1Disaster prevention design criteria for the estuarine cities:New Orleans and Shanghai The lesson from Hurricane Katrina显示文摘The accurate prediction of the typhoon (hurricane) induced extreme sea environments is very important for the coastal structure design in areas influenced by typhoon (hurricane). In 2005 Hurricane Katrina brought a severe catastrophe in New Orleans by combined effects of hurricane induced extreme sea environments and upper flood of the Mississippi River. Like the New Orleans City, Shanghai is located at the estuarine area of the Changjiang River and the combined effect of typhoon induced extreme sea environments, flood peak runoff from the Changjiang River coupled with the spring tide is the dominate factor for disaster prevention design criteria. The Poisson-nested logistic trivariate compound extreme value distribution (PNLTCEVD) is a new type of joint probability model which is proposed by compounding a discrete distribution (typhoon occurring frequency) into a continuous multivariate joint distribution (typhoon induced extreme events). 2A low-complexity ECG processing algorithm based on the Haar wavelet transform for portable health-care devices显示文摘This paper presents a simple Electrocardiogram(ECG)processing algorithm for portable healthcare devices.This algorithm consists of the Haar wavelet transform(HWT),the modulus maxima pair detection(MMPD)and the peak position modification(PPM).To lessen the computational complexity,a novel no multiplier structure is introduced to implement HWT.In the MMPD,the HWT coefficient at scale 24is processed to find candidate peak positions of ECG.The PPM is designed to correct the time shift in digital process and accurately determine the location of peaks.Some new methods are proposed to improve anti-jamming performance in MMPD and PPM.Evaluated by the MIT-BIH arrhythmia database,the sensitivity(Se)of QRS detection is 99.53%and the positive prediction(Pr)of QRS detection is 99.70%.The QT database is chosen to fully validate this algorithm in complete delineation of ECG waveform.The meanμand standard deviationσbetween test results and annotations are calculated.Most ofσsatisfies the CSE limits which indicates that the results are stable and reliable.A detailed and rigorous computational complexity analysis is presented in this paper.The number of arithmetic operations in N input samples is chosen as the criterion of complexity.Without any multiplication operations,the number of addition operations is only about 16.33N.This algorithm achieves high detection accuracy and the lower computational complexity.LI Peng LIU Ming ZHANG Xu CHEN HongDa 2014Science China(Information Sciences)2014,57,12:13

4Motility-based label-free detection of parasites in bodily fluids using holographic speckle analysis and deep learning显示文摘Parasitic infections constitute a major global public health issue.Existing screening methods that are based on manual microscopic examination often struggle to provide sufficient volumetric throughput and sensitivity to facilitate early diagnosis.Here,we demonstrate a motility-based label-free computational imaging platform to rapidly detect motile parasites in optically dense bodily fluids by utilizing the locomotion of the parasites as a specific biomarker and endogenous contrast mechanism.Based on this principle,a cost-effective and mobile instrument,which rapidly screens~3.2 mL of fluid sample in three dimensions,was built to automatically detect and count motile microorganisms using their holographic time-lapse speckle patterns.We demonstrate the capabilities of our platform by detecting trypanosomes,which are motile protozoan parasites,with various species that cause deadly diseases affecting millions of people worldwide.Using a holographic speckle analysis algorithm combined with deep learningbased classification,we demonstrate sensitive and label-free detection of trypanosomes within spiked whole blood and artificial cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)samples,achieving a limit of detection of ten trypanosomes per mL of whole blood(~five-fold better than the current state-of-the-art parasitological method)and three trypanosomes per mL of CSF.We further demonstrate that this platform can be applied to detect other motile parasites by imaging Trichomonas vaginalis,the causative agent of trichomoniasis,which affects 275 million people worldwide.With its costeffective,portable design and rapid screening time,this unique platform has the potential to be applied for sensitive and timely diagnosis of neglected tropical diseases caused by motile parasites and other parasitic infections in resource-limited regions.Yibo Zhang Hatice Ceylan Koydemir Michelle M.Shimogawa Sener Yalcin Alexander Guziak Tairan Liu Ilker Oguz Yujia Huang Bijie Bai Yilin Luo Yi Luo Zhensong Wei Hongda Wang Vittorio Bianco Bohan Zhang Rohan Nadkarni Kent Hill Aydogan Ozcan 2018Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1:6
5Experimental Study on Interaction Between Degrees of Freedom in a Wave Buoy显示文摘Increasing degrees of freedom(DOFs)is a useful way to raise the power capture efficiency of oscillating wave energy converters.Thus,this study proposes a buoy with three DOFs,which are surge,heave,and pitch.The hydrodynamic performance and power capture efficiency of the buoy is physically modeled.Amplitudes of unidirectional and coupled motions are compared to analyze the interaction effect between freedoms under conditions with and without power take-off damping.The capture width ratio and corresponding growth rates are also calculated.Results show that the buoy makes a periodic sinusoidal(or approximate)movement in every DOF.Coupling effect can cause an increase in the amplitude in one DOF and a decrease in the amplitudes of the others.This phenomenon shows that the kinematic energy of the buoy redistributes to all DOFs compared with the unidirectional conditions.Adding DOFs can improve the power absorption of the buoy in most cases,but the number of DOFs is not the more the better.HUANG Shuting SHI Hongda CAO Feifei TAN Junzhe CHENG Haixun LI Demin LIU Shangze GONG Haoxiang TAO Ji 2019Journal of Ocean University of China2019,18,6:5

8Novel wavelet neural network algorithm for continuous and noninvasive dynamic estimation of blood pressure from photoplethysmography显示文摘This paper proposes a novel wavelet neural network algorithm for the continuous and noninvasive dynamic estimation of blood pressure(BP). Unlike prior algorithms, the proposed algorithm capitalizes on the correlation between photoplethysmography(PPG) and BP. Complete BP waveforms are reconstructed based on PPG signals to extract systolic blood pressure(SBP) and diastolic blood pressure(DBP). To improve the robustness, Daubechies wavelet is implemented as the hidden layer node function for the neural network. An optimized neural network structure is proposed to reduce the computational complexity. Further, this paper investigates an inhomogeneous resilient backpropagation(IRBP) algorithm to calculate the weight of hidden layer nodes. The IRBP improves the convergence speed and reconstruction accuracy. Multiparameter intelligent monitoring in Intensive Care(MIMIC) databases, which contain a variety of physiological parameters captured from patient monitors, are used to validate this algorithm. The standard deviation σ between reconstructed and actual BP signals is 4.4797 mm Hg, which satisfies the American National Standards of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation. 9Characteristics of Breccias and C-O-Sr-S Isotope Geochemistry of the Duocaima Pb-Zn Deposit in Tuotuohe, Qinghai Province: Implications for the Ore-forming Process显示文摘The Duocaima carbonate-hosted Pb-Zn deposit is a newly found large deposit in the southern area of Qinghai Province.In this paper, the characteristics, genesis, significance to Pb-Zn mineralization of the widely developed breccias, and the ore-forming process have been carefully studied based on geological documentation of drilling holes, microscopic observations of petrography and microstructure and some stable isotope measurements.Based on the compositions of the clast and matrix, the breccias can be classified into three types: limestone clasts cemented by marl; limestone clasts with fine-grained calcareous materials; and limestone clasts cemented by hydrothermal calcite.The mineralization in the first type of breccia is weak, whereas it is strong in the latter two types of breccias.According to the locations of occurrence and structural characteristics of the breccias along with the relationship between the breccias and mineralization, part of the limestone clasts that are cemented by marl and outcrop in the contact zone between the Wudaoliang Formation(Nw) and the underlying Jiushidaoban Formation(Pj) are attributed to synsedimentary fault-genetic breccia, whereas the last of the limestone clasts that are cemented by marl and developed in the Jiushidaoban Formation(Pj) are attributed to the breccia generated by karst cave collapse; the limestone clasts with fine-grained calcareous materials and the limestone clasts cemented by hydrothermal calcite are attributed to breccia formed by hydrothermal dissolution.The breccia formed by karst collapse had consistently evolved for a long period of time, while the breccias with other origins were formed around the period of mineralization(i.e., about or slightly later than 20–16 Ma).The breccia generated by karst cave collapse and hydrothermal dissolution are somewhat related; the formation of the breccia from karst cave collapse provided open space for the later mineralization and reaction between hydrothermal fluids and host rocks, and the subsequent strong dissolution by hydrothermal fluids transformed some of the breccia formed earlier by karst cave collapse.Meanwhile, carbonate host rocks with breccias and brecciaed mineralization can be a potential sign of Mississippi Valley Type(MVT) deposits and important indicators for regional mineral exploration.The δ13CV-PDB, δ18OVSMOW, and 87Sr/86 Sr values of hydrothermal calcite in the Duocaima deposit range from 4.3‰ to 7.1‰, 14.9‰ to 20.1‰, and 0.707494 to 0.708185, respectively; the δ13CV-PDB, δ18OV-SMOW, and 87Sr/86 Sr values of the host limestones of the Jiushidaoban Formation range from 3.6‰ to 5.3‰, 18.0‰ to 20.5‰, and 0.707372 to 0.707945, respectively.The δ13CV-PDB and 87Sr/86 Sr values of hydrothermal calcite and limestone are similar, indicating single sources of C and Sr in this deposit, with the likely source being the limestone of the Jiushidaoban Formation.The minor scattering of the δ18OV-SMOW values suggests that different O isotope fluids underwent the isotope exchange reaction.The C-O-Sr isotope characteristics indicate that the host limestones experienced a dissolution and precipitation process during mineralization, which is beneficial to improving the porosity of host rocks and promoting the precipitation of metal sulfides.The δ34SV-CDT value of the breccia-type mineralization sulfides ranges from-30.4‰ to-0.3‰; that is, the δ34SV-CDT value is negative with considerable variation, illustrating that during the breccia-type mineralization process, the bacteriogenic reduction of sulfates provided the vast majority of sulfur, whereas the thermochemical reduction of sulfates was relatively unimportant.The brecciation that occurred as a result of karst cave collapse was mainly generated by the dissolution of groundwater; however, the brecciation related to hydrothermal dissolution and mineralization processes were caused by mixing of different fluids.HAO Hongda SONG Yucai LI Liansong JIA Zongyong WANG Yuankui LIU Qun 2015Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2015,89,5:4
10Study on the Breakwater Caisson as Oscillating Water Column Facility显示文摘The Oscillating Water Column(OWC) wave energy convertor with the advantage of its simple geometrical construction and excellent stability is widely employed.Recently,perforated breakwaters have been often used as they can effectively reduce the wave reflection from and wave forces acting on the structures.Considering the similarity between the compartment of perforated caisson and the air chamber of OWC wave energy convertor,a new perforated caisson of breakwater is designed in this paper.The ordinary caisson is modified by installing facilities similar to the air chamber of OWC converter,but here they are utilized to dissipate the wave energy inside the caisson.Such an arrangement improves the stability of the caisson and reduces the construction cost by using the compartment of perforated caisson like using an air chamber.This innovation has both academic significance and important engineering value.For a new type of caisson,reliability analysis of the structure is necessary.Linear potential flow theory is applied to calculate the horizontal wave force acting on the caisson.The calculated results are compared with experimental data,showing the feasibility of the method.The Importance Sampling Procedure(ISP) is used to analyse the reliability of this caisson breakwater.HUANG Yan SHI Hongda LIU Defu LIU Zhen 2010Journal of Ocean University of China2010,9,3:4
11A novel approach framework based on statistics for reconstruction and heartrate estimation from PPG with heavy motion artifacts显示文摘One of the most important applications of photoplethysmography(PPG) signal is heartrate(HR)estimation. For its applications in wearable devices, motion artifact(MA) may be the most serious challenge for randomness both in format and temporal distribution. This paper proposes an advanced time-frequency analysis framework based on empirical mode decomposition(EMD) to select specific time slices for signal reconstruction. This framework operates with a type of pre-processing called variance characterization series(VCS), EMD, singular value decomposition(SVD), and a precise and adaptive 2-D filtration reported first.This filtration is based on Harr wavelet transform(HWT) and 3 rd order cumulant analysis, to make it have resolution in both the time domain and different components. The simulation results show that the proposed method gains 1.07 in absolute average error(AAE) and 1.87 in standard deviation(SD); AAEs' 1 st and 3 rd quartiles are 0.12 and 1.41, respectively. 13Carbonaceous Nanofibers-titanium Dioxide Nanocomposites: Synthesis and Use as a Platform for Removal of Dye Pollutants显示文摘A mild chemistry route was developed to prepare carbonaceous nanofibers-titanium dioxide(CNF-TiO_2) nanocomposites for removal of dye pollutants. In the process of the template-directed hydrothermal carbonization(HTC), ultrathin Te nanowires were adopted as templates and glucose as the carbon source, and TiO_2 was decorated on CNF via the hydrolysis of tetrabutyltitanate in the presence of CNF in ethanol. The as-prepared materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM), transmission electron microscopy(TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray(EDX) and X-ray diffraction(XRD). SEM and TEM observations displayed that TiO_2 nanoparticles were anchored on the CNF. EDX and XRD data confirmed that the assynthesized samples were CNF-TiO_2, and TiO_2 belonged to anatase titania. Taking advantage of combined benefits of carbonaceous nanofibers and titanium dioxide, these CNF-TiO_2 nanocomposites exhibited higher removal efficiency in a short time and showed good reusability. It was showed that over 97% of Rhodamine B could be removed in 15 min without generating the solid and liquid wastes. The removal efficiency of dyes was still over 80% after reuse in five cycles. 16A compact neural recording interface based on silicon microelectrode显示文摘A prototype of hybrid neural recording interface has been developed for extracellular neural recording.It consists of a silicon-based plane microelectrode array and a CMOS low noise neural amplifier chip.The neural amplifier chip is designed and implemented in 0.18 m N-well CMOS 1P6M technology.The area of the neural preamplifier is only 0.042 mm2with a gain of 48.3 dB.The input equivalent noise is 4.73μ Vrms within pass bands of 4 kHz.To avoid cable tethering for high dense multichannel neural recording interface and make it compact,flip-chip bonding is used to integrate the preamplifier chip and the microelectrode together.The hybrid device measures 3 mm×5.5 mm×330μm,which is convenient for implant or in-vivo neural recording.The hybrid device was testified in in-vivo experiment.Neural signals were recorded from hippocampus region of anesthetized Sprague Dawley rats successfully.HAN JianQiang ZHANG Xu PEI WeiHua GUI Qiang LIU Ming CHEN HongDa 2013Science China(Technological Sciences)2013,56,11:2
17Fabrication of iridium oxide neural electrodes at the wafer level显示文摘Electro-deposition, electrical activation, thermal oxidation, and reactive ion sputtering are the four primary methods to fabricate iridium oxide film. Among these methods, reactive ion sputtering is a commonly used method in standard micro-fabrication processes. In different sputtering conditions, the component, texture, and electrochemistry character of iridium oxide varies considerably. To fabricate the iridium oxide film compatible with the wafer-level processing of neural electrodes, the quality of iridium oxide film must be able to withstand the mechanical and chemical impact of post-processing, and simultaneously achieve good performance as a neural electrode. In this study, parameters of sputtering were researched and developed to achieve a balance between mechanical stability and good electrochemical characteristics of iridium oxide film on electrode. Iridium oxide fabricating process combined with fabrication flow of silicon electrodes, at wafer-level, is introduced to produce silicon based planar iridium oxide neural electrodes. 18Study on Hydraulic System Efficiency of Heaving-Buoy Wave Energy Converter显示文摘The hydraulic system is the key component in the widely used wave energy converters(WEC).In this paper,we theoretically analyze and describe our investigation of the efficiency of the hydraulic system by simulation and model testing of the combined heaving-buoy WEC.We derive a new governing equation that includes nonlinear hydraulic resistance in the power take-off(PTO).We conducted a physical model experiment based on a 100-kW prototype and applied a hydraulic system with an energy accumulator.The model test results reveal an important parameter related to efficiency with respect to nonlinear hydraulic resistance.We also studied the relationship between the efficiency and the initial conditions.Finally,based on our numerical simulation results,we discuss the effect on efficiency of the gas content of the hydraulic fluid and ways to reduce its impact.SHI Hongda ZHAO Chenyu LIU Zhen CAO Feifei 2018Journal of Ocean University of China2018,17,5:2
19NiO nanosheet assembles for supercapacitor electrode materials显示文摘In this paper, large scale hierarchically assembled Ni O nanosheets have been favorably fabricated through a facile hydrothermal route. The as-prepared Ni O nanosheet assembles were characterized in detail by various analytical techniques. The results showed these nanosheets present the thickness of about 30 nm and the surface area is 116.9 m^2 g^(-1).
