| 1 | Major Modes of Short-Term Climate Variability in the Newly Developed NUIST Earth System Model(NESM)显示文摘A coupled earth system model(ESM) has been developed at the Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology(NUIST) by using version 5.3 of the European Centre Hamburg Model(ECHAM), version 3.4 of the Nucleus for European Modelling of the Ocean(NEMO), and version 4.1 of the Los Alamos sea ice model(CICE). The model is referred to as NUIST ESM1(NESM1). Comprehensive and quantitative metrics are used to assess the model's major modes of climate variability most relevant to subseasonal-to-interannual climate prediction. The model's assessment is placed in a multi-model framework. The model yields a realistic annual mean and annual cycle of equatorial SST, and a reasonably realistic precipitation climatology, but has difficulty in capturing the spring–fall asymmetry and monsoon precipitation domains. The ENSO mode is reproduced well with respect to its spatial structure, power spectrum, phase locking to the annual cycle, and spatial structures of the central Pacific(CP)-ENSO and eastern Pacific(EP)-ENSO; however, the equatorial SST variability,biennial component of ENSO, and the amplitude of CP-ENSO are overestimated. The model captures realistic intraseasonal variability patterns, the vertical-zonal structures of the first two leading predictable modes of Madden–Julian Oscillation(MJO), and its eastward propagation; but the simulated MJO speed is significantly slower than observed. | 2 | Cenozoic tectonic and sedimentary evolution of southern Qaidam Basin, NE Tibetan Plateau and its implication for the rejuvenation of Eastern Kunlun Mountains显示文摘The Eastern Kunlun Mountains play an important role in the growth and eastward extrusion of the Tibetan Plateau. Tectonic and sedimentary study of the Cenozoic Qaidam Basin, especially the southern part, provides key evidence for understanding their evolution. Here we present evidence including isopach maps, seismic sections and sedimentary analysis of single well to illustrate the sedimentary development of the basin and the structural features of its southern margin. The Qaidam Basin extended across Qiman Tagh-Eastern Kunlun Mountains in the early Cenozoic and withdrew northward at ca. 35.5 Ma, and then buckled as an EW striking elliptical depression since ca. 14.9 Ma, with the main depocenter migrating eastward. | 4 | Effect of biodiesel on the particle size distribution in the exhaust of common-rail diesel engine and the mechanism of nanoparticle formation显示文摘Effect of biodiesel blends on the particle size distribution (PSD) of exhaust aerosol and the mechanism of nanoparticle formation were investigated with a modern common rail light-duty diesel engine. The results showed that PSD of diesel included two modes:nucleation mode (NM) and accumulation mode (CM). The criterion diameter of the two modes is 50 nm. Only CM was observed for all fuels under the condition of 50 N.m,2000 r/min. When the engine torque was higher than 150 N.m,log-modal PSD of diesel shifted to bimodal. At higher loads,if the biodiesel blend ratio was below 60%,the PSD of biodiesel blends still included the two modes. However,no NM particles were found for pure biodiesel. At lower loads,only CM was found in PSD of all fuels. Significant reduction of CM particles was found for biodiesel blends compared with diesel. Discussion on the mechanism of nanoparticle formation indicated that for the light-duty diesel engine with oxidation catalysts,fuel consumption and exhaust temperature increased with increasing the engine loads,and SO2 was converted to SO3 by catalyst which,in its hydrated form,could act as the precursor for biodiesel NM formation. | 5 | Shock wave generation and its influencing parameters based on diesel injector显示文摘Based on schlieren imaging method the shock wave generated by diesel injector has been investigated,and the influences of ambient gas property, the progress of the spray, ambient gas density and ambient gas temperature on shock wave have been analyzed. The results show that:the images of spray shock wave are cleaner using sulfur hexafluoride(SF6) as ambient gas than using the nitrogen(N2); at the beginning of injection, shock wave phenomenon does not generate immediately as the fuel leave the nozzle because of the needle movement, and the hesitation is decided by the injection condition and characteristics of injector. The generation of shock wave in the spray tip and the detachment of shock wave from the spray tip show little effect on the spray macroscopic characteristics. | 6 | Simultaneous measurement of particle velocity and size based on gray difference and autocorrelation显示文摘The gray of two images of a same particle taken by a digital camera with different exposure times is different too. Based on the gray difference of particle images in a double-exposed photo and autocorrelation processing of digital images,this paper proposes a method for measuring particle velocities and sizes simultaneously. This paper also introduces the theoretical foundation of this method,the process of particle imaging and image processing,and the simultaneous measurement of velocity and size of a low speed flow field with 35 μm and 75 μm standard particles. The graphical measurement results can really reflect the flow characteristics of the flow field. In addition,although the measured velocity and size histograms of these two kinds of standard particles are slightly wider than the theoretical ones,they are all still similar to the normal distribution,and the peak velocities and diameters of the histograms are consistent with the default values. | 7 | Atmospheric extinction properties in Shenyang,China显示文摘Atmospheric visibility impairment due to human activities is becoming increasingly significant in metropolitan Shenyang,China.In this study,hourly data of relevant factors throughout the year 2010 in Shenyang were used to evaluate the local atmospheric extinction properties.The results show that the average coefficient of total extinction and aerosol single-scattering albedo in 2010 were 622.72 Mm^(-1)and 0.87,respectively,values that are characteristic of the 'municipal pollution type'.Visibility is most impaired during winter and especially in January.The coefficient of total extinction exhibits a single daily cycle with a maximum at 5-6 am and a minimum at 3 pm.The mean extinction contributions of the constituents,from high to low,were particle scattering(87.49%),particle absorption,gas absorption,and gas scattering.The extinction contribution of gas molecules was little more than 4.5%,far smaller than that of particles.Scattering by particles was the main contributor to extinction,especially in the morning and around midnight. | Ningwei Liu Yanjun Ma Jianzhong Ma Yangfeng Wang Suying Yang Liguang Li | 2015 | Particuology2015,13,1: | 3 |
| 8 | Experimental study on multi-point autoignition characteristics and influence factors of diesel spray in a controllable active thermo-atmosphere显示文摘Auto-ignition characteristics of high-pressure diesel spray in the controllable active thermo-atmos-phere (CATA) were studied with a high-speed camera video system. Multi-point autoignition phe-nomenon of diesel spray in the CATA was observed and the influence factors of the autoignition were analyzed. The stabilization mechanisms of the spray flame in different coflow temperatures were also discussed. The stabilization of the flames was controlled by different factors: autoignition phenomenon in low coflow temperature and flame spread in high coflow temperature. The test results also show that the autoignition delay depends strongly on the coflow temperature and has nonlinear relationship with the temperature. Autoignition delay decreases by almost 10 ms from 16.9 to 7.1 ms when the coflow temperature increases from 996 to 1048 K and only 4 ms from 1048 to 1101 K. The injection parameters in terms of nozzle diameter, injection pressure and pump speed, have some effects on autoignition delay while these effects depend on the coflow temperature. The significant effect lies in low coflow temperature. | 11 | Sustainable Ammonia Synthesis from Nitrogen and Water by One-Step Plasma Catalysis显示文摘Sustainable ammonia synthesis at ambient conditions that relies on renewable sources of energy and feedstocks is globally sought to replace the Haber-Bosch process.Here,using nitrogen and water as raw materials,a nonthermal plasma catalysis approach is demonstrated as an effective powerto-chemicals conversion strategy for ammonia production.By sustaining a highly reactive environment,successful plasma-catalytic production of NH_(3) was achieved from the dissociation of N_(2) and H_(2)O under mild conditions.Plasma-induced vibrational excitation is found to decrease the N_(2) and H_(2)O dissociation barriers,with the presence of matched catalysts in the nonthermal plasma discharge reactor contributing significantly to molecular dissociation on the catalyst surface.Density functional theory calculations for the activation energy barrier for the dissociation suggest that ruthenium catalysts supported on magnesium oxide exhibit superior performance over other catalysts in NH_(3) production by lowering the activation energy for the dissociative adsorption of N_(2) down to 1.07 eV.The highest production rate,2.67 mmol gcat.^(-1) h^(-1),was obtained using ruthenium catalyst supported on magnesium oxide.This work highlights the potential of nonthermal plasma catalysis for the activation of renewable sources to serve as a new platform for sustainable ammonia production. | Tianqi Zhang Renwu Zhou Shuai Zhang Rusen Zhou Jia Ding Fengwang Li Jungmi Hong Liguang Dou Tao Shao Anthony B.Murphy Kostya(Ken)Ostrikov Patrick J.Cullen | 2023 | Energy & Environmental Materials2023,6,2: | 1 |
| 12 | Thermogravimetric analysis of fuel film evaporation显示文摘Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was compared with the petrochemical distillation meas- urement method to better understand the character- istics of fuel film evaporation at different wall tem- peratures. The film evaporation characteristics of 90# gasoline, 93# gasoline and 0# diesel with different initial thicknesses were investigated at different en- vironmental fluxes and heating rates. The influences of heating rate, film thickness and environmental flux on fuel film evaporation for these fuels were found. The results showed that the environmental conditions in TGA were similar to those for fuel films in the in- ternal combustion engines, so data from TGA were suitable for the analysis of fuel film evaporation. TGA could simulate the key influencing factors for fuel film evaporation and could investigate the basic quantifi- cational effect of heating rate and film thickness. To get a rapid and sufficient fuel film evaporation, suffi- ciently high wall temperature is necessary. Evapora- tion time decreases at a high heating rate and thin film thickness, and intense gas flow is important to promoting fuel film evaporation. Data from TGA at a heating rate of 100℃/min are fit to analyze the diesel film evaporation during cold-start and warming-up. Due to the tense molecular interactions, the evapora- tion sequence could not be strictly divided according to the boiling points of each component for multi- component dissolved mixture during the quick evaporation process, and the heavier components could vaporize before reaching their boiling points. | 17 | Activities of autonomic neurotransmitters in meibomian gland tissues are associated with menopausal dry eye显示文摘The secretory activities of meibomian glands are regulated by the autonomic nervous system. The change in density and activity of autonomic nerves in meibomian glands during menopause play an important role in the pathogenesis of dry eye. In view of this, we established a dry eye rat model by removing the bilateral ovaries. We used neuropeptide Y and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide as markers of autonomic neurotransmitters. Our results showed that the concentration of estradiol in serum significantly decreased, the density of neuropeptide Y immunoreactivity in nerve fibers significantly increased, the density of vasoactive intestinal polypeptide immunoreactivity in nerve fibers significantly decreased, and the ratio of vasoactive intestinal polypeptide/neuropeptide Y positive staining significantly decreased. | 19 | Increased hippocampal Disrupted-In-Schizophrenia 1 expression in mice exposed prenatally to lead显示文摘Disrupted-In-Schizophrenia 1 is a susceptibility gene for schizophrenia and other psychiatric dis-orders. Developmental lead exposure can cause neurological disorders similar to hyperactivity dis-order, dyslexia and schizophrenia. In the present study, we examined the impact of developmental lead exposure, administered in vitro and in vivo, on hippocampal Disrupted-In- Schizophrenia 1 expression. Our results show that in cultured hippocampal neurons, in vitro exposure to 0.1-10 μM lead, inhibited neurite growth and increased Disrupted-In-Schizophrenia 1 mRNA and protein ex-pression dose-dependently. In addition, blood lead levels in mice were increased with increasing mouse maternal lead (0.01-1 mM) exposure. Hippocampal neurons from these mice showed a concomitant increase in Disrupted-In-Schizophrenia 1 mRNA and protein expression.
