| 1 | Trace metals in atmospheric fine particles in one industrial urban city: Spatial variations, sources, and health implications显示文摘Trace metals in PM2.5were measured at one industrial site and one urban site during September, 2010 in Ji'nan, eastern China. Individual aerosol particles and PM2.5samples were collected concurrently at both sites. Mass concentrations of eleven trace metals(i.e., Al, Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Sr, Ba, and Pb) and one metalloid(i.e., As) were measured by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy(ICP-AES). The result shows that mass concentrations of PM2.5(130 μg/m3) and trace metals(4.03 μg/m3) at the industrial site were 1.3 times and 1.7 times higher than those at the urban site, respectively, indicating that industrial activities nearby the city can emit trace metals into the surrounding atmosphere. Fe concentrations were the highest among all the measured trace metals at both sites, with concentrations of 1.04 μg/m3at the urban site and 2.41 μg/m3at the industrial site, respectively. In addition, Pb showed the highest enrichment factors at both sites, suggesting the emissions from anthropogenic activities existed around the city. Correlation coefcient analysis and principal component analysis revealed that Cu, Fe, Mn, Pb, and Zn were originated from vehicular trafc and industrial emissions at both sites; As, Cr, and part of Pb from coal-fired power plant; Ba and Ti from natural soil. Based on the transmission electron microscopy analysis, we found that most of the trace metals were internally mixed with secondary sulfate/organic particles. | 2 | Cost-benefit analysis of China’s Action Plan for Air Pollution Prevention and Control显示文摘China’s rapid economic growth has caused severe air pollution and public health problems.Therefore,the Chinese government launched the Action Plan for Air Pollution Prevention and Control(hereinafter referred to as the“Air Plan”)in 2013-2017 to improve air quality and safeguard public health.In this study,an analytical framework for a cost-benefit analysis applicable to China was constructed,and the costs and benefits of the implementation of the“Air Plan”in 30 cities and provinces in China from 2013 to 2017 were evaluated.Results show that the total cost of implementation of the“Air Plan”is 1.6511 trillion RMB.The benefits of air quality improvement were determined to be 2.4691 trillion RMB through the willingness-to-pay method to calculate the economic loss of premature deaths.The net benefit related to the implementation of the“Air Plan”was 818 billion RMB.The public health benefit of air quality improvement was 1.5 times the cost of the nationwide implementation of the“Air Plan”.At the provincial level,net benefits that reach 279.3 billion RMB were the highest in Guangdong,whereas the benefit-cost ratio,where the benefit was 5.5 times the cost,was the highest in Fujian.Estimations in this study can serve as a reference for China in formulating similar environmental policies and implementing the “3-year Plan to Defend the Blue Sky”.In addition,these estimations have practical significance for advancing the long-term effective mechanisms of the cost-benefit analysis of China5s environmental policies. | Jing ZHANG Hongqiang JIANG Wei ZHANG Guoxia MA Yanchao WANG Yaling LU Xi HU Jia ZHOU Fei PENG Jun BI Jinnan WANG | 2019 | Frontiers of Engineering Management2019,6,4: | 4 |
| 3 | The genome of Magnolia biondii Pamp. provides insights into the evolution of Magnoliales and biosynthesis of terpenoids显示文摘Magnolia biondii Pamp.(Magnoliaceae,magnoliids)is a phylogenetically,economically,and medicinally important ornamental tree species widely grown and cultivated in the north-temperate regions of China.Determining the genome sequence of M.biondii would help resolve the phylogenetic uncertainty of magnoliids and improve the understanding of individual trait evolution within the Magnolia genus.We assembled a chromosome-level reference genome of M.biondii using~67,~175,and~154Gb of raw DNA sequences generated via Pacific Biosciences single-molecule real-time sequencing,10X Genomics Chromium,and Hi-C scaffolding strategies,respectively.The final genome assembly was~2.22Gb,with a contig N50 value of 269.11 kb and a BUSCO complete gene percentage of 91.90%.Approximately 89.17%of the genome was organized into 19 chromosomes,resulting in a scaffold N50 of 92.86Mb.The genome contained 47,547 protein-coding genes,accounting for 23.47%of the genome length,whereas 66.48%of the genome length consisted of repetitive elements.We confirmed a WGD event that occurred very close to the time of the split between the Magnoliales and Laurales.Functional enrichment of the Magnolia-specific and expanded gene families highlighted genes involved in the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites,plant–pathogen interactions,and responses to stimuli,which may improve the ecological fitness and biological adaptability of the lineage.Phylogenomic analyses revealed a sister relationship of magnoliids and Chloranthaceae,which are sister to a clade comprising monocots and eudicots.The genome sequence of M.biondii could lead to trait improvement,germplasm conservation,and evolutionary studies on the rapid radiation of early angiosperms. | Shanshan Dong Min Liu Yang Liu Fei Chen Ting Yang Lu Chen Xingtan Zhang Xing Guo Dongming Fang Linzhou Li Tian Deng Zhangxiu Yao Xiaoan Lang Yiqing Gong Ernest Wu Yaling Wang Yamei Shen Xun Gong Huan Liu Shouzhou Zhang | 2021 | Horticulture Research2021,8,1: | 4 |
| 4 | Composition and mixing state of water soluble inorganic ions during hazy days in a background region of North China显示文摘Knowledge of haze particles in background areas of North China is limited, although they have been studied well in urban settings. Atmospheric aerosol particles were collected at a background site in the North China Plain during 16–31 January, 2011. Water soluble inorganic ions of PM2.5 and physicochemical characteristics of individual particles on hazy and clean days were measured by Ion Chromatography(IC) and Transmission Electron Microscopy(TEM), respectively. Average PM2.5 mass concentration was 50.4±29.9 μg m?3 with 62.5±26.8 μg m?3 on hazy days and 19.9±11.5 μg m?3 on clean days. SO42?, NO3?, and NH4+ with a combined mass concentration of 19.0±11.5 μg m?3 accounted for 69.8%–89.4% of the total water soluble inorganic ions. Size distributions of SO42? and NH4+ showed one unimodal peak at 0.56–1.8 μm on hazy days, whereas NO3? appeared as bimodal peaks at 0.56–1.8 and 5.6–10 μm, respectively. Individual particle analyses showed that the dominant aerosols were a mixture of sulfate, nitrate, and carbonaceous species, which together determine their mixing states. 48-h air mass back trajectories on hazy days suggested that air masses crossed the polluted continental areas(such as Jing-jin-ji region and Shandong province) and entrained ground air pollutants 11–19 hours before reaching the background area. During long-range transport particles undergo ageing and tend to be internally mixed mainly due to condensation in the background atmosphere. | 17 | A test of genetic divergence of a bird existing in the Sichuan Basin and its surrounding mountain ranges显示文摘Island ecosystems,serving as natural laboratories,facilitate geographical isolation,ecological specialization,and species divergence.The Sichuan Basin,surrounded by mountain ranges,represents a typical continental island due to its marked environmental spatial heterogeneity.This heterogeneity may contribute to geographical isolation and habitat heterogeneity,resulting in genetic divergence within populations.Therefore,we used the White-browed Laughingthrush(Garrulax sannio)as a model specimen to investigate the genetic divergence in the Sichuan Basin and its surrounding mountain ranges,given its presence in various habitats within and beyond this basin.Employing a RAD-seq dataset of 140 G.sannio individuals from 17 distinct ecological zones in the Sichuan Basin and its surrounding mountain ranges,we conducted PCA,population structure analysis,phylogenetic tree construction,and gene flow analysis to comprehensively analyze G.sannio groups.Additionally,in conjunction with geographical and ecological data,we performed isolation by distance,isolation by environment,PCA,and latent factor mixed model analysis to identify factors influencing the genetic divergence among these G.sannio groups.In summary,the 17 G.sannio groups were categorized into high-elevation,medium-elevation,and lowelevation groups.Genetic divergence in G.sannio may be attributed to both geographical distance and key ecological factors,particularly elevation and key climatic variables.Notably,the high-elevation group exhibited a greater number of SNPs and selected genes associated with the key ecological factors compared to the lowelevation group.The ADCY9 gene and several associated key pathways were identified as crucial elements driving ecological adaptation(elevation and key climatic variables)in the high-elevation group.Furthermore,climate changes during the glacial cycles may have facilitated gene flow among these groups residing in the Sichuan Basin and its surrounding mountain ranges.Our findings provide evidence of genetic divergence in G.sannio influenced by the geographical distance and key ecological factors between the Sichuan Basin and its surrounding mountain ranges.These results lay the groundwork for future research on the molecular systematics of continental islands. | Lu Wang Fangqing Liu Lan Zhao Yaling Xu Tianyu Zhang Longying Wen | 2023 | Avian Research2023,14,4: | 0 |
