| 1 | Foveated glasses-free 3D display with ultrawide field of view via a large-scale 2D-metagrating complex显示文摘Glasses-free three-dimensional(3D)displays are one of the game-changing technologies that will redefine the display industry in portable electronic devices.However,because of the limited resolution in state-of-the-art display panels,current 3D displays suffer from a critical trade-off among the spatial resolution,angular resolution,and viewing angle.Inspired by the so-called spatially variant resolution imaging found in vertebrate eyes,we propose 3D display with spatially variant information density.Stereoscopic experiences with smooth motion parallax are maintained at the central view,while the viewing angle is enlarged at the periphery view.It is enabled by a large-scale 2D-metagrating complex to manipulate dot/linear/rectangular hybrid shaped views.Furthermore,a video rate full-color 3D display with an unprecedented 160°horizontal viewing angle is demonstrated.With thin and light form factors,the proposed 3D system can be integrated with off-the-shelf purchased flat panels,making it promising for applications in portable electronics. | Jianyu Hua Erkai Hua Fengbin Zhou Jiacheng Shi Chinhua Wang Huigao Duan Yueqiang Hu Wen Qiao Linsen Chen | 2021 | Light(Science & Applications)2021,10,11: | 14 |

| 4 | Design,Modeling and Experimentation of a Biomimetic Wall-climbing Robot for Multiple Surfaces显示文摘Wall-climbing robots can work on steep terrain and obtain environment information in three dimensions for human in real time,which can improve operation efficiency.However,traditional single-mode robots cannot ensure the stable attachment on complex wall surfaces.Inspired by the structure characteristics of flies and clingfishes,three bionic structures including the flexible spine wheel,the adhesive material and the adsorption system are proposed.Aiming at task requirements on multiple walls and based on the above three bionic structures,a wall-climbing robot with the composed mode of“grabbing+adhesion+adsorption”is presented v/a the law of mechanism configuration synthesis.Using static analysis,the safe attachment conditions for the robot on smooth and rough walls are that the adsorption force is 30 N or more.Based on Newton's Euler and Lagrange formulas,the dynamic equations of the robot on vertical walls are established to deduce that the maximum theoretical torque of the driving motor is 1.43 N·m at a uniform speed.Finally,the prototype of the wall-climbing robot is manufactured and tested on the vertical lime wall,coarse sandpaper wall and acrylic ceiling wall.Meanwhile,experiment results imply that the average maximum moving speed and the corresponding load are 7.19 cm·s-1 and 0.8 kg on the vertical lime wall,7.78 cm·s-1 and 0.6 kg on the coarse sandpaper wall,and 5.93 cm·s-1 and 0.2 kg on the acrylic ceiling wall respectively.These findings could provide practical reference for the robot’s application on walls. | Jinfu Liu Linsen Xu Jiajun Xu Tao Li Shouqi Chen Hong Xu Gaoxin Cheng Marco Ceccarelli | 2020 | Journal of Bionic Engineering2020,17,3: | 2 |
| 5 | Mineralogical study of surface sediments in the western Arctic Ocean and their implications for material sources显示文摘Mineralogical analysis was performed on bulk sediments of 79 surface samples using X-ray diffraction. The analytical results, combined with data on ocean currents and the regional geological background, were used to investigate the mineral sources. Mineral assemblages in sediments and their distribution in the study area indicate that the material sources are complex.(1) Feldspar is abundant in the sediments of the middle ChukchiSea near the Bering Strait, originating from sediments in the Anadyr River carried by the Anadyr Current. Sediments deposited on the western side of the ChukchiSea are rich in feldspar. Compared with other areas, sediments in this region are rich in hornblende transported from volcanic and sedimentary rocks in Siberia by the Anadyr Stream and the Siberian Coastal Current. Sediments in the eastern ChukchiSea are rich in quartz sourced from sediments of the Yukon and Kuskokwim rivers carried by the Alaska Coastal Current. Sediments in the northern ChukchiSea are rich in quartz and carbonates from the Mackenzie River sediments.(2) Sediments of the southern and central Canada Basin contain little calcite and dolomite, mainly due to the small impact of the Beaufort Gyre carrying carbonates from the Canadian Arctic Islands. Compared with other areas, the mica content in the region is high, implying that the Laptev Sea is the main sediment source for the southern and central Canada Basin. In the other deep sea areas, calcite and dolomite levels are high caused by the input of large amounts of sediment carried by the Beaufort Gyre from the Canadian Arctic Islands(Banks and Victoria). The Siberian Laptev Sea also provides small amounts of sediment for this region. | 6 | Mechanisms of rotenone-induced neurotoxicity in PC 12 cells显示文摘BACKGROUND: Rotenone-induced neurotoxicity in PC 12 cells has been widely used to study the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease. However, the precise mechanisms underlying rotenone-induced dopaminergic neuronal degeneration in Parkinson's disease remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: To establish rotenone-induced neurotoxicity in PC 12 cells, and to investigate the possible action pathways to rotenone-induced neural cell injury at the protein level. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: A controlled proteomics study was performed at the Department of Neurology, First Hospital, Jilin University between March 2006 and March 2007. MATERIALS: PC 12 cells were obtained from Shanghai Cell Bank of Chinese Academy of Sciences, China. Rotenone was provided by Sigma, USA. METHODS: PC 12 cells in logarithmic growth phase were treated under experimental and control conditions, respectively. A total of 0.5 μmol/L rotenone, or the same amount of Dulbecco’s modified eagle’s medium (DMEM), was added in the experimental and control conditions, respectively. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Following 72 hours of rotenone treatment, cellular survival rate was determined by methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium assay, and apoptotic changes were detected by Hoechst 33342 staining. Total cellular protein was extracted to acquire differential protein expression data utilizing two-dimensional differential in-gel electrophoresis. To identify differential protein spots, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS) was used. RESULTS: In the MTT assay, the experimental condition induced significantly less cell survival compared to the control condition (P < 0.01). Hoechst 33342 staining revealed a larger number of apoptotic cells under the experimental condition compared to the control condition (P < 0.01), as determined by the presence of nuclear condensation, pyknosis, and nuclear fragmentation. Two-dimensional electrophoresis results showed that the differential expression of protein spots 1069 and 1538 was increased by 144% and 124%, respectively, while that of protein spot 1094 was decreased by 123% in the experimental condition compared to the control condition (P < 0.01). By MALDI-TOF-MS analysis and database retrieval, γ-enolase, triosephosphate isomerase 1, and eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4A were confirmed to be involved in rotenone-induced neural cell injury. | 10 | Revisiting the capacity-fading mechanism of P2-type sodium layered oxide cathode materials during high-voltage cycling显示文摘P2-type sodium layered oxide cathode (Na_(2/3)Ni_(1/3)Mn_(2/3)O_(2)P2-NNMO) has attracted great attention as a promising cathode material for sodium ion batteries because of its high specific capacity. However, this material suffers from a rapid capacity fade during high-voltage cycling. Several mechanisms have been proposed to explain the capacity fade, including intragranular fracture caused by the P2-O2 phase transion, surface structural change, and irreversible lattice oxygen release. Here we systematically investigated the morphological, structural, and chemical changes of P2-NNMO during high-voltage cycling using a variety of characterization techniques. It was found that the lattice distortion and crystal-plane buckling induced by the P2-O2 phase transition slowed down the Na-ion transport in the bulk and hindered the extraction of the Na ions. The sluggish kinetics was the main reason in reducing the accessible capacity while other interfacial degradation mechanisms played minor roles. | 11 | BiVO_4 Photoanode with Exposed(040) Facets for Enhanced Photoelectrochemical Performance显示文摘A BiVO_4 photoanode with exposed(040) facets was prepared to enhance its photoelectrochemical performance.The exposure of the(040) crystal planes of the BiVO_4 film was induced by adding NaCl to the precursor solution. The asprepared BiVO_4 photoanode exhibits higher solar-light absorption and charge-separation efficiency compared to those of an anode prepared without adding Na Cl. To our knowledge,the photocurrent density(1.26 m A cm^(-2) at 1.23 V vs. RHE) of as-prepared BiVO_4 photoanode is the highest according to the reports for bare BiVO_4 films under simulated AM1.5 G solar light, and the incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency is above 35% at 400 nm. The photoelectrochemical(PEC)water-splitting performance was also dramatically improvedwith a hydrogen evolution rate of 9.11 lmol cm^(-2) h^(-1), which is five times compared with the BiVO_4 photoanode prepared without NaCl(1.82 lmol cm^(-2) h^(-1)). Intensity-modulated photocurrent spectroscopy and transient photocurrent measurements show a higher charge-carrier-transfer rate for this photoanode. | 13 | The Phytolith and Pollen Record since 10 ka BP from the Lhasa Region, Tibet显示文摘This paper presents a description of the river terrace at Tangjia Village in Lhasa, Tibet. Selected types of phytolith and pollen were used as proxies to study the paleoclimate in the study area. Ancient climate and vegetation changes since 10 ka BP were examined. The results demonstrated that between 10.2 and 8.9 ka BP, the dominating phytolith was the cold type and the dominating vegetation type was grassland-forest. This indicated that the climate changed from cool-humid to cool-dry and later turned back into a cool-humid climate. Between 8.9 and 8.1 ka BP,the main types of phytoliths were tooth, dumbbell, and polyhedral. This suggests that the vegetation consisted of forest-grassland and the period's climate had become warmer. Between 8.1 and 6.7 ka BP, the warm index of phytolith assembelage gradually increased, whereas the spore and pollen assembelage revealed that the vegetation was forest with hardwood. This suggested that the paleoclimate was warmest in this period. The herbaceous vegetation increased gradually, indicating that the climate had become colder since 7.5 ka BP. Between 6.7 and 4.6 ka BP, cold type phytolith such as tooth and cap were found. Simultaneously, the pollen assembelage indicated that the vegetation shifted from grassland to forest and then turned back into grassland. This implies that the climate fluctuated from cold-dry to cool- humid. Between 4.6 and 1.9 ka BP,the dominate type of phytolith was cold type and its warm index was in the range 0.04-0.28, suggesting a herbaceous vegetation cover and indicating that the climate was cold. The phytolith warm index from 1.9 ka BP revealed that the climate was continuously decreasing, and most of the pollen assembelage consisted of Chenopodiaceae and Artemisia.
