1Diatoms from the southwestern continental slope,South China Sea,and their paleoenvironmental significance since the last glacial times显示文摘A quantitative study was undertaken on diatoms from cores(SA08-34) obtained from the southwestern continental slope of the South China Sea(SCS).A total of 165 diatom species belonging to 45 genera were identified.We constructed a stratigraphic subdivision and correlation according to the characteristics of diatom assemblages together with 14C dating and carbonate analysis.We also discuss the sedimentary environment in the sea area since the last glacial times.The research shows that the diatom assemblages coincide with inter-glacial and glacial times,and changes in diatom abundance reflect the instability of the climate in the southern part of the SCS,such that shortterm,temperature descending events correlate with the interglacial interval.The abundance of diatoms is relevant to interglacial and glacial times,since high abundance values were associated with an interglacial interval,and low abundance values with the last glacial maximum.We assume that strong upwelling developed in the interglacial interval,the development of which was influenced by variations of monsoons in the East Asian region.Meiqin Sun Dongzhao Lan Zhimin Cao 2009Progress in Natural Science:Materials International2009,19,10:4
2Dinoflagellate cysts in recent marine sediment from Guangxi, China显示文摘Total of 33 species of dinoflagellate cysts were discovered from surface sediment in the searegion of Guangxi, among them 12 cyst types (Diplopsalopsis sp. 1, D. sp.2, D. sp.3, Cochlodiniumsp., Protoperidinium sp. 1, P. sp. 2, P.compressum, Scrippsiella sp. 1, S. sp. 2, Alexandriumsp. 1, A. sp. 2, A. sp. 3) were first reported from the South China Sea. And one cyst type(Cochlodinium sp. ) was first reported in the world. Scrippsiella trochoidea is the dominant species inthis area, accounting for 45 % of all the cysts. There are 2 cysts of toxic dinoflagellate (Alexandriumtamarensis and Gymnodinium catenatum ). 3Late Quaternary diatom and sea level changes in estuarine plain of the Jiulong River显示文摘Four units and twenty-four zones of diatom have been discerned in the Borehole ZK5 in the estuarine plain of the Jiulong River, Fujian Province. Comprehensive analysis of these, together with microbiological assemblages and age determinations in some other boreholes, shows that during the Late Wurm Glacial, sea level of the study area rose and fell frequently, but had principally been in the environments of estuary-bay. This mainly resulted from the tectonic subouction. In this period 3 low sea levels occurred. at 18, 16 and 12 kaBP respectively. 5Preliminary study on taxonomy of dinoflagellate cysts from major estuary and bays of Fujian Province, China显示文摘According to the morphology, wall structure, color, ornamentation, etc., 25 speciesbelonging to 9 genera are identified and described from 144 sediment samples of the Xiamen Harbor, themouth of the Minjiang River and the Sansha Bay. Among them there are 2 toxic species: Alexandriumminutun,A.tamarenes, 4 harmful species: Alexandrium affine,Lingulodinium polyedrum,Scrippsiella trochoide,Gonyaulax spinifera. 6A preliminary study on diatoms and silicoflagellatesin cores from CC Zone, the East Pacific显示文摘After analyzing the diatoms and silicoflagellates in the 1787 of east area and the 2437 of west area from CC Zone, the East Pacific, 31 genus and 81 species and varieties of diatom and 7 genus and 12 species of silicoflagellates are identified. There are 8 diatom zones in Core 1787 and 1 diatom Zone in Core 2437. According to the characteristics of diatom zones and the occurring and extinct ages of some diatom and silicoflagellate species, the strata since Oligocene in the region are subdivided. 7Paleoenvironmental Evolution of the Beilun River Estuary,Northwest South China Sea,During the Past 20,000 Years Based on Diatoms显示文摘The paleoenvironmental history of the Beilun River estuary on the coast of Beibu Gulf in the northwest South China Sea is reconstructed based on fossil diatoms,isotopic dating,sedimentary grain size data,mineralogy and geochemistry in three sediment core samples. Results show that the estuary has experienced significant environmental changes since deposition began about 20,000 yr ago. Freshwater runoff of the Beilun River initially was strong. However,the freshwater runoff reduced significantly after a transgressive event. Subsequently the estuary's position began to migrate to the northeast. At the end of the Late Pleistocene the estuary shifted gradually towards the southwest. In the Early-Mid Holocene,the estuary's geomorphology was shaped by seawater transgressing into the ancient river channel. The basin was filled continuously but slowly to form the present Beilun River estuary. 8Transgressions and the sea-level changes of the western Taiwan Strait since the Late Pleistocene显示文摘The sedimentary sequences since the Late Pleistocene can be divided into Layers E, D, C, B, A from old to young according to systematic analysis of grain-size, pollen and spore, diatom, foraminifera, radiocarbon dating and paleogeomagnetism of 16 sedimentary cores from the sea area of the western Taiwan Strait. The results proved the existences of the Langqi transgression (upper section of Layer D) formed in middle and late stages of early Wurm glacial period, Fuzhou transgression (Layer C) formed in Wurm sub-interglacial period and Changle transgression (Layer A) formed in postglacial period. It was also the first time to discover the Jinmen transgression (Layer E) formed in Riss -Wurm interglacial period.
