1Necklace-like Si@C nano?bers as robust anode materials for high performance lithium ion batteries显示文摘Silicon is believed to be a promising anode material for lithium ion batteries because of its highest theoretical capacity and low discharge potential. However, severe pulverization and capacity fading caused by huge volume change during cycling limits its practical application. In this work, necklace-like N-doped carbon wrapped mesoporous Si nanofibers(NL-Si@C) network has been synthesized via electrospinning method followed by magnesiothermic reduction reaction process to suppress these issues. The mesoporous Si nanospheres are wrapped with N-doped carbon shells network to form yolk-shell structure.Interestingly, the distance of adjacent Si@C nanospheres can be controllably adjusted by different addition amounts of SiO_2 nanospheres. When used as an anode material for lithium ion batteries, the NL-Si@C-0.5 exhibits best cycling stability and rate capability. The excellent electrochemical performances can be ascribed to the necklace-like network structure and N-doped carbon layers, which can ensure fast ions and electrons transportation, facilitate the electrolyte penetration and provide finite voids to allow large volume expansion of inner Si nanoparticles. 2Alpha-2-macroglobulin as a radioprotective agent: a review显示文摘Radiation is an important modality in cancer treatment, and eighty percent of cancer patients need radiotherapy at some point during their clinical management. However, radiation-induced damage to normal tissues restricts the therapeutic doses of radiation that can be delivered to tumours and thereby limits the effectiveness of the treatment. The use of radioprotectors represents an obvious strategy to obtain better tumour control using a higher dose in radiotherapy. However, most of the synthetic radioprotective compounds studied have shown inadequate clinical efficacy owing to their inherent toxicity and high cost. Hence, the development of radioprotective agents with lower toxicity and an extended window of protection has attracted a great deal of attention, and the identification of alternative agents that are less toxic and highly effective is an absolute necessity. Recent studies have shown that alpha-2-macroglobulin(α2M) possesses radioprotective effects. α2M is a tetrameric, disulfide-rich plasma glycoprotein that functions as a nonselective inhibitor of different types of non-specific proteases and as a carrier of cytokines, growth factors, and hormones. α2M induces protein factors whose interplay underlies radioprotection, which supports the idea that α2M is the central effector of natural radioprotection in the rat. Pretreatment with α2M has also induced a significant reduction of irradiation-induced DNA damage and the complete restoration of liver and body weight. Mihailovi? et al. concluded that the radioprotection provided by α2M was in part mediated through cytoprotection of new blood cells produced in the bone marrow; these authors also indicated that an important aspect of the radioprotective effect of amifostine was the result of the induction of the endogenous cytoprotective capability of α2M. The radioprotective effects of α2M are possibly due to antioxidant, antifibrosis, and anti-inflammatory functions, as well as the maintenance of homeostasis, and enhancement of the DNA repair and cell recovery processes. This review is the first to summarise the observations and elucidate the possible mechanisms responsible for the beneficial effects of α2M. 3Alterations of natural killer cells in traumatic brain injury显示文摘To investigate the relationship between natural killer(NK) cells and traumatic brain injury(TBI), we tracked an established phenotype of circulating NK cells at several time points in patients with different grades of TBI. In serial peripheral blood samples, NK cells were prospectively measured by flow cytometry of CD3-CD56+ lymphocytes. Compared to healthy controls, TBI patients had reductions in both the percentage and the absolute number of NK cells. Furthermore, the magnitude of NK cell reduction correlated with the degree of TBI severity at several time points. That is, NK cell population size was independently associated with lower Glasgow Coma Scale scores. In addition, at some time points, a positive correlation was found between the NK cell counts and Glasgow Outcome Scale scores. 4Investigating the Effectiveness of Road-related Mitigation Measures under Semi-controlled Conditions:A Case Study on Asian Amphibians显示文摘Road traffic is the main factor causing the decline in amphibian populations worldwide. The proper design of an amphibian tunnel is one of the most efficient measures to mitigate the negative impacts of road traffic on amphibians. However, no study has investigated the effectiveness of amphibian tunnels under semi-controlled conditions in Asian amphibians. Here, we selected two representative amphibian species, the Chinese brown frog, Rana chensinensis, and the Asiatic toad, Bufo gargarizans, which suffer the most severe road mortality along the roads in Northeast China. We placed experimental arrays of culverts of various sizes(diameters of 1.5, 1, and 0.5 m for circular culverts; side lengths of 1.5, 1, and 0.5 m for box culverts), and substrate type(soil, concrete, and metal) to examine the preferences of both species during the migratory season between May and September in 2016 and 2017. The results revealed that the Chinese brown frog preferred mid-and large-sized culverts as well as soil culverts. 5Neuroprotective effects of human telomerase reverse transcriptase on beta-amyloid fragment 25-35-treated human embryonic cortical neurons显示文摘BACKGROUND:Numerous current studies have suggested that human telomerase reverse transcriptase(hTERT) gene has neuroprotective effects and can inhibit apoptosis induced by various cytotoxic stresses;however,the mechanism of action remains unknown. OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the neuroprotective effects and possible mechanism of action of hTERT gene transfection in human embryonic cortical neurons treated with beta-amyloid fragment 25-35 (Aβ_(25-35)). DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:The randomized,controlled and molecular biological studies were performed at the Department of Anatomy and Brain Research,Zhongshan School of Medicine,Sun Yat-sen University,China,from September 2005 to June 2008. MATERIALS:AdEasy-1 Expression System was gifted by Professor Guoquan Gao from Sun Yat-Sen University,China.Human cortical neurons were derived from 12-20 week old aborted fetuses,obtained from the Guangzhou Maternal and Child Health Hospital,China.Mouse anti-Cdk5 and mouse anti-p16 monoclonal antibodies(Lab Vision,USA),and mouse anti-hTERT monoclonal antibody(Epitomics,USA),were used in this study. METHODS:(1) Recombinant adenovirus vectors,encoding hTERT(Ad-hTERT) and green fluorescent protein(Ad-GFP),were constructed using the AdEasy-1 Expression System.Human embryonic cortical neurons in the Ad-hTERT group were transfected with Ad-hTERT for 1-21 days. Likewise,human embryonic cortical neurons in the Ad-GFP group were transfected with Ad-GFP for 1-21 days.Human embryonic cortical neurons in the control group were cultured as normal.(2) Human embryonic cortical neurons in the Ad-hTERT group were treated with 10μmol/L Aβ_(25-35) for 24 hours.Normal human embryonic cortical neurons treated with 10μmol/LAβ_(25-35) for 24 hours served as a model group.Human embryonic cortical neurons in the Ad-GFP and control groups were not treated with Aβ_(25-35). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Expression of hTERT in human embryonic cortical neurons was evaluated by immunocytochemical staining and Western blot assay.Telomerase activity was measured using a PcR-based telomeric repeat amplification protocol(TRAP) ELISA kit.Neural activity in human embryonic cortical neurons was examined by MTT assay;apoptosis was measured using TUNEL assay;and Cdk5 and p16 protein expressions were measured by Westem blot. RESULTS:Expression of hTERT protein was significantly increased and peaked at day 3 post-transfection in the Ad-hTERT group.No hTERT expression was detected in the Ad-GFP and control groups.Telomerase activity was significantly greater in the Ad-hTERT group compared with the Ad-GFP and control groups(P<0.01).Compared with the control group,cell activity was significantly decreased(P<0.05),and cell apoptotic rate,Cdk5 and p16 expression were significantly increased(P<0.01) in the model group.Compared with the model group,cell activity was increased in the Ad-hTERT group,and peaked at day 3 post-transfection(P<0.05). Neuroprotective effects also peaked at day 3 post-transfection;and the apoptotic rate,Cdk5 and p16 expression significantly decreased(P<0.01). 12Research progress on space charge layer effect in lithium-ion solid-state battery显示文摘The development of lithium-ion solid electrolyte provides new ideas for solving the safety problems of secondary lithium-ion batteries(LIB) and, at the same time, the improvement of energy density. However, the consequent solid-solid interfacial problems have become a typical bottleneck to the performance. It has been considered that the space charge layer(SCL) formed at the interface to balance the sharp electrochemical inherent difference of properties is one of the most important factors that affect the ion transportation along and across the interface. Its existence may hinder ion transportation and increase the interfacial impedance but may also help to provide a new percolation path for lithium ion and so to enhance the ion migration. However the mechanism of SPL formation and its regulation on ion transport is not very clear, so it has raised a lot of attention and interest from LIB researchers. The purpose of this article is to try to gain some knowledge of SCL and, at the same time to browse through the related research in recent years. 17Cationic and Anionic Antimicrobial Agents Co‑Templated Mesostructured Silica Nanocomposites with a Spiky Nanotopology and Enhanced Biofilm Inhibition Performance显示文摘Silica-based materials are usually used as delivery systems for antibacterial applications.In rare cases,bactericidal cationic surfactant templated silica composites have been reported as antimicrobial agents.However,their antibacterial efficacy is limited due to limited control in content and structure.Herein,we report a“dual active templating”strategy in the design of nanostructured silica composites with intrinsic antibacterial performance.This strategy uses cationic and anionic structural directing agents as dual templates,both with active antibacterial property.The cationic-anionic dual active templating strategy further contributes to antibacterial nanocomposites with a spiky surface.With controllable release of dual active antibacterial agents,the spiky nanocomposite displays enhanced anti-microbial and anti-biofilm properties toward Staphylococcus epidermidis.These findings pave a new avenue toward the designed synthesis of novel antibacterial nanocomposites with improved performance for diverse antibacterial applications.Yaping Song Qiang Sun Jiangqi Luo Yueqi Kong Bolin Pan Jing Zhao Yue Wang Chengzhong Yu 2022Nano-Micro Letters2022,14,5:0
18Heavy metals in road-deposited sediment and runoff in urban and intercity expressways显示文摘Road-deposited sediments(RDS)accumulated on road surfaces are an important environmental medium that often provides transport for heavy metals.In order to understand the characteristics of heavy metals in RDS,we investigated the size distribution and heavy metal(i.e.Cd,Cr,Cu,Ni,Pb and Zn)concentrations in RDS and road runoff in typical expressways of suburban and rural area in China.The results demonstrated that RDS particles from all impervious expressway surfaces were predominantly coarse particles(>250μm,58.4%±3.8%)and the RDS on all expressways contained more heavy metals than background soils.Furthermore,the concentrations of Cd,Cr,Cu,Ni,Pb and Zn increased with traffic volume,suggesting that these heavy metals are mainly derived from traffic activities.Moreover,it is found that although heavy metals were concentrated in fine grain fractions,the total loading is highest for the coarsest particles due to their large mass percentage.Additionally,it reveals that the heavy metal concentrations in road runoff of suburban expressway are higher than that in urban expressway.Our findings enhance the understanding of expressway pollution,and imply that for controlling runoff pollution from RDS,transportation agencies should be concerned with both fine and coarse particles and take cleaning methods into account.Shuohan Gao Xinjun Wang Hua Li Yaping Kong Jiding Chen Zheng Chen 2022Transportation Safety and Environment2022,4,1:0
19Association of accelerometer-measured sleep duration and different intensities of physical activity with incident type 2 diabetes in a population-based cohort study显示文摘Purpose:The aim of the current study was to investigate the association of accelerometer-measured sleep duration and different intensities of physical activity(PA)with the risk of incident type 2 diabetes in a population-based prospective cohort study.Methods:Altogether,88,000 participants(mean age=62.2±7.9 years,mean±SD)were included from the UK Biobank.Sleep duration(short:<6 h/day;normal:6-8 h/day;long:>8 h/day)and PA of different intensities were measured using a wrist-won accelerometer over a 7-day period between 2013 and 2015.PA was classified according to the median or World Health Organization-recommendation:total volume of PA(high,low),moderate-to-vigorous PA(MVPA)(recommended,not recommended),and light-intensity PA(high,low).Incidence of type 2diabetes was ascertained using hospital records or death registries.Results:During a median follow-up of 7.0 years,1615 incident type 2 diabetes cases were documented.Compared with normal sleep duration,short(hazard ratio(HR)=1.21,95%confidence interval(95%CI):1.03-1.41)but not long sleep duration(HR=1.01,95%CI:0.89-1.15)was associated with excessive type 2 diabetes risk.This increased risk among short sleepers seems to be protected against by PA.Compared with normal sleepers with high or recommended PA,short sleepers with low volume of PA(HR=1.81,95%CI:1.46-2.25),not recommended(below the World Health Organization-recommended level of)MVPA(HR=1.92,95%CI:1.55-2.36),or low light-intensity PA(HR=1.49,95%CI:1.13-1.90)had a higher risk of type 2 diabetes,while short sleepers with a high volume of PA(HR=1.14,95%CI:0.88-1.49),recommended MVPA(HR=1.02,95%CI:0.71-1.48),or high light-intensity PA(HR=1.14,95%CI:0.92-1.41)did not.Conclusion:Accelerometer-measured short but not long sleep duration was associated with a higher risk of incident type 2 diabetes.A higher level of PA,regardless of intensity,potentially ameliorates this excessive risk.Xinyi Jin Yilin Chen Hongliang Feng Mingqing Zhou Joey W.Y.Chang Yaping Liu Alice Pik Shan Kong Xiao Tan Yun-Kwok Wing Yannis Yan Liang Jihui Zhang 2024Journal of Sport and Health Science2024,13,2:0
20Revealing the roles of components in glucose selective hydrogenation into 1,2-propanediol and ethylene glycol over Ni-MnO_x-ZnO catalysts显示文摘MnOx-promoted Ni-based catalyst supported by ZnO was developed to selectively hydrogenate glucose into polyols in water at 523 K with a yield of 64.9%. Using glucose, sorbitol, glycerol and LA as the rawmaterials, the roles of nickel, ZnO and MnOx were investigated. The results show that nickel provided a new pathway of glucose to sorbitol and played an important role in the hydrogenation of C3 intermediates to 1,2-propanediol(1,2-PDO). The high yield of 1, 2-PDO was attributed to effective C–C bond cleavage performance of ZnO support promoted by MnOx. ZnO and MnOx contribute to the conversion of glycerol to lactic acid(LA) and LA to 1, 2-PDO, respectively.
