1Intestinal protozoa and intestinal helminthic infections among schoolchildren in Central Sudan显示文摘Objective:To determine the prevalence of intestinal parasitic infections and soil-transmitted helminths(STHs) among primary schoolchildren in El dhayga,Central Sudan.Methods:In this cross-sectional study,three fresh faecal samples were collected from each child,which were examined by direct wet mount,brine flotation,formalin-ether and Kato-Katz techniques.The intensity of each STH infection was expressed as the mean of eggs per gram counts of the three samples.Results:In total,142(90.4%) of 157 children harboured at least one type of intestinal parasite.Ascaris lumbricoides,Hymenolepis nana,Entamoeba histolytica and Giardia lamblia were the most common parasites found,with prevalence rates of 32.5%,30.6%,33.1%and 19.7%,respectively.Out of these 157 children,29(18.5%) harboured more than two intestinal parasitic infections.No cases of Schistosoma mansoni or Enterobius vermicularis were identified. 3Standard precaution measurements during ophthalmology practice in the pandemic stage of COVID-19显示文摘AIM:To take specific precautions and keep a safe practice during providing ophthalmology health services without compromising the patient’s safety as well as the team workers and the community in the pandemic stage of corona virus disease 2019(COVID-19).METHODS:Applying patient circulation scheme implemented in our ophthalmology centers with the guidance of ministry of health infection control guidelines star ted from the moment that we receive a call or Whats App message or Facebook inquiry from patients until 21 d after patients first visit if any.Four directions were taken.First,community awareness of the disease and the ophthalmology related advices in how eye can transfers the infection and how to protect our eyes not to be infected through videos interviews of our consultants and distribution in social media like Instagram,Facebook,Whats App pages radio and TV interviews as well as leaflet health awareness for distribution for public.Second,scheduling of patients’appointments to prevent overcrowdings and cross infection.Third,protective measurements tools in the center to detect and prevent any exposure of the patients to patients and to protect medical staff,COVID-19 scoring system was set up to identify patients with fever,respiratory symptoms,acute conjunctivitis or recent travel to outbreak areas and to encourage these individuals to postpone their appointments for at least 21 d.Proper use of personal protective equipment was implemented.Stopping all the elective surgeries keeping only the emergency types advised by fourth:how to deal with our patients if they need an urgent ophthalmological intervention and how to deal with suspected cases of corona if any cases detected.RESULTS:Our measures helped our colleagues to try to keep providing ophthalmology health services without increasing the incidence of infection for COVID-19 until this pandemic is over.CONCLUSION:In our practice,ophthalmologists should work with new aura of social media to facilitate the nondirect communication with the patients through maximizing the use of communication technology to keep contact with their patients and deal safely with COVID-19 cases.Ahmed Mohamed Reda Wael M.Ahmed 2020International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2020,13,7:1
4Complementary parametric probit regression and nonparametric classi?cation tree modeling approaches to analyze factors affecting severity of work zone weather-related crashes显示文摘Identifying risk factors for road traffic injuries can be considered one of the main priorities of transportation agencies. More than 12,000 fatal work zone crashes were reported between 2000 and 2013. Despite recent efforts to improve work zone safety, the frequency and severity of work zone crashes are still a big concern for transportation agencies. Although many studies have been conducted on different work zone safety-related issues, there is a lack of studies that investigate the effect of adverse weather conditions on work zone crash severity. This paper utilizes probit–classification tree, a relatively recent and promising combination of machine learning technique and conventional parametric model, to identify factors affecting work zone crash severity in adverse weather conditions using 8 years of work zone weatherrelated crashes (2006–2013) in Washington State. The key strength of this technique lies in its capability to alleviate the shortcomings of both parametric and nonparametric models. The results showed that both presence of traffic control device and lighting conditions are significant interacting variables in the developed complementary crash severity model for work zone weather-related crashes. 5Thyme oil and thymol abrogate doxorubicin-induced nephrotoxicity and cardiotoxicity in Wistar rats via repression of oxidative stress and enhancement of antioxidant defense mechanisms显示文摘This study aimed to assess the preventive effects of thyme oil and thymol on doxorubicin(DOX)-induced renotoxicity,cardiotoxicity,and oxidative stress in Wistar rats.Thyme oil was subjected to GC-MS analysis,which indicated that thymol was the major constituent representing 33.896%.Rats intraperitoneally injected with DOX at a dose of 2 mg/kg b.w./one per week for 7 weeks were co-treated with thyme oil and its major constituent,thymol,at doses 250 and 100 mg/kg b.w./every other day,respectively,by oral gavage for the same period.Thyme oil and thymol markedly ameliorated the raised levels of serum urea,uric acid,and creatinine in DOX-administered rats.They also reduced the elevated activities of serum CK-MB and LDH.Thyme oil was more effective than thymol in decreasing the elevated serum creatinine level and serum CK-MB activity in DOX-administered rats,thereby reflecting its more potent effect on kidney and heart functions.Lipid peroxidation significantly decreased while GSH level and GST and GPx activities significantly increased in kidney and heart of DOX-administered rats treated with thyme oil and thymol.The DOX-induced perturbed kidney histological changes including congestion of glomerulus tuft,inflammatory cells infiltration,protein cast in lumina of the renal tubule,and thickening of the parietal layer of Bowman’s capsule were remarkably ameliorated as a result of treatment with thyme oil and thymol;thyme oil was more effective.In addition,DOX-induced deleterious heart histological alterations,including intramuscular infiltration of inflammatory cells,focal necrosis of cardiac myocytes,and edema,were remarkably reduced by treatment with thyme oil and thymol.Thus,it can be concluded that DOX could induce marked toxicity in kidney and heart,and the treatment with thyme oil or thymol produced potential improvement of kidney and heart function and histological integrity via repression of oxidative stress and enhancement of antioxidant defense mechanisms.Osama M.AHMED Sanaa R.GALALY Mai RASLAN Mennah-Allah M.A.MOSTAFA 2020BIOCELL2020,44,1:1

7PVC nanocomposites for cable insulation with enhanced dielectric properties,partial discharge resistance and mechanical performance显示文摘The current study aims to develop polyvinyl chloride(PVC)nanocomposites with enhanced electrical and mechanical properties by incorporating titanium oxide(TiO_(2))nanoparticles within PVC chains.Different loading of nanoparticles and different nanoparticle surface states were considered.The surface states are unfunctionalised,functionalised using vinyl silane and functionalised using amino silane.The choice of a most suitable surface state was a critical factor that guarantees a good dispersion of nanoparticles and consequently enhances the compatibility between TiO_(2)and PVC matrix.The process followed in the PVC/TiO_(2)nanocomposites preparation,loaded with different wt.%of TiO_(2)nanoparticles,was the solvent method.The dielectric properties measured here were the relative permittivity(ɛr),dielectric loss(tanδ),breakdown strength(AC and DC under uniform field)and the internal partial discharges(PDs)within insulation cavity.All measurements have been performed under room temperature and at frequency ranged from 20 to 1.0 MHz.Furthermore,the mechanical properties of the samples like elongation,elasticity modulus and tensile strength were also studied.Vinyl silane showed better improvements in both electrical and mechanical performances compared to the amino silane,especially in cases of high weight fractions of TiO_(2).This is because of the improvement in the PVC-TiO_(2)interfacial region arise from the similarity of polarity and surface tension values of vinyl silane with that of PVC matrix and TiO_(2)nanoparticles.Nagat M.K.Abdel-Gawad Adel Z.El Dein Diaa-Eldin A.Mansour Hanaa M.Ahmed Mohamed M.F.Darwish Matti Lehtonen 2020High Voltage2020,5,4:1
8Can Fig and Olive Ameliorate the toxicity Induced by 2-nitropropane in some organs of mice? role of inflammatory versus anti-inflammatory genes显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To investigate the efficacy of Fig fruit powder and olive on hepatic,renal and splenic injury induced by 2-nitropropane(2-NP)in mice,especially if they were used in combination.METHODS:A total of 40 adult BALB/c male mice weighting 25-30 g/each.Mice were categorized into five groups(8 each).Group 1 as negative control.Group 2 as positive control group intraperitoneally injected with 2-NP(100 mg/kg b.w.)3 times/weekly for eight weeks.Group 3 injected with 2-NP and were orally supplemented with Fig(300 mg/kg).Group 4 injected with 2-NP and were orally supplemented with olive(100 mg/kg).Group 5 injected with 2-NP and were orally supplemented with mixture of Fig and olive(3∶1 respectively).RESULTS:Histopathological observation of liver in mice treated with 2-NP showed cellular degeneration,pyknosis,and congestion of the portal vein.In kidney there were disorganization of the cortical tissues,cellular necrosis and plenty of inflammatory lymphocytic aggregation.Significant elevations in liver function parameters(alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase),m RNA expression levels of tumor necrosis factor-α,nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase and cyclooxygenase were detected as anti-inflammatory markers and 5-lipoxygenase,interleukin-1βand interleukin-6 as inflammatory biomarkers for liver and spleen,also significant elevations was detected in lipid peroxidation levels.The levels of antioxidants,glutathione,glutathione peroxidase,catalase and superoxide dismutase were significantly decreased.CONCLUSION:our findings indicated that Fig fruit powder and olive protected against hepatic,renal and splenic injury induced with 2-NP in mice,especially if they were used in combination.Elham A.Abd-Allah Nouf S.Al-Abbas Mona M.Atia Fawzia Alzahrani El-Mokhtar M.Ahmed Soad S.Ali Soad K.Al Jaouni 2021Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2021,41,6:0
9Rangeland water requirement satisfaction index under rainfall variability and predicting future rainfall scenarios: implication for availability of feed resources显示文摘Introduction:Rangeland ecosystems provide multiple ecosystem services,including feed resources for wild and domestic herbivores in semi-arid areas.However,under the ever increasing environmental changes,the impact of rainfall variability on the productivity and vegetation dynamics of rangelands are the great challenges that pastoral community are facing today.As a result,the potentials of most rangelands in semi-arid ecosystems affect the livestockproduction.Therefore,we studied the interconnections between the long-term rainfall variation and the rangeland Water Requirement and Satisfaction Index(WRSI)in Mieso,Jigjiga,and Shinile districts under pastoral conditions of Ethiopia.Methods:The base period rainfall data(1984–2015)was obtained from the National Meteorological Agency of Ethiopia,whereas the future rainfall trend was predicted using MarkSim software(Representative Concentration Pathways 4.5 GHG concentration trajectory).Mann-Kendall’s statistical tests,coefficient of variation,LEAP software(version 2.61),and Minitab Software(version 15)were used to assess the relationship between rangeland WRSI and long-term rainfall variability.Results:The result indicated that mean annual rainfall anomaly had strong positive correlation with rangeland WRSI in Mieso(P<0.05),Jigjiga(P<0.001),and Shinile(P<0.001)pastoral areas.Similarly,short and long rainy seasons had positive association(P<0.001)with rangeland WRSI,especially in Jigjiga and Shinile pastoral districts.The base period rainfall as well as the predicted annual rainfall showed variability in amount and distribution in all studied districts in pastoral areas of Ethiopia.Conclusions:The mean annual rainfall anomaly is correlated with the rangeland WRSI.Moreover,the future rainfall trend analysis indicated that variability of rainfall would be expected in between the years 2020–2049,2040–2069,and 2070–2099.Thus,the future rainfall variability would limit future rangeland WRSI under pastoral conditions of Ethiopia.Based on our study,we suggested establishment and implementation of early warning systems to reduce the likely impact of rainfall variability on future rangeland potential in dry lands under the pastoral production systems in eastern Ethiopia.Hassen M.Ahmed Zewdu K.Tessema Adugna Tolera Diriba Korecha 2017Ecological Processes2017,6,1:0
10A Hybrid Regularization-Based Multi-Frame Super-Resolution Using Bayesian Framework显示文摘The prime purpose for the image reconstruction of a multi-frame super-resolution is to reconstruct a higher-resolution image through incorporating the knowledge obtained from a series of relevant low-resolution images,which is useful in numerousfields.Nevertheless,super-resolution image reconstruction methods are usually damaged by undesirable restorative artifacts,which include blurring distortion,noises,and stair-casing effects.Consequently,it is always challenging to achieve balancing between image smoothness and preservation of the edges inside the image.In this research work,we seek to increase the effectiveness of multi-frame super-resolution image reconstruction by increasing the visual information and improving the automated machine perception,which improves human analysis and interpretation processes.Accordingly,we propose a new approach to the image reconstruction of multi-frame super-resolution,so that it is created through the use of the regularization framework.In the proposed approach,the bilateral edge preserving and bilateral total variation regularizations are employed to approximate a high-resolution image generated from a sequence of corresponding images with low-resolution to protect significant features of an image,including sharp image edges and texture details while preventing artifacts.The experimental results of the synthesized image demonstrate that the new proposed approach has improved efficacy both visually and numerically more than other approaches.Mahmoud M.Khattab Akram M.Zeki Ali A.Alwan Belgacem Bouallegue Safaa S.Matter Abdelmoty M.Ahmed 2023Computer Systems Science & Engineering2023,44,1:0
11PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF MINIMAL PATH FAULT TOLERANT ROUTING IN NOC显示文摘Occurrence of faults in Network on Chip(NoC) is inevitable as the feature size is con-tinuously decreasing and processing elements are increasing in numbers.Faults can be revocable if it is transient.Transient fault may occur inside router,or in the core or in communication wires.Examples of transient faults are overflow of buffers in router,clock skew,cross talk,etc..Revocation of transient faults can be done by retransmission of faulty packets using oblivious or adaptive routing algorithms.Irrevocable faults causes non-functionality of segment and mainly occurs during fabrication process.NoC reliability increases with the efficient routing algorithms,which can handle the maximum faults without deadlock in network.As transient faults are temporary and can be easily revoked using re-transmission of packet,permanent faults require efficient routing to route the packet by bypassing the nonfunctional segments.Thus,our focus is on the analysis of adaptive minimal path fault tolerant routing to handle the permanent faults.Comparative analysis between partial adaptive fault tolerance routing West-First,North-Last,Negative-First,Odd Even,and Minimal path Fault Tolerant routing(MinFT) algorithms with the nodes and links failure is performed using NoC Interconnect RoutinG and Application Modeling simulator(NIRGAM) for the 2D Mesh topology.Result suggests that MinFT ensures data transmission under worst conditions as compared to other adaptive routing algorithms.M.Ahmed V.Laxmi M.S.Gaur 2011Journal of Electronics(China)2011,28,4:0
12An Efficient Encryption and Compression of Sensed IoT Medical Images Using Auto-Encoder显示文摘Healthcare systems nowadays depend on IoT sensors for sending data over the internet as a common practice.Encryption ofmedical images is very important to secure patient information.Encrypting these images consumes a lot of time onedge computing;therefore,theuse of anauto-encoder for compressionbefore encodingwill solve such a problem.In this paper,we use an auto-encoder to compress amedical image before encryption,and an encryption output(vector)is sent out over the network.On the other hand,a decoder was used to reproduce the original image back after the vector was received and decrypted.Two convolutional neural networks were conducted to evaluate our proposed approach:The first one is the auto-encoder,which is utilized to compress and encrypt the images,and the other assesses the classification accuracy of the image after decryption and decoding.Different hyperparameters of the encoder were tested,followed by the classification of the image to verify that no critical information was lost,to test the encryption and encoding resolution.In this approach,sixteen hyperparameter permutations are utilized,but this research discusses three main cases in detail.The first case shows that the combination of Mean Square Logarithmic Error(MSLE),ADAgrad,two layers for the auto-encoder,and ReLU had the best auto-encoder results with a Mean Absolute Error(MAE)=0.221 after 50 epochs and 75%classification with the best result for the classification algorithm.The second case shows the reflection of auto-encoder results on the classification results which is a combination ofMean Square Error(MSE),RMSprop,three layers for the auto-encoder,and ReLU,which had the best classification accuracy of 65%,the auto-encoder gives MAE=0.31 after 50 epochs.The third case is the worst,which is the combination of the hinge,RMSprop,three layers for the auto-encoder,and ReLU,providing accuracy of 20%and MAE=0.485.Passent El-kafrawy Maie Aboghazalah Abdelmoty M.Ahmed Hanaa Torkey Ayman El-Sayed 2023Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2023,,2:0
13Disturbance Evaluation in Power System Based on Machine Learning显示文摘The operation complexity of the distribution system increases as a large number of distributed generators(DG)and electric vehicles were introduced,resulting in higher demands for fast online reactive power optimization.In a power system,the characteristic selection criteria for power quality disturbance classification are not universal.The classification effect and efficiency needs to be improved,as does the generalization potential.In order to categorize the quality in the power signal disturbance,this paper proposes a multi-layer severe learning computer auto-encoder to optimize the input weights and extract the characteristics of electric power quality disturbances.Then,a multi-label classification algorithm based on rating is proposed to understand the relationship between the labels and identify the various power quality disturbances.The two algorithms are combined to construct a multi-label classification model based on a multi-level extreme learning machine,and the optimal network structure of the multi-level extreme learning machine as well as the optimal multi-label classification threshold are developed.The proposed method can be used to classify the single and compound power quality disturbances with improved classification effect,reliability,robustness,and anti-noise performance,according to the experimental results.The hamming loss obtained by the proposed algorithm is about 0.17 whereas ML-RBF,SVM and ML-KNN schemes have 0.28,0.23 and 0.22 respectively at a noise intensity of 20 dB.The average precision obtained by the proposed algorithm 0.85 whereas the ML-RBF,SVM and ML-KNN schemes indicates 0.7,0.77 and 0.78 respectively.Emad M.Ahmed Mohamed A.Ahmed Ziad M.Ali Imran Khan 2022Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,4:0
14Performance evaluation framework of Wyoming connected vehicle pilot deployment program: summary of Phase 2 pre-deployment efforts and lessons learned显示文摘Purpose–This paper aims to present a summary of the performance measurement and evaluation plan of the Wyoming connected vehicle(CV)Pilot Deployment Program(WYDOT Pilot).Design/methodology/approach–This paper identified 21 specific performance measures as well as approaches to measure the benefits of the WYDOT Pilot.An overview of the expected challenges that might introduce confounding factors to the evaluation effort was outlined in the performance management plan to guide the collection of system performance data.Findings–This paper presented the data collection approaches and analytical methods that have been established for the real-life deployment of the WYDOT CV applications.Five methodologies for assessing 21 specific performance measures contained within eight performance categories for the operational and safety-related aspects.Analyses were conducted on data collected during the baseline period,and pre-deployment conditions were established for 1 performance measures.Additionally,microsimulation modeling was recommended to aid in evaluating the mobility and safety benefits of the WYDOT CV system,particularly when evaluating system performance under various CV penetration rates and/or CV strategies.Practical implications–The proposed performance evaluation framework can guide other researchers and practitioners identifying the best performance measures and evaluation methodologies when conducting similar research activities.Originality/value–To the best of the authors’knowledge,this is thefirst research that develops performance measures and evaluation plan for low-volume rural freeway CV system under adverse weather conditions.This paper raised some early insights into how CV technology might achieve the goal of improving safety and mobility and has the potential to guide similar research activities conducted by other agencies.Mohamed M.Ahmed Guangchuan Yang Sherif Gaweesh 2019Journal of Intelligent and Connected Vehicles2019,2,2:0
15Biodecoloration of Reactive Black 5 by the methylotrophic yeast Candida boidinii MM 4035显示文摘Azo dyes are extensively used in textile dyeing and other industries. Effluents of dying industries are specially colored and could cause severe damage to the environment. The anaerobic treatment of textile dying effluents is nowadays the preferred option, but it could generate carcinogenic aromatic amines. Recently, yeasts have become a promising alternative, combining unicellular growth with oxidative mechanisms. This work reports the characterization of the first methylotrophic yeast with dye decolorizing ability, Candida boidinii MM 4035 and some insights into its decoloration mechanism. The analysis of two selected media revealed a possible two stages mechanism of Reactive Black 5 decoloration.In glucose poor media, decoloration is incomplete and only the first stage proceeds, leading to the accumulation of a purple compound. In media with higher glucose concentrations,the yeast is able to decolorize totally an initial concentration of 200 mg/L. The entire process is co-metabolic, being largely dependent on glucose concentration but being able to proceed with several nitrogen sources. Manganese dependent peroxidase but not laccase activity could be detected during decoloration. 17Assessment of clay stiffness and strength parameters using index properties显示文摘A new approach is developed to determine the shear wave velocity in saturated soft to firm clays using measurements of the liquid limit, plastic limit, and natural water content with depth. The shear wave velocity is assessed using the site-specific variation of the natural water content with the effective mean stress. Subsequently, an iterative process is envisaged to obtain the clay stiffness and strength parameters.The at-rest earth pressure coefficient, as well as bearing capacity factor and rigidity index related to the cone penetration test, is also acquired from the analyses. Comparisons are presented between the measured clay parameters and the results of corresponding analyses in five different case studies. It is demonstrated that the presented approach can provide acceptable estimates of saturated clay stiffness and strength parameters. One of the main privileges of the presented methodology is the site-specific procedure developed based on the relationships between clay strength and stiffness parameters, rather than adopting direct correlations. 18A Secure Hardware Implementation for Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm显示文摘Since the end of the 1990s,cryptosystems implemented on smart cards have had to deal with two main categories of attacks:side-channel attacks and fault injection attacks.Countermeasures have been developed and validated against these two types of attacks,taking into account a well-defined attacker model.This work focuses on small vulnerabilities and countermeasures related to the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm(ECDSA)algorithm.The work done in this paper focuses on protecting the ECDSA algorithm against fault-injection attacks.More precisely,we are interested in the countermeasures of scalar multiplication in the body of the elliptic curves to protect against attacks concerning only a few bits of secret may be sufficient to recover the private key.ECDSA can be implemented in different ways,in software or via dedicated hardware or a mix of both.Many different architectures are therefore possible to implement an ECDSA-based system.For this reason,this work focuses mainly on the hardware implementation of the digital signature ECDSA.In addition,the proposed ECDSA architecture with and without fault detection for the scalar multiplication have been implemented on Xilinxfield programmable gate arrays(FPGA)platform(Virtex-5).Our implementation results have been compared and discussed.Our area,frequency,area overhead and frequency degradation have been compared and it is shown that the proposed architecture of ECDSA with fault detection for the scalar multiplication allows a trade-off between the hardware overhead and the security of the ECDSA.Mouna Bedoui Belgacem Bouallegue Abdelmoty M.Ahmed Belgacem Hamdi Mohsen Machhout Mahmoud M.Khattab 2023Computer Systems Science & Engineering2023,44,3:0
19Evaluation of On-Line MPPT Algorithms for PV-Based Battery Storage Systems显示文摘This paper presents a novel Simulink models with an evaluation study of more widely used On-Line Maximum Power Point tracking(MPPT)techniques for Photo-Voltaic based Battery Storage Systems(PV-BSS).To have a full comparative study in terms of the dynamic response,battery state of charge(SOC),and oscillations around the Maximum Power Point(MPP)of the PV-BSS to variations in climate conditions,these techniques are simulated in Matlab/Simulink.The introduced methodologies are classified into two types;the first type is conventional hill-climbing techniques which are based on instantaneous PV data measurements such as Perturb&Observe and Incremental Conductance techniques.The second type is a novel proposed methodology is based on using solar irradiance and cell temperature measurements with pre-build Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System(ANFIS)model to predict DC–DC converter optimum duty cycle to track MPP.Then evaluation study is introduced for conventional and proposed On-Line MPPT techniques.This comparative study can be useful in specifying the appropriateness of the MPPT techniques for PV-BSS.Also the introduced model can be used as a valued reference model for future research related to Soft Computing(SC)MPPT techniques.A significant improvement of SOC is achieved by the proposed model and methodology with high accuracy and lower oscillations.Belqasem Aljafari Eydhah Almatrafi Sudhakar Babu Thanikanti Sara A.Ibrahim Mohamed A.Enany Marwa M.Ahmed 2022Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,11:0
