Deep water bottom current deposition in the northern South China Sea显示文摘There are some active bottom currents on the northern continental slope of the South China Sea (SCS). Reflection seismic profiles show that the bottom current channels occur in the water depth range of 1000 to 2700 m,extending from the NE to the SW,leading to accumulation of discontinuous drifts with higher sedimentation rates on the eastern side of the channel. The stacking pattern of the layers sug-gests that these drifts propagated southwestward, following the direction of the bottom currents. One sedimentary drift to the southeast of the Dongsha Islands has the highest sedimentation rate of 97cm/ka in the last 12 ka. The sedimentary characteristics of the sediment layers indicate that these bottom currents are most likley caused by the water movement of a branch of the West Pacific Ocean Current, which enters the northern SCS via the Bashi Strait. Once formed, the bottom currents trans-port sediments along the northern slope of SCS southwestward and finally disappear into the central basin of the SCS. Due to the bottom current activity, the deep-sea sedimentary process in the northern SCS is complex.SHAO Lei LI XueJie GENG JianHua PANG Xiong LEI YongChang QIAO PeiJun WANG LiaoLiang WANG HongBin 2007Science China Earth Sciences2007,50,7:43
Weathered and Volcanic Provenance-Sedimentary System and Its Influence on Reservoir Quality in the East of the Eastern Depression, the North Yellow Sea Basin显示文摘Seismic stratigraphy, core logging and the data from cores are used to identify the development and evolution of the east provenance-sedimentary system and to analyze its influence on the quality of reservoirs in the eastern depression of the North Yellow Sea Basin. The eastern provenance-sedimentary system is a fan delta(delta) and subaqueous fan sedimentary system with volcanic provenance. Its evolution is closely related to internal uplift and coeval volcanic activity. During faulting and volcanic activity, an internal uplift gradually formed and the eastern provenance-sedimentary system began to develop. Clastic materials from the weathered uplift and volcanic activity were the main sources of sediment and were deposited in the Middle Jurassic to the Early Cretaceous. A subaqueous fan sedimentary system developed in the Middle Jurassic, a deltaic to subaqueous fan sedimentary system developed in the Late Jurassic, and a fan delta to subaqueous fan sedimentary system developed in the Early Cretaceous. The volcaniclastic detritus was mainly composed of acidic materials with a small amount of intermediate materials. The reservoir in the eastern sedimentary system is a type of tight sandstone with ultra-low porosity and very low permeability due to the influence of volcanism and diagenesis. The reservoir quality is worse than those of the northern and the western sedimentary systems. However, the high volume of volcanic materials and deep-marine sedimentary conditions resulted in good-quality hydrocarbon source rocks that ensures the exploration potential in the eastern sedimentary system reservoir.Dan Gao Rihui Cheng Yanjie Shen Liaoliang Wang Xiaoqiang Hu 2018Journal of Earth Science2018,29,2:6
Morphology, sedimentary characteristics, and origin of the Dongsha submarine canyon in the northeastern continental slope of the South China Sea显示文摘The Dongsha submarine canyon is a large canyon belonging to a group of canyons on the northeastern South China Sea margin. Investigation of the Dongsha canyon is important for understanding the origin of this canyon group as well as the transport mechanism of sediments on the margin, and the evolution of the Taixinan foreland basin and the associated Taiwan orogenic belt. In this study, the morphology, sedimentary characteristics, and origin of the Dongsha canyon were investigated by integrating high-resolution multi-channel seismic reflection profiles and high-precision multibeam bathymetric data. This is a slope-confined canyon that originates in the upper slope east of the Dongsha Islands, extends downslope in the SEE direction, and finally merges with the South Taiwan Shoal canyon at a water depth of 3000 m. The total length and average width of the canyon are around 190 and 10 km, respectively. Eleven seismic sequence boundaries within the canyon fills were identified and interpreted as incision surfaces of the canyon. In the canyon fills, four types of seismic facies were defined: parallel onlap fill, chaotic fill, mounded divergent facies, and migrated wavy facies. The parallel onlap fill facies is interpreted as alternating coarser turbidites or other gravity-flow deposits and fine hemipelagic sediments filling the canyon valley. The chaotic fill facies is presumed to be debrites and/or basal lag deposits filling the thalwegs. The mounded divergent and migrated wavy seismic facies can be explained as canyon levees consisting mainly of overspilled fine turbidites and sediment waves on the levees or on the canyon-mouth submarine fans. Age correlation between the sequence boundaries and the ODP Site 1144 data suggests that the Dongsha canyon was initiated at approximately 0.9 Ma in the middle Pleistocene. Mapping of the canyon indicates that the canyon originated at the upstream portion of the middle reach of the modern canyon, and has been continuously expanding both upstream and downstream by retrogressive erosion, incision, and deposition of turbidity currents and other gravity transport processes. The ages of the sequence boundaries representing major canyon incision events are in good agreement with those of global sea-level lowstands, indicating that sea-level changes may have played an important role in the canyon's development. The Dongsha canyon developed in a region with an active tectonic background characterized by the Taiwan uplifting and the development of the Taixinan foreland basin. However, no evidence suggests that the canyon formation is directly associated with local or regional faulting and magmatic activities. Turbidity currents and other gravity transport processes(including submarine slides and slumps) may have had an important influence on the formation and evolution of the canyon.YIN ShaoRu WANG LiaoLiang GUO YiQun ZHONG GuangFa 2015Science China Earth Sciences2015,58,6:6
Evolution of the Late Miocene atoll systems offshore Xisha Islands显示文摘Modern atolls have been studied systematically and thoroughly in the South China Sea.However, the knowledge of a paleo-atoll and related sedimentary system is very limited. Here we used the newly acquired high resolution 2D seismic data, and discovered three late Miocene atoll systems in the offshore Xisha Islands for the first time.We named them atoll system A,B,C,respectively. These three atoll systems, all developed on the horsts dominated by normal fault, consist mainly of atoll reefs, patch reefs,fore-reef slope deposits, and lagoons. On the basis of the interpreted sequence stratigraphic framework and the identification of fore-reef slope deposits,we suggested only the atoll system A continued to grow until Quaternary, and both of atoll system B and C had been drowned in Pliocene. In late Miocene, the atoll systems in the study area were most developed, either in magnitude or in maturity, which indicated late Miocene was the most flourishing period of reef builders, and this was in accordance with the drilling result of ODP Leg 184 in the South China Sea.Pliocene was an important reef drowning period in the study area, and both atoll systems B and C were drowned and hemipelagic deposits prevailed gradually.Quaternary was another reef drowning period in the study area, two large atoll reefs grown on the atoll system A were finally drowned, and hemipelagic deposits begun to drape and fill the palaeo-atoll systems. The growth and drowning of atolls are controlled mainly by tectonic subsidence in long term, but global eustatic can impact it in short term also.KUANG ZengGui GUO YiQun WANG LiaoLiang LIANG JinQiang SHA ZhiBin 2014Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,12:3

Development of the Miocene Guangle Carbonate Platform in the South China Sea:Architecture and Controlling Factors显示文摘This study investigates the evolution of the Miocene Guangle carbonate platform(or Triton Horst)of the northwestern South China Sea margin. The platform is located at a junction area surrounded by Yinggehai basin,Qiongdongnan basin and Zhongjiannan basin.Well and regional geophysical data allow the identification of the morphologic and stratigraphic patterns. The Guangle carbonate platform was initiated on a tectonic uplift during the Early Miocene. The early platform was limited at Mesozoic granitic basement,pre-Paleogene sediments localized tectonic uplift and was small extension at the beginning stage. While during the Middle Miocene, the carbonate buildup flourished, and grow a thrived and thick carbonate succession overlining the whole Guangle Uplift. The isolated platforms then united afterward and covered an extensive area of several tens of thousands of square kilometers. However,it terminated in the Late Miocene. What are the control factors on the initiation, growth and demise of the Guangle carbonate platform? The onset of widespread carbonate deposits largely reflected the Early Miocene transgression linked with early post-rift subsidence and the opening of the South China Sea.Stressed carbonate growth conditions on the Guangle carbonate platform probably resulted from increased inorganic nutrient input derived from the adjacent uplifted mainland, possibly enhanced by deteriorated climatic conditions promoting platform drowning. Therefore, tectonics and terrigenous input could be two main controlling factors on the development of the Guangle carbonate platforms and main evolution stages.YANG Zhen LI Xuelin HUANG Lei WANG Liaoliang WU Shiguo ZHANG Xinyuan 2021Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2021,95,1:1

Dynamic Response of a Coated Half-Plane with Hysteretic Damping Under a Harmonic Hertz Load显示文摘This paper investigates the dynamic response of a coated half-plane subjected to a harmonic Hertz load on the coating surface. The complex modulus is used to describe the hysteretic damping of the elastic homogeneous coating and half-plane.Using the Helmholtz decomposition and Fourier integral transform technique,we derive the stresses and displacements of the coating and half-plane from Navier5s elasticdynamic equations in the form of complex integrals. Then, the global adaptive quadrature algorithm is exploited to solve the complex integrals numerically. The effects of Young’s modulus ratio, density ratio, coating thickness, loss factor and external excitation frequency are discussed. It is found that the dynamic response of displacements and stresses becomes increasingly oscillatory with the increase in excitation frequency.Xiaomin Wang Liaoliang Ke Yuesheng Wang 2020Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica2020,33,4:1
Nonlinear vibration of edged cracked FGM beams using differential quadrature method显示文摘This paper investigated the nonlinear vibration of functionally graded beams containing an open edge crack based on Timoshenko beam theory. The cracked section is modeled by a massless elastic rotational spring. It is assumed that material properties follow exponential distributions through the beam thickness. The differential quadrature(DQ) method is employed to discretize the nonlinear governing equations which are then solved by a direct iterative method to obtain the nonlinear vibration frequencies of beams with different boundary conditions. The effects of the material gradient, crack depth and boundary conditions on nonlinear free vibration characteristics of the cracked FGM beams are studied in detail.KE LiaoLiang WANG YueSheng YANG Jie KITIPORNCHAI Sritawat ALAM Firoz 2012Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2012,55,11:0
Contact vibration analysis of the functionally graded material coated half-space under a rigid spherical punch显示文摘This paper studies the contact vibration problem of an elastic half-space coated with functionally graded materials(FGMs)subject to a rigid spherical punch.A static force superimposing a dynamic time-harmonic force acts on the rigid spherical punch.Firstly,we give the static contact problem of FGMs by a least-square fitting approach.Next, the dynamic contact pressure is solved by employing the perturbation method.Lastly, the dynamic contact stiffness with different dynamic contact displacement conditions is derived for the FGM coated half-space.The effects of the gradient index, coating thickness, internal friction, and punch radius on the dynamic contact stiffness factor are discussed in detail.Xin LYU Liaoliang KE Jiayong TIAN Jie SU 2022Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2022,43,8:0
Love wave propagation in one-dimensional piezoelectric quasicrystal multilayered nanoplates with surface effects显示文摘The exact solutions for the propagation of Love waves in one-dimensional(1D)hexagonal piezoelectric quasicrystal(PQC)nanoplates with surface effects are derived. An electro-elastic model is developed to investigate the anti-plane strain problem of Love wave propagation.By introducing three shape functions, the wave equations and electric balance equations are decoupled into three uncorrelated problems.Satisfying the boundary conditions of the top surface on the covering layer, the interlayer interface, and the matrix,a dispersive equation with the influence of multi-physical field coupling is provided.A surface PQC model is developed to investigate the surface effects on the propagation behaviors of Love waves in quasicrystal(QC)multilayered structures with nanoscale thicknesses.A novel dispersion relation for the PQC structure is derived in an explicit closed form according to the non-classical mechanical and electric boundary conditions.Numerical examples are given to reveal the effects of the boundary conditions, stacking sequence, characteristic scale, and phason fluctuation characteristics on the dispersion curves of Love waves propagating in PQC nanoplates with surface effects.Xin FENG Liaoliang KE Yang GAO 2024Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2024,45,4:0
The size-dependent elastohydrodynamic lubrication contact of a coated half-plane with non-Newtonian fluid显示文摘Based on the couple-stress theory, the elastohydrodynamic lubrication(EHL)contact is analyzed with a consideration of the size effect. The lubricant between the contact surface of a homogeneous coated half-plane and a rigid punch is supposed to be the non-Newtonian fluid. The density and viscosity of the lubricant are dependent on fluid pressure.Distributions of film thickness,in-plane stress, and fluid pressure are calculated by solving the nonlinear fluid-solid coupled equations with an iterative method. The effects of the punch radius, size parameter, coating thickness,slide/roll ratio, entraining velocity, resultant normal load, and stiffness ratio on lubricant film thickness,in-plane stress, and fluid pressure are investigated. The results demonstrate that fluid pressure and film thickness are obviously dependent on the size parameter, stiffness ratio, and coating thickness.Jie SU Hongxia SONG Liaoliang KE S.M.AIZIKOVICH 2021Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2021,42,7:0
Thermoelastic rotating contact of an FGM coating with temperature-dependent and arbitrary varying properties显示文摘This paper investigates the frictional thermoelastic contact of a rigid spherical punch and functionally graded material(FGM)coated half-space with arbitrarily varying material properties. These material parameters include the elastic modulus,Poisson’s ratio, heat conduction parameter, and thermal expansion coefficient. The material parameters of the FGM coating and half-space are assumed to be temperature dependent. The spherical punch is rotated in the FGM-coated half-space at a constant angular speed. The generated frictional heat is related to the friction coefficient, contact radius, angular velocity, and contact pressure.A theoretical formula for the thermoelastic rotating contact problem is established and solved using the finite element method. The main objective of this paper is to investigate the effects of temperature dependence, gradient index, friction coefficient, angular velocity, and gradient form on the surface temperature and stresses.ZHOU JiaLin SHEN Fei LIU Jing EL-BORGI Sami KE LiaoLiang 2023Science China(Technological Sciences)2023,66,4:0
