| 3 | Minimally invasive surgery alone compared with intensity-modulated radiotherapy for primary stage I nasopharyngeal carcinoma显示文摘Background:The National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines recommend intensity-modulated radiotherapy(IMRT)as the primary curative treatment for newly diagnosed nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC),but the radiation-related complications and relatively high medical costs remain a consequential burden for the patients.Endoscopic nasopharyngectomy(ENPG)was successfully applied in recurrent NPC with radiation free and relatively low medical costs.In this study,we examined whether ENPG could be an effective treatment for localized stage I NPC.Methods:Ten newly diagnosed localized stage I NPC patients voluntarily received ENPG alone from June 2007 to September 2017 in Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center.Simultaneously,the data of 329 stage I NPC patients treated with IMRT were collected and used as a reference cohort.The survival outcomes,quality of life(QOL),and medical costs between two groups were compared.Results:After a median follow-up of 59.0 months(95%CI 53.4-64.6),no death,locoregional recurrence,or distant metastasis was observed in the 10 patients treated with ENPG.The 5-year overall survival,local relapse-free survival,regional relapse-free survival,and distant metastasis-free survival among the ENPG-treated patients was similar to that among the IMRT-treated patients(100%vs.99.1%,100%vs.97.7%,100%vs.99.0%,100%vs.97.4%,respectively,P>0.05).In addition,compared with IMRT,ENPG was associated with decreased total medical costs($4090.42±1502.65 vs.$12620.88±4242.65,P<0.001)and improved QOL scores including dry mouth(3.3±10.5 vs.34.4±25.8,P<0.001)and sticky saliva(3.3±10.5 vs.32.6±23.3,P<0.001).Conclusions:ENPG alone was associated with promising long-term survival outcomes,low medical costs,and satisfactory QOL and might therefore be an alternative strategy for treating newly diagnosed localized stage I NPC patients who refused radiotherapy.However,the application of ENPG should be prudent,and prospective clinical tri-als were needed to further verify the results. | You-Ping Liu Xing Lv Xiong Zou Yi-Jun Hua Rui You Qi Yang Le Xia Shao-Yan Guo Wen Hu Meng-Xia Zhang Si-Yuan Chen Mei Lin Yu-Long Xie Li-Zhi Liu Rui Sun Pei-Yu Huang Wei Fan Xiang Guo Ming-Huang Hong Ming-Yuan Chen | 2019 | Cancer Communications2019,39,1: | 17 |

| 6 | PARylation regulates stress granule dynamics, phase separation, and neurotoxicity of disease-related RNA-binding proteins显示文摘Mutations in RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) localized in ribonucleoprotein (RNP) granules, such as hnRNP A1 and TDP-43, promote aberrant protein aggregation, which is a pathological hallmark of various neurodegenerative diseases, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Protein posttranslational modifications (PTMs) are known to 佗gulate RNP granules. In this study, we investigate the function of poly(ADP-ribosyl)ation (PARylation), an important PTM involved in DNA damage repair and cell death, in RNP granule-related neurodegeneration. We reveal that PARylation levels are a major regulator of the assembly-disassembly dynamics of RNP granules containing disease-related RBPs, hnRNP A1 and TDP-43. We find that hnRNP A1 can both be PARylated and bind to PARylated proteins or poly(ADP-ribose)(PAR). We further uncover that PARylation of hnRNP A1 at K298 controls its nucleocytoplasmic transport, whereas PAR-binding via the PAR-binding motif (PBM) of hnRNP Al regulates its association with stress granules. Moreover, we reveal that PAR not only dramatically enhances the liquid-liquid phase separation of hnRNP A1, but also promotes the co-phase separation of hnRNP A1 and TDP-43 in vitro and their interaction in vivo. Finally, both genetic and pharmacological inhibition of PARP mitigates hnRNP Al- and TDP-43-mediated neurotoxicity in cell and Drosophila models of ALS. | 9 | Population-level economic burden of lung cancer in China:Provisional prevalence-based estimations,2017-2030显示文摘Objective:Population-level economic burden is essential for prioritizing healthcare resources and healthcare budget making in the future.However,little is known about the economic burden of lung cancer in China.Methods:A prevalence-based approach was adopted to estimate the economic burden of lung cancer,including direct expenditure(medical and non-medical)and indirect cost(disability and premature death).Data on direct expenditure and work-loss days per patient in each year post-diagnosis were obtained from two primary surveys.Other parameters were obtained from literatures and official reports.Projections were conducted based on varying parameters.All expenditure data were reported in United States dollars(USD)using 2017 value(exchange rate:1 USD=6.760 CNY),with the discount rate of 3%.Results:The total economic burden of lung cancer was estimated to be 25,069 million USD in China in 2017(0.121%of gross domestic productivity,GDP).The estimated direct expenditure was 11,098 million USD,up to1.43%of total healthcare expenditure for China,covering 10,303 million USD and 795 million USD for medical and non-medical expenditure,respectively.The estimated indirect cost was 13,971 million,including 1,517 million USD due to disability and 12,454 million USD due to premature death.Under current assumptions,the projected total economic burden would increase to 30.1 billion USD,40.4 billion USD,and 53.4 billion USD in 2020,2025,and 2030,accounting for 0.121%,0.131%,and 0.146%of China's GDP,respectively.However,if China meets the United Nation sustainable development goal of reducing premature death from non-communicable diseases by one-third by 2030,the total economic burden in 2030 would be 31.9 billion USD,0.087%of China's GDP.Conclusions:The economic burden of lung cancer in China in 2017 is substantial and more likely to increase significantly in the future.Policy makers need to take urgent actions in budget making for health systems.The economic burden could be alleviated by reducing the disease burden of lung cancer via effective control and prevention actions. | Chengcheng Liu Jufang Shi Hong Wang Xinxin Yan Le Wang Jiansong Ren Mark Parascandola Wanqing Chen Alin Dai | 2021 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2021,33,1: | 6 |

The reasons of catalyst deactivation were analyzed by the methods of elemental analysis, BET and TG-MS. The results showed that the catalyst deactivation rate was notable at the beginning of run, and then gradually reached a steady state after 448 h. In the initial period the catalyst deactivation may mainly be caused by the formation of the carbon deposits. The carbon deposits blocked the catalyst pores and the accessibility of active center decreased. The TG-MS analysis identified three types of carbon species deposited on the catalysts, viz.: the low temperature carbon deposit with high H/C atomic ratio, the medium temperature carbon deposit, and the high temperature carbon with low H/C atomic ratio. | 16 | Fruit and vegetable consumption and its relation to risk of asthenopia among Chinese college students显示文摘AIM: To investigate the associations between fruit and vegetable consumption and risk of asthenopia among Chinese college students.METHODS: A total of 1022 students were selected from five universities by a multi-stage stratified cluster sampling method. They were surveyed via a self-administered questionnaire including socio-demographic features,dietary and lifestyle habits, eye-related symptoms, eye care habits and history of diseases. Ascertainment of asthenopia was based on participants' subjectively reported symptoms. The associations between fruit and vegetable intake with asthenopia risk were assessed using multivariate logistic regression analysis.RESULTS: There were no significant associations between total fruit and vegetable, total vegetable, or fruit and the risk of asthenopia. Higher intake of dark-green leafy vegetable was likely to be inversely associated with asthenopia risk [odd ratio(OR): 0.60; 95%CI: 0.37-0.97;P_(trend)=0.21] after controlling for nondietary and dietary risk factors. | 18 | Postoperative survival analysis and prognostic nomogram model for patients with portal hypertension显示文摘AIM To analyse the postoperative survival of patients with portal hypertension and determine the factors that influence survival and construct nomograms.METHODS We retrospectively followed 1045 patients who underwent splenectomy plus pericardial devascularisation(SPD) between January 2002 and December 2017. Two SPD types are used in our department: splenectomy plus simplified pericardial devascularisation(SSPD) and splenectomy plus traditional pericardial devascularisation(STPD). The Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regression analysis were used to evaluate the prognostic effects of multiple parameters on overall survival(OS), diseasespecific survival(DSS) and bleeding-free survival(BFS). Significant prognostic factors were combined to build nomograms to predict the survival rate of individual patients.RESULTS Five hundred and fifty-seven(53.30%) patients weresuccessfully followed with 192 in the SSPD group and 365 in the STPD group; 93(16.70%) patients died, of whom 42(7.54%) died due to bleeding. Postoperative bleeding was observed in 84(15.10%) patients. The 5-and 10-year OS, DSS and BFS rates in the group of patients who underwent SSPD were not significantly different from those in patients who underwent STPD. Independent prognostic factors for OS were age, operative time, alanine transaminase level and albumin-bilirubin score. Independent prognostic factors for BFS were male sex, age, intraoperative blood loss and time to first flatus. Independent prognostic factors for DSS were the Comprehensive Complication Index and age. These characteristics were used to establish nomograms, which showed good accuracy in predicting 1-, 3-and 5-year OS and BFS.CONCLUSION SSPD achieves or surpasses the long-term survival effect of traditional pericardial devascularisation and is worthy of clinical promotion and application. Herein,we introduce a new method of individualized minimally invasive treatment for hydrocele.AIM To present a new method for the treatment of adult testicular hydrocele.METHODS Fifty-two adult patients with idiopathic testicular hydrocele were included. The key point of this procedure was that the scope of the resection of the sheath of the tunica vaginalis was determined according to the maximum diameter(d) of the effusion measured by ultrasound and the maximum diameter of the portion of the sheath pulled out of the scrotum was approximately πd/2. The surgical procedure consisted of a 2-cm incision in the anterior wall of the scrotum,drainage of the effusion,and dissection of part of the sheath of the tunica vaginalis. After the sheath was peeled away to the predetermined target extent,the pulled-out sheath was removed. The intraoperative findings and postoperative complications were analyzed.RESULTS All patients were successfully treated with a median operation time of 18 min.The median maximum diameter of the effusion on ultrasound was 3.5 cm,and the median maximum diameter of the resected sheath was 5.5 cm. Complications occurred in four(7.7%) patients: two(3.8%) cases of mild scrotal edema,one(1.9%) case of scrotal hematoma,and one(1.9%) case of wound infection. All of the complications were grade I-II. Recurrent hydrocele,chronic scrotal pain,and testicular atrophy were not observed during a median follow-up of 12 mo.CONCLUSION We report a new technique for individualized treatment of testicular hydrocele,which is quantitative and minimally invasive and yields good outcomes. | 20 | NF-κB and FosB mediate inflammation and oxidative stress in the blast lung injury of rats exposed to shock waves显示文摘Blast lung injury(BLI)is the major cause of death in explosion-derived shock waves;however,the mechanisms of BLI are not well understood.To identify the time-dependent manner of BLI,a model of lung injury of rats induced by shock waves was established by a fuel air explosive.The model was evaluated by hematoxylin and eosin staining and pathological score.The inflammation and oxidative stress of lung injury were also investigated.The pathological scores of rats’lung injury at 2 h,24 h,3 days,and 7 days post-blast were 9.75±2.96,13.00±1.85,8.50±1.51,and 4.00±1.41,respectively,which were significantly increased compared with those in the control group(1.13±0.64;P<0.05).The respiratory frequency and pause were increased significantly,while minute expiratory volume,inspiratory time,and inspiratory peak flow rate were decreased in a time-dependent manner at 2 and 24 h post-blast compared with those in the control group.In addition,the expressions of inflammatory factors such as interleukin(IL)-6,IL-8,FosB,and NF-κB were increased significantly at 2 h and peaked at 24 h,which gradually decreased after 3 days and returned to normal in 2 weeks.The levels of total antioxidant capacity,total superoxide dismutase,and glutathione peroxidase were significantly decreased 24 h after the shock wave blast.Conversely,the malondialdehyde level reached the peak at 24 h.These results indicated that inflammatory and oxidative stress induced by shock waves changed significantly in a time-dependent manner,which may be the important factors and novel therapeutic targets for the treatment of BLI. | Hong Wang Wenjuan Zhang Jinren Liu Junhong Gao Le Fang Zhiyong Liu Baoqing Xia Xiaolin Fan Cunzhi Li Qing Lu Airong Qian | 2021 | Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2021,53,3: | 4 |
