| 1 | LMM5.1 and LMM5.4,two eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1Alike gene family members,negatively affect cell death and disease resistance in rice显示文摘Lesion mimic mutant(LMM) genes, stimulating lesion formation in the absence of pathogens, play significant roles in immune response. In this study, we characterized a rice lesion mimic mutant, lmm5,which displayed light-dependent spontaneous lesions. Additionally, lmm5 plants exhibited enhanced resistance to all of the tested races of Magnaporthe oryzae and Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae(Xoo) by increasing the expression of defense-related genes and the accumulation of hydrogen peroxide. Genetic analysis showed that the lesion mimic phenotype of lmm5 was controlled by two genes, lmm5.1 and lmm5.4, which were isolated with a map-based cloning strategy. Remarkably, LMM5.1 and LMM5.4 share a 97.4% amino acid sequence identity, and they each encode a eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1A(e EF1A)-like protein. Besides, LMM5.1 and LMM5.4 were expressed in a tissue-specific and an indicaspecific manner, respectively. In addition, high-throughput m RNA sequencing analysis confirmed that the basal immunity was constitutively activated in the lmm5 mutant. | 3 | Synergistic Action of Clonorchiasis,HBV Infection and Alcohol Consumption on Primary Hepatocellular Carcinoma显示文摘OBJECTIVE It has been recognized that HBV infection andalcohol consumption are two important risk factors for primaryhepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Recently, the role of clonorchiasisas a risk factor for HCC is controversial. We aimed to investigatewhether these factors increase the risk of HCC in Guangxi, China.METHODS A hospital-based, case-control study of HCCwas conducted from July 2005 to July 2007. We enrolled 500consecutive patients with HCC as an experimental group and 500patients without tumor in liver as a control group. The risk factorsthat the patients were exposed to were assessed.RESULTS Comparing the risks of developing the HCC, wefound out the following results. The risk of developing HCC forthe patients with clonorchiasis was 5 folds of that for the patientswithout clonorchiasis (OR = 5.0; 95% CI: 3.1-8.1), and the risk forthe patients with alcohol consumption was 3 folds of that for thepatients without drinking alcohol (OR = 3.4; 95% CI: 2.3-4.9), andsimilarly, the risk for the patients with HBV infection was 21 timesof that for the patients without HBV infection (OR = 20.6; 95% CI:14.3-29.7). According to crossover analysis, there was significantinteraction among clonorchiasis, HBV infection and alcoholconsumption, with synergistic indices greater than 1. The etiologicfractions attributed to these interactions [EF (A x B)] are 0.7465,0.5789 and 0.5506, respectively.CONCLUSION Clonorchiasis, HBV infection and heavy alcoholconsumption are independent risk factors for developing HCC inour population in Guangxi, and as they can interact synergistically,the risk of developing HCC is increased. | 17 | Comparison between varietal purity and zymogram purity in maize显示文摘The zymogram purity of 5 inbred lines,7 single cross hybrids and 7 single cross hybrids mixed with their parental lines was examined by a vertical discontinous polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Results indicate that the maize hybrid impurity is mainly composed of three parts:mixed with the seeds from parents or other source, contaminated with the seeds resulting from unknown pollination and variable in genetic background. It was found that the varietal purity is higher than the zymogram purity and they showed a linear relationship. The regression coefficient (r) between varietal purity and zymogram purity is 0.898 2. There is an average of 3.5% variable in the field. However,using a known rate of the mixed seeds, their regression coefficient is 0.999 9. It was also found that the examinational mix rate is 0.33% higher than the known mix rate. The seedling rate of the single cross hybrids is 85.71%,but that of hybrids mixed with their parental lines is only 77%.
