2Altered trends in carbon uptake in China’s terrestrial ecosystems under the enhanced summer monsoon and warming hiatus显示文摘The carbon budgets in terrestrial ecosystems in China are strongly coupled with climate changes.Over the past decade,China has experienced dramatic climate changes characterized by enhanced summer monsoon and decelerated warming.However,the changes in the trends of terrestrial net ecosystem production(NEP)in China under climate changes are not well documented.Here,we used three ecosystem models to simulate the spatiotemporal variations in China's NEP during 1982–2010 and quantify the contribution of the strengthened summer monsoon and warming hiatus to the NEP variations in four distinct climatic regions of the country.Our results revealed a decadal-scale shift in NEP from a downtrend of–5.95 Tg C/yr^2(reduced sink)during 1982–2000 to an uptrend of 14.22 Tg C/yr^2(enhanced sink)during 2000–10.This shift was essentially induced by the strengthened summer monsoon,which stimulated carbon uptake,and the warming hiatus,which lessened the decrease in the NEP trend.Compared to the contribution of 56.3%by the climate effect,atmospheric CO2 concentration and nitrogen deposition had relatively small contributions(8.6 and 11.3%,respectively)to the shift.In conclusion,within the context of the global-warming hiatus,the strengthening of the summer monsoon is a critical climate factor that enhances carbon uptake in China due to the asymmetric response of photosynthesis and respiration.Our study not only revealed the shift in ecosystem carbon sequestration in China in recent decades,but also provides some insight for understanding ecosystem carbon dynamics in other monsoonal areas.Honglin He Shaoqiang Wang Li Zhang Junbang Wang Xiaoli Ren Lei Zhou Shilong Piao Hao Yan Weimin Ju Fengxue Gu Shiyong Yu Yuanhe Yang Miaomiao Wang Zhongen Niu Rcmg Ge Huimin Yan Mei Huang Guoyi Zhou Yongfei Bai Zongqiang Xie Zhiyao Tang Bingfang Wu Leiming Zhang Nianpeng He Qiufeng Wang Guirui Yu 2019National Science Review2019,6,3:24
3Internal structure of Longmenshan fault zone at Hongkou outcrop,Sichuan,China,that caused the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake显示文摘This paper reports the internal structures of the Beichuan fault zone of Longmenshan fault system that caused the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake,at an outcrop in Hongkou,Sichuan province,China.Present work is a part of comprehensive project of Institute of Geology,China Earthquake Administration,trying to understand deformation processes in Longmenshan fault zones and eventually to reproduce Wenchuan earthquake by modeling based on measured mechanical and transport properties.Outcrop studies could be integrated with those performed on samples recovered from fault zone drilling,during the Wenchuan Earthquake Fault Scientific Drilling(WFSD) Project,to understand along-fault and depth variation of fault zone properties.The hanging wall side of the fault zone consists of weakly-foliated,clayey fault gouge of about 1 m in width and of several fault breccia zones of 30-40 m in total width.We could not find any pseudotachylite at this outcrop.Displacement during the Wenchuan earthquake is highly localized within the fault gouge layer along narrower slipping-zones of about 10 to 20 mm in width.This is an important constraint for analyzing thermal pressurization,an important dynamic weakening mechanism of faults.Overlapping patterns of striations on slickenside surface suggest that seismic slip at a given time occurred in even narrower zone of a few to several millimeters,so that localization of deformation must have occurred within a slipping zone during coseismic fault motion.Fault breccia zones are bounded by thin black gouge layers containing amorphous carbon.Fault gouge contains illite and chlorite minerals,but not smectite.Clayey fault gouge next to coseismic slipping zone also contains amorphous carbon and small amounts of graphite.The structural observations and mineralogical data obtained from outcrop exposures of the fault zone of the Wenchuan earthquake can be compared with those obtained from the WFSD-1 and WFSD-2 boreholes, which have been drilled very close to the Hongkou outcrop.The presence of carbon and graphite,observed next to the slipping-zone,may affect the mechanical properties of the fault and also provide useful information about coseismic chemical changes.Tetsuhiro Togo Toshihiko Shimamoto Shengli Ma Xueze Wen Honglin He 2011Earthquake Science2011,24,3:19

7Effects of High-temperature Char Layer and Pyrolysis Gas on NOx Reduction in a Typical Decoupling Combustion Coal-fired Stove显示文摘The suppression of nitrogen oxides(NO_x) is the key to reducing pollutant emission of a domestic coal-fired stove due to the limitation of technology condition and economic cost. The decoupling combustion(DC) technology invented by Institute of Process Engineering(IPE), Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS) is characterized by that a traditional stove is separated into a pyrolysis and a combustion chamber as well as a bottom passage between them. In this study, the combustion of briquette from bituminous coal in different operation modes in a typical decoupling stove is tested and simulated to validate the advantage of DC technology over so-called reverse combustion. The smokeless and high-efficiency combustion of bituminous briquette with low emissions of NO_x and CO can be implemented by utilizing low NO_x combustion under low temperature and reduction atmosphere in the pyrolysis chamber as well as after-combustion of char and pyrolysis gas under high temperature and oxidation atmosphere in the combustion chamber. 9Estimation of diffuse photosynthetically active radiation and the spatiotemporal variation analysis in China from 1981 to 2010显示文摘Photosynthetically active radiation(PAR) is the energy source of plant photosynthesis, and the diffuse component can enhance canopy light use efficiency, thereby increasing the carbon uptake. Therefore, diffuse PAR is an important driving factor of ecosystem productivity models. In this study, we estimated the diffuse PAR of over 700 meteorological sites in China from 1981 to 2010 using an empirical model based on observational data from Chinese Ecosystem Research Network(CERN) and China Meteorology Administration. Then we derived the spatial data set of 10 km monthly diffuse PAR using ANUSPLIN software, and analyzed the spatiotemporal variation characteristics of diffuse PAR through GIS and trend analysis techniques. The results showed that:(1) The spatial patterns of annual average diffuse PAR during 1981–2010 are heterogeneous across China, lower in the northeast and higher in the west and south. The nationwide average value for 30 years ranges from 6.66 mol m-2 d-1 to 15.27 mol m-2 d-1, and the value in summer is the biggest while the value in winter is the smallest.(2) There is an evident increasing trend of annual diffuse PAR during recent 30 years, with the increasing amplitude at 0.03 mol m-2 d-1/10a. But a significant declining trend is shown in the first 10 years, and obvious anomalies can be seen in 1982, 1983, 1991 and 1992. 10Internal structures and high-velocity frictional properties of Longmenshan fault zone at Shenxigou activated during the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake显示文摘This paper reports internal structures of a wide fault zone at Shenxigou,Dujiangyan,Sichuan province,China,and high-velocity frictional properties of the fault gouge collected near the coseismic slip zone during the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake.Vertical offset and horizontal displacement at the trench site were 2.8 m(NW side up)and 4.8 m(right-lateral),respectively.The fault zone formed in Triassic sandstone,siltstone,and shale about 500 m away from the Yingxiu-Beichuan fault,a major fault in the Longmenshan fault system.A trench survey across the coseismic fault,and observations of outcrops and drill cores down to a depth of 57 m revealed that the fault zone consists of fault gouge and fault breccia of about0.5 and 250–300 m in widths,respectively,and that the fault strikes N62°E and dips 68° to NW.Quaternary conglomerates were recovered beneath the fault in the drilling,so that the fault moved at least 55 m along the coseismic slip zone,experiencing about 18 events of similar sizes.The fault core is composed of grayish gouge(GG) and blackish gouge(BG) with very complex slip-zone structures.BG contains low-crystalline graphite of about 30 %.High-velocity friction experiments were conducted at normal stresses of 0.6–2.1 MPa and slip rates of 0.1–2.1 m/s.Both GG and BG exhibit dramatic slip weakening at constant high slip rates that can be described as an exponential decay from peak friction coefficient lpto steadystate friction coefficient lssover a slip-weakening distance Dc.Deformation of GG and BG is characterized by overlapped slip-zone structures and development of sharp slickenside surfaces,respectively.Comparison of our data with those reported for other outcrops indicates that the high-velocity frictional properties of the Longmenshan fault zones are quite uniform and the high-velocity weakening must have promoted dynamic rupture propagation during the Wenchuan earthquake.Yu Wang Shengli Ma Toshihiko Shimamoto Lu Yao Jianye Chen Xiaosong Yang Honglin He Jiaxiang Dang Linfeng Hou Tetsuhiro Togo 2014Earthquake Science2014,27,5:3
11Near-field postseismic deformation along the rupture of 2008 Wenchuan earthquake and its implications显示文摘At first time,we observed the postseismic deformation,which actually is a kind of creep after slip,along the intra-plate active fault associated with the Wenchuan earthquake.To understand the near-field postseismic deformation following 2008 Wenchuan earthquake in Sichuan Province of China,we compared the fault scarp or flexure scarp profiles measured in different campaigns.Our result shows that among total 19 observation sites,on 13 sites (68% of 19) fault scarps fall back with an average about 9.7% decrease;on 5 sites (26% of 19) fault scarps present no change;and on one site (6% of 19) fault scarp continues to uplift with 12.8% increase.The variety of fault scarp we observed results mainly from near-field postseismic deformation,after slip occurred in shallow.Based on our observations,the following are demonstrated: except for the southwestern end near Yingxiu Town where coseismic slip deficit and some elastic energy residue exist there,fall back (68%) or non-changing (26%) of fault scarp shows energy balance or energy deficit due to overthrust,implying that the likelihood of occurrence of strong aftershocks of ≥ M7 becomes very small in these energy-released areas.Moreover,we suggest that a minimum of 10% error due to near-field postseismic deformation should be considered when evaluating the magnitude of historic and paleoearthquake or slip rate based on the fault scarp displacement,even though the error caused by erosion has been accounted already.HE HongLin WEI ZhanYu SHI Feng SUN HaoYue 2010Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,23:3

16Identify Can didate Genes in the Interactio n betwee n Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus by Using Biomedical Discovery Support System显示文摘Objective To explore the candidate genes that play significant roles in the interconnection between abdominal aortic aneurysm(AAA)and type 2 diabetes mellitus(DM).Methods We used the Biomedical Discovery Support System(BITOLA)to screen out the candidate intermediate molecular(CIM)'Gene or Gene Product”that are related to AAA and DM.The dataset of GSE13760,GSE7084,GSE57691,GSE47472 were used to analyze the differentially expressed genes(DEGs)of AAA and DM compared to the healthy status.We used the online tool ofVenny 2.1 assisted by manual checking to identify the overlapped DEGs with the CIMs.The Human eFP Browser was applied to examine the tissue specific expression levels of the detected genes in order to recognize strong expressed genes in both human artery and pancreatic tissue.Results There were 86 CIMs suggested by the closed BITOLA system.Among all the DEGs of AAA and DM,8 genes in GSE7084(ISG20,ITGAX,DSTN,CCL5,CCR5,AGTR1,CD19,CD44)and 2 genes in GSE 13760(PSMD12,FAS)were found to be overlapped with the 86 CIMs.By manual checking and comparing with tissuespecific gene data through Human eFP Browser,the gene PSMD12(proteasome 26S subunit,non-ATPase 12)was recognized to be strongly expressed in both the aorta and pancreatic tissue.Conclusion We proposed a hypothesis through text mining that PSMD12 might be involved or potentially involved in the interconnection between AAA and DM,which may provide a new clue for studies on novel therapeutic strategies for the two diseases.Honglin Zu Likun Hou Hongwei Liu Yuanbo Zhan Ju He 2021Chinese Medical Sciences Journal2021,36,1:1

18Climate warming increases biodiversity of small rodents by favoring rare or less abundant species in a grassland ecosystem显示文摘Our Earth is facing the challenge of accelerating climate change,which imposes a great threat to biodiversity.Many published studies suggest that climate warming may cause a dramatic decline in biodiversity,especially in colder and drier regions.In this study,we investigated the effects of temperature,precipitation and a normalized difference vegetation index on biodiversity indices of rodent communities in the current or previous year for both detrended and nondetrended data in semi-arid grassland of Inner Mongolia during 1982-2006.Our results demonstrate that temperature showed predominantly positive effects on the biodiversity of small rodents;precipitation showed both positive and negative effects;a normalized difference vegetation index showed positive effects;and cross-correlation function values between rodent abundance and temperature were negatively correlated with rodent abundance.Our results suggest that recent climate warming increased the biodiversity of small rodents by providing more benefits to population growth of rare or less abundant species than that of more abundant species in Inner Mongolia grassland,which does not support the popular view that global warming would decrease biodiversity in colder and drier regions.We hypothesized that higher temperatures might benefit rare or less abundant species(with smaller populations and more folivorous diets)by reducing the probability of local extinction and/or by increasing herbaceous food resources.Guangshun JIANG Jun LIU Lei XU Guirui YU Honglin HE Zhibin ZHANG 2013Integrative Zoology2013,8,2:1
