| 1 | Relocation of the mainshock and aftershock sequences of M_S7.0 Sichuan Lushan earthquake显示文摘The mainshock of April 20,2013 Sichuan Lushan MS7.0 earthquake was relocated using a 3-D velocity model.Double difference algorithm was applied to relocate aftershock sequences of Lushan earthquake.The locations of 2405 aftershocks were determined.The location errors in E-W,N-S and U-D direction were 0.30,0.29 and 0.59 km on average,respectively.The location of the mainshock is 102.983°E,30.291°N and the focal depth is 17.6 km.The relocation results show that the aftershocks spread approximately 35 km in length and 16 km in width.The dominant distribution of the focal depth ranges from 10 to 20 km.A few earthquakes occurred in the shallow crust.Focal depth profiles show fault planes dip to the northwest,manifested itself as a listric thrust fault.The dip angle is steep in the shallow crust and gentle in the deep crust.Although the epicenters of aftershocks distributed mainly along both sides of the Shuangshi-Dachuan fault,the seismogenic fault may be a blind thrust fault on the eastern side of the Shuangshi-Dachuan fault.Earthquake relocation results reveal that there is a southeastward tilt aftershock belt intersecting with the seismogenic fault with y-shape.We speculate it is a back thrust fault that often appears in a thrust fault system.Lushan earthquake triggered the seismic activity of the back thrust fault. | FANG LiHua WU JianPing WANG WeiLai Lü ZuoYong WANG ChangZai YANG Ting CAI Yan | 2013 | Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,28: | 74 |
| 2 | On the tuning of electrical and thermal transport in thermoelectrics: an integrated theory–experiment perspective显示文摘During the last two decades,we have witnessed great progress in research on thermoelectrics.There are two primary focuses.One is the fundamental understanding of electrical and thermal transport,enabled by the interplay of theory and experiment;the other is the substantial enhancement of the performance of various thermoelectric materials,through synergistic optimisation of those intercorrelated transport parameters.Here we review some of the successful strategies for tuning electrical and thermal transport.For electrical transport,we start from the classical but still very active strategy of tuning band degeneracy(or band convergence),then discuss the engineering of carrier scattering,and finally address the concept of conduction channels and conductive networks that emerge in complex thermoelectric materials.For thermal transport,we summarise the approaches for studying thermal transport based on phonon–phonon interactions valid for conventional solids,as well as some quantitative efforts for nanostructures.We also discuss the thermal transport in complex materials with chemical-bond hierarchy,in which a portion of the atoms(or subunits)are weakly bonded to the rest of the structure,leading to an intrinsic manifestation of part-crystalline part-liquid state at elevated temperatures.In this review,we provide a summary of achievements made in recent studies of thermoelectric transport properties,and demonstrate how they have led to improvements in thermoelectric performance by the integration of modern theory and experiment,and point out some challenges and possible directions. | Jiong Yang Lili Xi Wujie Qiu Lihua Wu Xun Shi Lidong Chen Jihui Yang Wenqing Zhang Ctirad Uher David J Singh | 2016 | npj Computational Materials2016,,1: | 24 |

| 5 | Seasonal characters of regional vegetation activity in response to climate change in West China in recent 20 years显示文摘Using NDVI data of NOAA-AVHRR in recent 20 years and the temperature and precipitation data of West China, the vegetation activity is discussed by adopting the EOF and REOF decomposed functions. Results show that the overall increasing trend of vegetation activity in different seasons reflects an advanced and prolonged growth period of vegetation under the circumstance of climate warming, but the vegetation evolvement has much inconsistency between different regions and seasons. There are four notable regions, eight sub-areas for vegetation evolvement in spring and summer, and nine sub-areas in autumn. The vegetation activity in most sub-areas is increasing. The most notable region is represented by Lhaze station on the Tibetan Plateau. Two other marked stations are represented by Altay station in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Pengshui station in Sichuan Province. But the time series analysis of NDVI makes clear that the trends of the other two sub-areas, Turpan station in Xinjiang and Huashan station in Shaanxi Province, are descending. It is an important reason for vegetation evolvement that temperature ascends in most of the regions and descends in the east region in some seasons. | 7 | Ecological-hydrological processes in arid environment: Past, present and future显示文摘Ecohydrology, aiming to study the interactions between terrestrial ecological systems and hydrological cycles as well as their impacts on water management, has been an emerging interdisciplinary research field since the 20 th century. It hosts both natural and human regulated processes that are potentially coupled in complex ways. Understanding the ecological-hydrological processes, the fundamental mechanisms and the connections between them is critical since these processes are not isolated but integrated to impact basin-scale hydrological and biogeochemical functioning of a larger river system, especially in arid environment where water resources are considered to be the source of life. Thus, research on ecological-hydrological processes in arid environment is not only a scientific focus area but also important to sustainable development. Research projects and initiatives involved in observation, measurement, modeling and data assimilation have been well-developed for those purposes over the past 20 years. This review summarizes the historical development of ecohydrology science in China and the state-of-the-art tools available in the research framework. Five grand scientific challenges are listed as prospects and exciting opportunities for the scientific community. | 9 | Effect of allogeneic umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell transplantation in a rat model of hepatic cirrhosis显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To determine the effects of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell(UCMSC) transplantation, alone or in combination with tanshinone IIA(Tan IIA) on hepatic cirrhosis in rats.METHODS: A rat model of cirrhosis was established. Rats were divided into control, UCMSC, and UCSMC plus Tan IIA groups. Rats in the UCMSC group were injected via the tail vein with 0.2 m L Di I-labeled UCMSC suspension. Intraperitoneal Tan IIA injections(20 mg/kg) were started on the day ofUCMSC transplantation in the UCMSC plus Tan IIA group, and continued for 7 consecutive days thereafter. Rats were sacrificed 1 day, 3 days, 1 month,and 3 months after transplantation and the numbers of Di I-labeled UCMSCs colonizing the liver were determined. Albumin(ALB) and alanine aminotransferase(ALT) levels were measured in venous blood, and m RNA and protein expression levels of human ALB and cytokeratin(CK)-18 in liver tissues were determined by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and western blotting, respectively.RESULTS: Serum ALT levels were significantly lower and serum ALB levels significantly higher in rats in the UCMSC group compared with the control group(P < 0.05). Hepatic CK-18 and ALB m RNA and protein expression levels increased after transplantation, and were significantly higher in the UCMSC plus Tan IIA group compared with the UCMSC group(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: Human UCMSCs transplanted into rats with liver cirrhosis can grow and differentiate into hepatocyte-like cells resulting in improved liver function in vivo. | 11 | Spatio-temporal variation of net anthropogenic nitrogen inputs in the upper Yangtze River basin from 1990 to 2012显示文摘The net anthropogenic nitrogen input(NANI) is an important nutrient source that causes eutrophication in water bodies. Understanding the spatio-temporal variation of NANI is important for regional environment assessment and management.This paper calculated NANI in the upper Yangtze River basin(YRB), upstream of the Three Gorges Dam(TGD), from1990 to 2012, and analyzed its spatio-temporal characteristics. Over the past 23 years of the study, the average annual NANI increased from 3200 kg N km^(-2) to 4931 kg N km^(-2). The major components were fertilizer N application, atmospheric N deposition,and net food and feed N import. In the northwest high mountainous region with a sparse population, the main component was atmospheric N deposition. Fertilizer N application and net food and feed N import were concentrated in the Chengdu Plain because of the high population density and large areas of farmland. This research found that NANI increased with rapid urbanization and increasing population. The Pearson correlation results illustrated that the spatial distributions of NANI and its major components were affected by land cover/use, agricultural GDP and total population. | 13 | Characteristics of fecal microbiota in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease patients显示文摘This study was designed to investigate the gut microbiota of patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. The inclusive and exclusive criteria for NAFLD patients and healthy subjects were formulated, and detailed clinical data were collected. The genomic DNA of stool samples were extracted for 16 S r DNA sequencing, and the amplified V4-region was sequenced on the Illumina Miseq platform. Metastats analysis was performed to identify the differential taxa between the groups. Redundancy analysis was used to evaluate the association between gut microbial structure and clinical variables. Thirty NAFLD patients and37 healthy controls were involved. The 16 S r DNA sequencing showed that there was a dramatic variability of the fecal microbiota among all the individuals. Metastats analysis identified eight families and 12 genera with significant differences between the two groups. When some clinical parameters, such as waist-to-hip ratio(WHR) and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR), were enrolled in Redundancy analysis, the distribution of the two group of samples was obviously changed. The compositional shifts in fecal bacterial communities of NAFLD patients from the healthy controls were mainly at family or genus levels. | 14 | Efficient elimination of multidrug-resistant bacteria using copper sulfide nanozymes anchored to graphene oxide nanosheets显示文摘Antibacterial nanomaterials have attracted growing interest for bacterial infection therapy.However,most nanomaterials eliminate bacteria either physically or chemically,which hampers their efficacy when dealing with multidrug-resistant bacteria.To overcome this,we integrated copper sulfide(CuS)nanoparticles with active graphene oxide nanosheets(GO NSs)to synthesize a superior nanocomposite(CuS/GO NC)that acts both physically and chemically on the bacteria.CuS/GO NC was produced using a facile hydrothermal method,whereby the CuS nanoparticles grew and were uniformly dispersed on the GO NSs in situ.We found that the CuS/GO NC possesses a unique needle-like morphology that physically damages the bacterial cell membrane.CuS/GO NC also exhibits high oxidase-and peroxidase-like activity,ensuring efficient generation of the reactive oxygen species•OH from H2O2,which kills bacteria chemically.These features endow the CuS/GO NC with excellent antibacterial capabilities to kill multidrug-resistant bacteria such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA)with only a single dose.Additionally,it was found that the CuS/GO NC accelerated the healing of infected wounds in vivo owing to its good biocompatibility as well as facilitation of cell migration and collagen secretion.This study provides a new strategy to combine the physical and chemical antibacterial modes of nanomaterials to develop more effective therapies to combat multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. | Wanshun Wang Binglin Li Huili Yang Zefeng Lin Lingling Chen Zhan Li Jiayuan Ge Tao Zhang Hong Xia Lihua Li Yao Lu | 2020 | Nano Research2020,13,8: | 8 |

It is shown that an analytic signal is made up of two parts, one depending on the amplitude of the signal and another on the boundary value of an inner function. Based on this result, properties of the instantaneous frequencies of these two parts are studied, and it is found that negative instantaneous frequencies are caused by the amplitude of a signal. | 19 | Promoting Bone Mesenchymal Stem Cells and Inhibiting Bacterial Adhesion of Acid-Etched Nanostructured Titanium by Ultraviolet Functionalization显示文摘Titanium(Ti) and its alloys are used extensively in orthopedic implants because of their excellent biocompatibility,mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. However,titanium-based implant materials face many severe complications,such as implant loosening due to poor osseointegration and bacterial infections,which may lead to implant failure. Hence,preparing a biomaterial surface,which enhances the interactions with host cells and inhibits bacterial adhesion,may be an optimal strategy to reduce the incidence of implant failure. This study aims to improve osseointegration and confer antibacterial properties on Ti through a combination of two surface modifications including nanostructuring generated by acid etching and ultraviolet(UV) light treatment.Our results showed that without UV treatment,the acid etching treatment of Ti surface was effective at both improving the adhesion of bone mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs) and increasing bacterial adhesion. A further UV treatment of the acid-etched surface however,not only significantly improved the cell adhesion but also inhibited bacterial adhesion. The acid-etched nanostructured titanium with UV treatment also showed a significant enhancement on cell proliferation,alkaline phosphatase(ALP) activity and mineralization. | 20 | Multi-functional bismuth-doped bioglasses: combining bioactivity and photothermal response for bone tumor treatment and tissue repair显示文摘Treatment of large bone defects derived from bone tumor surgery is typically performed in multiple separate operations,such as hyperthermia to extinguish residual malignant cells or implanting bioactive materials to initiate apatite remineralization for tissue repair;it is very challenging to combine these functions into a material.Herein,we report the first photothermal(PT)effect in bismuth(Bi)-doped glasses.On the basis of this discovery,we have developed a new type of Bi-doped bioactive glass that integrates both functions,thus reducing the number of treatment cycles.We demonstrate that Bi-doped bioglasses(BGs)provide high PT efficiency,potentially facilitating photoinduced hyperthermia and bioactivity to allow bone tissue remineralization.The PT effect of Bi-doped BGs can be effectively controlled by managing radiative and non-radiative processes of the active Bi species by quenching photoluminescence(PL)or depolymerizing glass networks.In vitro studies demonstrate that such glasses are biocompatible to tumor and normal cells and that they can promote osteogenic cell proliferation,differentiation,and mineralization.Upon illumination with near-infrared(NIR)light,the bioglass(BG)can efficiently kill bone tumor cells,as demonstrated via in vitro and in vivo experiments.This indicates excellent potential for the integration of multiple functions within the new materials,which will aid in the development and application of novel biomaterials. | Liping Wang Nicholas J.Long Lihua Li Yao Lu Mei Li Jiangkun Cao Yu Zhang Qinyuan Zhang Shanhui Xu Zhongmin Yang Chuanbin Mao Mingying Peng | 2018 | Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1: | 6 |
