| 1 | From Parallel Plants to Smart Plants:Intelligent Control and Management for Plant Growth显示文摘Precision management of agricultural systems, aiming at optimizing profitability, productivity and sustainability,comprises a set of technologies including sensors, information systems, and informed management, etc. Expert systems are expected to aid farmers in plant management or environment control, but they are mostly based on the offline and static information, deviated from the actual situation. Parallel management,achieved by virtual/artificial agricultural system, computational experiment and parallel execution, provides a generic framework of solution for online decision support. In this paper, we present the three steps toward the parallel management of plant: growth description(the crop model), prediction, and prescription. This approach can update the expert system by adding learning ability and the adaption of knowledge database according to the descriptive and predictive model. | 6 | Effect of streambed sediment on benthic ecology显示文摘Benthic macroinvertebrates have been commonly used as indicator species for assessment of aquatic ecology. Streambed sediment, or substrate, plays an important role in habitat conditions for macroinvertebrate communities. Field investigations were done to study the benthic diversity and macroinvertebrate compositions in various stream substrata. Sampling sites with different bed sediment, latitude, and climate were selected along the Yangtze River, the Yellow River, the East River, and the Juma River, in China. The results show that benthic community structures found in different substrata clearly differ, while those found in substrata of similar composition and flow conditions but in different macroclimates are similar. The study, thus, demonstrates that the benthic macroinvertebrate community is mainly affected by substrate composition and flow conditions, but is generally unaffected by latitudinal position and macroclimate. Taxa richness of the macroinvertebrate community was found to be the highest on hydrophyte-covered cobbles, high on moss-covered bedrock, and low on clay beds and cobble beds devoid of plant biomass. Sandy beds are compact and unstable, thus, no benthic macroinvertebrates were found colonizing such substrata. Aquatic insects account for most of the macroinvertebrates collected in these rivers. Different insects dominate in different types of substrata: mainly EPT species (Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Trichoptera) in cobble, gravel, and moss-covered bedrock; and Chironomidae larvae in clay beds. The relation between the number of species in the samples and the size of the sampling area fits a power function of the species area. One square meter (1m2) is suggested as the minimum sampling area. A substrate suitability index is proposed by integrating the suitability of sediment, periphyton, and benthic organic materials for macroinvertebrates. The biodiversity of macroinvertebrates increases linearly with the substrate suitability index. | 8 | Tuning the intermolecular interaction of A_(2)-A_(1)-D-A_(1)-A_(2) type non-fullerene acceptors by substituent engineering for organic solar cells with ultrahigh V_(OC) of ~1.2 V显示文摘For non-fullerene acceptors(NFAs)with linear A_(2)-A_(1)-D-A_(1)-A_(2) backbone,there are three kinds of possible intermolecular interaction,A_(1)-A_(1),A_(1)-A_(2) and A_(2)-A_(2) stacking.Hence,it is a huge challenge to control this interaction and investigate the effect of intermolecular stacking model on the photovoltaic performance.Here,we adopt a feasible strategy,by utilizing different substituent groups on terminal A2 unit of dicyanomethylene rhodanine(RCN),to modulate this stacking model.According to theoretical calculation results,the molecule BTA3 with ethyl substituent packs via heterogeneous interaction between A_(2) and A_(1) unit in neighboring molecules.Surprisingly,the benzyl group can effectively transform the aggregation of BTA5 into homogeneous packing of A_(2)-A_(2) model,which might be driven by the strong interaction between benzyl and A1(benzotriazole)unit.However,different with benzyl,phenyl end group impedes the intermolecular interaction of BTA4 due to the large steric hindrance.When using a BTA-based D-π-A polymer J52-F as donor according to“Same-A-Strategy”,BTA3-5 could achieve ultrahigh open-circuit voltage(VOC)of 1.17–1.21 V.Finally,BTA5 with benzyl groups realized an improved power conversion efficiency(PCE)of 11.27%,obviously higher than that of BTA3(PCE=9.04%)and BTA4(PCE=5.61%).It is also worth noting that the same trend can be found when using other four classic p-type polymers of P3HT,PTB7,PTB7-Th and PBDB-T.This work not only investigates the intermolecular interaction of A_(2)-A_(1)-D-A_(1)-A_(2) type NFAs for the first time,but also provides a straightforward and universal method to change the interaction model and improve the photovoltaic performance. | Xiaochen Wang Ailing Tang Jing Yang Mengzhen Du Jianfeng Li Gongqiang Li Qiang Guo Erjun Zhou | 2020 | Science China Chemistry2020,63,11: | 5 |

| 11 | The bHLH transcription factor GhPAS1 mediates BR signaling to regulate plant development and architecture in cotton显示文摘Cotton (Gossypium spp.) is the most important natural textile fiber crop in the world.The ideal plant architecture of cotton is suitable for mechanical harvesting and productivity in modern agricultural production.However,cotton genes regulating plant development and architecture have not been fully identified.We identified a basic helix-loop-helix (b HLH) transcription factor,GhPAS1 (PAGODA1 SUPPRESSOR1) in G.hirsutum (Upland cotton).GhPAS1 was located in the nucleus and showed a strong transcription activation effect.Tissue-specific expression patterns showed that GhPAS1 was highly expressed in floral organs,followed by high expression in early stages of ovule development and rapid fiber elongation.GhPAS1 overexpression in Arabidopsis and BRZ (brassinazole,BR biosynthesis inhibitor) treatment indicated that GhPAS1 positively regulates and responds to the BR (brassinosteroid) signaling pathway and promotes cell elongation.GhPAS1 overexpression in Arabidopsis mediated plant development in addition to increasing plant biomass.Virus-induced gene silencing of GhPAS1 indicated that down-regulation of GhPAS1 inhibited cotton growth and development,as plant height,fruit branch length,and boll size of silenced plants were lower than in control plants.Fiber length and seed yield were also lower in silenced plants.We conclude that GhPAS1,a b HLH transcription factor,regulates plant development and architecture in cotton.These findings may help breeders and researchers develop cotton cultivars with desirable agronomic characteristics. | Huanhuan Wu Zhongying Ren Lei Zheng Mengzhen Guo Jingyu Yang Liyong Hou Ghulam Qanmber Fuguang Li Zuoren Yang | 2021 | The Crop Journal2021,9,5: | 4 |

| 19 | NAMING THE GREEKS IN THE ARCHAIC PERIOD:“PANHELLENES,” “HELLENES,” “HELLAS” AND THE NOTION OF PANHELLENISM显示文摘The labels 'Hellenes' and 'Hellas' are often considered to be collective names for the Greeks and have a close connection with the term 'Panhellenes.' This article studies the process of naming the Greeks in the Archaic period and the relationship between these collective names and the notion of Panhellenism. By a literary and etymological examination of the relevant sources, it suggests that the designation 'Hellenes' probably did not evolve from that of 'Panhellenes' and that the terms 'Hellenes' and 'Hellas,' but not 'Panhellenes,' probably have generic significance in the sixth century. Furthermore, with the Olympic Games and the Hellenion, a Greek sanctuary in Naucratis, as two study cases, the article shows the complexity of the development of Greek identification.
