| 1 | Seasonal changes of soil erosion and its spatial distribution on a long gentle hillslope in the Chinese Mollisol region显示文摘Understanding seasonal soil erosion and deposition rates and their spatial distribution along sloping farmlands are necessary for erosion prediction technology and implementing effective soil conservation practices.To date seasonal change of soil erosion and soil redistribution on long gentle hillsiopes are not fully quantified due to the variable erosive forces in different seasons.A multi-tracer method using rare earth elements(REE)was employed to discriminate seasonal changes of soil erosion and its spatial distribution on a sloping farmland driven by snowmelt runoff,wind force and rainfall-runoff.A long-slope runoff plot with 5 m wide and 320 m long located in the typical Mollisol region of China was divided into eight segments,each of which was 40 m long and tagged with one of eight REE oxides.The spot method of a partial-area tagging scheme was employed and a grid-based layout was used for REE application.Results showed that annual soil erosion rate was 3251.01 km^(-2)for the whole runoff plot,in which snowmelt runoff erosion contributed 537.3 t km^(-2),wind erosion 363.11 km-2 and rainfall-runoff erosion 2350.6 t km^(-2).Surface runoff is the main external erosive force of hillslope soil erosion,accounting for 88.8%of the total annual soil loss.Furthermore,for the eight slope segments of the 320-m long hillslope,the sediment transport ratios of each slope segment caused by snowmelt runoff and rainfall-runoff erosion were more than 23.5%and 34.7%,respectively.The results will enrich the understanding of seasonal soil erosion on long hillsiopes. | Lei Wang Fenli Zheng Gang Liu Xunchang J.Zhang Glenn V.Wilson Hongqiang Shi Xujun Liu | 2021 | International Soil and Water Conservation Research2021,9,3: | 6 |

| 3 | Understanding the relationships between poverty alleviation and ecosystem conservation:empirical evidence from western China显示文摘Despite growing interest in the use of Payments for Ecosystem Services(PES)for both social and ecological benefits,few studies have investigated the feedback and interaction between poverty alleviation and ecosystem protection outcomes.In this study,the poverty reduction effects of PES policies and their subsequent influence on environmental protection outcomes are investigated.To address these questions,222 local rural households who were involved in PES programs from the Habahu National Nature Reserve in western China were interviewed.The results showed that the social and ecological outcomes of PES policies are neither two separate entities nor a trade-off.While rural households are the key participants in PES programs,the social and ecological outcomes of PES policies are closely related to each other.In addition,poverty reduction results could greatly influence ecosystem conservation effects.Livelihood assets,as well as the attitudes of rural households,play important roles in both of the outcomes.This research provides a new perspective that considers the social and ecological benefits of PES policies,and it also calls for an integrated consideration of social and ecological components in tihe design of PES policies to achieve enhanced results both for poverty alleviation and ecosystem conservation. | Xujun HU Huiyuan ZHANG Haiguang HAO Danyang FENG Haiyan LIU Qiang ZHANG | 2020 | Frontiers of Earth Science2020,14,1: | 2 |

| 20 | Dual-engineered cartilage-targeting extracellular vesicles derived from mesenchymal stem cells enhance osteoarthritis treatment via miR-223/NLRP3/pyroptosis axis:Toward a precision therapy显示文摘Osteoarthritis(OA)is the most common disabling joint disease with no effective disease modifying drugs.Extracellular vesicles released by several types of mesenchymal stem cells could promote cartilage repair and ameliorate OA pathology in animal models,representing a novel therapeutic strategy.In this study,we demonstrated that extracellular vesicles derived from human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells(hUC-EVs)could maintain chondrocyte homeostasis and alleviate OA,and further revealed a novel molecular mechanism of this therapeutic effect.miR-223,which could directly bind with the 3′UTR of NLRP3 mRNA,was found to be a key miRNA for hUC-EVs to exert beneficial effects on inflammation inhibiting and cartilage protecting.For enhancing the effect on mitigating osteoarthritis,exogenous miR-223 was loaded into hUC-EVs by electroporation,and a collagen II-targeting peptide(WYRGRL)was modified onto the surface of hUC-EVs by genetic engineering to achieve a more targeted and efficient RNA delivery to the cartilage.The dual-engineered EVs showed a maximal effect on inhibiting the NLRP3 inflammasome activation and chondrocyte pyroptosis,and offered excellent results for the treatment of OA.This study provides a novel theoretical basis and a promising therapeutic strategy for the application of engineered extracellular vesicles in OA treatment. | Weixuan Liu Anqi Liu Xujun Li Ziyang Sun Zhenghua Sun Yaru Liu Gang Wang Dan Huang Hao Xiong Shiyang Yu Xintao Zhang Cunyi Fan | 2023 | Bioactive Materials2023,,12: | 0 |
