84-methylumbelliferone (4-MU) enhances drought tolerance of apple by regulating rhizosphere microbial diversity and root architecture显示文摘The dwarfing rootstocks-mediated high-density apple orchard is becoming the main practice management.Currently,dwarfing rootstocks are widely used worldwide,but their shallow root system and drought sensitivity necessitate high irrigation requirements.Here,the root transcriptome and metabolome of dwarfing(M9-T337,a drought-sensitive rootstock)and vigorous rootstocks(Malus sieversii,a drought-tolerant species,is commonly used as a rootstock)showed that a coumarin derivative,4-Methylumbelliferon(4-MU),was found to accumulate significantly in the roots of vigorous rootstock under drought condition.When exogenous 4-MU was applied to the roots of dwarfing rootstock under drought treatment,the plants displayed increased root biomass,higher root-to-shoot ratio,greater photosynthesis,and elevated water use efficiency.In addition,diversity and structure analysis of the rhizosphere soil microbial community demonstrated that 4-MU treatment increased the relative abundance of putatively beneficial bacteria and fungi.Of these,Pseudomonas,Bacillus,Streptomyces,and Chryseolinea bacterial strains and Acremonium,Trichoderma,and Phoma fungal strains known for root growth,or systemic resistance against drought stress,were significantly accumulated in the roots of dwarfing rootstock after 4-MU treatment under drought stress condition.Taken together,we identified a promising compound—4-MU,as a useful tool,to strengthen the drought tolerance of apple dwarfing rootstock.Dehui Zhang Jieqiang He Pengda Cheng Yutian Zhang Abid Khan Shicong Wang Zhongxing Li Shuang Zhao Xiangqiang Zhan Fengwang Ma Xuewei Li Qingmei Guan 2023Horticulture Research2023,10,7:0
9Identification and fine mapping of a fertility restorer gene for wild abortive cytoplasmic male sterility in the elite indica rice non-restorer line 9311显示文摘The wild abortive(WA)-type cytoplasmic male sterility(CMS)derived from the wild rice species Oryza rufipogon Griff.is used widely in three-line indica hybrids.The identification and mapping of restorer of fertility(Rf)genes aided in the development of WA-type hybrids.Here we report that testcross F1 plants from the WA-type CMS line and 9311 exhibited stainable pollen grains with no seed set,indicating that 9311 carries minor-effect Rfs for WA-type CMS.We developed an advanced backcross population consisting of plants harboring small regions of donor chromosomal segments from 9311 in the WATianfeng A genetic background with moderate seed setting rates.Genetic analysis showed that the pollen fertility levels of the backcross individuals are governed by a single gene from 9311 that we named Rf19(t).By use of the RICE 40 K gene chip,three introduced segments were identified in the fertile lines,and a candidate region spanning 4.37–8.29 Mb on chromosome 1 was identified for Rf19(t).Finally,Rf19(t)was fine-mapped to a region of 90 kb between the DNA marker loci STS1-163 and STS1-183,in which eight ORFs were predicted.Also,using relative expression analyses,comparative sequence analyses and functional domain analyses,we identified LOC_Os01g10530 as the most likely candidate gene for Rf19(t).Furthermore,Rf19(t)was found to function in fertility restoration,most probably by regulating the degradation of m RNA transcribed from the mitochondrial gene WA352.These results increase our knowledge of fertility restoration in WA-type CMS lines and will facilitate the development of high-quality pairs of WAtype CMS and maintainer lines.Zuopeng Xu Yuanyue Du Xixu Li Ruixuan Wang Zhi'ai Chen Xiangqiang Zhao Qiaoquan Liu Shuzhu Tang Honggen Zhang 2023The Crop Journal2023,11,3:0
10Tuning Polymer Molecular Weight Distribution in Cationic RAFT Polymerization by Mixing Chain Transfer Agents显示文摘Polymer dispersity (Đ) or molecular weight distribution (MWD) is a basic but vital parameter for the properties of polymeric materials. Developing new methodologies for controlling polymer MWD is emerging as a research hotspot. However, the methods to tune polymer MWD in cationic polymerization are still not well explored. Herein, we present a simple method to control the dispersity of poly(isobutyl vinyl ether) (PIBVE) by mixing two different chain transfer agents in batch visible light induced cationic RAFT polymerization. A broad dispersity range (Đ ≈ 1.16—1.80) was successfully achieved while maintaining monomodal MWD.
