavity field-phonon interaction causes apparent Rabi splitting between the perovskite phonon mode and the cavity mode.We explore whether the cavity-phonon interaction affects the material’s electron-phonon interaction by determining the charge-carrier mobility through photoconductivity.Despite the apparent hybridization of cavity and phonon modes,we show that the perovskite properties in both ground(phonon response)and excited(photoconductive response)states remain unaffected by the tunable light-matter interaction.Yet the response of the integral perovskite-terahertz optical cavity system depends critically on the interaction strength of the cavity with the phonon:the transient terahertz response to optical excitation can be increased up to threefold by tuning the cavity-perovskite interaction strength.These results enable tunable switches and frequency-controlled induced transparency devices.Lucia Di Virgilio Jaco J.Geuchies Heejae Kim Keno Krewer Hai Wang Maksim Grechko Mischa Bonn 2023Light(Science & Applications)2023,12,9:0
17Surgical strategy of the treatment of atypical femoral fractures显示文摘The atypical femoral fracture(AFF)has been attracting significant attention because of its increasing incidence;additionally,its treatment is challenging from biological and mechanical aspects.Although surgery is often required to manage complete AFFs,clear guidelines for the surgical treatment of AFFs are currently sparse.We reviewed and described the surgical treatment of AFFs and the surveillance of the contralateral femur.For complete AFFs,cephalomedullary intramedullary nailing spanning the entire length of the femur can be used.Various surgical techniques to overcome the femoral bowing common in AFFs include a lateral entry point,external rotation of the nail,and the use of a nail with a small radius of curvature,or a contralateral nail.In the case of a narrow medullary canal,severe femoral bowing,or pre-existing implants,plate fixation may be considered as an alternative.For incomplete AFFs,prophylactic fixation depends on several risk factors,such as a subtrochanteric location,presence of a radiolucent line,functional pain,and condition of the contralateral femur;the same surgical principles as those in complete AFFs can be applied.Finally,once AFF is diagnosed,clinicians should recognize the increased risk of contralateral AFFs,and close surveillance of the contralateral femur is recommended.Bum-Jin Shim Heejae Won Shin-Yoon Kim Seung-Hoon Baek 2023World Journal of Orthopedics2023,14,5:0
