It is common in children and adolescents, accounting for 1% to 2% of emergency department visits.Recurrent syncope can seriously affect children's physical and mental health, learning ability and quality of life and sometimes cardiac syncope even poses a risk of sudden death. The present guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of syncope in children and adolescents was developed for guiding a better clinical management of pediatric syncope. Based on the globally recent development and the evidence-based data in China, 2018 Chinese Pediatric Cardiology Society(CPCS) guideline for diagnosis and treatment of syncope in children and adolescents was jointly prepared by the Pediatric Cardiology Society, Chinese Pediatric Society, Chinese Medical Association(CMA)/Committee on Pediatric Syncope, Pediatricians Branch, Chinese Medical Doctor Association(CMDA)/Committee on Pediatric Cardiology, Chinese College of Cardiovascular Physicians, Chinese Medical Doctor Association(CMDA)/Pediatric Cardiology Society, Beijing Pediatric Society, Beijing Medical Association(BMA). | 3 | Incidence trend of nasopharyngeal carcinoma from 1987 to 2011 in Sihui County,Guangdong Province,South China:an age-period-cohort analysis显示文摘Introduction:In the past several decades,declining incidences of nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) have been observed in Chinese populations in Hong Kong,Taiwan,Los Angeles,and Singapore.A previous study indicated that the incidence of NPC in Sihui County,South China remained stable until 2002,but whether age,diagnosis period,and birth cohort affect the incidence of NPC remains unknown.Methods:Age-standardized rates(ASRs) of NPC incidence based on the world standard population were examined in both males and females in Sihui County from 1987 to 2011.Joinpoint regression analysis was conducted to quantify the changes in incidence trends.A Poisson regression age-period-cohort model was used to assess the effects of age,diagnosis period,and birth cohort on the risk of NPC.Results:The ASRs of NPC incidence during the study period were 30.29/100,000 for males and 13.09/100,000 for females.The incidence of NPC remained stable at a non-significant average annual percent change of 0.2%for males and-1.6%for females throughout the entire period.A significantly increased estimated annual percent change of 6.8%(95%confidence interval,0.1%-14.0%) was observed from 2003 to 2009 for males.The relative risk of NPC increased with advancing age up to 50-59 and decreased at ages >60 years.The period effect curves on NPC were nearly flat for males and females.The birth cohort effect curve for males showed an increase from the1922 cohort to the 1957 cohort and a decrease thereafter.In females,there was an undulating increase in the relative risk from the 1922 cohort to the 1972 cohort.Conclusions:The incidence trends for NPC remained generally stable in Sihui from 1987 to 2011,with an increase from 2003 to 2009.The relative risks of NPC increased in younger females. | Li-Fang Zhang Yan-Hua Li Shang-Hang Xie Wei Ling Sui-Hong Chen Qing Liu Qi-Hong Huang Su-Mei Cao | 2015 | Chinese Journal of Cancer2015,34,8: | 47 |
| 4 | Research progress on reduced lodging of high-yield and-density maize显示文摘Increasing plant density is an effective way to enhance maize yield, but often increases lodging rate and severity, significantly elevating the risk and cost of maize production. Therefore, lodging is a major factor restricting future increases in maize yield through high-density planting. This paper reviewed previous research on the relationships between maize lodging rate and plant morphology, mechanical strength of stalks, anatomical and biochemical characteristics of stalks, root characteristics, damage from pests and diseases, environmental factors, and genomic characteristics. The effects of planting density on these factors and explored possible ways to improve lodging resistance were also analyzed in this paper. | 8 | Urinary trypsin inhibitor attenuates hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury by reducing nuclear factor-kappa B activation显示文摘BACKGROUND:Urinary trypsin inhibitor(UTI)inhibits the inflammatory response and protects against ischemia- reperfusion(I/R)injury.The inflammatory response is mediated by nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-κB)and its related target genes and products such as vascular endothelial cell adhesion molecule and CXC chemokines.We aimed to assess the roles of those mediators in a UTI-treated mouse model of hepatic I/R injury. METHODS:Treatment group 1(UTI given 5 minutes prior to liver ischemia),treatment group 2(UTI given 5 minutes after the anhepatic phase)and a control group were investigated.Blood and liver samples were obtained and compared at 1,3,6 and 24 hours after reperfusion. RESULTS:Attenuation of pathological hepatocellular damage was greater in the treatment groups than in the control group(P<0.05).Compared with the control group, the UTI treatment groups showed significantly lower serum alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase levels,decreased myeloperoxidase activity,and reduced NF- κB activation.Also downregulated was the expression of tumor necrosis factor-alpha,cytokine-induced neutrophil chemoattractant,and macrophage inflammatory protein-2 at the mRNA level.P-selectin protein and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 protein expression were also downregulated.In addition,the treatment group 1 showed a better protective effect against I/R injury than the treatment group 2.CONCLUSIONS:UTI reduces NF-κB activation and downregulates the expression of its related mediators, followed by the inhibition of neutrophil aggregation and infiltration in hepatic I/R injury.The protective role of UTI is more effective in prevention than in treatment. | Wu, Yi-Jun Ling, Qi Zhou, Xin-Hui Wang, Yan Xie, Hai-Yang Yu, Ji-Ren Zheng, Shu-Sen | 2009 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2009,8,1: | 28 |
| 9 | Selection of Parents for Breeding Edible Varieties of Sweetpotato with High Carotene Content显示文摘Sweetpotato varieties with high carotene content have high value for human health. This work aims to improve the breeding efficiency of special varieties with high carotene content by combining molecular markers and agronomic traits to evaluate and screen the parents. The cluster analysis was carried out to identify and screen promising parents by utilizing phenotypic results of the agronomic and characteristic traits, and RAPD and ISSR markers of 15 parents and their offspring by group crossing. Among different parental materials, greater variations were observed in two important traits, the carotene content and the storage root yield. Negative correlation was found between the carotene content and both fresh and dried root yields. The most significant positive correlation was between the carotene content of parents and that of their offspring, with the coefficient of correlation value of 0.7932**. The relationship based on the agronomic characters of the trial materials was not in agreement with the known genealogy, while that based on the molecular marker data showed better result. Each primer amplified 13.8 bands of ISSR markers on average, in which the rate of polymorphic loci was 89.6%. 9.4 bands of RAPD markers were amplified per primer, in which the rate of polymorphic bands was 74.46%. Large genetic variation of carotene content was found among the parents. For analyzing the genetic diversity of sweetpotato, the molecular marker methods were better than morphological traits; ISSR markers were more efficient than RAPD markers. | 12 | Zircon U-Pb dating on the Mesozoic volcanic suite from the Qingshan Group stratotype section in eastern Shandong Province and its tectonic significance显示文摘A geochronological study of zircon U-Pb on the volcanic rocks from the stratotype section of the Qingshan Group within the Jiaozhou Basin, eastern Shandong Province, is presented. The zircons were analyzed using the method of in situ ablation of a 193 nm excimer laser system coupled with an up to date ICP-MS system. Among the three formations of the Qingshan Group, zircons recovered from the lowest part of the Houkuang Fm. were dated at 106±2 Ma (95% confidence, the same below), whereas those from the lower and upper parts of the Shiqianzhuang Fm. were given ages of 105±4 Ma and 98±1 Ma, respectively. A spatially decreasing trend for the Mesozoic magmatic timing from west to east in the province is observed through comparing the data of this study with those by previous works on the Qingshan volcanic lavas occurring at western Shandong and within the Yishu fault zone. The Qingshan volcanic rocks are constituent of the 'Shoshonite Province' in East China. Exposed at most provinces of central East China along the Tan-Lu fault and the Yangtze fault zones, these volcanic suites are characterized by shoshonite and high-K calcalkalic rocks in lithology and thought to be correlated with the partial melting of continental mantle in genesis. It is also shown that the Qingshan potassic volcanic suite from eastern Shandong basins is distinctly younger than those from other ar-eas of the shoshonite province. By contrary, ages of the Mesozoic to Cenozoic alkaline basalts, sourced by asthenospheric mantle, from both northern Huaiyan basin and northern Dabie belt along the Tan-Lu fault zone and from the Ningwu, Lishui and Luzong basins along the Yangtze fault zone are observably older than those occurring within eastern Shandong. | 13 | Daclatasvir plus asunaprevir in treatment-na?ve patients with hepatitis C virus genotype 1b infection显示文摘AIM To assess daclatasvir plus asunaprevir(d UAL) in treatment-na?ve patients from China's Mainland, Russia and South Korea with hepatitis C virus(HCV) genotype 1 b infection. METHODS Patients were randomly assigned(3:1) to receive 24 wk of treatment with d UAL(daclatasvir 60 mg once daily and asunaprevir 100 mg twice daily) beginning on day 1 of the treatment period(immediate treatment arm) or following 12 wk of matching placebo(placebodeferred treatment arm). The primary endpoint was a comparison of sustained virologic response at posttreatment week 12(SVR12) compared with the historical SVR rate for peg-interferon plus ribavirin(70%) among patients in the immediate treatment arm. The first 12 wk of the study were blinded. Safety was assessed in d UAL-treated patients compared with placebo patients during the first 12 wk(doubleblind phase), and during 24 wk of d UAL in both arms combined.RESULTS In total, 207 patients were randomly assigned to immediate(n = 155) or placebo-deferred(n = 52) treatment. Most patients were Asian(86%), female(59%) and aged < 65 years(90%). Among them, 13% had cirrhosis, 32% had IL28 B non-CC genotypes and 53% had baseline HCV RNA levels of ≥ 6 million IU/m L. Among patients in the immediate treatment arm, SVR12 was achieved by 92%(95% confidence interval: 87.2-96.0), which was significantly higher than the historical comparator rate(70%). SVR12 was largely unaffected by cirrhosis(89%), age ≥ 65 years(92%), male sex(90%), baseline HCV RNA ≥ 6 million(89%) or IL28 B non-CC genotypes(96%), although SVR12 was higher among patients without(96%) than among those with(53%) baseline NS5 A resistanceassociated polymorphisms(at L31 or Y93 H). during the double-blind phase, aminotransferase elevations were more common among placebo recipients than among patients receiving d UAL. during 24 wk of d UAL therapy(combined arms), the most common adverse events(≥ 10%) were elevated alanine aminotransferase and upper respiratory tract infection; emergent grade 3-4 laboratory abnormalities were infrequently observed, and all grade 3-4 aminotransferase abnormalities(alanine aminotransferase, n = 9; aspartate transaminase, n = 6) reversed within 8-11 d. Two patients discontinued d UAL treatment; one due to aminotransferase elevations, nausea, and jaundice and the other due to a fatal adverse event unrelated to treatment. | 14 | H_2S Protecting against Lung Injury following Limb Ischemia-reperfusion by Alleviating Inflammation and Water Transport Abnormality in Rats显示文摘Objective To investigate the effect of H2 S on lower limb ischemia-reperfusion(LIR) induced lung injury and explore the underlying mechanism. Methods Wistar rats were randomly divided into control group, IR group, IR+ Sodium Hydrosulphide(NaHS) group and IR+ DL-propargylglycine(PPG) group. IR group as lung injury model induced by LIR were given 4 h reperfusion following 4 h ischemia of bilateral hindlimbs with rubber bands. NaHS(0.78 mg/kg) as exogenous H2 S donor and PPG(60 mg/kg) which can suppress endogenous H2 S production were administrated before LIR, respectively. The lungs were removed for histologic analysis, the determination of wet-to-dry weight ratios and the measurement of mRNA and protein levels of aquaporin-1(AQP1), aquaporin-5(AQP5) as indexes of water transport abnormality, and mRNA and protein levels of Toll-like receptor 4(TLR4), myeloid differentiation primary-response gene 88(MyD88) and p-NF-κB as indexes of inflammation. Results LIR induced lung injury was accompanied with upregulation of TLR4-Myd88-NF-κB pathway and downregulation of AQP1/AQP5. NaHS pre-treatment reduced lung injury with increasing AQP1/AQP5 expression and inhibition of TLR4-Myd88-NF-κB pathway, but PPG adjusted AQP1/AQP5 and TLR4 pathway to the opposite side and exacerbated lung injury. Conclusion Endogenous H2 S, TLR4-Myd88-NF-κB pathway and AQP1/AQP5 were involved in LIR induced lung injury. | 16 | Association between Serum Homocysteine and Oxidative Stress in Elderly Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea/hypopnea Syndrome显示文摘Objective Elderly patients with obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS)has a higher risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease.However,changes of homocysteine(Hcy)as markers of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease associated with OSAHS and their mechanism have not been elucidated so far.This study aims to investigate the changes of both serum Hcy and oxidative stress and their possible links with OSAHS in elderly patients.Methods Based on polysomnogram(PSG)and age,83 patients with OSAHS were recruited and divided into elderly-OSAHS(n=32)and non-elderly OSAHS groups(n=51).Fifty two subjects without OSAHS were divided into elderly control(n=29)and non-elderly control groups(n=23).A total of 135 subjects were included in the present study.All subjects were recorded for PSG variables and the contents of homocysteine(Hcy),malonaldehyde(MDA),and glutathione(GSH)which were detected after sleep.Serum homocysteine was measured by cyclophorase.MDA and GSH were measured by spectrophotometer.Results(1)The serum levels of Hcy showed significant difference among the four groups(P<0.05).The concentrations of Hcy in elderly OSAHS patients were higher than in other groups,while those in the elderly control group were higher than in the non-elderly control the concentrations in the non-elderly OSAHS group were higher than in the non-elderly control.(2)The concentrations of MDA and GSH changed at an equal pace with Hcy in the four groups.(3)Multielement linearity regression analysis indicated a statistically significant relationship between Hcy concentration and age,MDA,GSH,and apnea hypopnea index(AHI).Conclusions(1)The concentrations of Hcy and oxidative stress have increased with advancing age.(2)The concentrations of Hcy and oxidative stress have further increased in the elderly patients with OSAHS.(3)Oxidative stress might cause high-level serum Hcy in the elderly patients with OSAHS. | LING WANG,JIE LI 2,YAN XIE,AND XUE-GUANG ZHANG Laboratory of Clinical Immunology,the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University,Suzhou 215006,Jiangsu,China | 2010 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2010,23,1: | 15 |
| 17 | Wind tunnel test on the effect of metal net fences on sand flux in a Gobi Desert, China显示文摘The Lanzhou-Xinjiang High-speed Railway runs through an expansive windy area in a Gobi Desert, and sand-blocking fences were built to protect the railway from destruction by wind-blown sand. However, the shielding effect of the sand-blocking fence is below the expectation. In this study, effects of metal net fences with porosities of 0.5 and 0.7 were tested in a wind tunnel to determine the effectiveness of the employed two kinds of fences in reducing wind velocity and restraining wind-blown sand. Specifically, the horizontal wind velocities and sediment flux densities above the gravel surface were measured under different free-stream wind velocities for the following conditions: no fence at all, single fence with a porosity of 0.5, single fence with a porosity of 0.7, double fences with a porosity of 0.5, and double fences with a porosity of 0.7. Experimental results showed that the horizontal wind velocity was more significantly decreased by the fence with a porosity of 0.5, especially for the double fences. The horizontal wind velocity decreased approximately 65% at a distance of 3.25 m(i.e., 13 H, where H denotes the fence height) downwind the double fences, and no reverse flow or vortex was observed on the leeward side. The sediment flux density decreased exponentially with height above the gravel surface downwind in all tested fences. The reduction percentage of total sediment flux density was higher for the fence with a porosity of 0.5 than for the fence with a porosity of 0.7, especially for the double fences. Furthermore, the decreasing percentage of total sediment flux density decreased with increasing free-stream wind velocity. | 18 | Developmental Genetics Analysis for Plant Height in indica Hybrid Rice Across Environments显示文摘The developmental genetics of plant height was analyzed from two groups of three-line indica hybrid rice at two environmental conditions based on the NCII design,using the additive-dominant developmental genetics models and the statistic methods.The results showed that the rice genotypes and environmental conditions could both affect plant height,and the effects of environment on plant height decreased gradually with plant development.Additive and dominant effects both governed the performance of plant height at all developmental stages.However,the degrees of effect varied among the rice genotypes.Moreover,the interaction between environments and genotypes also affected plant height.The genetic effects differed at most developmental stages.Furthermore,the expression of additive effect was more active than that of dominant effect.Conditional interaction effects with environment also influenced plant height during genetic development,especially at the early stage.Mid-parent heterosis(HMP) increased gradually with the developmental stage of plant height,and maximized at the latest stage,whereas the heterosis over the better parent(HBP) showed small differences among the genotypes,and kept stable at the later stage,with positive numeric value.At most developmental stages,conditional HMP was positively significant,while conditional HBP was negatively significant.All above results suggest that HMP and HBP have some new expressions in all developmental periods and the levels and directions are quite different. | PENG Tao ZHONG Bing-qiang LING Ying-hua YANG Zheng-lin ZHA Ren-ming XIE Rong LIU Cheng-yuan HE Guang-hua | 2009 | Rice science2009,16,2: | 14 |
| 19 | Predictive value of tumor markers in patients with recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma in different vascular invasion pattern显示文摘BACKGROUND: Four tumor markers for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC), alpha-fetoprotein(AFP), glypican-3(GPC3), vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and des-gammacarboxy prothrombin(DCP), are closely associated with tumor invasion and patient's survival. This study estimated the predictability of preoperative tumor marker levels along with pathological parameters on HCC recurrence after hepatectomy.METHODS: A total of 140 patients with HCC who underwent hepatectomy between January 2012 and August 2012 were enrolled. The demographics, clinical and follow-up data were collected and analyzed. The patients were divided into two groups: patients with macroscopic vascular invasion(Ma VI +) and those without Ma VI(Ma VI-). The predictive value of tumor markers and clinical parameters were evaluated by univariate and multivariate analysis.RESULTS: In all patients, tumor size(>8 cm) and Ma VI were closely related to HCC recurrence after hepatectomy. For Ma VI+ patients, VEGF(>900 pg/m L) was a significant predictor for recurrence(RR=2.421; 95% CI: 1.272-4.606; P=0.007). The 1- and 2-year tumor-free survival rates for Ma VI+ patients with VEGF ≤900 pg/m L versus for those with VEGF >900 pg/m L were 51.5% and 17.6% versus 19.0% and 4.8%(P<0.001). For Ma VI- patients, DCP >445 m Au/m L and tumor size >8 cm were two independent risk factors for tumor recurrence(RR=2.307, 95% CI: 1.132-4.703, P=0.021; RR=3.150, 95% CI: 1.392-7.127, P=0.006; respectively). The 1- and 2-year tumor-free survival rates for the patients with DCP ≤445 m Au/m L and those with DCP >445 m Au/m L were 90.4% and 70.7% versus 73.2% and 50.5% respectively(P=0.048). The 1-and 2-year tumor-free survival rates for the patients with tumor size ≤8 cm and >8 cm were 83.2% and 62.1% versus 50.0% and 30.0%, respectively(P=0.003).CONCLUSIONS: The Ma VI+ patients with VEGF ≤900 pg/m L had a relatively high tumor-free survival than those with VEGF >900 pg/m L. | 20 | The Predictive Value of Baseline HBs Ag Level and Early Response for HBs Ag Loss in Patients with HBe Ag-positive Chronic Hepatitis B during Pegylated Interferon Alpha-2a Treatment显示文摘Objective To explore the predictive value of baseline HBsAg level and early response for HBsAg loss in patients with HBeAg-positive chronic hepatitis B during pegylated interferon alpha-2a treatment. Methods A total of 121 patients with HBeAg-positive chronic hepatitis B who achieved HBsAg loss were enrolled; all patients were treated with PEG-IFNα-2a 180 μg/week. Serum HBV DNA and serological indicators(HBsAg, anti-HBs, HBeAg, and anti-HBe) were determined before and every 3 months during treatment. Results The median treatment time for HBsAg loss was 84 weeks(7-273 weeks), and 74.38%(90 cases) of the patients needed extended treatment(> 48 weeks). The correlation between baseline HBsAg levels and the treatment time of HBsAg loss was significant(B = 14.465, t = 2.342, P = 0.021). Baseline HBsAg levels together with the decline range of HBsAg at 24 weeks significantly correlated with the treatment time of HBsAg loss(B = 29.862, t = 4.890, P = 0.000 and B = 27.993, t = 27.993, P = 0.005). Conclusion Baseline HBsAg levels and extended therapy are critical steps toward HBsAg loss.
