8Rare earth metal as a dopant element:Cerium ion as an articulator in hexavalent chromium removal by magnetic iron oxides显示文摘This study highlights introducing the rare earth metal cerium(Ce(Ⅳ))into the structure of magnetite(Fe_(3)O_(4))to achieve enhanced adsorptive properties for the removal of chromium(Cr(VI))from an aqueous medium.Different ratios of Ce(Ⅳ)were introduced into the iron oxide matrix,termed FeCe-5,FeCe-10,and FeCe-20.Their numerical values correspond to the nominal content of the dopant element added to the synthesis medium.The solid materials were characterized for morphology and chemical structure,and N_(2)physical adsorption/desorption measurements were performed.The solid materials doped with Ce(IV)have a high surface area compared to Fe_(3)O_(4),and the solid material with the highest content of the dopant ion(Ce(IV))has a 4-fold greater surface area.This increase in the dopant content in the iron oxide structure leads to a total chromium removal of 93.3%.Isotherms studies on the solid materials show that chromium adsorption follows the Langmuir model.The adsorption capacity to Fe_(3)O_(4)is 12.59 mg/g and FeCe-10 is 22.49 mg/g at 35℃.By fitting the kinetic and isothermal models,it is found that for the Fe_(3)O_(4)and FeCe-10 materials Cr(VI)removal occurs in very different ways,attributed to the different surface areas and compositions of the oxide,with the formation of the goethite(α-FeOOH)phase.The FeCe-10reuse process was performed and the removal capacity the Cr(VI)is reduced after the first cycle.This result is attributed to a strong and irreversible adsorption of Cr(VI)on the FeCe-10.Pricila Maria Batista Chagas Maísa M.M.Lima Aline Aparecida Caetano Lucas Bragança Carvalho Nayra Maria de Abreu Piva Maria Eduarda Resende Luiz Iara do Rosário Guimarães 2023Journal of Rare Earths2023,41,10:0
9In vitro induced pluripotency from urine-derived cells in porcine显示文摘BACKGROUND The generation of induced pluripotent stem cells(iPSC)has been a game-changer in translational and regenerative medicine;however,their large-scale applicability is still hampered by the scarcity of accessible,safe,and reproducible protocols.The porcine model is a large biomedical model that enables translational applications,including gene editing,long term in vivo and offspring analysis;therefore,suitable for both medicine and animal production.AIM To reprogramme in vitro into pluripotency,and herein urine-derived cells(UDCs)were isolated from porcine urine.METHODS The UDCs were reprogrammed in vitro using human or murine octamer-binding transcription factor 4(OCT4),SRY-box2(SOX2),Kruppel-like factor 4(KLF4),and C-MYC,and cultured with basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF)supplementation.To characterize the putative porcine iPSCs three clonal lineages were submitted to immunocytochemistry for alkaline phosphatase(AP),OCT4,SOX2,NANOG,TRA181 and SSEA 1 detection.Endogenous transcripts related to the pluripotency(OCT4,SOX2 and NANOG)were analyzed via reverse transcription quantitative realtime polymerase chain reaction in different time points during the culture,and all three lineages formed embryoid bodies(EBs)when cultured in suspension without bFGF supplementation.RESULTS The UDCs were isolated from swine urine samples and when at passage 2 submitted to in vitro reprogramming.Colonies of putative iPSCs were obtained only from UDCs transduced with the murine factors(mOSKM),but not from human factors(hOSKM).Three clonal lineages were isolated and further cultured for at least 28 passages,all the lineages were positive for AP detection,the OCT4,SOX2,NANOG markers,albeit the immunocytochemical analysis also revealed heterogeneous phenotypic profiles among lineages and passages for NANOG and SSEA1,similar results were observed in the abundance of the endogenous transcripts related to pluripotent state.All the clonal lineages when cultured in suspension without bFGF were able to form EBs expressing ectoderm and mesoderm layers transcripts.CONCLUSION For the first time UDCs were isolated in the swine model and reprogrammed into a pluripotentlike state,enabling new numerous applications in both human or veterinary regenerative medicine.Kaiana Recchia Lucas Simões Machado Ramon Cesar Botigelli Naira Caroline Godoy Pieri Gabriela Barbosa Raquel Vasconcelos Guimarães de Castro Mariana Groke Marques Laís Vicari de Figueiredo Pessôa Paulo Fantinato Neto Flávio Vieira Meirelles Aline Fernanda de Souza Simone Maria Massami Kitamura Martins Fabiana Fernandes Bressan 2022World Journal of Stem Cells2022,14,3:0
10Alternative Method to Evaluate Performance Improvement Rate in Athletics Middle Distance Events显示文摘Purpose The aims of this study were to propose an alternative method to assess an optimal performance improvement rate(PIR)that would be used as a tool for coaches and elite athletes willing to reach their personal best,mainly those seeking for national,continental or even world record(WR)in middle-distance events.We further compared the improvement rate of women vs.men of the top-10 ranked athletes in the IAAF running these middle-distance events Method The top 10 athletes in the IAAF ranking of 800 m,1500 m,and 3000 m events for each sex were assessed for their history of race times before achieving their personal record(PR).The difference between PR(‘actual’season)and the best race time in the last season was defined as the 1st season improvement rate(1-SIR),whereas the average improvement rate in the last and preceding seasons was the multi-season improvement rate(M-SIR).1-SIR and M-SIR were calculated for each athlete.Result There were sex differences in the 1500 m with a large effect size(d=−0.746)in 1-SIR(P=0.001)and very large(d=−2.249)in M-SIR(P=0.001).Women improved more than men before the PR/WR achievements in the 800 m and 1500 m events(P=0.001)and had similar improvement rates before performing PR/WR in 3000 m events(P=0.533).Conclusion Women improve more before PR/WR achievement in 800 m and 1500 m races.However,in the 3000 m men and women have similar improvement rates in previous seasons before the PR/WR achievement.Lucas Pinheiro Barbosa Patrick Aguiar Santos Samuel Silva Aguiar Herbert Gustavo Simões Pantelis Theodoros Nikolaidis Beat Knechtle Caio Victor Sousa 2022Journal of Science in Sport and Exercise2022,4,2:0
