| 1 | Towards reliable Arctic sea ice prediction using multivariate data assimilation显示文摘Rapid declines in Arctic sea ice have captured attention and pose significant challenges to a variety of stakeholders. There is a rising demand for Arctic sea ice prediction at daily to seasonal time scales, which is partly a sea ice initial condition problem. Thus, a multivariate data assimilation that integrates sea ice observations to generate realistic and skillful model initialization is needed to improve predictive skill of Arctic sea ice. Sea ice data assimilation is a relatively new research area. In this review paper, we focus on two challenges for implementing multivariate data assimilation systems for sea ice forecast. First, to address the challenge of limited spatiotemporal coverage and large uncertainties of observations, we discuss sea ice parameters derived from satellite remote sensing that(1) have been utilized for improved model initialization, including concentration, thickness and drift, and(2) are currently under development with the potential for enhancing the predictability of Arctic sea ice, including melt ponds and sea ice leads. | 2 | Genome-wide identification and analysis of the DREB genes and their expression profiles under abiotic stresses in Chinese jujube(Ziziphus jujuba Mill.)显示文摘CBF/DREB proteins play a critical role in abiotic stress-mediated gene expression and represent attractive regulons for plant breeding programs.However,no study has been conducted for CBF/DREB protein-related genes in jujube(Ziziphus jujuba Mill.).In this study,twenty-five ZjDREB genes were identified and annotated from the jujube(Z.jujuba‘Dongzao’)genome.Detailed analysis,including gene classification,annotation,phylogenetic evaluation,conserved motif determination and expression profiling were performed on all genes.Phylogenetic analysis showed that ZjDREB proteins were divided into five subgroups(A1–A5),but lacking a subgroup A6 corresponding to AtDREBs.The ZjDREB genes were distributed in nine of twelve chromosomes in the genome.Additionally,the expression patterns of the DREB genes under different abiotic stresses were investigated using q RT-PCR.Nineteen ZjDREB genes were down-regulated under low temperature,in contrast six ZjDREB genes(01,03,05,11,23 and 24)were up-regulated.Under drought,salinity and high temperature conditions,expression of ZjDREB03,09,10,14,15,17 and 20 genes were induced and showed similar expression patterns,suggesting that various stress conditions share common elements in the signaling pathway.The results suggest that the family of DREB genes play an important role in abiotic stresses in jujube,and provide a foundation for further functional studies of this important class of transcriptional regulators. | Heying Zhou Jiping Jia Decang Kong Zhendong Zhang Shuang Song Yingyue Li Xiaoming Pang | 2019 | Journal of Forestry Research2019,30,4: | 8 |
| 3 | Strengthening shale wellbore with silica nanoparticles drilling fluid显示文摘Nanoparticles have been widely used to reduce wellbore instability problems of shale formation.In this paper,nanoparticle-containing water-based drilling fluids(WBDFs)and oil-based drilling fluids(OBDFs)were evaluated by running three new tests including spontaneous imbibition,swelling rate and acoustic transit time.Results showed that,for the WBDFs,nanoparticles leaded to higher plastic viscosity(PV)and yield point(YP),and lower API-filtration.Moreover,because pore throats of shale can be plugged by nanoparticles,imbibition amount,swelling rate,and Young's-modulus reduction of shale decreased significantly.Higher concentration of nanoparticles can induce better plugging effect.However,for the OBDFs,nanoparticles did not show these positive effects like the nano WBDFs,even leaded to some negative effects such as higher filtration and larger Young'smodulus reduction.The main reasons are that the silica nanoparticles can easily disperse in the WBDFs,and effectively prevent the filtrate invading into shale by plugging pore throats.But the same silica nanoparticles are difficult to disperse in OBDFs,and do not perform the expected functions.This study indicates that nano WBDFs have great potential to reduce the wellbore instability problems of shale formation. | Yili Kang Jiping She Hao Zhang Lijun You Minggu Song | 2016 | Petroleum2016,2,2: | 7 |

| 5 | The role of diminishing Arctic sea ice in increased winter snowfall over northern high-latitude continents in a warming environment显示文摘Large parts of North America,Europe,Siberia,and East Asia have experienced cold snaps and heavy snowfalls for the past few winters,which have been linked to rapid decline of Arctic sea ice.Although the role of reduction in Arctic sea ice in recent cold and snowy winters is still a matter of debate,there is considerable interest in determining whether such an emerging climate feedback will persist into the future in a warming environment.Here we show that increased winter snowfall would be a robust feature throughout the 21 st century in the northeastern Europe,central and northern Asia and northern North America as projected by current-day climate model simulations under the medium mitigation scenario.We argue that the increased winter snowfall in these regions during the 21 st century is due primarily to the diminishing autumn Arctic sea ice(largely externally forced).Variability of the winter Arctic Oscillation(dominant mode of natural variability in the Northern Hemisphere),in contrast,has little contribution to the increased winter snowfall.This is evident in not only the multi-model ensemble mean,but also each individual model(not model-dependent).Our findings reinforce suggestions that a strong sea ice-snowfall feedback might have emerged,and would be enhanced in coming decades,increasing the chance of heavy snowfall events in northern high-latitude continents. | SONG Mirong LIU Jiping | 2017 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2017,36,8: | 3 |

| 8 | Arctic sea ice concentration and thickness data assimilation in the FIO-ESM climate forecast system显示文摘To improve the Arctic sea ice forecast skill of the First Institute of Oceanography-Earth System Model(FIO-ESM)climate forecast system,satellite-derived sea ice concentration and sea ice thickness from the Pan-Arctic IceOcean Modeling and Assimilation System(PIOMAS)are assimilated into this system,using the method of localized error subspace transform ensemble Kalman filter(LESTKF).Five-year(2014–2018)Arctic sea ice assimilation experiments and a 2-month near-real-time forecast in August 2018 were conducted to study the roles of ice data assimilation.Assimilation experiment results show that ice concentration assimilation can help to get better modeled ice concentration and ice extent.All the biases of ice concentration,ice cover,ice volume,and ice thickness can be reduced dramatically through ice concentration and thickness assimilation.The near-real-time forecast results indicate that ice data assimilation can improve the forecast skill significantly in the FIO-ESM climate forecast system.The forecasted Arctic integrated ice edge error is reduced by around 1/3 by sea ice data assimilation.Compared with the six near-real-time Arctic sea ice forecast results from the subseasonal-toseasonal(S2 S)Prediction Project,FIO-ESM climate forecast system with LESTKF ice data assimilation has relatively high Arctic sea ice forecast skill in 2018 summer sea ice forecast.Since sea ice thickness in the PIOMAS is updated in time,it is a good choice for data assimilation to improve sea ice prediction skills in the near-realtime Arctic sea ice seasonal prediction. | Qi Shu Fangli Qiao Jiping Liu Zhenya Song Zhiqiang Chen Jiechen Zhao Xunqiang Yin Yajuan Song | 2021 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2021,40,10: | 1 |

| 13 | The V1 region of gp120 is preferentially selected during SIV/HIV transmission and is indispensable for envelope function and virus infection显示文摘A transmission bottleneck occurs during each human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) transmission event, which allows only a few viruses to establish new infection. However, the genetic characteristics of the transmitted viruses that are preferentially selected have not been fully elucidated. Here, we analyzed amino acids changes in the envelope protein during simian immunodeficiency virus(SIV)/HIV deep transmission history and current HIV evolution within the last 15–20 years. Our results confirmed that the V1V2 region of gp120 protein, particularly V1, was preferentially selected. A shorter V1 region was preferred during transmission history, while during epidemic, HIV may evolve to an expanded V1 region gradually and thus escape immune recognition. We then constructed different HIV-1 V1 mutants using different HIV-1 subtypes to elucidate the role of the V1 region in envelope function. We found that the V1 region, although highly variable, was indispensable for virus entry and infection, probably because V1 deletion mutants exhibited impaired processing of gp160 into mature gp120 and gp41. Additionally, the V1 region affected Env incorporation.
