1Circumferential Propagation of Tip Leakage Flow Unsteadiness for a Low-Speed Axial Compressor显示文摘Full-annulus three-dimensional unsteady numerical simulations were conducted for a low-speed isolated axialcompressor rotor, intending to identify the behavior of self-induced unsteady tip leakage flow within multi-bladepassages. There is a critical mass flow rate near stall point, below it, the self-induced unsteadiness of tip leakageflow can propagate circumferentially and thus initiates two circumferential waves. Otherwise, the self-inducedunsteady tip leakage flow oscillates synchronously in each single blade passage. The major findings are: 1) whilethe self-induced unsteadiness of tip leakage flow is a single-passage phenomenon, there exist phase shifts amongblade passages in multi-passage environments then evolving into the first short length wave propagating at abouttwo times of rotor rotation speed after the transient period ends; and 2) the time traces of the pseudo sensors locatedon the rotor blade tips reveal another much longer length-scale wave modulated with the first wave due tophase shift propagating at about half of rotor rotation speed. 2Swimming behavior of juvenile silver carp near the separation zone of a channel confluence显示文摘Knowledge of locomotion of fish near river confluences is important for prediction of fish distribution in a river network.The flow separation zone near the confluence of a river network is a favorite habitat and feeding place for silver carp,which is one of the four major species of Chinese carp and usually provides positive rheotaxis to water flow.In the current study,a series of laboratory experiments were done to determine the behavioral responses of juvenile silver carp to the hydrodynamic forces near the separation zone of a channel confluence.The locomotion and trajectory of juvenile silver carp were recorded by infrared thermal imaging,while the flow velocity field near the separation zone was measured by a Particle Image Velocimetry(PIV)system.A total of 60 juvenile silver carp were released near the separation zone among which 40 carp swam in the upstream direction.Amongst them,24 carp swam to the tributary and the remaining 16 swam into the main channel.Almost all these 24 carp travelled initially along the boundary of the separation zone near the corner,where flow shear was strongest,and then swam to the tributary.Instead of avoiding zones of strong vorticity,they chose and followed a trajectory along which the flow vorticity was large.On encountering these vortical flows,they increased the tailbeat frequency and decreased the tail-beat amplitude to maintain body stability.These observations provide important knowledge on locomotion of fish near river confluences and are beneficial for the fish habitat protection.Saiyu Yuan Lei Xu Hongwu Tang Yang Xiao Colin Whittaker 2022International Journal of Sediment Research2022,37,1:2

4Numerical modeling of thermal breakthrough induced by geothermal production in fractured granite显示文摘It is well known that the complicated channeling of fluid flow and heat transfer is strongly related with the intricate natural fracture system.However,it is still challenging to set up the fracture network model which is strong heterogeneous.Compared with other methods(e.g.equivalent continuum model(ECM),discrete fracture model(DFM),and ECM-DFM),the fracture flow module in the COMSOL Multiphysics simulator is powerful in definition of fractures as the inner flow boundary existing in the porous media.Thus it is selected to simulate the fluid flow and heat transfer in the geothermal-developed fractured granite of Sanguliu area located at Liaodong Peninsula,Eastern China.The natural faults/fractures based on field investigation combined with the discrete fracture network(DFN)generated by the MATLAB are used to represent the two-dimensional geological model.Numerical results show that early thermal breakthrough occurs at the production well caused by quick flow of cold water along the highly connected fractures.Suitable hydraulic fracturing treatments with proper injection rates,locations,etc.can efficiently hinder the thermal breakthrough time in the natural fracture system.Large well spacing helps the long-term operation of geothermal production,but it is highly dependent on the geometrical morphology of the fracture network.The enhancement of reservoir properties at the near-well regions can also increase the geothermal production efficiency.The results in this study can provide references to achieve a sustainable geothermal exploitation in fractured granitic geothermal reservoirs or hot dry rocks at depth.Hejuan Liu Hongwei Wang Hongwu Lei Liwei Zhang Mingxing Bai Lei Zhou 2020Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2020,12,4:1
5Temporal variations of sediment and morphological characteristics at a large confluence accounting for the effects of floodplain submergence显示文摘The large confluence between the Yangtze River and the outflow channel of Poyang Lake is receiving attention due to its importance in flood control and ecological protection in the Yangtze River basin.There is a large floodplain along the outflow channel of Poyang Lake,which is submerged during high flow and dry during low flow.The effects of the submergence of this floodplain on sediment and morphological characteristics at this large confluence have not been known.Hence,a field investigation was done in March 2019(relatively high flow,Survey 3)to complement the previous field studies done in August(high flow,Survey 1)and December 2018(low flow,Survey 2)to identify the temporal variations of sediment and morphological characteristics considering the submergence of this large floodplain.The predominant sediment transport modes were wash load for Poyang Lake and confluence particles and mixed bedload/suspended load for the Yangtze River particles.The sediment transport processes were largely affected by both the secondary flows and the water density contrast between the tributaries with a lock-exchange sediment rich,denser flow moving across the inclined mixing interface in Surveys 1 and 2.The sediment flux across the mixing interface was weakened in Survey 3 when the density contrast was very small.The stagnation zone near the confluence apex had a low sediment concentration and played a role in preventing the sediment flux exchange between the two flows,and its size,and,thus,its importance as a barrier to sediment mixing were related to the submergence of the floodplain.The bed morphology with the local scour holes at the confluence was largely affected by the large-size helical cells,and this kind of effect was weakened as the secondary flows got restricted in Survey 3.The current results expand the database and knowledge on the sediment transport and morphological features of large river confluences.Kun Li Hongwu Tang Saiyu Yuan Lei Xu Yang Xiao Carlo Gualtieri 2022International Journal of Sediment Research2022,37,5:0
6The exploration and utilization of functional substances in edible insects: a review显示文摘Edible insects as food have been considered as a core future protein source. Not only are edible insects abundant in nutrient value, but also have numbers of functional substances, which could provide a multiple valuable benefits for humans. This review examines and summarizes the functional substances in edible insects and their special effects for people, as well as the use and prospects for these functional substances. There are many functional substances in edible insects, such as antimicrobial peptides, interferon, sex attractant hormones, cordycepin, active polysaccharides, microelement, chitin/chitosan, steroidal material, vitamin, lecithin, etc., which could provide multiple benefits for human beings. These special functional substances could help people enhance immunity, inhibit tumor, regulate intestinal function, relieve fatigue, anti oxidation, protect against colds, improve sleeping, promote the growth and development, as well as reducing blood sugar and blood pressure, among others. According to these valuable efficacies, the functional substances extracted from edible insects can be exploited mainly in three ways: edible insects are used to discover new medicines or health care products for people;and edible insects are applied in chemical, agricultural, food technology, pollutant treatment and textile sectors;as well as being consumed as animal feedstuff for livestock and other animals, which indirectly meet the different requirements for humans. Currently, edible insects have generated global interest to be developed as different forms of products and has promoted more research and development. However, pupae and larvae are still the main consumption ways in the market, which is unacceptable to most people.
