| 1 | Ethanol extracts of Scutellaria baicalensis protect against lipopolysaccharide-induced acute liver injury in mice显示文摘Objective: To investigated the protective potential of ethanol extracts of Scutellaria baicalensis(S. baicalensis) against lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced liver injury. Methods: Dried roots of S. baicalensis were extracted with ethanol and concentrated to yield a dry residue. Mice were administered 200 mg/kg of the ethanol extracts orally once daily for one week. Animals were subsequently administered a single dose of LPS(5 mg/kg of body weight, intraperitoneal injection). Both protein and m RNA levels of cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor alpha, interleukin-1β, and interleukin-6 in liver tissues were evaluated by ELISA assay and quantitative PCR. C yclooxygenase-2, inducible nitric oxide synthase, and nuclear factor-κB protein levels in liver tissues were analyzed by western blotting. Results: Liver injury induced by LPS signifi cantly increased necrosis factor alpha, interleukin-1β, interleukin-6, cyclooxygenase-2, inducible nitric oxide synthase, and nuclear factor-κB in liver tissues. | 9 | Antibiotic usage in surgical sperm retrievals among IVF centers显示文摘Surgical sperm retrieval(SSR)is currently one of the most common procedures in in vitro fertilization(IVF).However,a gap between the guidelines and routine clinical practice regarding antibiotic use in sSR,which might lead to antibiotic resistance,is a challenging problem worldwide.A cross-sectional survey was conducted from May 1,2021,to July 15,2021,to investigate antibiotic usage by medical professionals when performing SSR in IVF centers in Vietnam.The confidential questionnaire comprised 12 items,including characteristics of the study population,awareness of antimicrobial resistance,attitude toward prescribing antibiotics,and current practice of prescribing antibiotics when performing SSR.Surveys were completed by 30 of 45 registered IVF centers(66.7%).Among 67 physicians working at those centers,the age and work-experience years(mean±standard deviation[s.d.])were 38.6±6.6 years and 11.2±7.0 years,respectively.Over 60%of them held a degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology,and over four-fifths were men.Most respondents'often/very often/always'raised awareness of antimicrobial resistance to their patients(83.3%),but only half of them'often/occasionally'prescribed antibiotics to patients with SSR in cases where the prescription would be optional.About one-tenth of respondents followed the recommendation from the American Urological Association using'prophylaxis only'for SSR patients.For more invasive SSR,physicians tended to prescribe more complicated and sometimes inappropriate regimens.In conclusion,antibiotic usage in SSR was not always appropriate among IVF centers.Further studies may define specific recommendations for regimens,intervention strategies,and programs to promote appropriate antibiotic use for SSR patients among IVF specialists. | Le Dang Khoa Ngo Dinh Trieu Vy Nguyen Minh Tai Loc Le Duc Thang Dang Tuan Anh Nguyen Phuc Hieu Giang Huynh Nhu Nguyen Dinh Tao Le Hoang David J Handelsman | 2022 | Asian Journal of Andrology2022,24,6: | 0 |

| 12 | Investigation.of human visual cortex responses to flickering light using functional near infrared spectroscopy and constrained ICA显示文摘The human visual sensitivity to the flickering light has been under investigation for decades.The finding of research in this area can contribute to the understanding of human visual system mechanism and visual disorders,and establishing diagnosis and treatment of diseases.The aim of this study is to investigate the ffects of the flickering light to the visual cortex by monitoring the hemodynamic responses of the brain with the functional near infrared spectrosoopy(ENIRS)method.Since the acquired fNIRS signals are afected by physiological factors and measurement artifacts,constrained independent component analysis(eICA)was applied to extract the actual fNIRS responses from the obtained data.The experimental results revealed significant changes(p<0.0001)of the hemodynamic responses of the visual cortex.from the baseline when the flickering stimulation was activated.With the uses of cICA,the contrast to noise ratio(CNR),reflecting the contrast of hemodynamic concentration between rest and task,became larger.This indicated the improvement of the NIRS signals when the noise was eliminated.In subsequent studies,statistical analysis was used to infer the correlation between the NIRS signals and the visual stimulus.We found that there was a slight decrease of the oxygenated hemoglobin con-centration(about 5.69%)over four frequencies when the modulation increased.However,the variations of oxy and deoxy-hemoglobin were not statistically significant. | Nguyen Duc Thang Vo Van Toi Le Giang Tran Nguyen Huynh Minh Tam Lan Anh Trinh | 2014 | Journal of Innovative Optical Health Sciences2014,7,6: | 0 |
| 13 | Prevalence, risk factors, and BRAF mutation of colorectal sessile serrated lesions among Vietnamese patients显示文摘BACKGROUND Sessile serrated lesions(SSLs)are considered precancerous colorectal lesions that should be detected and removed to prevent colorectal cancer.Previous studies in Vietnam mainly investigated the adenoma pathway,with limited data on the serrated pathway.AIM To evaluate the prevalence,risk factors,and BRAF mutations of SSLs in the Vietnamese population.METHODS This is a cross-sectional study conducted on patients with lower gastrointestinal symptoms who underwent colonoscopy at a tertiary hospital in Vietnam.SSLs were diagnosed on histopathology according to the 2019 World Health Organi-zation classification.BRAF mutation analysis was performed using the Sanger DNA sequencing method.The multivariate logistic regression model was used to determine SSL-associated factors.RESULTS There were 2489 patients,with a mean age of 52.1±13.1 and a female-to-male ratio of 1:1.1.The prevalence of SSLs was 4.2%[95%confidence interval(CI):3.5-5.1].In the multivariate analysis,factors significantly associated with SSLs were age≥40[odds ratio(OR):3.303;95%CI:1.607-6.790],male sex(OR:2.032;95%CI:1.204-3.429),diabetes mellitus(OR:2.721;95%CI:1.551-4.772),and hypertension(OR:1.650,95%CI:1.045-2.605).The rate of BRAF mutations in SSLs was 35.5%.CONCLUSION The prevalence of SSLs was 4.2%.BRAF mutations were present in one-third of SSLs.Significant risk factors for SSLs included age≥40,male sex,diabetes mellitus,and hypertension. | Nhu Thi Hanh Vu Huy Minh Le Diem Thi-Ngoc Vo Hoang Anh Vu Nhan Quang Le Dung Dang Quy Ho Duc Trong Quach | 2024 | World Journal of Clinical Oncology2024,15,2: | 0 |

| 15 | A study implementing real-time PCR to identify Strongyloides species of third-stage larvae in human stool samples from Southern Vietnam显示文摘Background:Strongyloidiasis,a neglected disease caused by intestinal nematodes of the genus,is endemic to tropical and subtropical areas such as Vietnam.Morphological methods only identify the genus,while DNA-molecular techniques are susceptible in Strongyloides spp.detection.The study aims to determine the prevalence of dominant Strongyloides species among the population in Duc Hoa district,Long An,Vietnam.Methods:A cross-sectional study used 1190 stool specimens collected from July 2017 to November 2018.All samples were transported within 2 h,stored at 2-8℃,and processed within 48 h for microscopy smear and culture at the Laboratory of Medical Parasitology,Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine(PNT).Then all positive samples with the above 2 methods were verified by real-time PCR technique.Real-time PCR amplification was conducted at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology,PNT.Results:Direct microscopy and modified Harada-Mori culture detected Strongyloides spp.larvae in 79/1190 sam-ples(6.6%).About 94.2%of the DNA samples were Strongyloides stercoralis,2.9%were co-infections with Strongy-loides ratti and S.stercoralis,and 2.9%were patients with S.ratti.The identity of 12/14 sequences was confirmed as S.stercoralis with a high level of similarity(91.3%-100%)and over 98%for S.ratti.Conclusion:DNA-molecular techniques and sequence analysis are highly suitable for identifying Strongyloides species isolated from stool samples.It is remarkable evidence of the presence of zoonosis S.ratti disease in human,not just the known S.stercoralis.It is likely to result in a certain proportion of people being infected by this animal-borne infectious pathogen. | Le Duc Vinh Nguyen Kim Thach Huynh Hong Quang Do Nhu Binh Tran Thi Duc Hanh Nguyen Minh Toàn Nguyen Trung Tuyen Nguyen Thu Huong | 2023 | Infectious Medicine2023,2,3: | 0 |
