| 1 | Distribution and deposition of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in precipitation in Guangzhou, South China显示文摘Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were measured in precipitation from March to August 2005 in Guangzhou, South China. Fourteen PAHs were studied, and their total concentrations varied from 616.6 to 3486.7 ng/L in dissolved phase and from 403.8 to 3125.5 ng/L in particulate phase. The estimated deposition loading of PAHs was 3568 μg/m2 during the monitoring period. The deposition of PAHs was a potential source for Pearl River comparing with the contents of surface water. In addition, the high concentration in precipitation here implied that PAHs pollution was a potential environmental problem in Guangzhou. Most precipitation concentrations of PAHs in March (the last month in winter in Guangzhou) were higher than in the other months (in rainy season). PAHs inclined to be adsorbed to particulate phase with the increase of molecular weight in rainwater. | 2 | Hepatocellular carcinoma and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma incidence between 2006 and 2015 in China: estimates based on data from 188 population-based cancer registries显示文摘Background:Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(ICC)are the most common subtypes of primary liver cancer,but nationwide incidence of both liver cancer subtypes have never been reported in China.We aimed to estimate the most recent incidence of HCC and ICC and temporal trends in China based on the most updated data from high qualified population-based cancer registries(covering 13.1%of the national population),in comparison to those in the United States at the same period.Methods:We used data from 188 Chinese population-based cancer registries covering 180.6 million population of China to estimate the nationwide incidence of HCC and ICC in 2015.And 22 population-based cancer registries’data were used to estimate the trends of HCC and ICC incidence from 2006 to 2015.Multiple imputation by chained equations method was used to impute liver cancer cases with unknown subtype(50.8%).We used data from 18 population-based registries from the Surveillance,Epidemiology,and End Results program to analyze incidence of HCC and ICC in the United States.Results:In China,an estimated 301,500 and 61,900 newly diagnosed HCC and ICC occurred in 2015.The overall age-standardized rates(ASRs)of HCC incidence decreased by 3.9%per year.For ICC incidence,the overall ASR was relatively stable,but increased in the population of over 65 years old.Subgroup analysis by age showed that the ASR of HCC incidence had the sharpest decline in population who were less than 14 years old and received neonatally hepatitis B virus(HBV)vaccination.In the United States,though the incidence of HCC and ICC were lower than those in China,the overall HCC and ICC incidence increased by 3.3%and 9.2%per year.Conclusions:China still faces with a heavy burden of liver cancer incidence.Our results may further support the beneficial effect of Hepatitis B vaccination on reduction of HCC incidence.Both healthy lifestyle promotion and infection control are needed for future liver cancer control and prevention for China and the United States. | Lan An Rongshou Zheng Siwei Zhang Ru Chen Shaoming Wang Kexin Sun Lingeng Lu Xuehong Zhang Hong Zhao Hongmei Zeng Wenqiang Wei Jie He | 2023 | Hepatobiliary Surgery and Nutrition2023,12,1: | 4 |
| 3 | Low-overpotential selective reduction of CO2 to ethanol on electrodeposited CuxAuy nanowire arrays显示文摘Direct electrochemical reduction of CO2 to multicarbon products is highly desirable, yet challenging. Here, we present a potentiostatic pulse-electrodeposition of high-aspect-ratio CuxAuy nanowire arrays (NWAs) as high-performance electrocatalysts for the CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR). The surface electronic structure related to the Cu:Au ratio in the CuxAuy NWAs could be facilely modulated by controlling the electrodeposition potential and the as-fabricated CuxAuy NWAs could be directly used as the catalytic electrode for the CO2RR. The morphology of the high-aspect-ratio nanowire array significantly lowers the onset potential of the alcohol formation due to the diffusion-induced enhancement of the local pH and CO concentration near the nanowire surface. Besides, the properly adjusted surface electronic structure of the CuxAuy NWA enables the adsorption of CO and facilitates the subsequent CO reduction to ethanol via the C-C coupling pathway. Owing to the synergistic effect of morphology and electronic structure, the optimized CuxAuy NWA selectively reduces CO2 to ethanol at low potentials of -0.5——0.7 V vs. RHE with a highest Faradaic efficiency of 48%. | 4 | Neural precursors derived from human embryonic stem cells显示文摘Human embryonic stem (hES) cells provide a promising supply of specific cell types for transplantation therapy. We presented here the method to induce differentiation of purified neural precursors from hES cells. hES cells (Line PKU-1 and Line PKU-2) were cultured in sus- pension in bacteriological Petri dishes, which differentiated into cystic embryoid bodies (EBs). The EBs were then cultured in N2 medium containing bFGF in poly-L-lysine-coated tissue culture dishes for two weeks. The central, small cells with 2―3 short processes of the spreading out- growth were isolated mechanically and replated. The resulting neurospheres were cultured in suspension for 10 days, then dissociated into single cell suspension with a Pasteur pipette and plated. Cells grew vigorously in an attached way and were passed every 4―5 days. Almost all the cells were proved nestin positive by immunostaining. Following withdrawal of bFGF, they differentiated into neurons expressing β-tubulin isotypeIII, GABA, serotonin and synaptophysin. Through induction of PDGF-AA, they differentiated into astrocytes expressing GFAP and oli- godendrocytes expressing O4. | 5 | The amplified fluorescence quenching of heteroatomic conjugated polymers based on the “molecular wire”effects显示文摘Tremendous interest has been evoked in the utility of the fluorescent conjugated polymers towards the creation of ultra-sensitive systems based on the molecular wire effects which can amplify the transduction events. Here, a series of new polymers pyridine substitute poly (phen- ylene ethynylene)s are synthesized by Sonogashira-Hagihara coupling reaction. The impact of structure modification on the physical properties and spectral characteristics of poly-mers has been investigated. The quenching studies are car-ried out and exhibit that recognition site (pyridyle group) highly influences the quenching efficiency. The results show that polymer PI with pyridyl group entrapped in the conju-gated backbone has the specific and sensitive response to Pd(Ⅱ). | 6 | Coronavirus disease 2019 epidemic prediction in Shanghai under the “dynamic zero-COVID policy”using time-dependent SEAIQR model显示文摘It’s urgently needed to assess the COVID-19 epidemic under the“dynamic zero-COVID policy”in China,which provides a scientific basis for evaluating the effectiveness of this strategy in COVID-19 control.Here,we developed a time-dependent susceptible-exposed-asymptomatic-infected-quarantined-remov ed(SEAIQR)model with stage-specific interventions based on recent Shanghai epidemic data,considering a large number of asymptomatic infectious,the changing parameters,and control procedures.The data collected from March 1st,2022 to April 15th,2022 were used to fit the model,and the data of subsequent 7 days and 14 days were used to evaluate the model performance of forecasting.We then calculated the effective regeneration number(Rt)and analyzed the sensitivity of different measures scenarios.Asymptomatic infectious accounts for the vast majority of the outbreaks in Shanghai,and Pudong is the district with the most positive cases.The peak of newly confirmed cases and newly asymptomatic infectious predicted by the SEAIQR model would appear on April 13th,2022,with 1963 and 28,502 cases,respectively,and zero community transmission may be achieved in early to mid-May.The prediction errors for newly confirmed cases were considered to be reasonable,and newly asymptomatic infectious were considered to be good between April 16th to 22nd and reasonable between April 16th to 29th.The final ranges of cumulative confirmed cases and cumulative asymptomatic infectious predicted in this round of the epidemic were 26,477~47,749 and 402,254~730,176,respectively.At the beginning of the outbreak,Rt was 6.69.Since the implementation of comprehensive control,Rt showed a gradual downward trend,dropping to below 1.0 on April 15th,2022.With the early implementation of control measures and the improvement of quarantine rate,recovery rate,and immunity threshold,the peak number of infections will continue to decrease,whereas the earlier the control is implemented,the earlier the turning point of the epidemic will arrive.The proposed time-dependent SEAIQR dynamic model fits and forecasts the epidemic well,which can provide a reference for decision making of the“dynamic zero-COVID policy”. | Yifei Ma Shujun Xu Qi An Mengxia Qin Sitian Li Kangkang Lu Jiantao Li Lijian Lei Lu He Hongmei Yu Jun Xie | 2022 | Journal of Biosafety and Biosecurity2022,4,2: | 1 |

| 11 | Tenglong Buzhong granules(藤龙补中颗粒) inhibits the growth of SW620 human colon cancer in vivo显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To observe the anticancer effects of the granular preparation of Tenglong Buzhong decoction(藤龙补中汤,TBD), i.e Tenglong Buzhong granules(藤龙补中颗粒, TBG), in human SW620 colon cancer. METHODS: BALB/c nude mice were subcutaneously transplanted with SW620 cells, and treated with TBG(2.56 g/kg, once per day) and/or 5-Fu(104 mg/kg, once per week) for 21 d. Apoptosis, Caspase activities and cellular senescence were measured by commercial kits. The protein expression and phosphorylation were detected by Western blot or immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: TBG and 5-Fu inhibited tumor growth. The tumor inhibition rate of the TBG, 5-Fu, and TBG+5-Fu groups was 42.25%, 51.58%, and 76.08%, respectively. Combination of TBG and 5-Fu showed synergetic anticancer effects. TBG and 5-Fu induced apoptosis, activated caspase-3,-8, and-9, increased SMAC expression, inhibited XIAP expression. TBG induced cellular senescence, upregulated cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 1a(CDKN1a) and cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2a(CDKN2a) expression, and inhibited phosphorylation of retinoblastoma-associated protein(RB) and expression of cyclin E1(CCNE1) and cyclindependent kinases(CDK) 2. TBG also inhibited angiogenesis accompanied by downregulation of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and hypoxiainducible factor-1α(HIF-1α). Cell proliferation was detected by cell counting kit-8 assay. Cell apoptosis was identified by Hoechst 33258 staining and flow cytometric analysis. Cell cycle distribution was quantified by flow cytometric analysis. Caspase activities were measured by commercial kit. Cell senescence was detected by senescence-associated β-galactosidase(SA-β-gal)staining. Protein expression and phosphorylation were identified by Western blot. Protein expression was knocked-down by siRNA.RESULTS: YGJDSJ inhibited proliferation of Bel-7402 cells in a dose-and time-dependent manner.YGJDSJ induced apoptosis and activated caspase-3, 8, and 9 in Bel-7402 cells. YGJDSJ-induced apoptosis was completely abrogated by a pan caspase inhibitor, Z-VAD-FMK. YGJDSJ also induced cell senescence, up-regulated cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 1 a(CDKN1 a) and CDKN2 a expression and down-regulated retinoblastoma protein(RB) phosphorylation in Bel-7402 cells. Specific knockdown of CDKN1 a and CDKN2 a significantly reduced YGJDSJ-induce cell senescence in Bel-7402 cells.CONCLUSION: YGJDSJ inhibited cell proliferation,induced caspase-dependent apoptosis and CDKN1 a/CDKN2 a-RB signalling mediated cell senescence in Bel-7402 cells. | 18 | Miro2 supplies a platform for Parkin translocation to damaged mitochondria显示文摘PINK1/Parkin-mediated mitophagy is an important process in selective removal of damaged mitochondria, in which translocation of Parkin to damaged mitochondria is recognized as an initiation step. At present, how the damaged mitochondria are selectively recognized and targeted by Parkin is not fully understood. Here we show that Miro2, an outer mitochondrial membrane protein, undergoes demultimerization from a tetramer to a monomer and alteration in mitochondrial localization upon CCCP treatment, suggesting a CCCP-induced realignment of Miro2. The realignment of Miro2 is tightly regulated by PINK1-mediated phosphorylation at Ser325/Ser430 and by Ca^2+binding to EF2 domain, which are both essential for the subsequent Parkin translocation. Interestingly, ablation of Miro2 in mouse causes delayed reticulocyte maturation, lactic acidosis and cardiac disorders. Furthermore, several Miro2 mutations found in the congenital lactic acidosis patients also disable its realignment and Parkin translocation.
