| 2 | Programmable time-domain digital-coding metasurface for non-linear harmonic manipulation and new wireless communication systems显示文摘Optical non-linear phenomena are typically observed in natural materials interacting with light at high intensities, and they benefit a diverse range of applications from communication to sensing. However,controlling harmonic conversion with high efficiency and flexibility remains a major issue in modern optical and radio-frequency systems. Here, we introduce a dynamic time-domain digital-coding metasurface that enables efficient manipulation of spectral harmonic distribution. By dynamically modulating the local phase of the surface reflectivity, we achieve accurate control of different harmonics in a highly programmable and dynamic fashion, enabling unusual responses, such as velocity illusion. As a relevant application, we propose and realize a novel architecture for wireless communication systems based on the time-domain digital-coding metasurface, which largely simplifies the architecture of modern communication systems, at the same time yielding excellent performance for real-time signal transmission. | 3 | Chinese Trauma Surgeon Association for management guidelines of vacuum sealing drainage application in abdominal surgeries-Update and systematic review显示文摘Vacuum sealing drainage (VSD) is frequently used in abdominal surgeries. However, relevant guidelines are rare. Chin ese Trauma Surge on Associati on orga nized a committee composed of 28 experts across China in July 2017, aiming to provide an evidence-based recommendation for the application of VSD in abdominal surgeries.Eleven questions regarding the use of VSD in abdominal surgeries were addressed:(1) which type of materials should be respectively chosen for the intraperitoneal cavity, retroperitoneal cavity and superficial incisions?(2) Can VSD be preventively used for a high-risk abdominal incision w让h primary suture?(3) Can VSD be used in severely contaminated/infected abdominal surgical sites?(4) Can VSD be used for temporary abdominal cavity closure under some special conditions such as severe abdominal trauma, infection, liver transplantation and intra-abdominal volume increment in abdominal compartment syndrome?(5) Can VSD be used in abdominal organ inflammation, injury, or postoperative drainage?(6) Can VSD be used in the treatment of intestinal fistula and pancreatic fistula?(7) Can VSD be used in the treatment of intra-abdominal and extra-peritoneal abscess?(8) Can VSD be used in the treatment of abdominal wall wounds, wound cavity, and defects?(9) Does VSD in crease the risk of bleeding?(10) Does VSD increase the risk of intestinal wail injury?(11) Does VSD increase the risk of peritoneal adhesion? Focusing on these questions, evidence-based recommendations were given accordingly. VSD was strongly recommended regarding the questions 2-4. Weak recommendations were made regarding questions 1 and 5-11. | 5 | Wireless Communications with Programmable Metasurface:Transceiver Design and Experimental Results显示文摘Metasurfaces have drawn significant attentions due to their superior capability in tailoring electromagnetic waves with a wide frequency range, from microwave to visible light. Recently, programmable metasurfaces have demonstrated the ability of manipulating the amplitude or phase of electromagnetic waves in a programmable manner in real time, which renders them especially appealing in the applications of wireless communications. In this paper, we present the fundamental principle of applying programmable metasurface as transmitter for wireless communications. Then, we establish a prototype system of metasurface-based transmitter to conduct several experiments and measurements over the air, which practically demonstrate the feasibility of using programmable metasurfaces in future communication systems. By exploiting the dynamically controllable property of programmable metasurface, the design, implementation and experimental evaluation of the proposed metasurface-based wireless communication system are presented with the prototype, which realizes single carrier quadrature phase shift keying(QPSK) transmission over the air. In the developed prototype, the phase of the reflected electromagnetic wave of programma-ble metasurface is directly manipulated in real time according to the baseband control signal, which achieves 2.048 Mbps data transfer rate with video streaming transmission over the air. In addition, experimental result is provided to compare the performance of the proposed metasurface-based architecture against the conventional one. With the slight increase of the transmit power by 5 dB, the same bit error rate(BER) performance can be achieved as the conventional system in the absence of channel coding. | 8 | Changes in vitreous VEGF, bFGF and fibrosis in proliferative diabetic retinopathy after intravitreal bevacizumab显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the relationship between intravitreal bevacizumab(IVB) treatment and the levels of vitreous vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF), basic fibroblast growth factor(b FGF) and vitreous-retina surface fibrosis in patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDR).·METHODS: This study was a prospective, open-label,controlled, randomized clinical trial. Sixty-eight eyes of PDR patients(n =53) and macular hole patients(n =15)were enrolled in this study. Thirty-four eyes of the PDR patients received IVB before vitrectomy. Twenty-three of the 34 PDR patients received IVB treatment 5d before vitrectomy(subgroup a), and 11 of the 34 PDR patients received IVB treatment greater than 2wk prior to vitrectomy(subgroup b). Nineteen of the PDR patients did not receive IVB treatment at any time prior to vitrectomy. The levels of b FGF and VEGF in vitreous samples were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) and the degree of vitreoretinal fibrosis was characterized using clinical data and data obtained intra-operatively.·RESULTS: In PDR patients, VEGF and b FGF levels were significantly increased compared to non-PDR(control) subject's eyes(P <0.01). In PDR patients,vitreous VEGF levels were significantly decreased following IVB treatment compared to PDR patients that did not receive IVB treatment(P <0.01). The degree of vitreoretinal fibrosis was significantly increased in subgroup b compared to subgroup a(P <0.05) and to patients that did not receive IVB(P <0.05). Vitreous b FGF levels were significantly greater in subgroup b than subgroup a(P <0.01) or in patients who did not receive IVB treatment(P <0.05). A Spearman's rank correlationtest indicated that higher levels of vitreous b FGF, but not VEGF, correlated with the degree of vitreoretinal fibrosis.·CONCLUSION: We found that b FGF levels increase in PDR patient's vitreous after IVB treatment longer than two weeks prior to vitrectomy and correlated with the degree of fibrosis after IVB treatment. | 10 | Generation of B Cell-Deficient Pigs by Highly Efficient CRISPR/Cas9-Mediated Gene Targeting显示文摘Generating B cell-deficient mutant is the first step to produce human antibody repertoires in large animal models. In this study, we applied the clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat(CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated(Cas) system to target the JHregion of the pig Ig M heavy chain gene which is crucial for B cell development and differentiation. Transfection of Ig M-targeting Cas9 plasmid in primary porcine fetal fibroblasts(PFFs) enabled inducing gene knock out(KO) in up to 53.3% of colonies analyzed, a quarter of which harbored biallelic modification, which was much higher than that of the traditional homologous recombination(HR). With the aid of somatic cell nuclear transfer(SCNT) technology, three piglets with the biallelic Ig M heavy chain gene mutation were produced. The piglets showed no antibody-producing B cells which indicated that the biallelic mutation of the Ig M heavy chain gene effectively knocked out the function of the Ig M and resulted in a B cell-deficient phenotype. | 11 | Human placenta-derived mesenchymal stem cells loaded on linear ordered collagen scaffold improves functional recovery after completely transected spinal cord injury in canine显示文摘Traumatic spinal cord injury(SCI) is a major challenge in the clinic. In this study, we sought to examine the synergistic effects of linear ordered collagen scaffold(LOCS) and human placenta-derived mesenchymal stem cells(hPMSCs) when transplanted into completely transected beagle dogs. After 36 weeks observation, we found that LOCS+hPMSCs implants promoted better hindlimb locomotor recovery than was observed in the non-treatment(control) group and LOCS group. Histological analysis showed that the regenerated tissue after treatment was well integrated with the host tissue, and dramatically reduced the volume of cystic and chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans(CSPGs) expression. Furthermore, the LOCS+hPMSCs group also showed more neuron-specific βIII-tubulin(Tuj-1)-and NeuN-positive neurons in the lesion area, as well as axonal regeneration, remyelination and synapse formation in the lesion site. Additionally, dogs in the LOCS+hPMSCs group experienced enhanced sprouting of both ascending(CGRP-positive) sensory fibers and descending(5-HT-and TH-positive) motor fibers at the lesion area. All these data together suggested that the combined treatment had beneficial effects on neuronal regeneration and functional improvement in a canine complete transection model. | 15 | Spatial Interaction and Network Structure Evolvement of Cities in Terms of China's Rail Passenger Flows显示文摘Cities separated in space are connected together by spatial interaction (SI) between them. But the studies focusing on the SI are relatively few in China mainly because of the scarcity of data. This paper deals with the SI in terms of rail passenger flows, which is an important aspect of the network structure of urban agglomeration. By using a data set consisting of rail O-D (origin-destination) passenger flows among nearly 200 cities, intercity rail distance O-D matrixes, and some other indices, it is found that the attenuating tendency of rail passenger is obvious. And by the analysis on dominant flows and spatial structure of flows, we find that passenger flows have a trend of polarizing to hubs while the linkages between hubs upgrade. However, the gravity model reveals an overall picture of convergence process over time which is not in our expectation of integration process in the framework of globalization and economic integration. | 19 | Selection of candidates for surgery as local therapy among early-stage small cell lung cancer patients: a population-based analysis显示文摘Background:Surgery and radiotherapy are considered local therapies for small cell lung cancer(SCLC).The present study aimed to select candidates for surgery as local therapy among patients with stage I or II SCLC,based on the eighth edition of the TNM classification for lung cancer.Methods:Patients diagnosed with SCLC between 2004 and 2013 were selected from the Surveillance,Epidemiology,And End Results database.The TNM stage of SCLC in these patients was re-classified according to the eighth edition of the TNM classification for lung cancer.Patients with stage I or II SCLC were included in the present study.Overall survival(OS)and lung cancer-specific survival(LCSS)were separately compared in the different TNM stages between patients who received surgery and radiotherapy as local therapy.Multivariate analysis was applied to evaluate multi-ple factors associated with survival.Results:Among the 2129 patients included in the present study,387(18.2%)received surgery,1032(48.5%)under-went radiotherapy as local therapy,154(7.2%)underwent surgery and radiotherapy,and 556(26.1%)did not undergo either surgery or radiotherapy.Among patients with T1-2N0(tumor size≤50 mm without positive lymph nodes)dis-ease,patients who underwent surgery had higher 5-year OS and LCSS rates than patients who received radiotherapy(T1N0:46.0%vs.23.8%,P<0.001,and 58.4%vs.36.4%,P<0.001,respectively;T2N0:42.6%vs.24.7%,P=0.004,and 48.8%vs.31.3%,P=0.011,respectively).Multivariate analysis results revealed that surgery was associated with low risk of death.However,among T3N0 or T1-2N1(stage IIB)SCLC patients,patients who underwent surgery did not have higher 5-year OS and LCSS rates than patients who received radiotherapy(T3N0:16.2%vs.26.5%,P=0.085,and 28.7%vs.30.9%,P=0.372,respectively;T1-2N1:20.3%vs.29.0%,P=0.146,and 25.6%vs.35.5%,P=0.064,respectively).Conclusions:Based on the assumption that the overwhelming majority of stage I or II SCLC patients who underwent surgery or radiotherapy also received certain types of systemic therapy,only patients with T1-2N0 SCLC may benefit from surgery as local therapy.Patients with T3N0 or T1-2N1 SCLC may consider radiotherapy as local therapy. | Kaiqi Jin Kaixuan Zhang Feng Zhou Jie Dai Peng Zhang Gening Jiang | 2018 | Cancer Communications2018,38,1: | 9 |
| 20 | Association between large artery stenosis,cerebral small vessel disease and risk of ischemic stroke显示文摘We aimed to assess the associations of large artery stenosis(LAS)and cerebral small vessel disease(CSVD)with the risk of ischemic stroke and to investigate their respective and combined contributions.In the prospective population-based Shunyi Study,1,082 stroke-free participants aged 55.9±9.1 years were included.Participants were followed for incident stroke throughout the study period(2013-2019).Total small vessel disease score was used to measure CSVD burden.Cervico-cerebral large artery stenosis was evaluated via brain magnetic resonance angiography and carotid ultrasound.We estimated the risk of ischemic stroke in relation to LAS and CSVD with Cox regression models.During a mean follow-up of 4.2 years,34 participants(3.1%)experienced at least one ischemic stroke.Severe LAS(≥50% stenosis versus no stenosis:HR=3.27(95%CI:1.31-8.18))and high CSVD burden(total small vessel disease score 2-4 versus 0 point:HR=12.73(4.83-33.53))were associated with increased stroke risk independently.In multivariate models,CSVD burden(7.72%)explained a larger portion of the variation in stroke risk than severity of LAS(3.49%).Our findings identified that both LAS and CSVD were associated with future ischemic stroke in asymptomatic subjects,while those with high CSVD burden deserve more attention in primary prevention of stroke. | Fei Han Ding-Ding Zhang Fei-Fei Zhai Jun Xue Jiang-Tao Zhang Shuang Yan Li-Xin Zhou Jun Ni Ming Yao Meng Yang Ming-Li Li Zheng-Yu Jin Qing Dai Shu-Yang Zhang Li-Ying Cui Yi-Cheng Zhu | 2021 | Science China(Life Sciences)2021,64,9: | 9 |
